Reference pages and masterpages!

So I figured out how to add a left master page, yet when it appears, I do not see that it is offset from the right master page. How do you make them offset. Also, I am adding the same heading at the top of the page (landscape page) and I need to apply both left and right master pages to the body pages. I have tried doing this, but it never appears. If someone knows what I am doing wrong please let me know. I have heard about the mapping feature in the reference page, but I am not that knowledgable of FM to understand what type in there.

You lost me with building blocks. Are you sure it's not just a matter of
viewing facing pages? If you've set up double-sided pages, you can view
them as facing pages or vertically (or horizontally), but they're still
double-sided regardless of the way you view them. If you want uneven
mirrored margins (like a bigger margin inside than outside), you just
need to position the frames on the master page where you want them. Best
to CTRL-click the frame on the master page and go to Graphics > Object
Properties and move/resize the frame by setting the numbers exactly.

The text (including tables) is in a frame that comes from the master
page. Just put the frame where you want it. If you want to move the
table *inside* the frame, you can adjust the Space Above the table in
Table Designer, but Space Above only affects the space above the
beginning of the table (not space around the table on subsequent pages).

A table header row is different from a page header. Previously, I
explained how to put a page header frame on your master page. If you
want a table header, Table > Add Rows or Columns > Add 1 Row To Heading.
Whatever you put in a header or footer row repeats on every page.

  • Moving pages and masterpages

    hello,
    can somebody help please? I have two documents that have same master pages. when i copy (drag and drop) two pages from one file into the other i get a master page copy over the page that i have copied. what is going on???
    many thanks!

    A lot depends on the type of project. In ID my rule of thumb is if I need to modify an master page object in order to use it, it probably should not be on the master page. Remember, you don't need a pre-existing frame to place text or images in ID the way you do in Quark. Just use File > Place..., choose the content you want to place, and click, or click and drag, the loaded cursor where you want it. Click and drag will draw a frame to that shape. In the case of an image, since CS3 the frame will be proportional to the image and the image will be scaled to fit.
    What happens when you click and release depends on what is loaded into the cursor (which is called the Place Gun, but almost nobody uses the term). For images, click and release places the image at 100% with the top left corner where you click. For text, if you click inside the margins of the page ID will draw a frame from the y-coordinate where you click down to the bottom margin guide, and as wide as the current column guides surround the spot where you click. If you click outside the margins, ID will draw the frame where you click, but will make it the full height and width of a column between the margin guides.
    If you have more text to place than will fit into the first frame, holding Shift when you click will add frames and pages as required to place the entire story, and any added frames will fill columns from top to bottom. What this means is that if you set your margins and column guides the size you ant your text blocks, you don't need master text frames at all except for text that won't get edited, like header and footer, or for special cases like two-language documents where you want parallel text flows side by side, or magazine-type layouts that use stock layouts with pre-positioned graphic frames and text that doesn't fill columns (but maybe not even then since text wrap can be used to control how the text flows around the graphics, though you might want to include frames for captions).
    If you post some screen shots of the layout, we can offer more concrete suggestions.

  • My master pages have disappeared from the View menu in Frame Maker and I can't get to them. View does show body pages and reference pages.

    Master pages went missing from my FrameMaker 12 setup about 4 days ago. I can see body and references pages. I have tried reinstalling. The master pages are missing from all of my FrameMaker documents, absolutely all of them. I have done two new installations of FM 12, no fix.

    Does the old shortcut still work? [Esc, v, M plus its close kin Esc, v, R for Reference pages and Esc, v, B for Body pages – all case-sensitive]
    Also, does "missing" mean you select View master pages and get a blank screen? while double-checking the view shortcuts, I discovered this can be replicated by turning off borders [Esc, v, b] in Master page view … if you happen to be using a Master page layout with no header or footer. But I have also, occasionally, ended up with blank master pages even when they should have had content. It's a mystery.

  • Is there a way to convert FM graphics (on a reference page) to anchored frames?

    Hello -
    I'm using Technical Communication Suite 3 (FrameMaker 10 and RoboHelp 9) and I can't figure out how to take "standard" caution/warning symbols (that currently appear in graphic frames on a FM reference page) and put them in anchored frames so that they will automatically appear when I link a FM book to RH.
    Does anyone have an idea of how to do that?
    Thanks in advance for your help.
    --Ed

    Hi Ed.
    I don't believe this can be done with an unanchored frame. I think you'd have to have the graphic in an anchored frame that you can copy from the reference page and paste into your body page.

