Recovery / restore options

Hi all,
I have a 10.2.0.4 system test database that I would like to take a backup of. The database has a set of regression test data loaded onto it, and is at a particular baselined code version.
The requirement is, on an adhoc basis, to restore this database into 4 different system test enviroments, to enable test team to run regression against DB patch upgrades etc.
An example is:-
e.g. Backup taken from SYSTESTDB1 on 01/11/2011 -- This is the baselined version
Restore this into SYSTESTDB2 / 3 / 4 on 5/11/2011
Can you tell me the most suitable way to do this?
The databases are running in NOARCHIVELOG mode.
I'm not sure whether the best approach would be an EXPORT / IMPORT process, or utilise RMAN, or another method?
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Database in noarchivelog means you can only create cold backups (database is mounted, but not open). So you always have to shutdown your source database, before making the backup.
SYSTESTn means a different host? Or do you want create 4 databases on the SAME host?
In the first case you can use RMAN's method 'restore a database on new host' or RMAN Duplicate (if the database can have different DB_NAMEs).
Or you simply copy the datafiles (controlfile, redologs, datafiles) to the target nodes.
In the second case RMAN Duplicate is needed (database names must be different).
I would only use export/import if the databases are very small.

  • Help needed - Can't access OneKey Recovery restoration option after system reboot,

    Hi,
I run OneKey Recovery, after I choose "recovery", and system reboot.....system automatically log in Windows 7 again, rather than access OneKey Recovery restoration option.
I am using G570 and  OneKey Recovery version is 7. this issue never happened before, it always reboot to OneKey Recovery restoration before....please help. Thanks

You shouldn't need Command + R since the Option key will present you with the Recovery boot volume. Seems something is amiss there, I'm willing to bet you may have been using a wireless keyboard.

  • I forgot my ipad passcode.  I tried to restore ipad using the recovery mode option.  However when I try this iTunes askes me to turn off the "find my ipad" option (which of course I cannot do as I cannot open the ipad).

I forgot my ipad passcode.  I tried:
    1. Simply to restore the ipad on the computer it is normally synced with, but it askes me to enter the passcode.
    2. to restore ipad using the recovery mode option.  However when I try this iTunes askes me to turn off the "find my ipad" cloud option (which of course I cannot do as I cannot open the ipad).
    3. to remotely erase my ipad, but as it is locked down it does not seem to be connecting to the internet and hence cannot seen through my "find my ipad".
I am completely stuck!  Any suggestions please?!?!?

So what you want is to be able to boot from OS X and retrieve your files
Create a data recovery/undelete external boot drive
Of course if it's not booting up, it's easier to fix in place
..Step by Step to fix your Mac
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/notebooks/macbook_pro?view=documents#/
...so I am trying to boot from a USB recovery drive but when I select it nothing happens it just goes to the restore options
"Recovery HD" is a partition on your boot drive which you option or commnad r key held at boot time to get into and then repair the Macintish HD partition.
If you have this on a external USB thumb drive, then that's all it is, no OS X, programs or files.
If your talking a USB external drive, it has to be a OS X bootable clone made with Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper and the option key held at boot time gives you that boot option.
    Most commonly used backup methods
So what your saying is you have a external clone and by holding the option key down at boot all you get is it directly going to Recovery HD?
There is no Startup Manager option to choose what to boot from?
This could mean Apple changed something, or your external bootable clone isn't one, or the wrong software used so it's not being recognized by Startup Manager as a bootable option.
What did you use to make the external OS X USB bootable drive?

  • I am trying to do a factory reset on my macbook air, but when I do the command   power button, I am only seeing the macintosh HD option not the recovery hd option previously mentioned.

I am trying to factory restore my macbook air, I tried following a youtube video performing the option + power button and am only getting the macintosh HD option not the recovery HD option. Is there another way to reset the computer?

