Reference to the main Applet

Hi,
how can I give another applet a reference to me at a function call.
The "this" variable only gives a reference to the sending component, but I want to give a function a reference to "Applet" itself, so that the other applet can call functions from "me" like "firstapp.setvalue(1)".
Thanks a lot

  • Action reference in the MAIN view for other Views

    Hi Experts,
    I have created a view(MAIN) that contains SUBMIT button and also included four other views(Using ViewContainerUIElement) in the MAIN view itslef. So am calling the respective view based on some certain condition from MAIN view.
    Now my problem is, am using  check_mandatory_attr_on_view() method which is being called on SUBMIT action from MAIN view of WDDOBEFOREACTION. But it is not checking Required Fields from other views. It checks the Required Fields only in the MAIN view.
    I know that I want to call the reference of other views in MAIN view, but how can I do it?
    Please help me, as how I can check the Required fields on action of SUBMIT button in MAIN view for other views.
    BR,
    RAM.

    Hi,
    Though am in MAIN view, If i clicks the submit button it checks the Required fields on both MAIN and Sub views, where still I have not called the Sub view.
    If you didn't call the sub view, the WDDOINIT method of your sub view wouldn't have been triggered and so the sub view reference is not set in the component controller, isn't it.?
    OR you are calling sub view separately in the initial state and get the reference and then in your MAIN view calling the sub view based on condition in the View Container UI..?
    If so, create an attribute in your Main view (say sub_view_name of type string) and then use the below code to get the current sub view name and then pass the corresponding sub view reference:
    DATA:lr_view_controller    type ref to        IF_WD_VIEW_CONTROLLER,
           lr_main_view_usage  type ref to        IF_WD_RR_VIEW_USAGE.
           lr_vc_assignment      type ref to        IF_WD_RR_VIEW_CNT_ASSIGNMENT.
           lr_view_usage           type ref to        IF_WD_RR_VIEW_USAGE.
           lr_t_views                 type                WDRR_VCA_OBJECTS.
           lr_s_view                  like line of        lr_t_views.
           lr_view                     type ref to        if_wd_rr_view.
          lr_view_controller = wd_this->wd_get_api( ).
        lr_main_view_usage = lr_view_controller->GET_VIEW_USAGE( ).
       lr_t_views  = lr_main_view_usage->GET_VIEW_CNT_ASSIGNMENTS( ). "This will return all the View Container assignments.
    * Now loop over all the View containers and get the reference of embedding view.
       loop at lr_t_views  into lr_s_view .
          lr_vc_assignment = lr_s_view-VIEW_CNT_ASSIGNMENT.
          lr_view_usage  = lr_vc_assignment->GET_DEFAULT_VIEW_USAGE( ). " This will return view usage reference
          lr_view = lr_view_usage->get_view( ). " This will have the meta info of view
          wd_this->sub_view_name = lr_view->get_name( ).
       endloop.
    Now in onAction submit,
    CL_WD_DYNAMIC_TOOL=>CHECK_MANDATORY_ATTR_ON_VIEW(
                                  EXPORTING
                                   view_controller =  lr_view_controller " MAin view reference
    case wd_this->sub_view_name.
    when 'SUB_VIEW1'.
    CL_WD_DYNAMIC_TOOL=>CHECK_MANDATORY_ATTR_ON_VIEW(
                                  EXPORTING
                                   view_controller = wd_comp_controller->gr_emb_view1.
    when 'SUB_VIEW2'.
    CL_WD_DYNAMIC_TOOL=>CHECK_MANDATORY_ATTR_ON_VIEW(
                                  EXPORTING
                                   view_controller = wd_comp_controller->gr_emb_view2.
    Or, alternatively; create all the nodes(of sub views) in component controller, then map all those to MAIN view, then read the required node attributes and validate manually.
    hope this helps u,

  • How do you use a main applet to call other child applets?