  • References pages, items removed

    Hi,
    I have started at a new job and have been experiencing issues with my index template here. After looking at all the template chapter files I noticed that any references to Table of Contents specifications, Index specifications and the HTML mapping table do not exist.
    I did a test and put my index specs back onto the Chapter reference page and rebuilt my book and now the index works correctly.
    Why would anyone delete this stuff off of the reference pages for the Chapter?  I have never worked with any templates that has this information removed, including the ones that come with FrameMaker.
    Using FM Version 8 right now.
    Thanks in advance!

    I don't know how or who created the templates, there is no backup information for them.  But by putting my index specs (as shown here) back on the reference page for the Chapter allows all of my index markers to appear.   If I don't do this, I get some index hits with just a page number.  I removed the old index, removed all the old markers and started fresh, and the problem still appeared, until I did this.

  • FM TOC reference page generation

    Is there a way to force FM to use a document's modified TOC reference page instead of it generating a second one when creating a separate TOC file?

    Each of these lines is formatted with its own Paragraph Tag (ie. Pgblk()TOC, Task()TOC, etc) which are Tahoma, 10pt.
    When I generate a standalone TOC clicking [Special] >Table of Contents... > [Yes] (Do you want to creat a standalone TOC for this doc?), the new standalone TOC will not look like I expect and in the reference pages and I will have a second TOC ref page named "TOC1" with the following code:
    <$elemtextonly> <$pagenum>
    openXmlElementId <$relfilename>:<$UniqueXmlElementId> <$RelativeXmlElementId>
    openObjectId <$relfilename>:<$ObjectType> <$ObjectId>
    <$elemtextonly> <$pagenum>
    <$elemtextonly> <$pagenum>
    <$elemtextonly> <$pagenum>
    <$elemtextonly> <$pagenum>
    Each of these lines are in default Times New Roman font, 12pt and seems to be what FM uses to generate the TOC instead of my modified reference page from the original doc.
    I remember having this happen a few years ago, probably in FrameMaker 7.x, perhaps 6.x. I can't remember ever finding its cause, or a remedy that avoids it. A quick Google search today didn't reveal the secret fix, though, I didn't dig deep into the results.
    My solution was to import the TOC formats into the TOC<#> from either the document set's TOC template, or the main TOC document itself. This should fix the page layouts and text properties, but will not change the page references, etc., so the reformatted TOC should be what you expect.
    An alternate approach is to create a copy of the TOC template in the directory where the chapter TOC will be created, name and save it to the TOC<#> that you anticipate will be generated. IIRC, generating the chapter TOC will fill the anticipated TOC with correct information formatted correctly.
    Another option is to create a container TOC document with the correct formatting and import the generated TOC into it - this depends on having a version of FrameMaker that can import FM files.

  • Using reference pages for document revision tracking

    I'm hearing a goofy idea at work about using Frame 7 reference pages for revision tracking on a document. I think the idea is to create a reference page and put a revision tracking table on that page.
    My impression is that reference pages aren't for users to muck with very much. Template updates could affect them, future Frame upgrades could affect them, etc.
    Is anyone else out there doing something similar and does it work?

    I can see a problem with your approach if you import formats from one file to many files. You can easily overwrite the revision information.
    Say you make a reference page called "REVS" for all your book chapters and begin populating the revisions. At some point in time, somebody imports the formats (including reference pages) from chapter 3 to all the other files in the book. All the reference pages named "REVS" will be overwritten with the chapter 3 revision information.
    A way ensure against overwriting would be to give a unique name to each file's revision page (REVSch1, REVSch2, etc.); however, you may end up with multiple, unused, outdated reference pages in each file. They won't cause any harm (except maybe causing confusion when updating the rev info), but may bloat your file size.

  • Importing note and warning images (assigned via reference pages)

    Hi all,
    I am importing a document that contains warning and note images that are assigned to certein paragraph styles via the reference pages. Naturally these do not convert using the standard settings.
    My first attempt was to assign numbering settings to these paragraphs before importing and to use the 'convert to HTML list' setting. Then I tried to assign image styles to the generated lists in the CSS using  list-style: url("image_for_warning.jpg");
    If I assing this to the paragraph styles (p.something) then it works in preview, but most browsers dont support it.
    The problem: Robohelp generates an awfull mess when converting lists to HTML.
    When I use an ordered numbering setting in FM, then Robohelp creates this:
    <ol >
      <li style="1"><p class="warning">..
    When I use an unordered numbering setting in FM (using characters as bullets), Robohelp generates this:
    <ul type="disc">
      <li><p class="warning">..
    I never get a clean HTML list with a specific style assigned to the UL. Any ideas to this?
    Robert

    Hi Robert,
    I agree with you that RH doesn't provide an easy way to format the lists as you like, but it doesn't have much to do with FrameMaker.
    The HTML that you're creating is good, it's the CSS that needs to be tweaked. I had the privelege of access to a true CSS expert at a previous job; he got my lists to work properly.
    I realized 2 things while watching him solve the problem:
    Because of browser and version issues, CSS is a real headache. He would sometimes use 3 or 4 different CSS options for the same formatting value, and most of this was simply arcane knowledge of allowable CSS attributes and allowable CSS values.
    Money spent to address these issues is well-spent
    It would be nice if Adobe were able to develop this feature for HTML lists within Robohelp, but from what I've seen, their RH Lists option is the closest you can expect to see.

