Reg:: SharePoint2010 Migration from One server to another

Hi Techys,
Please help to getdown from the below scenario.
Scanario:: I have one sharepoint 2010 server (2tier), i want to prepare one more server as the same.
Completed Activities:
1) I have prepared the New SharePoint server with same patch level.
2) I'm using the same DB server but prepared a Named Instance for new SP2010.(Installation success with SP2)
3) I want tomigrate the data from SPSRVR1 to SPSRVR.
ex: -->SPSRVR is Present Prod server(4 Webapps and 6 site collections)
      -->SPSRVR1 is Newly prepared server
4) I have done the Database Backup and restore successfully.
but the web app urls also has been changed. that is not my task.
present url like http://spsrvr:10000/, syntax: http://<Oldservername>:portnumber     but the url
I expected the url http://spsrvr1:10000, syntax: http://<NewServername>:portnumber
Note: While doing the database restore i have used the Overwrite the checkbox option. If i'm not using the option database restoration is failed.
Please give me ur valuable guidance.
Many Thanks,
Madhu

Hi Madhu,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to migrate SharePoint 2010 to a new server with the new URL of the web application.
I recommend to create a new web application with the URL you expected in the new server and then attach the database to the new web application.
Use the following PowerShell command to attach the restored database: Mount-SPContentDatabase "MyDatabase" -DatabaseServer "MyServer" –WebApplication http://sitename.

  • Hardware Migration from one server to another server

    Hi All,
We require more information pertaining to hardware migration from one server to another server without changing OS & DB.
We are preparing installation guideline document for the same.
Has anybody came across similar scenario?.
Any pointers on this will be highly appreciated.
    Regards
    Tushar Vhora

usually you don't have to care too much about the tools used (r3ldctl = R3load control | r3szchk = R3 size checker | r3load = R3 Load), because you normally use r3setup/sapinst to fulfill the copy/migration. r3setup/sapinst will call the appropriate tools with the needed options...
-> which release are we talking about?
-> which os and which database do you use?
-> how big is your source database?
-> do you have any time issues while making the copy?

  • Oracle db Migration from one server to another

Can any body guide me why companies migrate Oracle db from one server to another , & what is the process for doing that?

In that case, something has changed, right? The need to have a standby server has become important.
    Next steps:
    - define the real business requirements (why do we think we want to spend money on a spare server? why should the money go to a hardware company, instead of an increase in my salary? what benefit are they looking for?)
    - see whether any known ideas or alternatives fit the requirements, see whether the backup should be a standby server, a hot failover server, or some other backup mode;
    - go to the Oracle Technet site, look under the Product Centers: Database area to see whether there are any related topics (such as 'availability', as one of the logical reasons for a backup is to make the application more avaliable); check in that area for any white papers; read the white papers to formulate an idea, write down interesting keywords;
    - look in the Oracle docuentation, list of books, to see whether there are any books specifically dealing with that topic (such as Oracle Data Guard);
    - use Google to search for the combination of 'Oracle backup' and the interesting keyword and study several of the sites;
    - form a basic plan;
    - go to expert and trusted sources (these forums, OraFaq.com), post a plan and ask for feedback.
There are literally dozens of alternatives. Research and find the one(s) that are right for your situation. That includes the technical as well as the financial reasons.
More than anything, that means you need to learn to ask the right question. And that often means asking the same question several different ways, and attempting to answer each variation yourself to see how the answer solves your specific needs.

If they are the same platform/version you should be able to copy the database across as-is. The users directory entries (icsdwphost) will need to be updated to reflect the new hostname for the calendar server.
As with any move/migration, test and retest.

