Referencing Multiple Cells

I have a spreadsheet that has multiple sheets and multiple tables within those sheets. I need to create an additional consolidated sheet that references all of the data from all of the other sheets. In other words, whenever I make a change to one of the tables I need those changes to be reflected on the consolidated sheet.
Is there a way to do that besides using the formula tool to reference each relevant individual cell in each of the other tables one at a time? Is there a way to reference a group of cells?

I am assuming you have multiple tables that are identical (except for the data) and you want to sum up, for instance, all cells B2 to put into cell B2 of the consolidation table. Unfortunately there is no concise formula to do that like there is in Excel. You have to reference them all separately.
Do you have a lot of tables to consolidate; so many that a simple SUM(Table 2::B2,Table 3::B3...) is unwieldy? Do you have a lot of cells to consolidate or just a handful? I ask because there may be other ways to do it than a bunch of sums which you would have to modify one at a time if/when you add/remove a table.
Here is where I am going with this for the case of many tables but not a lot of cells to consolidate:
Create another table. First column will be sheet names. Second column will be table names. A single header row will have cell names (B2, C9, D11, etc) that need consolidating. A single footer row will have the sum of each column. The sheet and table names will correspond to the tables you want to consolidate. Cell C2 in this table will have the formula =INDIRECT($A2&"::"&$B2&"::"&C$1) which you can copy/paste or fill to the other cells. The footer row for column C will have =SUM(C), which you can copy/paste to the other footer cells. Your consolidation table would use the values in the footer row. If you need to add/remove a table in the future, it is simple to do and it will apply to all the consolidated cells without having to do them all one at a time.
If you have fewer tables than cells, you can transpose this so that the sheet names are in header row 1, table names in header row 2, cell names in header column A, and sums in header column B.
If you have a whole lot of cells to consolidate, ouch. Maybe there is a better way than this. If I find something or think of something, I'll let you know. Applescript is an option.

    Hello.
    I have a very complicated question, to be honest I am not totally sure if numbers is capable of handling all of this but it's worth a shot.
    I am working on a spreadsheet for organising a film. I've had the templates for years but I'm now using numbers to automate it as much as possible. Everything was going well until I hit the schedule/callsheet.
    On other sheets I can tell it to "look up scene two" it will then look up the correct row and find everything I need. On the callsheet however I might say "we're filming scenes two, five and nine" and numbers gets confused with the multiple values, Is there anyway around this?
    Also, if there is, I have a more complex question to ask. Is it possible for numbers to find and remove duplicate data? For example lets say scene two and five require Alice, but scene nine requires bob. If numbers just adds that info together it will display the result "Alice Alice Bob", is there a way to get it to parse the text, recognise the duplicate value and remove the unnecessary Alice? 
    I realise that numbers has limitations so it may not be able to do everything I want, however every bit I can automate saves me hours so even if I can only get half way there, totally worth it.

    I've modified it to there are now multiple (well only four for now until I get this in better shape) indexes for finding a scene. And assigning each block to a new row.
    I only have one slight reservation about this. If I create 10 rows, it totally works, most of the time we'll only shoot three scenes a day so it's just blank space... However Murphy's law will inevitable raise its ugly head and put me in a situation where we are shooting 11 scenes in a day. 
    For countif, I think I get what you mean... Kinda. Basicially I would create a cell which combines the character strings from each scene into one long scene. Then I would have 100 extra cells (Lets say 100 so I'll never run out) each linked to the cast list, using the character name as a variable. These cells will each parse through the string to find their character name. If it appears then a true value comes up. This will remove duplicates as each cell will only respond once. So if Alice appears in every scene shooting that day, the cell will still only light up once. Is that it.
    One other question. Whenever I combine filled cells with blank cells. I usually gets the data from the filled cells, with a 0 for each blank cell. Usually this isn't a problem, but if I want to keep this flexible then I'll have quite a few blanks. The actor example above could result in 98 zeroes. Is there anyway to have blanks just not show up at all.
    I'll email the spreadsheet in a moment, a lot of it is still rough and under construction, but you should be able to see where it's all going hopefully.

    I have an application with a tableview in javafx and i want to select multiple cells only by mouse (something like the selection which exists in excel).I tried with setOnMouseDragged but i cant'n do something because the selection returns only the cell from where the selection started.Can someone help me?

    For mouse drag events to propagate to nodes other than the node in which the drag initiated, you need to activate a "full press-drag-release gesture" by calling startFullDrag(...) on the initial node. (See the Javadocs for MouseEvent and MouseDragEvent for details.) Then you can register for MouseDragEvents on the table cells in order to receive and process those events.
    Here's a simple example: the UI is not supposed to be ideal but it will give you the idea.

    select the cells you want to format by clicking at the top-left most cell, then shift click the bottom-right most cell.
    Then open the inspector by selecting the menu item "View > Show Inspector", then click the table inspector segment:
    now use the row height and column width fields to adjust as needed.
    You can also select multiple rows and columns by clicking in an active tables row/column header, then dragging to select rows (or column), then hover the cursor on the line the separates rows (or columns) until the cursor changes to a bar with arrows, then click, hold, and drag as needed.

