Reduced group chat commands and roles?

Hello, I recently noticed a lack of chat commands in newly created group conversations. In an old group conversation (created around July/August 2013) where I hold the MASTER role, /help gives me this set of commands:  Available commands:
 /me [text]
 /topic [text]
 /add [skypename+]
 /alertson [text]
 /alertsoff
 /leave
 /get creator
 /get role
 /whois [skypename]
 /setrole [skypename] MASTER|HELPER|USER|LISTENER
 /kick [skypename]
 /kickban [skypename]
 /get uri
 /get options
 /set options [[+|-]flag] ..
 /setpassword [password] [password hint]
 /clearpassword
 /get password_hint
 /get banlist
 /get allowlist
 /set banlist [[+|-]mask] ..
 /set allowlist [[+|-]mask] ..
 /golive [token]
 /invite [skypename]
 /fork [skypename+]
 /help
For more help please see http://www.skype.com/go/help.chathelp  However, in a new conversation which I /fork'ed from this old one yesterday (also created a new conversation with the same result), I hold the ADMIN role and only have this list of commands: Available commands:
 /me [text]
 /topic [text]
 /add [skypename+]
 /alertson [text]
 /alertsoff
 /leave
 /setrole [skypename] MASTER|USER
 /kick [skypename]
 /get blob
 /get uri
 /get options
 /set options [[+|-]flag] ..
 /golive [token]
 /invite [skypename]
 /showmembers
 /help
For more help please see http://www.skype.com/go/help.chathelp "Old" commands like /fork are also not available in the new conversations but still in the older ones.I also noticed that the role CREATOR seems to have changed to ADMIN and the HELPER and LISTENER roles have been removed. Are my observation correct and if yes, is there any statement on this already?

Everything Elaine said above is correct. Please take a look at the FAQ which explains:
That there are two types of group chats (cloud group chats and legacy peer to peer chats)
Which group chat commands are available for each type
How you can tell them apart using the /get name chat command

the faq isn't even updated and i still have reduced chat commands.
Can you explain what information you think is missing from the FAQ?

Hello to all, there are two confliting articles about this topic:

       2-
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee692314(office.13).aspx: this other article says that it will function "Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Group Chat will function in a Windows Server 2008 R2 forest". This article was updated in

What is the correct support position for Group Chat feature in Office Communications Server 2007 R2 and Windows Server 2008 R2 domains?
       Regards, EEOC.

    Hi,
I notice the following sentence in the link below “Office Communications Server 2007 R2, Group Chat will not function in a Windows Server 2008 R2 forest or when Group Chat member servers are joined to a Windows Server 2008 R2 domain.
We know of an issue with changes in Windows 2008 R2 that requires a Group Chat Client and Group Chat Admin Tools hotfix. The Group Chat Client and Group Chat Admin Tools hotfixes are currently scheduled for mid-April 2010.”

So in my opinion, if you update to the latest version of Windows Server 2008 R2, OCS Server 2007 R2 and Group Chat Client, Group Chat Admin Tools to the latest version, it should work.
However, the best method for you is make a lab to test the problem firstly.

  • Is there a decent and newbie-friendly group chat solution available?

The problem: we want to move away from Skype for our group chats, but can't find a satisfying alternative.
What we do right now: we use group chats a lot, for various purposes, but mainly a) discussing certain topics, or b) planning activities/inviting people over, etc. People use all kinds of different operating systems.
Currently we use Skype for that. The advantage of Skype is its ease of use: users can create group chats by simply clicking on a few names. Chats are persistent: if you go online and come back the next day, you'll still be in the chat, and you will be able to read what was discussed in the meantime. If you add somebody to a chat, they are in it immediately, without having to enter a room address, or a password, or something like that. The participants of a chat control who gets added to it, and you cannot join a chat without being invited.
The disadvantage is its closedness, which makes us depend on a single vendor's client software and their monetary interests. Plus it has been bought by Microsoft, so the future of the already lagging development of the Linux version is unclear - and users of other OSes have been generally unhappy with the recent versions. Also users can not integrate Skype into already existing multi-protocol-messengers like Pidgin, they have to run the official Skype version at all times they want to chat at.
Quite a while ago a couple of us made an attempt to move our group chats to Jabber, but the acceptance was really low - opening a chat room was a hassle, they had to be password protected to be private, invitations weren't automatic, or the invitation features of clients were buggy, and by going offline you left a chat room, meaning people had to rejoin the next time they were online, and didn't automatically get to read the conversation that was held while they had been away. IRC is out of the question too, because it lags nearly all the features mentioned above.
Now I am wondering if anybody here knows about a free, open Chat software, that makes group chat (nearly) as easy as they are in Skype.

