Redirect Iphone restore file in iTunes

I have a corporate pc with a disk space limitation. Unfortunately, iTunes places the iPhone restore file in the C:\Documents and Settings\"user"\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates folder and that folder is within the space limitation. The restore file is 254 MB and I need to place is in a folder outside the "Documents and Settings" folder but I still want the backup functionality.
Does anyone know how I can move the file and redirect iTunes to the new path?
I've reached my user desktop space limitation (~1,1 GB) and need to do something about it now.

First off that is not the backup file, that is the software restore file. You can safely delete any files in that folder and iTunes will merely redownload them if the need arises for you to restore your phone. The backups are located at C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup on Vista and C:\Documents and Settings\user\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup on XP (not sure about the Macs) iTunes will frequently have several un-needed backups (not the most recent) so you should look at the last edited on date and delete all but the most recent to save space and you will still have a backup to restore from.

Manually sync iphone & restoring files for particular app on particular date

I opened up a text file for a particular application (PlainText), and accidentally deleted some stuff. I was under the impression that app data got synchronised, so I thought that I would be able to examine the unmodified text by opening up itunes on the pc and looking at the app data for PlainText. However when I did that, I soon realised that there was no way to even examine the files for PlainText unless the iphone was connected. When I connected the iphone, chose Apps->File Sharing->Apps->Plain text, and then downloaded the data (via "Save To..") onto Desktop, I found that the modified text file was the one which was downloaded onto desktop. I have several questions :
1)Is the app data in this section synchronised?
2)If (1) = yes, then was the reason that I could only view the modified text file due to the fact that automatic synchronisation is taking place when I connect my iphone to computer
3)If (2) = yes, then is there a way to manually sync app data.
4)Is there any way to view the files for a particular app from the last time I synchronised the iphone with the computer? i.e. Some way which will allow me to undo the changes like the above. I do realise that there is an undo feature in the iphone by shaking the phone, but I didnt realise it at the time and therefore lost the data.

I think the answer to (1) is no for the following reason. Just now whilst the iphone was connected to itunes I created a file & folder in PlainText in the iphone, and these automatically appeared on itunes on the pc. So this particular section just seems to be the current snapshot of the iphone and not a snapshot of the apps at the last sync.

Last night I updaite my 3GS to iOS 5 and as you know I lose all my data information such as my photo video an the most important contact list . I had back up of that information in my last iTunes 10.5 but it says me "ENTER THE PASSWORD FOR UNLOCK THE iPHONE'' . I don't know what pasword it want . Can someone help me ? Ragazzi, io ho avuto lo stesso problema ieri sera. Dopo svariati tentativi, leggedo su di un altro post simile sempre in questa comunità. La password richiesta non è altro che la password di accesso del vostro pc. Lasciate perdere quella user dell'id apple ecc io ho fatto mille tentativi. Appena immessa la password della macchina il ripristino è partito correttamente ed ora il mio iphone 4 funziona di nuovo!

Explanation of Restore File?

Boy, its been weird around here the last few days. Complaints about typical problems with new products are now being taken to the nth degree. I sure hope everyone gets good news no matter which way it goes for them and things return to a little more normal atmosphere.
Here's my question(s).
Can anyone explain the file located here:

(It is an Apple Device Software Update File, approximately 607 Mb in size. The 8B503 number is what is shown on my iP4, (changed slightly for public viewing of course.))
Is this just for my old 3GS iPhone? Where is the iP4 equivalent?
Is this the downloaded 4.0.1 update file location? Or a Restore file that iTunes created?
Can this file be used in troubleshooting for problems? i.e. Temporarily trashed or removed if suspected of corruption? Like incomplete or interrupted downloads. (Similar to trashing Preference files so they will be rebuilt by the app)
...maybe even some other questions I can't think of right now...

ITunes update corrupted some of my music files so iTunes can't find the file, nor music I bought from the iTunes store.

After an iTunes generated update of iTunes, some of my music can't be accesed any more. When I try to play the file, iTunes says it can't find the link. This also happens with music I purchase from the iTunes store, so I've lost all this music; do I have to re-buy the purchased music again? My iTunes program is on my C drive, and the music library is on my D drive. In iTunes, I've set the ripped music to be placed in my D drive. The lost links are on some music files, but not others which do play music. Some compilation music files were split up into individual files, usually without LP art attached. Some album art was placed on wrong albums as well. Music with lost links have a ! mark beside the song name. File info says the link is on my C drive, but I can't find it there. Any ideas on how to get these lost files back. Thanks, Moizy.

