Redolog Paralelism

If any one kindly describe me what is redolog parallelism in oracle 9i and when it is used

I believe you are referring to log_parallelism. Please refer to 9i doc guide
http://www.cs.bris.ac.uk/maintain/oracle9docs/server.920/a96536/ch1105.htm
Please note that there is a limitation that LOG_PARALLELISM initialization parameter has to be set to 1while creating a logical standby database. This paramter is no lonfer valid in 10g

  • SAP GoLive : File System Response Times and Online Redologs design

    Hello,
A SAP Going Live Verification session has just been performed on our SAP Production environnement.
    SAP ECC6
    Oracle 10.2.0.2
    Solaris 10
As usual, we received database configuration instructions, but I'm a little bit skeptical about two of them :
    1/
We have been told that our file system read response times "do not meet the standard requirements"
The following datafile has ben considered having a too high average read time per block.
File name -Blocks read  -  Avg. read time (ms)  -Total read time per datafile (ms)
    /oracle/PMA/sapdata5/sr3700_10/sr3700.data10          67534                         23                               1553282
I'm surprised that an average read time of 23ms is considered a high value. What are exactly those "standard requirements" ?
    2/
We have been asked  to increase the size of the online redo logs which are already quite large (54Mb).
Actually we have BW loading that generates "Chekpoint not comlete" message every night.
I've read in sap note 79341 that :
"The disadvantage of big redo log files is the lower checkpoint frequency and the longer time Oracle needs for an instance recovery."
Frankly, I have problems undertanding this sentence.
Frequent checkpoints means more redo log file switches, means more archive redo log files generated. right ?
But how is it that frequent chekpoints should decrease the time necessary for recovery ?
    Thank you.
Any useful help would be appreciated.

    Hello
    >> I'm surprised that an average read time of 23ms is considered a high value. What are exactly those "standard requirements" ?
The recommended ("standard") values are published at the end of sapnote #322896.
23 ms seems really a little bit high to me - for example we have round about 4 to 6 ms on our productive system (with SAN storage).
    >> Frequent checkpoints means more redo log file switches, means more archive redo log files generated. right?
    Correct.
    >> But how is it that frequent chekpoints should decrease the time necessary for recovery ?
A checkpoint is occured on every logswitch (of the online redologfiles). On a checkpoint event the following 3 things are happening in an oracle database:
Every dirty block in the buffer cache is written down to the datafiles
The latest SCN is written (updated) into the datafile header
The latest SCN is also written to the controlfiles
If your redologfiles are larger ... checkpoints are not happening so often and in this case the dirty buffers are not written down to the datafiles (in the case of no free space in the buffer cache is needed). So if your instance crashes you need to apply more redologs to the datafiles to be in a consistent state (roll forward). If you have smaller redologfiles more log switches are occured and so the SCNs in the data file headers (and the corresponding data) are closer to the newest SCN -> ergo the recovery is faster.
But this concept does not really fit the reality because of oracle implements some algorithm to reduce the workload for the DBWR in the case of a checkpoint.
There are also several parameters (depends on the oracle version) which control that a required recovery time is kept. (for example FAST_START_MTTR_TARGET)
    Regards
    Stefan

  • How to read the contents of redolog files?

    Hi,
I would want to read the contents of the redolog files on my database.
Actually, I can't because these files are binary files*. I would want to know if there is a way to read these redolog files , if for example Oracle has tools to learn these redolog files.
    Thanks.

In order to read the content of the Redo Log files, you should use Logminer Utility
Please refer to the documentation for more information:

  • Standby redologs in the standby database

    Hi All,
I am preparing the standby database using RMAN creation steps. I am confusing in one area. I have standby redologs in the Primary server. When we issue the duplicate target database for standby dorecover nofilenamecheck command, is it create the standby redologs in the standby database or not ?
    please cofirm

    Hi,
no, you must to create standby redo logs manually.
    This script may help you
select 'alter database add standby logfile '''||
    regexp_substr(MEMBER,'/.+/')||'stdby_'||
    regexp_replace(member,regexp_substr(MEMBER,'/.+/'),'')||
''' size '||bytes||';' "Create Standby redo"