  • How to change the master page and theme dynamically in sharepoint2013 anonymous site

    hi

    Srinivas

    Hi Srinivas,
    According to your description, my understanding is that you want to change the master page and theme dynamically based on the anonymous users or authenticated users.
    Per my knowledge, there is not an OOB way to change the master page and theme dynamically.
    SharePoint is based on Asp.net, as we know Asp.Net request processing is based on pipeline model, so we can delevlop a custom HttpModule to dynamic change the master page based on current logon user profile(using SP Object Model to get).
    Another solution could be to use the SecurityTrimmed control that injects the CSS depending on global user permissions, more information, please refer to
    it.

  • How do I use the Notation Declaration table on the Reference Pages in FM10 Win 7?

    I can find no documentation to explain the Notation Declaration table that exists on the reference pages.
    My DTDs (both XML and SGML) call for some specific notations to be used with certain graphic formats. For example, tiff files use the notation "TIF" and cgm files use the notation "CGM-BINARY".  I am not using DITA or S1000D.
    When round-tripping sgml and/or xml to/from FrameMaker I would like to get the graphic entity declarations to use notations that are alloted for in the DTD. I would like to avoid having additional notation statements in the sgml and/or xml.
    I am using FrameMaker 10 on a Windows 7, 64-bit system.
    Is this "Notation Declaration" table the correct place to look? Are there alternative methods to accomplish the notation assignment?
    Thanks,

  • ADOBE: How to print a table only on uneven pages and a text on the back?

    Hi, I am looking for a clear document on how to use pagination and the Odd and Even pages.
    We need to print a table over several pages, but the table should only appear on Odd pages. The even pages should be skipped. On the even (back) pages we need to print "Terms and Conditions". Is that possible? Can it be done without scripting?
    We are using ADOBE version 8.1
    In the file properties, double sided is switched on, and version set to 8.1 and higher.
    I created two Master pages, a FrontPage with ContentArea1and a BackPage with ContentArea2.
    FrontPage is used for uneven pages, BackPage is used for the even pages. The masterpages are printed correctly (alternating properly).
    One page was created for the table, totals etc.:
    ITEMS: contains item data (table with header and footer). Place is "On Odd Page". After "Goto page BackPage", so there is always one page with the text. And if the table needs to be paginated it goes to BackPage with overflow leader "Conditions".
    What should happen is that on the front pages the item table is printed. If there are too many lines then it should continue on page number 3 then 5 etc. All the even pages should display text only.
    What actually happens is that the item table also gets printed in the content area for the Condition text...
    The best I could achieve is to decrease the contenta area of the back page. To force pagination. But still it prints one table record in the (very small) content area of the back page before paginating to the next page (front page again). If it only would not do that, it would be fine.
    Cheers,
    Edwin.

    Fixed it... After a lot of creating, deleting, playing around with pagination and the inevitable cursing...
    I have created 5 pages:
    1. FirstPage
         - Odd/Even: Odd (Front) Pages
         - Placement: First page (In page set)
    2. FrontPage (For Odd pages)
         - Odd/Even: Odd/Front Pages
         - Placement: Rest of Pages
    3. BackPage (For Even pages)
         - Odd/Even: Even (Back) Pages
         - Placement: Rest of Pages
    4. LastPage
         - Odd/Even: No Odd/Even Restrictions
         - Placement: Last page (In page set)
    5. DummyPage
         - Odd/Even: Blank pages
    The 'Terms and conditions' are located on the BackPage and LastPage (as a text).
    The table that is printed is (of course) located on a normal page (flowed subform).
    Pagination tab: Placement = Following previous, and After = "Continue filling parent". No overflow... Basically, it's all default.
    The table lines will now start on the first page and if there are more lines than can be printed on this page, it will continue in the next content area. That will be on the FrontPage.
    The trick is that each master page must have a content area (mandatory). Except for Blank pages, but these cannot be used... Blank pages would only be used once, after the first page.
    What I discovered is that you can drag a content area away from the Master page and attach it to a different master page.
    Logically, if there is no content area on a page, then data cannot be printed there. So, I created a Dummypage. On this page I dumped the content areas from the LastPage and the BackPage. As a result, content cannot be printed anymore on the back of pages. Only the standard text (a text field) is printed there. When the data from the table is overflowing, it will automatically overflow from the FirstPage to the next content area. Which is located on the FrontPages only.
    The DummyPage is NOT used anywhere.
    The result is that the records can only be printed on the content areas that exist on the First and Front pages. The back pages are now skipped.
    Duplex printing is now working correctly, and the text is printed on the back of all the pages.
    Cheers,
    Edwin.