    Hello Everyone!
    I have created three separate applets that animate different colored walkers that walk across the web page with each applet doing what I need them to do. I need to create a main applet that displays a component that allows the user to select how many walkers(1-3) they would like to see displayed walking across the screen. The main applet should call only one walker applet if 1 is selected, call two applets if 2 is selected, or call all three applets if 3 is selected.
    My textbook has covered how to call other classes in an application but not a main applet calling other applets. I have gone through the tutorials but have not found anything related to what I need to do. Google didn't have any good ideas.
    Another possibility that would work would be to have one applet with each walker having its own method to be called based upon the selection. Then again, my textbook didn't cover calling methods within an applet.
    Any hints or suggestions would be greatly appreciated on these issue.
    Thanks.
    Unclewho

    Remember, an Applet is nothing more than a Panel (or JPanel for a JApplet) - basically an empty graphics container waiting for UI or graphics commands.
    You do not have a "main" applet as you do when you create an executable application which requires the 'main' method.
    The best thing to do, is simply do an HTTP Redirect to a page created with the desired number of "walkers". In your cause, the most you'd need is 3 walkers, so 4 pages - 1 redirect page, and then a page with 1 walker, a page with 2 walkers, and a page with 3 walkers.

  • Why can't I interrupt the main thread from a child thread with this code?

    I am trying to find an elegant way for a child thread (spawned from a main thread) to stop what its doing and tell the main thread something went wrong. I thought that if I invoke mainThread.interrupt() from the child thread by giving the child thread a reference to the main thread, that would do the trick. But it doesn't work all the time. I want to know why. Here's my code below:
    The main class:
    * IF YOU RUN THIS OFTEN ENOUGH, YOU'LL NOTICE THE "Child Please!" MESSAGE NOT SHOW AT SOME POINT. WHY?
    public class InterruptingParentFromChildThread
         public static void main( String args[] )
              Thread child = new Thread( new ChildThread( Thread.currentThread() ) );
              child.start();
              try
                   child.join();
              catch( InterruptedException e )
    // THE LINE BELOW DOESN'T GET PRINTED EVERY SINGLE TIME ALTHOUGH IT WORKS MOST TIMES, WHY?
                   System.out.println( "Child please!" );
              System.out.println( "ALL DONE!" );
    The class for the child thread:
    public class ChildThread implements Runnable
         Thread mParent;
         public ChildThread( Thread inParent )
              mParent = inParent;
         public void run()
              System.out.println( "In child thread." );
              System.out.println( "Let's interrupt the parent thread now." );
              // THE COMMENTED OUT LINE BELOW, IF UNCOMMENTED, DOESN'T INVOKE InterruptedException THAT CAN BE CAUGHT IN THE MAIN CLASS' CATCH BLOCK, WHY?
              //Thread.currentThread().interrupt();
              // THIS LINE BELOW ONLY WORKS SOMETIMES, WHY?
              mParent.interrupt();
    }

    EJP wrote:
    I'm not convinced about that. The wording in join() suggests that, but the wording in interrupt() definitely does not.Thread.join() doesn't really provide much in the way of details, but Object.wait() does:
    "throws InterruptedException - if any thread interrupted the current thread +before+ or while the current thread was waiting for a notification. The interrupted status of the current thread is cleared when this exception is thrown."
    every jdk method i've used which throws InterruptedException will always throw if entered while a thread is currently interrupted. admitted, i rarely use Thread.join(), so it's possible that method could be different. however, that makes the thread interruption far less useful if it's required to hit the thread while it's already paused.
    a simple test with Thread.sleep() confirms my expected behavior (sleep will throw):
    Thread.currentThread().interrupt();
    Thread.sleep(1000L);

  • How to update a string value located on the main VI

    Hello
    I would like, from a subVI, to update a string value located in the main VI (using References). I was trying to find examples on NI web page but it´s impossible to download them (for more than one month : Error, File Not Found), do everyone has got the same problem?
    Thanks for your answer
    Nicolas