Well, IRC does not meet quite a few of our criteria. A typical chat lifecycle might look like this:
User A decides he wants to play football the next week. He starts a chat, adds 10 contacts that he knows might be interested, and makes a suggestion for a date and time. People come online, instantly see the chat and everything that has been written, answer, etc. Others join the chat later, see what has been said, and leave. Somebody might invite a couple of others to the chat, which will be immediately added. People play football, have a bit of postgame discussion, and then either plan the next session, or the chat dies.
I just do not see how this is a workflow that we can easily achieve with IRC - at least not in a way that people will be happy with.
    - you can not automatically add people to a chat afaik
    - chat history is not persistent afaik
    - you do not necessarily want everybody to be able to just join a chat, but you also do not want to do a lot of configuration to restrict access to a chat/channel, when it might be about tonights event.
    - people do not want to type /join #birthday_present_for_xyz, they just want to be added
I don't know why, but the openmeetings demo just doesn't really work for me - I get a lot of connection errors, it's painfully slow and hangs itself.

  • Using Dynamic Groups in Ldap for Accounts and Roles

Does anyone currently use dynamic groups in LDAP for accounts and roles? I have set up a dynamic group in ldap (we are using OID Oracle internet Directory 10.1.2.0) , ldapsearch returns the correct list of unique names, but the account does not appear on my profile page when I log in to UCM (10.1.3). I cannot find any documentation so I'm asking myself if it is supported .....

Thanks tim ... will check, but Oracle are saying :
Oracle Universal Content Management - Version: 7.5.1
Information in this document applies to any platform.
    Product: Content Server
    Version: 6.0
    Goal
Can the Content Server's LDAP provider support, or can it be configured to support, dynamic LDAP groups?
    Solution
The Content Server by itself is unable to process dynamic LDAP groups since the filter that is used cannot read dynamic groups. However, dynamic groups can still work in the Content Server if the permissions for the queried user are generated on the LDAP server side. For example: Novell and Active Directory both have this functionality.
to which I have replied you suport 3rd party ldaps, but not your own? Shurely shome mishtake ..... if ldap search works in a seamless way, surely provider should too ....
Billy, you may well be right, just got a cashflow problem over here !

  • Making users available for OpenSSO realm group and role assignment?? Help.

Here is the situation. We have 3 Open SSO realms set up. One we have called OpenSSO-Admin, a second called OpenSSO-Provider and a third OpenSSO-Internal. We are having issues provisioning and managing the OpenSSO-Internal OpenSSO-Provider realms, but OpenSSO-Admin seems to be fine.
Here is the behavior that is manifest.
In the 2 'broken' realms, when we create users and assign them to the appropriate Open SSO realm, they appear to be provisioned correctly in IDM as well as the realm (We have validated user creation in LDAP and everything about the user appears to be fine). When we view the groups and roles in the specific resources, we are presented with a list of users that are in Brackets and appear to be provisioned. The brackets indicate that the users are not found as available users. The bracketed users can not be unassigned, nor can any others. note, our bracketed users in the list of assigned users are created from a workflow which assigns them directly to the appropriate group and role based on their business role.
The third realm, OpenSSO-Admin works fine and we can add, and manage users in the groups and roles within the realm.
We have ruled out the workflow as a source as the problem persists when we use the tool to manage users. We can create a user from scratch and add them to the realms. In the 'Broken' relms, the users do not appear in thelist of available users to be assigned to the groups or roles. Yet in the 'good realm, everything appears fine. We can move users from one realm to another and the problem persists in the broken realms, but when a user is added to the 'good' realm, everything is fine.
I have tried reconciling and get no different results.
Question is, We have isolated that the issue seems to be in the generation / management of the left hand "Available Users" list. How and where is this generated from and how can we check/fix or regenerate this list?
    Thanks.
    Joe

