Refactoring problem

I have an iPhone project that needs some refactoring. The problem is that the refactoring option is greyed out and not matter what I do, I am unable to refactor anything in this project. If I start a new iPhone project, the refactor menu is selectable and I am able to refactor easily. What am I doing wrong ? Is there some option I am missing?
Thanks.

To those that are having the same problem, I did not find a real solution, but I moved everything to a new project and the "magic" refactor button works properly. Hope that helps.
orangekay, your regressive response is obviously that from an old dog that can't learn new tricks. With your line of thinking, we would still be driving around in horse-drawn carriages.

  • Refactoring problem in JDeveloper

    Hi,
    I have the following refactoring problems in JDeveloper 10.1.3.2:
    1) When refactoring Associations, Entity/View Objects, Java classes ... and running my application again, I get some errors. These errors are for the reason that all the references to the refactored file/object have not been updated properly and the application can't find the refactored file/object.
    2) Some files can not be refactored although the Refactor menu item exists for them.
    3) When moving a file using refactor, the file gets deleted from its original location and created at the new location. This makes the versioning history of that file to be deleted in CVS. I think the file should be branched to preserve its history.
    Are these bugs or there are solutions for them?
    Thanks,
    Saeed
    P.S.: The problem in item one does not exist in my colleagues machine although everything is the same in our machines.

    Hi Timo,
    Thanks for your reply. I can put the last version number along with a comment that the file has been moved and is not new really but it doesn't help me because I want all the versioning history of the file and not only the last one and I also can not put all the previous histories to the comment manually.
    About using subversion that you suggested I have to say that our project is based on CVS and is on the development phase now so it's almost impossible to switch it to something else.

  • Entity bean (ejb 3.0) refactoring problem

    I didn't find a better method than regenerating an entity bean after modifying the table definition and renaming the class after deleting the old one.
    I'm not sure i can delete the old class representing the entity bean before regenerating it without any effects into the others entity beans.
    It work fine but still a little problem. The refactoring process didn't change the name of the entity bean into the select clauses into queynamed injection.

    I am facing a similar problem. Does JDeveloper 10g (10.1.3.3.0) provide an automatic process to update an Entity Bean definition when the underlying database table definition changes?
    I also noticed that for JDeveloper to create all the relationships (i.e. @OneToMany, @ManyToOne) between multiple Entity beans, I need to create all the Entity beans together in one pass using the wizard. If two entities depend on each other, and not created together, JDeveloper will not create the relationships between them. Is there a way around that?
    Thank you

  • Is the Refactor Bug fixed in 11.1.2?  I really need an Oracle opinion...

    Hello Everyone:
    I have been trying to utilize the performance enhancing Best Practise of creating a re-usable Business Components .jar file for everyone to use that creates a JDeveloper Application.
    This re-usable .jar file, originally created in 10g, had hours and hours of work spent on functionally grouping entities using refactor, re-naming ambiguously named database constraints into understandable descriptive associations using refactor, creating display types of checkBox and Uppercase (in Control Hints), include any simple Validations and labelling each and every column for inclusion in projects (in Control Hints). The intent was to have this Entity layer ready and done for people to pick up and use. Create their View Objects from, and fly from there. Every other tool we have used for Application Development has allowed us to have a database layer that is created once and then used by everyone.
    Unfortunately, we have not been flying with JDeveloper and there appears to be a Bug in the Refactor functionality. We started creating this .jar file in 10.1.3.3 and migrated it to 11.1.1.4 which is what we are still on.
    I believe that we are still having residual code from the 10g Refactor problem and it is detailed in this pretty much ignored (except for 2 kind individuals) forum post. These two individuals confirmed that they too have to go in and MANUALLY change the .xml files after refactoring using a "trail and error" method.
    Getting "Unable to find referenced object" at random when opening JDev
    So I have come to the conclusion that we need to start from scratch and re-do all this work. This question is to ask if the factoring in 11.1.2 works correctly. According to the following documentation (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E16162_01/web.1112/e16182/refactoring.htm) Table 37.1, we SHOULD be able to do this with no problem.
    Because 11.1.2 now allows a database such as ours that does NOT have pre-populated keys (Primary keys from model (6894412)), I am figuring that I should re-do everything in 11.1.2 from scratch. So I am asking here if
    1) Has anyone done a LOT of refactoring in 11.1.2 and know it to work?
    2) Any input on the start from scratch approach?
    3) Is there some shortcuts to allow me to use things such as manipulating the code from the 10g Message Bundle files into the ModelBundle file so that all those months and months of work are not completely lost?
    4) If anyone knows how to easily bring over Display_Type = checkBox code from what I already have in our current 11.1.1.4 .jar file to a new, from scratch, 11.1.2 Business Components .jar file?
    I appreciate any response. To note, we have not converted over to 11.1.2 because we are waiting for the JHeadstart release that supports it as we use JHeadstart.
    Thanks very much.

