Referencing Cells in another table dynamically

I am preparing a SS with one table per month - I want to start each table with the ending data from the previous table. I can do this by settin a fixed size for the table. Is there a way to reference the last row of another table if I don't know how long that table is? I tried ROWS, but got an error with the form

On this point I disagree. I didn't asked Numbers to +update the value of all strings in all formulas just because they happened to match a table name that+ I renamed.
The given string IS the 5th operand in this formula and Numbers IS aware of the meaning of this operand.
=INDIRECT(ADDRESS(ROWS(2008_1 :: G),COLUMN(G),,,"2008_1"))
operand 1 is ROWS(2008_1 :: G)
operand 2 is COLUMN(G
operand 3 is empty
operand 4 is empty
operand 5 is "2008_1"
To be more explicit, this operand is not a simple string, it IS a table identifier.
If it contains "::" it IS a tableof_asheet identifier.
This may perfectly be parsed without clobbering other occurences of the same strings which don't have the same meaning.
The problem would be the same if, in formulas using a cell address defined by a concatenation (if I remember well you posted some of them) , editing a table name would not be reflected in the formula. I did not tested but I will do.

I am trying to build an application that requires formulas that need to reference cells in another table. Is this possible. If not is there a way to have rows in a table hidden so that only the summary totals are showing. So far it appears neither can be done.

We have had similar questions in the past, and no one has been able to reference one table from another.
To hide a row is not easy either. The best thing seems to be to set the colours of both text and borders to white (or anyhow the background of the page) or 0% opacity, even though the row still takes up space.

How do you sort a table that contains links to cells in another table?

This is something that I used to be able to do in Numbers but since 2 or 3 updates ago this doesn't seem to happen.
The problem I have is that I have a table that includes cells that are a sum of a number of cells from another table. When I try and sort by a column all the info in the cells change because, I imagine, the commands linking to the cells in the other table are offsetting by however many rows a particular row has moved.
This didn't used to happen; it used to hold on to the same data and links regardless of where the sort function moved a row to.
Had a look through the help pages but can't find anything about it. Has anyone found a way around this?

Hi mmatt,
There are several ways to create sort-safe formulas. Without knowing what you are doing in your table it is hard to give specific advice but in general INDEX(), OFFSET() and I think INDIRECT() are sort safe- ie they will ocntinue to point to the same cell wherever they are in your sort.
If you want specific advice you would need to provide more info.

How to make a popup list referencing to a another table cell?

I'm trying to build this:
In a table I get values for area, perimeters and volumes of floor walls ceiling etc.
On another table there's a description of the building process (like demolition of a wall or floor...)
and i would like to choose with a drop down menu one of the value already in the first Table. So to append a cost for unit and calculate the amount for that quantity.
I've not understood if this is possible throught VLOOKUP.

I want to reference a cell from another table and fill it with text

I I have several tables that update each other with data from the previous one. These tables are identical and follow each other by date. In each table is a cell (B1) where a persons name goes. the cell (B2) references another cell from a previous dated table. Some days, consecutively, no name is entered in to cell B1. I want cell B2 to always refer back to the most recent table with a name is cell B1. How can this be done?
I have written this formula (applied to cell B2 of this example) already: IF(Day 1::B1="","",IF(Day 1::B1≥"",Day 1::B1)) but it only references the previous days table and stops there. Some days nothing is inputed into cell B1 causing causing the following days table cell B2 to show "0".

