Rectangle highlighting  in PDF file by mouse click

Hello all,
I want to draw a rectangle in PDF in BLACK color.
When Customer puts a mouse inside that rectangle and click on it,
I would like the rectangle to become RED.
Is that possible ?
Thanks

ok, just curious. How would you do it in Swing ? The only reason I am not allowed to use swing is because I want the application to be able to run in Netscape 4.7 and IE 4

How to programmatically add rectangle to a pdf file ?
There is several page pdfs, non-vector, black and white.
Users are color blind and have disabilities.
To train them, one adds a rectangle at a certain lower-left point and width, height specified for a page.
The idea is to give the script the page and coordinates and size of rectangle to be added programmatically. Green rectangles are acceptable as the cones are most sensitive there.
Also, additional feature to add bookmarks on the left in the order these rectangle data is provided to the script.
The script could be "hard-wired" by a list of the rectangle coodinates, and page number, pasted inside acrobat and run or entered into acrobat in some way.
Your script would help many disabled people who are distributed through out the world.
Feel free to contact me by email if you wish.

    P.S.
This rectangle does not have to be a full annotation rectangle which needs user, date and a lot of info.
Something minimal like this would suffice
    1 0 0 RG % red for stroke color
    200 300 50 75 re
As you can see that the native unit of the pdf file is the "point" having 72 in an inch.
The file dpi would be given. However, one could assume that pixel for the rectangle lower-left and width/height are given.
From the pixels and dpi, the points could be calculated if desired.

Why can I highlight some pdf files and not others

Highlighting only works on text documents; a scanned document (image) cannot be highlighted.

  • Can't open PDF files by double-clicking

I use ACROBAT  XI PRO / WINDOWS 8
Thanks so much for your prompt consideration

    Hi Valerie,
What happens if you try to open the same files after launching Acrobat, by choosing File > Open?
Has anything changed since on your system since you were able to open Acrobat/PDF files by double-clicking?
For starters, please try repairing the Acrobat installation by choosing Help > Repair Acrobat Installation.
Please let us know how it goes.
    Best,

  • I want to VIEW pdf files when I click on them (NOT save them) WITHOUT being asked everytime. I have already customized my firefox settings.

I have a hotmail email account and each time I click on a pdf attachment, Firefox asks me "What should Firefox do with this file?" I click "Open with - Adobe Reader (default)" then I check-mark "DO THIS AUTOMATICALLY FOR FILES LIKE THIS FROM NOW ON." When I check-mark that box a little line comes up beneath it that says "Settings can be changed using the Applications tab in Firefox's Options." So I also changed my application settings to "PDF - Use Adobe Acrobat in Firefox". Even though I have changed the application settings, and have check-marked the little box asking it to open with adobe reader automatically, Firefox still asks me each time I click on a PDF "What should Firefox do with this file". How do I make it stick that every time I click on a pdf attachment I want to VIEW it in Adobe WITHOUT being asked every time? Is there a way? Thank you!!!

Automatic actions are connected to a specific MIME type and if Hotmail doesn't send the file with a correctly recognized MIME type then the automatic action won't work.

  • How do I save highlighting in .pdf file when converting to .docx format?

When I try to convert a .pdf file to .docx format the highlighted words are not visible through the highlighted area.  Just blocks of color with no words showing through apear in the converted file:
    After Conversion to .docx
I created the .pdf file on an iPad using the PDF expert app, uploaded it to Dropbox, downloaded it from Dropbox on a PC laptop, and converted it to .docx.  Above is the result.  When the .pdf file is opened with Adobe reader the highlighting is as it should be (words are visible through highlighting)

    With what?

  • Sync Highlight in PDF file between Mac and iPad

I need to read hundreds of PDF articles/books(downloaded from non-apple sources) on Mac(OS X 10.9.5) and iPad(iOS 7.2). Problem is that marking/highlight done in PDF file in iPad using Adobe reader/Foxit/TinyPDF or any other PDF reader can not be synced to Mac. iBook in iPad has no function of highlight/underline for third party PDF files. I can open file from Google drive or Dropbox in to Adobe reader or any third party PDF reader but once I do highlight or marking in it, that file can not be saved back to dropbox/google drive, hence I can not view that file with highlight/marking in my mac. As per my knowledge iCloud drive in iOS 8 and OS X 10.10 also have same limitation.
Tried  other apps like Mendeley(size limit of 50 mb), Evernote (insert PDF file in evernote - but built in PDF reader is useless for large files with >1000 pages). Still could not find solution . Can you please help me out?

  • How can I configure Firefox to prompt me to open or save a PDF file when I click on one instead of just opening it in Acrobat?