  • Spatial and MV - migrating from one server to another question

If we want to migrate from one MV server + database to another one - is it possible to automatically export/import map cache definitions (MDSYS.SDO_CACHED_MAPS_TABLE)? and MDSYS.SDO_GEOM_METADATA_TABLE ? - this metadata table imports only references to tables using imp/exp.exe tools but not references to views
    thanks,
    Branislav

You are correct that the migration tool will copy security where manually won't as for fariables, that should not be a problem either way.
The unicode file utility is supposed to convert lots of things including outlines and load rules. It can be used to convert locale. Below are the options and an example of changing the locale
    Options:
-a List all the supported locales
-b Create a backup file (.bak) for each modified file
-c Convert each specified text file without a UTF-8 signature to UTF-8, stripping off any
existing locale indicator and adding a UTF-8 signature
-d Delete any locale indicator from each specified text, rule, or outline file
    (Does not delete UTF-8 signatures)
-e Display the encoding of each specifed text, rule or outline file
    -h Display this text
-i Add a locale indicator to any specified non-Unicode text, rules, or outline file
-l Use the specified locale for any conversion or labeling (ESSLANG is the default)
    -q Operate quietly
-s Add a UTF-8 signature to any specifed text file that does not have a UTF-8 signature or a locale indicator
The -c, -d, -i, and -s options may not be used in combination. The remaining
options may be used in combination with these options or in combination with
    each other.
    First delete the existing locale
    essutf8 -d myfile1.txt myfile2.rul
Delete any locale indicator from myfile1.tst      and myfile2.rul. Does not delete UTF-8      signatures.
    then add the new one
    essutf8 -i myrule.rul
Add the ESSLANG locale indicator to      myrule.rul if myrule.rul      does not have a      locale indicator or a UTF-8 signature.

  • Locale Error while migrating from One Server to another Server in Essbase

    Hi Gurus,
Actually we are trying to migrate the Essbase Native users/groups from Windows 2003 Server to 2008.In windows 2003 the Version is 11.1.1 and in 2008 its 11.1.2.While Migrating i faced he below error.I was using the Migration Wizard to migrate.
    Start of Application Migration.
    [D4W0218G.americas.hpqcorp.net:1423.Fiji]     MigrateApplication     February 15, 2013 10:30:04 AM SGT     Failed
Error: Source and target servers should be of same locale for migration. [Source Locale: English_UnitedStates.MS1252@Binary, Target Locale: English_UnitedStates.Latin1@Binary]
    End of Application Migration.
I even tried to change the target local to source local name in Environment Variables -->ESSLANG=English_UnitedStates.MS1252@Binary but of no use.
Can anyone please suggest me how to rectify this error.
    Regards,
    Naveen

    Hi,
Review the section beginning at page 663 on unicode applications from the Essbase Database Admin Guide. On windows this is the ESSLANG environment variable on unix there is a file that you must modify.
    See http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12825_01/epm.111/esb_dbag.pdf
I do suggest you read the whole section I referenced above. You would not be changing the source server. It is whatever format it is. You need to change in windows 2008.
    Mark if this helps you.

  • Repository migration from one server to another

    Hi All,
We have Hyperion components (EPMA, Planning, EAS, HFR, Shared services) and SQL server on same server. Now we are planning to migrate SQL to another server.
Below are some questions i have:
1.Do we need to reconfigure components individually?
2.what difference it makes selecting the option "Drop and recreate tables" / "Reuse the existing database".
and for what db's do we need to select the option "Drop and recreate tables" / "Reuse the existing database" ?
3.How can we update/reconfigure EPMA Planning application Databases to new server?
    Thanks,
    Nainitha.

    Hello,
1.Do we need to reconfigure components individually?I think this depends on the way you have configured your existing environment. If you have used separate database for different components you will have to reconfigure it again and select the option *"Perform First time configuration"* so that you can update the connection information and then select *"Reuse the existing database"*.
2.what difference it makes selecting the option "Drop and recreate tables" / "Reuse the existing database".Well if you choose *"Drop and recreate tables"* it would drop all the tables that are present and it would be as good as a fresh installation. If you have any planning applications in your existing environment it would not be available when you perform reconfiguration and select this option. Moreover you would not be able to view the Data forms etc that you might be using currently.
for what db's do we need to select the option "Drop and recreate tables" / "Reuse the existing database" ?I think you need to select *"Reuse the existing Database"* for all the components since you are moving database to another machine, so that it updates only the relevant information.
3.How can we update/reconfigure EPMA Planning application Databases to new server?Copy all the database that is used as a data source to the new machine. Once you have successfully configured the components, you would be able to view the datasource in workspace. Update the connection information there.
    Thanks.