The formulas provided above apply directly to the set of tables shown with them. In each of these tables, the target cell, containing the name of the driver for that day is cell B2 on the table for that day.
For Day 1, the driver is Huey, found in cell B2 of Table 1, and the cell reference to retrieve the information from that cell is =Table 1::B2
The formula in B2 of Aux uses INDIRECT to build that cell reference from the fixed text string "Table ", the calculated value ROW()-1, and the text string "::B2"
ROW() returns the number of the row in which the function sits. In B2, that's row 2, and ROW() returns 2. -1 subtracts 1 from that value, leaving 1. In B2, ROW()-1 returns 1.
The ampersand is the concatenation operator. It joins the value before it to the value following it. The result is a text string. in the INDIRECT part of the formula, there are two & operators, one after "Table ", the other after ROW()-1.
"Table " & ROW()-1 & "::B2" with the result of ROW()-1 as the value between the two text strings.
"Table " & 1 & "::B2" = "Table 1::B2"
INDIRECT( ) takes that text and converts it to the cell address that it represents.
B2: =IF(LEN(INDIRECT("Table "&ROW()-1&"::B2"))<1,"",INDIRECT("Table "&ROW()-1&"::B2"))
The first instance on the string in the formula is a test to see if there is anything in the target cell. If not, the formula returns a null string. If there is at least 1 character there, the second instance of INDIRECT is called on to return the name to B2 of the table Aux.
Compare your formula below:
B4: =IF(LEN(INDIRECT("Day 3"&ROW()-1&"::B2"))<1,"",INDIRECT("Day 3"&ROW()-1&"::B2"))
As shown, this is the formula in B4 of your Aux table. In Row 4, ROW() returns 4, and ROW()-1 returns 3.
So the three elements of the cell address constructed in INDIRECT are "Day 3", 3, and "::B2"
The cell being addressed is "Day 33::B2", cell B2 on the table named Day 33.
The error results from there being no table with that name.
The fix (to the table part of the reference) is to change the first text string to "Day " (including the space after the word Day).
The fix to replace Product with the driver name is to change "::B2" to ::B1"
To fit the names of your day tables and the location of the driver's name on each, your formula in B2 should read:
B2: =IF(LEN(INDIRECT("Day "&ROW()-1&"::B1"))<1,"",INDIRECT("Day "&ROW()-1&"::B1"))

Populating from one table cell in one table to another cell in another table - confusing results

Hi, really hope someone can help because I feel like I'm almost there... just not quite!
Here's what I have:
Two tables. One is called 'plantable' - this is an expanding table in so much as the user can click a button and it will add a new empty row. Within this row there is a button to remove the row (working fine), six text field cells where users can add text. Two of these text cells are called 'wb' and 'better' - this is important as they come into play later. There's also a button called 'Send to Review' on the same row.
This button does two things: It adds a new Row in a separate table called 'review table'. 'reviewtable' operates similarly to 'plantable'. It is expanding (so there's an 'add row' button) and each row consists of a remove button which removes that particular row, along with five text field cells - two of which are called 'wb' and 'better'
This is what I would like to happen: The user adds several entries (rows) in the 'plantable'. They have the option of adding one of these rows to the 'reviewtable' - if they do this it will auto-populate the text fields for 'wb' and 'better' in the newly created row in the 'reviewtable'. The user can also go directly to the 'reviewtable' and add a new row (completely independent of the 'plantable') and fill in the text fields as they require.
This is what is actually happening: It all works... apart from the fact that whichever 'add to review' button the user presses in the 'plantable' row, a new row is created in the 'review table' but it always pulls the data from the cells of the top-most row in the 'plantable'. For example, I have a plantable with three rows, a, b, c (each row has an 'add to review' button). Each row has text for the 'wb' and 'better' text cells - say, a-wb, a-better, b-wb, b-better, c-wb, c-better. Even if I click on the 'add to review' button in row c, the reviewtable will always add a new row and populate it with the contents from row a. If I click on the same button again it will add a new row and fill it with the contents of row b. If I keep pressing the button it will add more and more rows but they become blank. Also, if the user has added new rows independently to the reviewtable it won't keep the order, so instead of having a row with empty fields followed by say row a then row b, row a will always come first, followed by row b followed by the empty row. I just want them to be viewed in the order the user has added them to the reviewtable. Not what I want to happen.

I am working on a editable alv with a dynamic table <itab> .This table gets populated during runtime.Now I want to make few cell of this table not editabale (only few cell not the full columns) I knwo that the procedure is to

How to dynamically display the data from a table base on row selection of another table in ADF

I have a requirement in ADF. I need to change the data of a table based on row selection of another Table . Both the table have a Parent Child relationship between them. They have a common attribute say department_id.
                                                                                     For this I created bind variable in view object of employees table and wrote a where clause in the sql query using that bind variable. Then I created method for selection listener of department Table in java bean.
My method is following

It is printing the selected value of department id from department table in the log. But it is not able to pass the value to employees view. It is showing the following error in the log
"Definition DepartmentId of type Variable is not found in EmployeesView1."
I will be very thankful if someone helps me to solve this errror or is there any other way to achieve the same requirement.