Try this...
Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

HT2905 How to restore music to itunes after purchasing album and update itunes to newest version

Okay last night I bought the Carter IV and I had problems with my gift card. So eventually I updated my itunes to the most current for my windows 7. Now the issue is I have no music accept the purchased album, and in my "music folder" in Previous Itunes Libraries I dont see the thousands of songs and videos I had on itunes! so If anybody can help it would be most appreciated.

In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
This assumes that you are currently connected to the library file in the main iTunes folder, if you've somehow managed to connect to an alternate file then hold down shift as you start iTunes so that you get options to "Choose or create a library", then choose the library file in question.
There should shouldn't be a Music folder in Previous iTunes Libraries which makes me suspect you've picked the wrong file at some point, where it happens to be, rather than restoring it as outlined above.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

Yesterday I turned on my computer (laptop), went into ITunes and nothing was there...as though I was a new user. How can I restore my music, audiobooks, TV shows, playlists, etc? Additionally, what happened to cause this issue?

Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. I found the answer to my question.
When you attach a device (iPhone, iPad) to your Mac, in iTunes 12 in appears as a tiny icon in the second "row" of the iTunes display. Click the icon and the familiar iTunes display for the device appears. From there, on the Summary screen, you can see the dates of the backups of the device (iCloud and backup to the computer). You can also use the button to backup to the computer.

Then i decided to restore my iphone and i have download almost 4 firmware files (iPhone7,1_8.3_12F70_Restore.ipsw and iPhone7,1_8.0_12A366_Restore.ipsw and iPhone7,1_8.0.1_12A402_Restore.ipsw and fourth one is iPhone7,1_8.2_12D508_Restore.ipsw.part) and restore (by holding shift in itunes and selecting file ) using itunes ( which is current version 12.1.2.27 64 bit) but for everytime two of them(while extracting ) which are (iPhone7,1_8.3_12F70_Restore.ipsw and iPhone7,1_8.2_12D508_Restore.ipsw.part) it says "Iphone "Iphone" could not be restored becuse firmware file was corrupted please disconnect and try again later" .i have tried to download "iPhone7,1_8.3_12F70_Restore.ipsw " manually and via itunes (when i download and restore using itunes it says
"There was a problem downloading the software for the iPhone ''iPhone'' A unknown error occured (9006).
Make sure your networks settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again.''
but nothing works (While for rest of two it says firmware file is not compatible).. I'm tired of these now as i'm working on this problem for 5 days ...

What file did it say was corrupt? What error number? What is showing on your phone right now? What version of iTunes? What kind of computer?

Nope. You obviously didn't read (or didn't remember) the User Guide. I will include a link for you. If you use the iPhone as Apple recommends (so that you do NOT experience data loss), frequent backups are advised, as are synching contacts/calendars with an appropriate cloud service or computer-based contact manager like Outlook.

How to us iPhone backup file from Time Machine drive to restore iPhone

Stupidly, I deleted my primary account on my iPhone that contained my contacts and calendar. I don't currently subscribe to MobileMe. I took advantage of the free service when I bought my phone, but decided not to subscribe as I synch my iPhone to my computer and back up my computer using a hard drive connected with Time Machine. Unfortunately, when I stopped using MobileMe, a synch to my iTunes wiped out all my contact data in my Address Book on my computer and my calendar. Therefore, all my most current information was on my iPhone.
I went to the Apple store and was told that the iTunes backup file may be used to restore the contacts and calendar information on my iPhone. I synched my iPhone to iTunes and then did the iPhone restore to factory settings. Only then did I realize that the older, correct backup file was not an available option in the dropdown.
So, I'm trying to figure out how to pull an older iPhone backup file and then use it to restore the iPhone. The only thing is that when I go to Time Machine and look at an older Library --> Application Support --> Mobile Sync --> Backup folder, there's a whole bunch of .mdbackup files in there.
How do I select what I need? How do I get the iTunes protocol to run the restore on my iPhone using those files?

Select the folder that contains the .mdbackup files and use Get Info for the folder to check the date the backup was updated. I would forget about trying to extract individual .mdbackup files and transfer the entire folder to the same location on your computer's hard drive - with iTunes quit before doing so.
After doing so, this backup should be available to select when restoring your iPhone from your iPhone's backup.
If this is successful restoring contact info and calendar events on your iPhone, if the Address Book and iCal on your Mac is empty - it does not contain any data, before syncing your iPhone direct with the Address Book and iCal on your Mac, enter one unique contact in the Address Book, and one calendar event in iCal on your Mac. Make these up if needed, which can be deleted later. This will provide a merge prompt when syncing this data, which you want to select.
Does Time Machine include a backup of your Address Book and iCal on your Mac? If so, it will be much easier and faster to restore the Address Book and iCal on your Mac from your Time Machine backup.