  • (oracle.jbo.ConfigException) JBO-33001 after refactoring in the Model.

    Guys,
    Can someone please help with this annoying problem...
    I have done some refactoring of application modules in my Model, and now I keep getting the following error when I start up my application, and call the static method Configuration.createRootApplicationModule (...) :-
    (oracle.jbo.ConfigException) JBO-33001: Cannot find the configuration file /uk/co/xxxx/xxxxxx/common/bc4j.xcfg in the classpath
    The above package name ("uk.co.xxxx.xxxxxx") is my old location of the application module. What I want to know is what is, where is JDeveloper still picking this up from?? I have checked my DataBindings.cpx in my View, and it is not getting it from there!
    More info - At startup I have a AppModuleManager which loads a couple of application modules which I will use to call various service methods at startup, to cache reference data. I do this like so : -
    ApplicationModule myAppModule =
    Configuration.createRootApplicationModule(Common.APPLICATION_MODULES_HOME, Common.MY_LOCAL_AM);
    appModules.put (Common.MY_LOCAL_AM, thurbonAppModule);
    Oh, and the Javadoc on the Configuration class desperately needs updating in 10.1.3! The documentation there tells you to do the following :-
    Configuration c = new Configuration( Configuration.buildConfigFileName("package10")); Hashtable env = c.getConfiguration("Oracle8iCorba"); ApplicationModuleHome home = (ApplicationModuleHome)ic.lookup( env.get(Configuration.APPMODULE_JNDI_NAME); ..... .....
    One obvious snag is that there is no constructor that takes a String in the Configuration class....
    F.Y.I> I am using JDeveloper 10.1.3.36.73, with the recent service release.
    I have managed a couple of "work-arounds" to this problem, including deploying the bc4j.xcfg in the "old place", and also using the "loadFromReader" method, passing it a FileReader of my config file, but clearly these are not ideal... Therefore could someone please give me some ideas as to where it is picking up my old bc4j.xcfg from??
    Many thanks.......Dean

    Thankyou for your comments Steve.
    To answer your points :-
    Full ADF Source is available for supported customers by opening a TAR on Metalink and asking for it.I will look into this option... Thanks for the URL to the details.
    2) I did use the inbuilt refactoring in JDeveloper - I would never manually refactor within a IDE because I am aware of the hidden effects this can have on various configuration files. However, as I mentioned above, there is quite a bit of "rubbish" lying around from earlier versions - In particular the 10.1.2 (refactoring here had all sorts of problems), and the 10.1.3 EA release. It was fixing problems caused by unsuccessful project migrations in these versions that also caused me to manually visit project files.
    The Configuration.createRootApplicationModule() is not typically required for any of our > UI clients. Other layers of the framework acquire the AM instance for you as part of > creating the binding context. . 3) I suspected as much, but an awful lot of URL links referred me to this mechanism if you do a search on using service methods via ADF on Google, and it was easy to implement. Incidentally, as I mentioned, I only use this mechanism for loading complex reference data Collections at startup for fast validation later, and when Actions require me to kick off Stored Procedures and complex business logic, which I have implemented via service methods... I think this solution works fine for me but perhaps I need to change the way I call the service methods from the client? Incidnetally, the access required is stateless in these instances. Would you still recommend me to change this to obtain AM access via the binding context, and if so why?
    I
    I shall have a read of your presentation now with interest - Being relatively new to Swing development using ADF / JDeveloper 10.1.3 I have found the business benefits it provides really good, but I have been frustrated in finding good quality relevent documentation for 10.1.3.
    As for my other comments about "bugs" in 10.1.3.. Of course I expect to find a few bugs and annoyances... I can see that 10.1.3 is a big jump from 10.1.2, and it is certainly much better; I am also realistic enough to appreciate the time pressures you would have been under to push to market, and obviously it is definitely the case that many of your competitors initial major software releases are full of bugs (I mention RSA 6 was, and I could have named others). I am confident that each service release of 10.1.3 will iron out the "quirks", for example :-
    i) CVS integration is still not quite right - Delays in picking up new software that has been checked in, which I can pick up if I switch to Tortoise..
    ii) Refactoring problems - Actually, I have not experienced any recently... (I am on SR1)
    iii) Code generation quirks...eg. Why does it generate an implementation for methods in a interface?
    But please keep focus on the (lack of) documentation issues, aka you recent blog posting.
    Best regards......Dean

  • ADF set value problem when commiting forms..