  • Want to move datafiles, controlfiles, redolog on new ASM Disks (11gR2 RAC)

    Hi Guys,
Setup: Two Node 11gR2 (11.2.0.1) RAC on RHEL 5.4
Existing disks are from Old SAN & New Disks are from New SAN.
Can I move all datafiles (+DATA), controlfiles (+CTRL), redolog (+REDO) on new ASM Disks by adding disks in is same Diskgroup & dropping older disks from existing Diskgroup taking advantage of ASM Re-balancing Feature.
    1) add required disks in the DATA Diskgroups,
    ALTER DISKGROUP DATA ADD DISK
    '/dev/oracleasm/disks/NEWDATA3' NAME NEWDATA_0003,
    '/dev/oracleasm/disks/NEWDATA4' NAME NEWDATA_0004,
    '/dev/oracleasm/disks/NEWDATA5' NAME NEWDATA_0005
    REBALANCE POWER 11;
    Check rebalance status from v$ASM_OPERATION.
    2) When rebalance completes, drop the old disks.
    ALTER DISKGROUP DATA DROP DISK
    NEWDATA_0000,
    NEWDATA_0001
    REBALANCE POWER 11;
    Check rebalance status from v$ASM_OPERATION.
    3) Do it same for Redo log groups & Controlfile Diskgroups.
I hope, I could do this Activity, even if database is Up. is there possibility of Database block Corruption ??? (or is it necessary to perform above steps when database is down)
Would be appreciated, your quick responses on the same.
    It's an urgent requirement. Thanks.

    Hi Manish,
Yes you can do that by adding new disk to existing diskgroup and delete old diskgroup. The good thing is this can be done online however you need to make sure the rebalance power is meet your business time, higher rebalance power is faster to rebalance to complete however it also will consume more resources

  • How do I delete Windows 7 from Paralells so that I can use the Product Key on a different computer?

I bought Windows 7 to install on my Mac via Paralells. When I wasn't home, my brother took it and installed it on his computer. Now, I was able to install Windows 7 on my computer but I cannot activate it, since I can only use the Product Key for one computer. How can I get the Product Key deactivated so that I can use it on my computer?

  • Adding more redolog groups in 11.1.0.7

i have oracle e-business suite (R12.1.1) and database is ( 11.1.0.7) on red hat enterprise linux 5.3 . All of this is 64 bit.
i have a database about 200 gb which is as usual growing day by day as data entry is taking place.
i have 2 redolog groups each containing 2 members having size of 1000MB each.
now i want to convert my database to archive log .
How many redolog groups i add more and i should keep the same size of members as in already defined redolog groups i.e 1000 mb.
Keeping the size of 1000 is good or i should decrease it ?
    Please suggest

You can set instance parameter FAST_START_MTTR_TARGET to have Oracle estimation for optimal redo log size: please read
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e16638/instance_tune.htm#PFGRF94563
THe text from this page tells to run V$INSTANCE_RECOVERY and the value for OPTIMAL_LOGFILE_SIZE
( and i run this query select from V$INSTANCE_RECOVERY and the value for OPTIMAL_LOGFILE_SIZE is NULL).
    Please suggest.

  • How to recover physically lost redolog files -11g

    Hi All
One of my Development databases lost all the redologs physically( 3 members were in same location) and i have 6th June full RMAN Backup. I could find errors since yesterday about 2 PM in alert log as follows
    Thu Jun 09 14:36:15 2011
    Errors in file /data01/app/oracle/diag/rdbms/ndsd/ndsd/trace/ndsd_arc3_15667.trc:
ORA-00313: open failed for members of log group 2 of thread 1
    ORA-00312: online log 2 thread 1: '/data03/oradata/ndsd/redo/redo02.log'
ORA-27037: unable to obtain file status
Linux-x86_64 Error: 2: No such file or directory
But there were changes done to the database up to yesterday 4 PM and need to recover completely.
Appriciate if some one can advice me on this issue
    Regards
    Karunika