  • Trying to get multiple cell values within a geometry

    I am provided with 3 tables:
    1 - The GeoRaster
    2 - The geoRasterData table
    3 - A VAT table who's PK is the cell value from the above tables
    Currently the user can select a point in our application and by using the getCellValue we get the cell value which is the PK on the 3rd table and this gives us the details to return to the user.
    We now want to give the worst scenario within a given geometry or distance. So if I get back all the cell values within a given geometry/distance I can then call my other functions against the 3rd table to get the worst scores.
    I had a conversation open for this before where JeffreyXie had some brilliant input, but it got archived while I was waiting on Oracle to resolve a bug (about 7 months)

    That's a good spot and as it happens I spotted that and that is why I am sure I am querying that lob wrong. I always get the a logic going past the total length of the lob.
    I think I am ok using 11.2.0.4, if I can get this working it is really important to us, so saying to roll up to 11.2.0.4 for this would be no problem.
    The error in 11.2.0.3 was an internal error: [kghstack_underflow_internal_3].
    Something that I think I need to find out more about, but am struggling to get more information on is, I am assuming that the lob that is returned is all cell values or at lest an array of 4 byte (32 bit) chunks, although, I don't know this.
    Is that a correct assumption or is there more to it?
    Have either of you seen any documentation on how to query this lob?

    For example, I want to select cells A1, A3, A9 and so on. Afterwards I want to change the colour.

    I do not beleive this is possible, I can see other threads here from 2 years ago asking the same thing and none of them have answers.
    You can selesct a range of adjacent cells as Eric said, but not 2 different ranges. I usually use numbers on the iPad for filling in template spreadsheets that I create on my Mac. Most of the formatting I do on the Mac then fill in the blanks whilst i'm out and about.

    Did you try the "Find/Replace" dialog box?:

    I'll try to make this clear. I USED to be able to left click on a hyper link and the hyper link would open in a NEW tab. Now for some unknown reason the hyper link by default opens in the same tab (window). I have to right click the hyper link in order for it to open in a NEW tab. (Yes, my 'tools'> 'options'> 'tabs' are set to "open new windows in a new tab." (Please no answers telling me to get rid of the Ask toolbar because I don't have one.) Thank you.

  • Assign several classes to multiple cells in a table?

    Hello,
    I've searched this forum and the Internet for hours, but haven't been able to find a solution for this very basic problem. I'm editing a large table with CSS class="basicTable" assigned to it. In my stylesheet there are two classes for cell properties:
    num for cells that contain a number
    alt for cells with an alternative background colour
    I would now like to assign both classes to a group of cells <td class="num alt">...</td>, but not to  the complete table. Is there any way to do this other than editing each individual cell? When I select one cell, I can edit the CSS class in the Tag Inspector. When I select multiple cells, all I see in the Tag Insector is the CSS class for the whole table, not for the cells I have selected. 
    I am editing several large tables each with up to 10 columns and 20 rows, some cells of which are merged. It is really time-consuming to go through each cell individually.
    Has anybody ever encountered this issue?

  • Copy-Paste Multiple Cells in Cell Editor in BI7 at once

    Dear all
    I am using Cell Editor in Query Designer (BI7.0).
    There are around 200 Rows. And each Cell has got some specific restriction.
    Now, I need to copy a complete column to another column - so all restrictions/formulas of all cells in that column need to get copied to another cell of next column.
    I am able to copy single cell by cell. But, I want to copy the entire column at once and paste it (For example select multiple cells and paste).
    Is it feasible? I am unable to do this.

    As a alternative you might check out Yoink in the Mac App Store (MAS). When you drag a item, a shelf will slide out on the side of the monitor. You drop the items on the shelf, navigate to the destination then drag item to new location. Fast and simple to use.

    How can I preserve row and column addresses on multiple cells at once in Numbers 3.2.2? I do a lot of rearranging and sorting and want to reference cells in other sheets. After entering the formulas (example: '=Sheet1::Table 1::H126') I will sort the table and the formulas will not move with the sort.  I think I can fix this by going cell by cell checking the 'preserve row' and 'preserve column' boxes when editing the formula.  I want to avoid having to go one by one.  I know that checking the boxes creates a formula like this: '=Sheet1::Table 1::$H$126'  I have also tried entering this manually and filling down but it doesn't include the preservations (the $$) in the autofill.  If there is another way to remedy my sorting problem that would also be welcomed!

    In both cases it is not asked if multiple cells can be set to....
    That is a given.
    Step back a second...  It is like selecting multiple cells and setting the text color of the currently selected cells to red. This can be done. More than one cell at a time modified because they are currently selected.
    Whats is being asked is:  if more than one cell is selected at the same time can the settings "Preserve Row" an / or "Preserve Column" be applied. No table I put up will help with that question.

  • Merge multiple cells and rows

    I am trying to merge multiple cells and have found that I can do thi easily by selecting the adjancent row cells and using the TABLE - MERGE CELLS command.  However, If I want to apply the same merge to multiple rows, I can find noquick way to do this other than selecting each set of cells and using the TABLE - MERGE CELLS command each time.  Here is an example of what I want to do:

    Now what I want to do is the same process for rows 3 to 10.  However, when I try to select the section and use the TABLE - MERGE CELLS command, I get on large cell rather than split rows of merged cells as seen below:

    Ouvrez l’Utilitaire AppleScript situé dans le dossier Applications/AppleScript.
    Cochez la case “Afficher le menu des scripts dans la barre de menus”.
    Sous 10.6.x,

    Maybe you would have to create the folder Numbers and even the folder Applications by yourself.
    Select the range of cells to treat
    Go to the Scripts Menu, choose Numbers, then choose “merge_row_by_row”
    The script merge the cells of every row included in the selection.

    After updating numbers and pages I can no longer copy multiple cells from numbers and paste and match style to pages.  I used to be able to select multipule cells in a row (such as company name, address, etc.) then paste and match style on to a pages letter. I found the paste and match style option in the edit menu, however it will only work one cell at a time. Before the update is was working great.

    For diagnosing purpose thy the procedure in a new user account and see if it works there. You create a new user account in the System Preferences > Accounts. If it works in the new account it is probably a corrupt plist file that needs to be deleted.