I should clarify. We are using Sun IDM 8.1

  • How to access the mapping of Groups and Roles in the JAVA Application

We have mapped the EJB roles with the groups through the Visual Administrator. We have developed the SSO. We have developed the application through which we are creating the user and role and mapping that role with the created user. The created role is saved in some LDAP directory. The second application in which ejb methods are mapped with some security roles. The LDAP roles we are getting in Netweaver as groups and we can perform the mapping of the deployed ejb roles with the group. Now for the logged in user we want to get the roles mapped with it so that we can give/deny the access to the methods from EJB as per the role of that user .How we will get the access to the mappings of the roles with the group in the application, if I know the LDAP roles mapped with the user (since these roles are accessible as groups in the NetWeaver)
For e.g.  From application created the user with the role as "manager". This role is stored in iPlanet directory.
This directory is mapped in the Netweaver. The manager role is displayed as the group in the Netweaver.
Created the EJB application with the method "displayTheAccountDetails() with the role as "ManagerRole"
This role is mapped with the manager group. Now we are having the details about the logged in user and the LDAP roles mapped to it (maneger role). How I will get the access to the details that for this group which ejb role is mapped in the application. So depending on that I can allow/deny the access to the ""displayTheAccountDetails()" method to the logged in user.

    Do you, guys, work together?

I have a monthly limit of 1000 text so I dont want to go over my plan by being in this group if the iMessage doesnt work because of that one android user.

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

  • Can't Join Group Chats, Can't Receive Files, and Skype Home Doesn't Work

Okay, so back when Windows 8 was newer I got my current laptop and when I saw Skype's original Windows 8 design, I said hell no to that and downloaded an earlier version of Skype instead. When Skype did that big overhaul and stopped support for all older versions, I was at least happy to see it was back to being on the desktop instead of that Windows 8 pseudo-tablet nonsense. But at the same time, I stopped getting notifications from Skype Home - it always says it's unavailable. Some time after that, in between Skype's updates, I started having trouble with Groups. Every time someone tried to add me to one, I couldn't see it, even if they said I was in it on their screen. Eventually I had to start making all Group Chats myself, because at least then it worked for me... up until the 7.7 update. Now no matter how I try to get into a Group now, it straight up doesn't work. And before I got locked out of Groups entirely, I started having issues with files, right around when the "inline photos" thing happened - they just don't work when sent to me, and I can't send them either. When people try to send them to me it's just a grey image and something about how it's not supported or it didn't go through.  I've sort of just been patiently dealing with all of it until the newest update when Groups stopped working entirely and I was in the middle of trying to join an important conversation. I Googled that specific issue and found a ton of unresolved threads about it dating back to at least 2013, I believe. I tried every suggestion I could find - I restarted, uninstalled Skype, reinstalled Skype, restarted after uninstalling and then reinstalling... the list goes on. Every time I got it back, it was the same. Now I'm on Windows 8.1, and I don't know if that's related, but my boyfriend - who uses a Mac - is having none of these problems whatsoever, and he also has the latest version of Skype.  With older versions of Skype not available, I ended up trying Skype Web, and it's letting me see all the Groups, which is the most important thing but I'd really prefer to go back to the desktop version. All three of my issues might be unrelated, but they've all progressed as Skype has updated so I figured I'd try to get help for all of them. I'm at my wit's end, here. I use Skype for a pretty large portion of my online communication, and being unable to use Groups or get files is really crippling the experience.

    Hi,
    I have the same problem.
Since I'm using my new Laptop with Skype 7.0, I can't join to a group chat.
It's a public chat and joining is enabled.
With my former laptop and former Skype-Version, I never had this problem.
I could click on a link in the browser and joined to the group.
I have to chose a program.
Unfortunately Skype.exe seems not to be the right decision.
I'm asked to get a Skype-app, which I never needed with the old version.
Which kind of app do I need and how can I get the app or what else can I do?

  • Transport roles (with assigned group) containing folders and iviews

    Hi,
This message was in the BI forum before and I think that it suits here better.
I created a portal role which is contained in a folder X under Portal Content. This portal role is associated with a particular ABAP menu-role by means of Assigned Groups. When I transported the folder X with all dependent objects from Dev to QA, the portal role appeared but the Assigned Groups is empty. Another words, the association between portal role and the ABAP menu-role could not be transported. How can Associated Groups in a Portal Role be transported?
Then I also tried to do the following steps:
    1. Export and import portal contents which include the whole structure with folders, roles and iviews under each role.
    2. Export and import the same roles as user management data
The result from 1 was that the whole structure including the roles is imported; however none of the portal role contains the associated assigned group.
The result from 2 was that the UME roles with assigned group are imported as separat objects.
Now, the same role appears both as portal role without assigned group and the UME object with assigned group. But, there is no connection between 1 and 2. That means that I cannot use 2 anyway.
Therefore, I still have to manuelly modify 1 with assigned role once again after importing step 1. Is there a way to import 1 with the associated assigned group without any manuel modification?
Thank you in advance for any helpful advice.
    Best regards,
    Zabrina

  • Difference between Groups and roles?