  • How to get inputted value in a RTE field on custom page and submit by REST call in 'Sharepoint hosted app'.

    Hi I am facing the three questions below.
    1. How to use default RTE in custom page in Sharepoint hosted app.
     I saw the article of Rich text Editor (ribbon based) in a webpart in SharePoint 2013 and tried it. But it did not work well. I guess it needs code-behind setting, however sharepoint hosted app does not support code-behind.
    Does anybody know how to do this?
    2. In above case, I placed the below code on custom page and tried to get the field's value when submit button was clicked.

    Is it possible to get the RTE value? If yes, please let me know how to do this.
    3. I need to submit the RTE value using REST call.
    In this
    article in MSDN, the item creation sample treats single line text field. Does anybody know the sample for RTE?

    Hi,
    According to your description, you might want to use Rich Text Editor control in your SharePoint hosted app.
    First of all, I would suggest you post one question in one thread to make it easier to be discussed, which would also help you get a quick solution.
    Though we can add this control into a SharePoint hosted app, however, as we can’t add code behind for it, plus with the potential compatibility issues in different
    browsers, I would suggest you use other JavaScript Rich Text Editor plugins instead.
    Two JavaScript Rich Text Editor plugins for your reference:
    http://quilljs.com/
    http://nicedit.com/
    If you want to submit the value of Rich Text Editor control to a SharePoint list using REST call, since the content in the Multiple Line of Text column is wrapped
    with nested HTML tags, the similar requirement would also be applied to the content to be submitted.
    Here is a code snippet about how to update a Multiple Line of Text column for your reference:
    updateListItem(_spPageContextInfo.webAbsoluteUrl, "List018", 1);
    function updateListItem(siteUrl, listName, itemId)
    var itemType = GetItemTypeForListName(listName);
    var item = {
    "__metadata": { "type": itemType },
    "MultiTextEnhanced": "<div><a href='http://bing.com/'>Bing</a><br></p></div>",
    "Title": "123"
    $.ajax({
    url: siteUrl + "/_api/web/lists/getbytitle('" + listName + "')/items(" + itemId + ")",
    method: "GET",
    headers: { "Accept": "application/json; odata=verbose" },
    success: function (data) {
    console.log(data);
    $.ajax({
    url: data.d.__metadata.uri,
    type: "POST",
    contentType: "application/json;odata=verbose",
    data: JSON.stringify(item),
    headers: {
    "Accept": "application/json;odata=verbose",
    "X-RequestDigest": $("#__REQUESTDIGEST").val(),
    "X-HTTP-Method": "MERGE",
    "If-Match": data.d.__metadata.etag
    success: function (data) {
    console.log(data);
    error: function (data) {
    console.log(data);
    error: function (data) {
    console.log(data);
    // Getting the item type for the list
    function GetItemTypeForListName(name)
    return"SP.Data." + name.charAt(0).toUpperCase() + name.slice(1) + "ListItem";

  • How to read the information in the reference page

    <$paratext>.....<$chapnum>-<$pagenum>
    <$paratext>.....<$chapnum>-<$pagenum>
    <$paratext>.....<$chapnum>-<$pagenum>"
    The above is the information in the "TOC" reference page.
    I don't understand the "Front" part. The paragraph tag of this part is H1_FrontCoverTOC. There is one chapter named Front Cover in my book file, but there is no paragraph tag named H1_FrontCoverTOC in any of the files in the book.

    Except for the openObjectId line, all entries correspond to
    a paragraph tag that at some time has been specified to be
    included when the TOC is generated. An entry with the tag
    "ChapterTOC" describes how to format the TOC for the
    paragraph tag "Chapter". That is, FM adds "TOC" at the end
    of the tagname in the TOC to separate it from the tagname
    used in the chapter files.
    The TOC reference page may very well contain entries for
    tags that no longer are used in the files. As far as I know,
    FM doesn't delete entries on this page, it just adds new
    ones. So, my guess is that some of your files at some time
    has contained tags named "H1_FrontCover" (without "TOC").
    If they don't any longer, and "H1_FrontCover" is not
    included in the list of tags to generate the TOC for, you
    can safely delete that entry.
    Regarding "Front", that seems to be a manually added text
    that will not serve any purpose. Is it normal text?
    Only "building blocks" named "<$something>" will be
    interpreted by FM and replaced by whatever the "something"
    code stands for (see the manual).