You need to copy your input and output file stores from the old server to the new server. By default these are located in the <Business Objects install path>\FileStore directory.
Then you need to stop the CMS, Right click the CMS,Click the Configuration tab, and then click Specify.
    Choose Copy, then click OK.
Choose the version information for the source CMS database.
Select the database type for the source CMS database, and then specify
its database information (including host name, user name, and password).
Select the database type for the destination CMS database, and then
specify its database information (including host name, user name, and
    password).
When the CMS database has finished copying, click OK.
Once this process has been completed start the CMS and click on update objects -> located on the top of the CCM.
I'd advise taking full backups beforehand.

  • Migration of company code from one server to another

    Dear Sir/Madam,
We are in the process of migrating company code from one server to another server. We have activated the company code with ewt in old server on 01.10.10. We have to migrate the same company w.e.f. 01.11.10 to new server.
we have two options one is to migrate the company without ewt activation where we can take all the open items and trial balance and then activate ewt and do the required health check up in ewt.
second option is to activate the ewt and then migrate , here the issue is that if open items are migrated after ewt activation the tds gets calculated again.
In indian scenario we have to pay the tds (challan updation) by 7th of next month, if we migrate then this is not possible because in the new server we do not have the data in the table required for clearing the entries. We are thinking of doing the challan updation in the old server itself.
Can you suggest us the option through which we can migrate the company code. If you have any other option then please suggest.

  • Process for migrating CMSDK from one server to another

    All:
We are in the process of migrating our CMSDK installation and database from one server to another. In doing so, we would like to retain our documents and folders and other custom objects that have been created till date. If there is a recommended migration process that you could point us to, it would be greatly appreciated.
    Our initial thought is to:
    1. Install the CMSDK server on the target server machine
    2. Export source CMSDK schema from source database server
    3. Import source CMSDK schema into target database server
Are we on the right track? If so, are there any pitfalls and issues we can expect to encounter. Any information will be very helpful.
    Thanks

The utility should help you a lot. The best documentation on how to use the utility is in the 9iFS Setup and Administrators guide (doc number A95995-01) Chapter 8. It pretty much works the same way then as it does now. These are two metalink notes on doing the export/import silently (29928.1 - 177816.1). Doing it silently is very tedious since you having to create numerous .def files and other scripts to run them.
I will look around for any other stuff I have, but the 9iFS document is very good as a reference no matter what version of CMSDK. If you have problems finding it, I can try to send it to you, but it is around 5.6M.

  • Issue in migrating analysis service job from one server to another

    Hi All,
I'm migrating analysis services from one server to another, within the source server there is a job with the name
denreportingprocess which executes a batch file within local drive on server. I have moved all the analysis services cubes from the source server to destination and all the databases on the source server have been restored to destination.Verified
cubes are pointing to the correct database by modifying the connection string within the datasource part of the cube databases.
I have copied the entire process folder from source to destination and edited the code within the run file and code within the job pointing the locations to new server.
Below is the job code, it is running a batch file placed in E drive
    E:\MSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVER\process\run.cmd
Below is the text within the batch file (windows command script)
    E:\MSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVER\process\ASCMD -S "servername" -i "E:\MSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVER\process\Process.xmla"
    -o "E:\MSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVER\process\Log.txt"
Below are the list of files within the folder E:\MSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVER\process

  • Best Way to Migrate an application from one server to another

I couldn't seem to find the best way to this by Googling. If you have two instances of Sun Web Server 7, and you want to migrate a web application from one server to another, what is the best way to that?

I am sorry. My question was poorly worded after some hours of frustration. What I am really trying to do is develop a base virtual machine snapshot with Sun Web Server Loaded and a base set of applications.
When the need arises, I need to deploy another VM and start it up. There seems to be some issue with the host name of the VM and the administration server, or something. It is my impression that as longs as I have everything contained in one directory like /webserver, I should be able to copy everything to a new machine and start it up. I know I need the listeners listening on all ip addresses and the jdk being used would need to be in that directory as well. Is there anything I am missing here or that I need to watch out for?