The proper shortcut is COMMAND-R, not  COMMAND-PowerButton. See the following:
Install or Reinstall Mavericks or Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
OS X Mavericks- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Erase and reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Endless Recovery/Restore Cycle

So my iPod randomly restarted today, and when it did, all of my music was somehow erased from it, though the "shuffle songs" option still appeared.
I plugged it into my laptop, and an alert popped up saying that my iPod is in "recovery mode" and that I need to restore it to get it back to where it should be. But when I restore it, I just get the recovery/restore prompt again. When I unplug the iPod from my laptop, a white screen on the iPod itself says "use iTunes to restore."
Needless to say, I'm pretty confused. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Have you had a chance to look at this troubleshooting page? If not, have a look at the bottom section that covers what to try if the message keeps reappearing: iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode - Use iTunes to restore
Towards the end it says "If after restoring your iPod, the message described above reappears, the iPod drive letter may need to be reassigned. See the "Change the Drive Letter" section of this document for steps to assign a different drive letter" which contains a link to this article: Windows confuses iPod with network drive and iTunes may exhibit strange behavior in relation to the iPod.

  • Pavilion DV7 - need factory restore option?

I have a DV7 Entertainment machine here that I'm servicing, but for the life of me I cannot get it to invoke the factory restore option.  I've used F11 and I even burned a recovery/repair DVD from Win7, but nothing gives me a factory-restore (from partition) option.
I was hoping to restore sanity to the Win7 installation for obvious reasons (avoiding disrupting client software/data) but it's like someone put the whole thing through the blender, files missing everywhere and even the START menu items are completely empty.
    Paul.

Mystery solved.... machine was originally Vista Home Premium... user has upgraded to 7. That'll explain why Win7 won't run with the recovery partition. *sigh*

  • How do I restore the back up from my old iPhone 5 which is IOS 8.1.3 to my new iPhone 6 which is IOS 8? It's not coming up as an available back up restore option?

How do I restore the back up from my old iPhone 5 which is IOS 8.1.3 to my new iPhone 6 which is IOS 8? It's not coming up as an available back up restore option? Am I able to set up as a new iPhone and then update the new phone to IOS 8.1.3 and then restore from my old iPhone 5 back up at that stage?

Setup your new phone, then update to iOS 8.1.3. Once done: Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content & Settings". At the setup screen you'll now be able to select your old phone's backup.

I think it's QuickTime player causing the problem, when I try to open it I get the windows error that an error has occured
Let's try swapping out your QuickTime again, taking a few extra explicit precautions this time.
Head into your Add/Remove programs. uninstall QuickTime.
Next, we’ll manually remove any leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx. (If “Hide filename extensions for known file types” is enabled on the PC, then those two files will appear as “QuickTime” and QuickTimeVR”.)
    7. Restart your computer.
Now download and save a copy of the latest standalone QuickTime installer to your hard drive. (We'll run the install from there rather than online.)
Latest Quicktime Installers … get the one that doesn’t mention iTunes
Switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install. Start the install by doubleclicking the QuickTimeInstaller.exe.
If that install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching iTunes again. Does your iTunes launch properly now?
(If you get an error message on the QuickTime uninstall or standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. Include error message numbers if you're getting any.)

  • I recently did the latest update. My Ipad 2 would not turn on, and then the screen with the apple logo started flashing. I tried the recovery restore, but I kept getting error messages. What should I do?

I recently did the latest update, and then I charged my Ipad 2 afterwards. I went to use my Ipad 2 days later, and it would not even turn on. Then after a couple minutes, the apple logo appeared as if it were loading. It continued to do this for a few minutes, and then the screen starting turning on and off. Then 5 minutes after that, my lock screen appeard and froze. Then it shut itself off again. I tried plugging my ipad into Itunes to do the recovery restore, but I kept getting error messages.