    We are setting a binded item value using falowing expression.

    inputText47.setValue(sahis.getAttribute("UserId"));
    AdfFacesContext.getCurrentInstance().addPartialTarget(inputText47);
    AdfFacesContext.getCurrentInstance().partialUpdateNotify(inputText47)
    Everything same OK.
    But when we press #{bindings.Commit.execute} button
    inputText47's value dissapears.
    Urgent help needs.
    Thanks a lot.

    it seem a binding refactoring problem.
    We have added the columns of inputText47 after that page designed.
    So Even we add this item to the screen it doesn't save its value to the database when committed.
    is it possible to solve this problem?
    The page is faily complext. So we don't want to redesign it.

  • Is Note Chasing (Playback from Downbeat) Fixed in L9?

    Wondering if L9's behavior is any improved over the following...
    One of my biggest problems with L8 is the (well-documented) bug where notes which occur on a hard downbeat won't sound when playback begins from that downbeat (occurs with softsynths/instrument plugs). Case in point: I want to start playback from bar 51_11. I have notes quantized to 51_11. If I start playback from bar 5, those notes will not sound.
    Is the behavior any improved in L9?

    Hi,
    We use the following to lookup the application module instances, cast them to the client interface then call the method directly. Refactor problem solved, throws JBOException only problem solved, getErrors().isEmpty() silliness solved, and that code integrate itself with the task flow transaction seamlessly (which was to be exacted since the data binding layer does pretty much the same to get its AM instances).
    public static <T extends ApplicationModule> T findApplicationModule(Class<? extends T> clientInterface) {
        BindingContext context = BindingContext.getCurrent();
        DCDataControl dataControl = context.findDataControl(clientInterface.getSimpleName() + "DataControl");
        return (T)dataControl.getApplicationModule();

  • Problem refactor classes residing in different development components?

    Hi!
    In dc1 defined class "ClassExample" added to public part.
    When in dc2 apply refactoring for "ClassExample" to "ClassExampleNew" issue error message - Method to be renamed is binary.
    Support nwds refactoring classes defined in different dc?
    Wbr, Ivan.

    Hi Pooja,
    thank you very much for your response. But - the problem lies in custom portal development component. When I want to use some custom portal service in my web dynpro, I should write into sharing reference "PORTAL:vendor.com/MyAmazingService". MyAmazing service is name of development domponent (PAR type) deployed on portal before.
    No problem here - problem begins in developing this  custom portal service as development component. When I want to build my portal service as DC, there is problem of used libraries. It's not the same as classpath in NWDS (it would be nice if it will be connected, but it isn't). The classpath for DC build is generated from "used DC's" and that's the problem - how to add KM or RF classes as "used DC"? Where can I found them?
    I'm asking for correct design and component architecture - maybe my current attitude is wrong. Every example and tutorial works only with "create new project by this way..." "your first sample..." but some turorial for component architecture, making some reusable applications etc... I didn't found any.
    This helped me a little bit, but I want more:

  • Refactoring Behavior Problem?

    I have created 2 applications which are deployed as ADF Jar Libraries. Inside these apps are fragment taskflows which I am using in a master application.
    When I run the master app, ADF complains that there are 2 references to "view/DataBindings.cpx" so I changed the package name of one application using REFACTOR-RENAME. When I did this, the name changed in the project but it was still giving me the same error.
    When I looked at the project structure, the new package directory and files are there but the old package directory and files were STILL there. Is this normal behavior for the refactor function ?
    Thanks,
    Mark

    Hi,
    refactoring changes the structure of the sources, but not the compiled content. If you choose Build --> Clean All from the JDeveloper menu and then refactor the sources, does it then reproduce as well ?

  • Refactor - Renaming Problem Auto Code Generation

    After renaming the java source files (backing beans) to upper case letters (ex. from console.java to Console.java),
    JSC is not able to instantiate this class anymore, because the managed-bean.xml is altered automatically.
    The next problem is the jsp-file. JSC produces some useless code which points to the new (by JSC) created managed beans (old ones still exist)
    example (jsp):
    </ui:body>
    </ui:html>
    </ui:page>
    </f:view>
    <ui:body binding="#{request$console.body1}" id="body1"/>
    (managed-beans.xml)
    <managed-bean>
    <managed-bean-name>request$console</managed-bean-name>
    Im not able to delete this generated code, because after saving and reloading the jsp-file the inserted code is still there.
    In the projects view my java source files are shown in small letters, even if the files are in upper case on the file system (explorer).
    Im using Studio Creator 2 Update 1 (Build 060915)
    The project can only be deployed (exporting *.war in JSC) and executed when i change the file attributes to read-only after editing them with a standard text editor.
    Any suggestions?