    Hi,
    this is from LV help file:
    Complete the following steps to create a subVI that includes a control reference directly from a Property Node.
    1.On the block diagram, right-click the front panel object terminal for which you want a control reference and select Create»Property Node from the shortcut menu to create a Property Node implicitly linked to the object. You can have multiple Property Nodes for multiple front panel objects.
    2.Use the Positioning tool to select the new Property Node and select Edit»Create SubVI from menu. LabVIEW automatically creates a control reference to the control on the block diagram of the main VI, creates a subVI that contains a control refnum wired to a Property Node, and wires the control reference on the main VI to the
    control refnum input terminal of the new subVI.
    Note: Select several Property Nodes at once to create a subVI with multiple control refnums and Property Nodes.
    3.Double-click the subVI to open it. Modify the Property Node and other elements of the subVI as you do in any other VI.
    4. If you want to change values of control then select "Value" property in Property node.
    I've attached the examples.
    Good luck.

  • How to handle event from subVI in the main VI?

    Hello,
    I'm doing some measurement. During the measurement I want the user to see some activity dialog - that's easy to do. Before the measurement starts I dynamically run VI (EX_Progress.vi) that shows some activity and then I do the measurement (in my example simulated by random number generation) . After the measurement is done (or error occurs) I can dynamically abort the activity indicator. But on the other hand I want to give to the user chance to abort the measurement manually via the activity dialog by STOP button. There are some ways how to do it via global variable and check every iteration in the main VI it's state but isn't there some better way? Would be nice to run event in the main VI when the user pushes the STOP button in the Progress VI. Is it possible to achieve this using register events? I tried but don't really now how I'm not familiar with this technique.
    Thanks in advance

    OK, here's an example using User Events. It doesn't directly have the main VI listen for the Button press event in the subVI. Instead, it has the main VI listen for a custom User Event that the subVI fires every time there's a button press. You could theoretically directly listen to the button press directly from the Main VI, but you would have to somehow get that control's reference to the main VI. That would require storing a copy of it in a global or some such method. This method I will show here is very common and is definitely worth learning.
    For more info on User Events, refer to the LabVIEW help. You can learn more by clicking any of the User Event VIs and selecting Help from the shortcut menu.
    (I didn't set the subVIs front panel to open automatically, so you'll have to do that yourself to see anything from this demo...)

  • How to get the loop sequence time (i) out of the while loop in the sub-vi to the main vi?

    I tried to search for the answer but no much luck.  My situation is that I used a sub-vi containing a while loop in my main vi. Now I need to see the while loop sequence number (i) from that sub-vi in my main vi.  In the sub-vi I have the indicator to show this loop sequence flawlessly, but that's inside the loop itself.  If I use this indicator as a terminal in the sub-vi, I can only see the last sequence number in the main vi after the loop finished its execution.
    Is there a way to accomplish this? Thanks.

    Hi nobody,
    well easiest (but error prone) way is to use globals to move data from subvi to main vi. You can also give the reference of the main vi indicator to the subvi to write to a "value" property node. You can also use queues, and there are other techniques too

    Hi,
    The problem is that the executable closes the first window, because there is
    no reference open to its front panel. A solution might be to pass the
    reference of the main VI to the sub VI.
    You can also use FP.state iso FP.open. This alows you to hide the front
    panel, without automatically closing the vi. I'd prefer this over the first
    solution.

    Expanding and clarifying what BJD said;
    After you create the temporary sub-VI that BJD mentioned, open its front panel and copy the reference control that LV created when it created the sub-VI.
    This reference control will be correct class etc that you need. Use the control to replace the original control that you were attempting to wire up.
    The technique of "create sub-VI...copy" always works for me.
    There is one more thing that you should watch out for.
    The mechanical action of the boolean can not be set for latch action when attempting to read the value using a value property node.