    Hi All,
What is the difference between groups and roles?
Thanks for your time and help.

Oracle does not have anything called a 'group'.
A role is a named object that can contain a set of privileges. The members of the set can be individual privileges or can be another role that contains its own set of privileges. Roles can then be granted to users (or to other roles) so that those users (or roles) have the specified privileges.

  • Skype slow with sending and recieving messaged in group chat

I seem to have no trouble with ordinary one to one shat, but when i'm in a group chat it takes a very long time for my message to be sent it just stays gray and have that loading circle to the left.
Also some messages recieved are recieved many minutes after they are originally written, making a group chat very confusing overall...

  • Hhmm, I want to put in a complaint and I end up on group chat line......don't get me started on 9808 and 1202...

    Dear Apple,
I am glad that I can finally send you an email.  This email is in regards to your ITUNES.
I think what you have done is amazing.  However, being a customer I think you need to support your internet customer users more.  Downloading APPLE ITUNES is very stressful (if you can do it that is), in fact it's an absolute nightmare and I dread it......it's a topic of conversation between friends and family, that is not a positive thing for APPLE, if that is what is happening within my group, I can assure you that is happening in alot of other groups around the globe.  You would have lost thousands of dollars just within my group of friends and family that have given up on trying to download you ITUNES.
You need to support your customers by explaining what to do if they get errors such as '9808' or '1202' ...........or anything else when trying to download your product.  People spend hours looking up their songs/movies ect and putting them on their wishlist, to find that they can spend even more hours trying to download and buy then.  You have ALL of our information, including credit card details, and yet your system will not accept our purchase, yet you give us NO information on why we get these errors??  'Change the date and time on your computer' is what APPLE says..........that was a complete load of rubbish, my computers date and time was correct, after 2 hours of searching the internet 2 months ago I finally found a blog from a guy who explained that all it took was one tick in the security settings......and it worked, it had nothing to do with my computers date or time.....
I am an ex music industry employee so I like to be honest to the artists and do the right thing for the music industry and pay for my music........but APPLE is not letting me??  I have spent the last 2 hours trying to spend $500??  (that is not including the times before that I have tried to buy and had no success so deleted my wishlist in frustrasion)   I know in the APPLE world that my purcahse is  peanuts, but believe me, I am one of many, so I think that you should listen to my 'real life' story...
On my Sunday night on the computer trying to download songs.......I tried to download songs on this day toNo  share with my family............. No success after 2 hours.........Do you get my drift........Really??  Should it be this hard??
OK, I have had my whinge, but all I ask is that you explain what settings people need to have on their computers.......APPLE needs to look after their customers, not let other people tell us that we need to spend money on a program to get rid of these errors.........Look after your customers APPLE, you have our email addresses, you have our names, you have our addresses, you even have our credit card details........C'mon, the least you can do is have the decency to give us the information so that we can access your product without causing stress.
Anyway that's enough from me for now.  Unfortunatley we do not have the music that we were looking forward to tonight due to 9808 then 1202, but luckily I have other good music.
I sincerely hope that you do something about this issue.
    Kindest Regards,
    Danni

  • Not receiving messages from group chats

It all started with this notification: (Name) needs to update Skype to participate in this chat. Help by sending them to skype.com/updateme. Learn more about new group chat. I immediately tried to update skype by going to the given link, but the message is still showing up when I am added to a group chat or call. Whenever messages are sent to the group, I can only see them if I log out of skype and log back in, there is also a similar bug happening where my friends tell me they have added me to the groups and the groups dont show up on my recent chats... not even if I log out or log back in but only if they start a call. I have already tried uninstalling and reinstalling skype, resetting skype, and "updating" it by going to skype.com/updateme and downloading the windows desktop client link that is given. I am on windows 8. I really need help fixing this ): Thanks

Hi Guys, you need to follow the below instructions in order to get rid of this issue:
    1. First of all, sign out from Skype application and close it completely by clicking on “Quit Skype”.
    2. Once you are done with it, you need to go Run Command (Run command is accessible through the Start menu or through the shortcut key ⊞ Win+R) & type %appdata% and press enter.
    3. A window will appear on your screen and you will see “Skype” folder in it. Please delete that Skype folder and then try to reopen the Skype application. And you will be able to receive/send group messages now.
(Please note the last instruction may not work if you have not followed the first instruction correctly).