  • Problem while refactoring

    Hi experts,
    I've got a scenario where my OAF project is built for application POS i.e isupplier portal and now i get to know that it should've been PO instead of POS.
    OMG !! Now what to do ? Shall i rebuild my whole project again? Hell no !!
    Then i came across a term "refactor" and bravely enough did move all the EO/VO/AM/AO/VL from my (oracle.apps.pos) to (oracle.apps.po).
    But how to refactor the PG/RN files?
    PS: I've just copied the PG/RN xml files from POS package to PO package and made the necessary changes (AM definition and CO class definitions) in the layouts.
    When i run the pages .. an unexpected error occurs ..

    Hi,
    If after refactoring, you are getting error then you need to perform this:
    You have to create the package directory structure manually in the file system, then move all the renamed EOs, VOs...and all the files to appropriate directories.
    After you do this, you need to open each file (in some text editor) and change the package structure there.

  • ArrayList() problems

    Hi!
    I need a little help getting an ArrayList to work. I am refactoring some of the classes in one of the O'Reilly books for a class assignment. I believe that I cannot get my ArrayList to add elements into itself. I'm not quite sure what I'm doing wrong. I'll post the code below. The problem arises in the last part of the code (at least I think it does) where i can't get my variable "size" (see the "for loop" below) to be resolved. I have tried initializing the variable at the beginning of the entire class in which case I can get the file to compile to a class. But when I run the class, I still get an ArrayOutOfBounds exception letting me know that my array is still initialized to 1 when i believe that and my index is a larger number (the number I input into the console). the message I get from the command line is:
    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
    Error:

    at MyFactorial.computeFactorialCacheB(MyFactorial.java:115) // this would be the second line of the "for" loop
    at MyFactorial.main(MyFactorial.java:134)
    Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
    Here is my code
         public static synchronized BigInteger computeFactorialCacheB(String s) {
         private static int size;
    ArrayList table = new ArrayList();
              table.add(BigInteger.valueOf(1));
              int x = 0;
              try {
                   x = Integer.parseInt(s);
              catch (NumberFormatException e) {
                   System.out.println("the number you enter must be an integer");
              if (x<0) {
                   throw new IllegalArgumentException("x must not be a negative number");
              else {
                   for(int size = table.size(); size <= x; size++);{
                        BigInteger lastfact = (BigInteger)table.get(size-1);
                        BigInteger nextfact = lastfact.multiply(BigInteger.valueOf(size));
                        table.add(nextfact);
              return (BigInteger) table.get(size-1);
         }

    Thanks for your reply.
    As I said in my original posting, I am refactoring code from one of the O'Reilly books for an assignment. So no, this isn't all my code, just some of it (copyright is duly noted in my assignment).
    The semicolon was a great cach (thanks!) I truly didn't see it. The issue of the "size" variable is what I am trying to solve. When I originally entered the code int my IDE (eclipse) the first declaration of int size inside the for loop was OK but subsequent references to it (still in the for loop) wouldn't resolve.
         for(int size = table.size(); size <= x; size++){
               BigInteger lastfact = (BigInteger)table.get(size-1);
               BigInteger nextfact = lastfact.multiply(BigInteger.valueOf(size));
                    table.add(nextfact);Hence the experimentation with the "size" variable. The use of the ArrayList was one of the parameters of the assignment. I see what you mean by creating a new list each time. The purpose of the method is to return a factorial (n!) using a BigInteger. This loop is pretty much just as it came out of O'rilley. It seems to work fine in their rendition (I guess that's why they get to write books).
    Tanks so much for your help. I'll refactor again and repost (probably tomorrow).
     regards!

  • Problems creating a new project

    I just installed Creator 2.1 on a Fedora Core 4 workstation. It installed with no problems, but when I go to create a new project the wizard hangs after pressing finish. The only thing that is created is WebApplication1/nbproject/project.xml. The following is what was placed in the log.

    OK, I have figured it out. When I initally installed Creator I did not pay attention to what the dialogs said. I just pushed the "Finish" button when it came up. After re-installing as root and my user I realized thet the last dialog said "Application Server could not be installed correctly. The following RPM packages need to be installed: compat-libstdc++, compat-libstdc++-devel"
    I had compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-47installed.
    I installed compat-libstdc++-296-2.96-132.
    Afterwards I installed Creator under "root" without an error, and I was able to create a new project.
    I hope this help some others. I saw several posts concerning Fedora.