  • How do you reference the main timeline of swf1 from swf2 when swf2 is loaded into swf1?

    on this link          http://kb2.adobe.com/community/publishing/918/cpsid_91887.html
    I found this script, but I can not use it can anyone help me
    // create a variable to reference swf1's main timeline
    var swf1Main_mc:MovieClip;  // this assumes that swf1 is a movieclip.
    // create your listener to ensure this loaded swf has been added to the display list and can therefore obtain a
    // reference to its main timeline (which is always the main timeline of the loading swf).
    this.addEventListener(Event.ADDED_TO_STAGE, initF);
    function initF(e:Event):void{
        swf1Main_mc = MovieClip(this.root);

    You don't make it clear what event finish is for. But let's assume that your MC is being loaded from the clip that you're referring to as root. In the main Document Class of that swf, you'd have
    protected var customSwf:CustomSwf;//customSwf is the Class that defines your functionInSwf1protected function someFunction():void {
         var loader:Loader = new loader();
         loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE onLoaderLoaded);
         //rest of your loader loading code here
    protected function onLoaderLoaded(e:Event):void {
          //add to display list (you already know how to do, so I'm not writing the code)
         EventDispatcher(e.target).removeEventListener(Event.Complete, onLoaderLoaded);
         //if you had a legitimate need for path (which you don't) in mcExternal, you'd set it like this:
         this.mcExternal.path = LoaderInfo(e.target).content as MovieClip;
          //this is what you actually need to care about to do this correctly
          customSwf = LoaderInfo(e.target).content as CustomSwf;
    Now, the Class that you apply to the library symbol you're using for mcExternal should have code similar to this:
    protected function fEvent(e:Event):void {
         dispatchEvent(new Event('giveYourEventADescriptiveNameBasedOnWhatYoureReallyDoingHere', true));
    back in your main document Class:
    //should probably call from the constructor or somewhere early in the process
    protected function init():void {
         //use your real event name--your code isn't expressive enough I could guess a good name
         addEventListener('giveYourEventADescriptiveNameBasedOnWhatYoureReallyDoingHere', onEventHappened);
    protected function onEventHappened(e:Event):void {
         customSwf.customFunctioninSwf1();
         customSwf.changeVisualState();//let custom swf change alpha and change the frame #
    To the untrained I, this looks like about the same amount of code and slightly more trouble, but changing the design like this will make it much more tolerant of the changes that nearly all clients will want after you've built version 1. mcExternal's code doesn't have to change at all if swf1 changes, and your root Class already knows abotu swf1 anyway, since it's doing the loading, so having it work with it a little more doesn't hurt.
    Moving the change of visual state into your custom swf means that changes in that swf won't affect your main document Class, though you will probably have to recompile the main document unless you go to using an Interface (a topic for another day).

  • Indicating the reference document inside the main document.

    Hi,

    Hi Prasad,
    For this you have two options :
    1. Use the field Superior document , here you can assign a superior document to sub-document. Configure in DC10 to document
        type.
    2. Or use Environmrnt -> Document Structure -> Create  , here you can create a docuemnt structure means if user is displaying a docuement or using a document for various business activities then user has to refer a document which is assigned in document structure. When someone uses a document if it has a document structure means must refer the assigned document.
    Hope this will help.

  • How can I reference the main timeline on a swf once it was loaded into another?

    I have an swf with some custon animation functions using actionscript 3. I'm refering to the main timeline with Movieclip(root) and it works just fine.
    However, this swf is going to be loaded inside another (a custom player), and when that happends, everything stops working.
    I think it's because the Movieclip(root) is now referencing to the loader swf and not the loaded anymore, but I just can't find any information on how to fix that.