Note quite sure why you simply wont create a viewlink for the viewobject the tables are based on..
The viewlink attribute will be based on the departmentId and it's a simple master detail relationship which automatically uses ppr.
However, if both tables are on the same page; using your hack about;
On the underlying viewobject, define a viewcriteria e.g. "listById" and set your bind variable here.

How to get save result from EXECUTE from a dynamic SQL query in another table?

With this query I want get col1 from SET and compare it to the column Region from Customer. I would like to get the matching CustomerKey for it.
After execution it says commands are executed successfully. But I want to save the result from @query in another table. I looked it up and most people say to use sp_executesql. I tried a few constructions as sampled and I would always get this error:
Msg 214, Level 16, State 2, Procedure sp_executesql, Line 12
Procedure expects parameter '@statement' of type 'ntext/nchar/nvarchar'.
So the output should be a list of CustomerKeys in another table.
How can I save the results from EXECUTE into a variable? Then I assume I can INSERT INTO - SELECT in another table.

How to dynamically copy cells from different tables?

Hi,
I've created an invoice and have 2 different tables. First is at top with Recipient information, the invoice number, their address, etc. Below that, I have a 2nd table laying out the items they are being charged for.
I would like to copy the invoice number from the 1st table, to a cell in the 2nd table or a 3rd table I will create later on. I know how to copy cells in 1 table, ie. =D4. But not sure how to target a different table altogether.
Also, is it possible to copy a cell from 1 table to a text box field?

Yvan's point is true. Please use the User Guides first; they're actually pretty readable.
However, there's a very quick & easy way to try it out as well. Go to the cell where you want your data to end up. Type "=" (without quotes) to indicate you're going to input a formula of some kind. Then without clicking inside any tables, use the list of sheets and tables to the left to get to your source table and click on the cell that contains the data you want to copy. Presto! Go back to your destination cell, and the formula is now filled in, following the scheme Yvan provided.

Referencing cells in other numbers spreadsheet files

A couple of questions:
1)I have two sheets (Sheet A and Sheet b) in the same file. Both sheets have a single table named Table 1 in them. I can double tap on a cell in Sheet A Table 1, tap on the equal sign in the entry box. I can then go to Sheet B Table 1 and double tap on a cell. Numbers inserts a reference of Sheet B::Table 1::Col Row. I can now change the value in Sheet B and Sheet A updates automatically. My question is can I type in the reference to the cell in Sheet B and not do all the finger tapping?
2)Can I type in a reference to another cell in a table on a sheet in another Numbers file located on my iPad. If not is there a way to tap to the reference?

I have had no luck typing in any formulas in iPad numbers directly. I can do it using the desktop version, but not the iPad. I found I had to do all the finger tapping the op mentions. Even to type simple formulas that I know how to do by heart, I had to search the function list and select the item from the list.
If I use the keyboard that comes up within the equation editor it places everything in quotes and sees it as text. Which doesn't invert to the actual equation. If I use the text input and type an equal sign with the equation it still sees it only as text.
If you know how to do the typing thing, please give us more in depth instructions on how to do this in numbers for iPad as that would be beneficial to a degree you annotate fathom.
Referencing the other file thing doesn't work in desktop at all, so thi is only reefing to how to get to type in my formuas by hand in. Single file, referring to a single file in iPad numbers.

Creating a Detail Table Based on an Action in Another Table or Matrix to Display in the Same Report (Not a Drill-Through)

Hello,
I was wondering if it's possible have a matrix which shows total credits by month and have drill-down groupings to display the invoice numbers for each credit. Then, once the drill-down is expanded for a particular month, be able to click on the invoice
number and have another table under the matrix display the details of the invoice.
I don't really want a drill-through because that opens a different report in the window, what I want to be able to do is stay on the main report. I also don't want to drill-into the invoice details from the matrix as that expands the matrix out and
makes it unruly and ugly. I've been playing with subreports but not able to get what I want out of it.
I hope this makes sense - is there a way to do this in SSRS?

After testing the issue in my environment, we can refer to the steps below to work around the issue:
Create a new table with the details of the invoice under the matrix.
Add a parameter named invoice which get available values from the invoice field in the dataset.
Right-click the [Sum(invoice)] cell to add an action with “Go to report” option, and specify the same report with the parameter below:
Name: invoice
Value: [invoice]
Right-click the table to add a filter in the table:
Expression: [invoice]
Operator: =
Value: [@invoice]
If there are any misunderstanding, please elaborate the issue for further investigation.