  • IPhone 3g 16gb recovery/restore loop

2 recent iPhone 4s working ok since day 1. I (Dad) inherit 2yr old (out of warranty) iPhone 3g 16gb. Recently the phone went into the WSOD, Apple Logo, Recovery, Restore loop (was connected to car audio). Phone has not had any other problems since day one. Not jailbroken or unlocked. Rogers sim inside no longer active (iPod & Wifi usage).
Research week & tried every suggestion to do a phone restore/upgrade in order to get it out of the "Recovery Mode" loop (3 hours per day x 7).
    Here is my list:
    Full Battery - charges ok
    Firewall - turned off
    Disabled AV
    Reinstall iTunes (recent & old)
    # software suggestions to Enter & Exit Loop
Different PC - 5, USB ports, direct, USB Cables (Apple old & new)
    Different modes - DFU, Emergency
    Nothing else running on PC
PC makes noise when connects & disconnects
"Dock Connector" replaced - error 9 suggestion - no difference (old dock ok)
PC recognizes iPhone - assume usb drivers ok - Apple Mobile Device (Recovery Mode) USB Driver - no errors
During the restore process, consistently error 9 s out within seconds of (Apple Logo above empty bar) "Waiting for iPhone"
Suggestions & Help is always appreciated, perhaps this list will help someone else with the similar journey. Hard not to think that this is a software/firmware issue (But then always careful with sure bet advice!).

Tx x 2 I did read the information from Apple that you just posted. Note in my original post I do discuss trying all these combinations and permutations w.r.t. USB isolation/variation (only thing I have not tried is an OS other than Win 7 (XP or Vista) or via a MAC) - even having the dock connector replaced.
I have not gone to the Apple Store (and have no intent on doing so) and yes it is possible the phone is defective - would boil down to the logic board imho. The phone is out of warranty (again as stated above 2+ years old). This translates into swapping the device or paying for consulting time - given the resale market does not make economic sense imho.
The original intent of posting in this forum is that I have the sense a number of hardware ok iPhones (perhaps including mine) appear to be having firmware/software issues - reproduceable error 9 - the device connects and disconnects from the pc up until the "Waiting for iPhone"

My ipod is brand-new and I mistakenly pressed the "restore" option! How can I put everything back to normal now?
And after that, could you explain to me how can I put songs in it?

Re-sync your apps and content from iTunes on your computer or redownload it from the iTunes Store, then restore from your backup:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766
That should put back most if not all of your settings and data. As to putting songs on, either purchase them from the iTunes Store or, again, sync them from iTunes:

  • "Delete data and restore" option in Nokia N8

I want to restore my N8 to fresh state as I have installed and uninstalled too many apps and they all have created and left a lot of files on C drive even after uninstalling them. They have ocupied some space on C drive.
I am going for "Delete data and restore" option in phone management. I will back up all data with Nokia Suite before the procedure. I just want to know what all apps which are installed by default will be lost. Please enumerate every app or thing that will be lost.
I know that default wallpapers, songs will be lost. I'm interested in default apps only. Likes dictionary, Zip, Communicator, Video editor, Photo editor,  My Nokia, Recorder, Shazam, Msg. reader, Adobe reader, Nat Geo, Movie Teasers, YouTube, E! etc. I have mentioned most here, may have missed some. Please enlist in detail.
    Thanks a lot.
One more thing, this are should be improved by Nokia-uninstalling any app should remove it completely without any footprints.

If you go to this page (and are logged in to the store) you will find all apps your previously downloaded and these are the apps that will be removed when you do a full reset. You can re-install them again afterwards provided you have not done so 10 times before.
Please follow the steps below if you decide to completely reset your N8 and start with a fresh device:
If you have data on the N8-00 you wish to keep create a backup using Nokia Suite but when asked deselect the option to include settings in the backup. You can start a backup through Tools>Backup in the Nokia Suite menu.
Now disconnect your N8-00 from the PC and select the offline profile, press the on/off switch and from the menu which appears select and activate the profile offline.
Enter the code *#7370# followed by the security code 12345. Please be aware this reset may take a while. Your N8-00 will restart when finished.
After the N8-00 restarts go through the Device First Use sequence to setup the N8-00 correctly.
Now connect the N8-00 to your PC again and let Nokia Suite install the requires files on N8-00. After this (re)install the latest system update. When you go to the update screen in Nokia Suite your will either be presented by a system update or you can choose to re-install the current (up to date) version again.
After the update verify if there are any additional updates and install these as well.
After this you can restore the backup if you made one.