    This is basically what I´m doing here:
    I'm placing this code on frame 1, and calling the function textAnimate() whenever I need to insert some text.
    // This is a variable I created for tracking the timeline
    var base:MovieClip = MovieClip(root);
    function textAnimate(movieName:String, espera:Number):void {
              //var espera:Number = 1; //Waiting time
              var objeto:MovieClip = base[movieName]; //Variable to select the object
              var posFinal:Number = objeto.x; // Object position
              var posEnter:String = "-160"; // Animation start (relative)
              var posExit:String = "+160"; // Animation end (relative)
              // enter animation
              TweenMax.from(objeto, 1, {x:posEnter, alpha:0, blurFilter:{blurX:40}, ease:Back.easeOut});
              //call exitAnimation() after X seconds
              TweenMax.delayedCall(espera,exitAnimation);
              //exit animation
              function exitAnimation() {
                        TweenMax.to(objeto, 1, {x:posExit, alpha:0, blurFilter:{blurX:40}, ease:Back.easeIn});
    The swf works fine, but once it´s loaded into the player, nothing works anymore. Unfortunately, I don't have the code for the player, and can't change anything about it... :/

  • How can I display data gathered in a subVI in a graph of the main VI?

    I have written a largish application (~50 VI's) which acquires, analyzes, display and saves data from an instrument with a built-in DAQPad. My problem is that my block diagram is rather messy by now. I'm using an event structure in my main VI which reacts to buttons being pressed on the front panel. During data acquisition (one frame of the event structure), I need to do a lot of data processing, and I'm displaying both raw data and analyzed data on the front panel. I'm using a lot of subVI's for this, but I always need to get data out of the subVI's again to display it on the front panel, cluttering my block diagram. It would be much nicer if the subVI could update the main VI's graphs and indicators. I just found two examples with control references which show how a subVI can modify e.g. a 3Dgraph of the main VI, but I'm unable to use this with normal graphs and charts - I can't find a way to update the actual data in the plots (I can scale the plot or color it blue etc - but I really want to change the data it's displaying, not color it blue). Is there anything I'm missing? Is there example code for this kind of problem?
    best regards
    Martin

    im assuming that you want to update your graphs and indicators as you are performing your DAQ, otherwise, you can pass out your value/s when the DAQ completes.
    I have attached a very simple example of using a reference to update your front panel graph.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to develp a subreport in the same page of the main report and processed when is called

    SSRS 2012
    Hi guys,
    I am developing a report that includes a subreport.
    therefore The report is made up by 2 sections:
    1) Show a grid (several rows - may be 100 or more - and some columns). It represent high level info  (Each row represent a specific item)
    2) The user click on a Row/column (eg: Item1, to see details that must be shown as graph.
    Here the problem: Searching info about SSRS reporting for subreports, drilldown, nested report and so on, no ones accomplish the requirements for the following reasons:
    1) Subreports: NOT open in the same page. The user must <go back> to see detail for other items, such as Item 2....
    2) Nested and DrillDown: Process data as the Main report (they are hidden and displayed after user action). In my case this leads to performance problem, because: if the main report has 200 objects (it means 200 graphs processed and hidden at the same time
    for the main reports).
    3) DrillThrough and Subreport: The detail data are processed only when the user select the interested item in the main report. Here the problem: the report is shown externally.
    Please, it there any possibility to have a subreport (or anything else) to be executed in the same report as the main report and processed only when the user make action?
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Fasttrack2,
    According to your description, there is a main report with more than 100 rows of summary information, when users click the item of the row, the report need to jump to detail information shows as graph. The problem you are facing is that you are not sure
    subreport, drilldown or drillthrough report should be used? You hope to set display detail information in the main report and keep high performance of report.
    In Reporting Services, each subreport instance is a separate query execution and a separate report processing task. Subreports are recommended when there are just a few subreport instances. We should not use subreports inside a group when there are many
    group instances, instead, consider using drillthrough reports. Drilldown reports process all data even when the data is first hidden. In order to improve the performance of the report, we can split drilldown reports into parameterized drillthrough reports,
    because Drillthrough reports do not run until a user clicks the drillthrough link in the main report.
    In this case, we can consider using drilldown or drillthrough report. In drilldown report, when we click a plus or minus button to expand or collapse a section of a report, the detail data will be displayed in place. By using drillthrough report, when we
    click the link in the main report, the detail data will be displayed, we can come back to the main report by click return button in the drillthrough report.