I could recover the database and thank youGood. Now that you've put out the fire, you need to be finding out how it was you lost all of your redo and make a plan to prevent it from happening again. To that end ..
Let me guess .. since your redo logs were named something dot log, someone was doing some housekeeping and thought there'd be no harm in deleting a log file. Up until 10g, the default names for redo logs was *.rdo. Shortly after my first upgrade to 10g, with the default of *.log, I twice had to recover due to some SA reclaiming space by deleting "log" files. Since then I've continued to name by redo logs *.rdo.
And whether that was the cause or not, I hope you now see why it is strongly recommended that your multiplexed redo logs - the different members of each group - are as physically separate as possible. Ideally, they are on separate physical discs going through separate disk controllers. But at the very minimum they should be in separate directories to at the very least protect you from "rm *.log"

You should not need or want to click WiFi in Parallels. It should use whatever connection the Host, OS X, is using, whether WiFi or hard wired Ethernet. It is a Virtual Machine and Virtualized all the hardware in the Host system. There is NO Virtual WiFi adapter.
I think that is your problem. You are trying to FORCE it to use the WiFi.

  • How can I determine the number and sizes of redologs?

    Dear all,
How can I determine the number and sizes of redologs are sufficient to allow redo log switching while hot backup is in progress?
    Please advice,
    Amy

Two questions here - what the OP put as the subject title and what was asked in the thread, which are different questions.
I would interpret the question in the thread to mean "how to avoid hanging due to archiving waiting for a redo log group to become available." Alert log, wait events, and user complaints would be the source of information here.

  • Exchange rate differences not posted in paralel currency

    Hi gurus,
I have a difficult one. I have the followign situation:
    1)     We are using CLP for Local Currency (pesos chilenos)
    2)     We are using USD for Local 2 Currency (group)
    3)             We have implemented the Material Ledger (USD currency)
We have a problem when we post an Invoice (trx MIRO) with different date of the good recive. The currency of the purchase order is the same as the local currency (pesos chilenos CLP).
The problem is that the posting in the paralel currency does not post the Exchange Difference between the GR and the IV,  instead the posting is with charge to the u201Cprice differenceu201D.
Does any body know if it is possible to post this difference as "Exchange rate difference?.
    Regards,
    Santiago

    Hi,
Thanks Shaubhikg. This OSS notes describes about how the closing entries takes care of the both price and exchange differences of the material procured and production variances. But still my answer is unanswered.
My worry ts that  since the exchange differences were captured in accounts of KDM but not seen when I see the material in CKM3. Any more inputs from you or from other fellow brethern!

  • XP problems with Paralells.

Has anyone had problems with installing XP in Paralells?
I tried with 2 different discs and get the same error on both. Something like it can't copy over all files needed. I have not tried boot camp due to fear of the same error. Is their any way to undo boot camp partition. If I was unsuccessful.

I don't know about you but Dell does not equal OEM
(original equipment manufacture). An OEM copy of
Windows is a standard copy, which must be purchased
along with a piece of computer hardware; no different
from the one you'd pick up at Best Buy. The copy
that comes with Dell is a restoration CD. The OEM CD
can be used with the Boot Camp instillation process.
Let's not split hairs. Some vendors (I wouldn't know, I built my PCs) will give you a genuine Microsoft Windows XP disc. That disc is uninhibited and could be used for installation on any computer.
Other vendors (Dell I know as we use them at work) provide restore CDs, which are "OEM" in the sense that they are hardware-locked (the setup program looks for a Dell BIOS or service tag), or do not provide end-user access to the setup program (put in the CD, it reformats your hard drive and copies its own version of Windows). Other OEM discs (HP used to do this) contain extra programs for their hardware; they may or may not work on non-HP hardware.
If your CD is a geniune Windows XP CD, and you can use it, i.e. run its setup program and install on any machine you like, it's not an OEM disc.

  • Paralells help please

Hello I am using paralells to run Windows XP on my Macbook Pro. I have the latest version and can't get my bluetooth to work in windows. How do I release it from the mac and use it in windows. I even tried and external usb dongle. Also I use my razr to go on the internet through bluetooth and can't get it to work in windows.
    Thanks Steven

What does bluetooth have to do with accessing the internet? Are you trying to access the internet via some sort of tethered bluetooth phone? If not, are you sure you don't mean you want to share Airport (Wifi). That is a simple setting in parallels. It's called bridged ethernet. Just choose default adapter and you'll have perfect internet.