There is a registry key that can be edited to have IE do this. Is there a way to have Firefox pop up a dialog box asking what I want to do with the PDF file?
Here is the IE registry key:
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AcroExch.Document.7]
    "EditFlags"=hex:00,00,00,00

    Hi,
I am having some issues with Adobe Reader (Downloaded 9.1.3).  When I select a pdf to open all of my most recent pdf's open at once.  I am using Windows Vista.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled after a fresh boot.  Any thoughts about what could be causing it or any solutions would be very greatful.  I will even throw in a gold star for anyone that helps.

  • I cannot download a PDF file by right-clicking and "save link as"

I think that previously I could do this, and I still can in IE (ugh!), but in Firefox, when I try to "save link as" from a Google search, Firefox tries to download "url."

  • Right clicking PDF files and printing those with Acrobat Reader X

We have a Windows XP computer with Adobe Acrobat 7 Professional and Acorbat Reader X.
Now when we open PDF files they open with Acrobat Reader X wich is fine.
But when we try selecting PDF files and right click Print them they print with Acrobat 7 Professional.
The problem is with Adobe Acrobat Professional 7 it doesn't print all the files we selected.
We select 50 files and only about 10 are printed and those are always random.
So is there anyway to enable the print option to print with Acrobat Reader X ?

This is not a desirable situation. Adobe recommends against having Reader and Acrobat on the same machine, unless they're both version X, exactly because it can cause this kind of conflicts.

  • Can't double click to open PDF files

Within the past two weeks I'm getting this odd error where I can't open a PDF file by double clicking it. I get an error saying "This action is only valid for products that are already installed"
I have Reader 8.1.2. installed. I CAN open a PDF file when I open up Adobe Reader and then browse and select the file from the File Menu. I just can't double click to open any more. Very annoying.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Reader, but I'm getting the same error.
    Any help is much appreciated!

when I try to open a pdf file in safari 6, I get an error telling me to accept the end user license for adobe acrobat. Why?

You should contact Adobe Support and/or post in the Adobe Forums since it's their product.
To get Preview to open PDF files:
    Highlight the PDF file>File>Get Info>
In the Get Info window, scroll down to "Open with:"
    Select Preview open the file.
Click the "Change All..." button if you want to "Use this application to open all documents like this.”

  • How can I repair and open damaged PDF files?

I need to download every online issue of ASOS magazine, which are all PDF files, and I have already downloaded at least five to my USB stick, and they have all worked perfectly. However, there are five more issues that I have not downloaded, and I need to download them. To my frustration, every time that I download any of these files to the same USB stick, a box appears saying that the file cannot be open because it is damaged and cannot be repaired. I have followed your instructions and saved these files to my hard drive instead, but they are still damaged and do not open properly. Please tell me how I can open my files without Adobe Reader saying that they are damaged.
    Steps to reproduce the bug:
I download an online issue of ASOS magazine from ASOS.com or Publitas.com; the latter is the official website for bask issues of ASOS magazine.
    The file downloads as normal.
I open the file in Adobe Reader.
Result: A box appears saying that the file is damaged, and that Adobe Reader is trying to repair the file. Only a second later, another box appears, saying that the file cannot be repaired, thus not allowing me to view the file as normal.
The result that I want: No boxes appear saying that the file is damaged, and it opens as normal.

The download links of the problem PDF files are:

    http://epub02.publitas.com/ASOS/23/magazine.php?spread=88
The latest issue of the ASOS online magazine can always be downloaded at:
    http://www.asos.com/au/Women/Magazine/Womens-Magazine-Asos/Cat/pgehtml.aspx?cid=6200&WT.ac =Nav_Magazine
My OS is WIndows Vista with Service Pack 2. The browser that I use is Internet Explorer.
The way I download these files is quite simple:
I open any one of the webpages whose URLs I have listed.
I wait a few minutes for the software that allows the magazine to be read online to load fully. Publitas.com allows entire magazines to be viewed online, and also, among many other features, provides viewers with a search engine which allows them to search for certain words or phrases in the magazine.
Once the software has fully loaded, on the toolbar at the top of the webpage (in the case of ASOS.com, the toolbar is underneath the various toolbars and boxes found on www.asos.com) there is a button featuring the Adobe Reader logo; when you hover your mouse over the logo, it will say 'download PDF'. To download the PDF file, you first click on the logo.
The 'View Downloads- Windows Internet Explorer' window will open. The name of the PDF file, and the URL on which it was found, will both appear in the window, under the Name column. Under the Location column, it will say, 'Do you want to open or save this file?'. Under the Actions column, there will be two buttons, saying Open and Save. I click on the arrow on the save button and choose to save the PDF to my hard drive, in the Documents folder (which is currently the default folder for saving PDF files).
That is how I download a PDF.
