Regarding deletion of archives from asm

Dear Gurus
I want to delete archivelogs from ASM and want to schedule a script for same in crontab. Please tell me the way for same.
Also i removed archives manually from asmcmd. But when i runned below command,i didn't observed any change in the free_space.
select total_mb,free_mb,(total_mb-free_mb) used from v$asm_diskgroup;
Regards

First of all: always, always include your four digit Oracle version and platform information,
Moreover, crontab is a paleolithic tool, which you don't need as there is a more powerful scheduler in both database control and the database itself.
But more importantly: One doesn't remove archivelogs using OS commands, as that will make RMAN backups don't function correctly anymore.
You need
delete obsolete archivelog all
in RMAN
Doing so, the RMAN catalog in your controlfile and the OS will be consistent.

  • Deleting applied archives from standby

    Hello Guys,
We have oracle 10g rel 2 on hp-ux
I feel this common question for dataguard implementation
Just want to check best way of deleting archives automatically from standby database,i have 2 methods in mind
    as below
1)At os level shell script-finding last seqno from alert log at standby/or query v$views(select max(sequence#) from v$archived_log) ,passing it to script
using rman as :*delete archivelog until sequence seqno;*
or deleting at os level upto this seqno
(Making script is not issue with this functionality and scheduling it in cron)
    2)by RMAN at standby
    set alter system set "_log_deletion_policy"='ALL' scope=spfile;
    set CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO APPLIED ON STANDBY;
however i have no plans to take backup at standby, still can i use above command
is it reliable i faced some issues in past inspite of this configurations archives were not deleted at standby
Please give your views is there any other method to delete archives automatically ,and which one is more preferred
    and reliable method/best method
    Thanks

logdeletion_policy parameter is static, so which you cant change dynamically, PRimary should bounce, If it is fine then you can go ahead.
If you do not have time, then prepare an RMAN script to delete the archives.

  • Ship archive from ASM to filesystem

    Hi,
I need to ship archive log created into ASM to another server on filesystem.
My database is a standard edition 11.2.
    Is there a automatic method?

    Hello Mr D,
if you plan to perform it everyday then it is better to go with ACFS replication.

  • How to delete archive log files from ASM through Grid Control

    Hi
Anybody suggest me how to delete archive log files from ASM through Grid Control.
    Thanks

It is important to specify both, the oracle version and os version when posting, so confusions can be avoided.
In this particular case, since you are referring to asm and grid control you could be talking about either 10gR1, 10gR2 or 11gR1; but I strongly suggest you to avoid us to be guessing. In either case, you sould go to the maintenance tab of the target database and program a scheduled 'delete noprompt obsolete;' procedure. This will purge the information stored at the Flash recovery area, which I assume you have declared inside the ASM.

i deleted my albums from Facebook while cleaning my iPhoto archive.. Does anyone know if i can get them back and how? thanks!

    while cleaning my iPhoto archive
What do you mean by that?  Do you mean you deleted photos or albums from your iPhoto Library?
You best solution is to use Time Machine to restore your library from just before you "cleaned your iPhoto archive".

  • Is It Possible To Delete Certain Clips From An Archive?

After successfully completing an Archive, I noticed there are certain clips that I will never use and would like to get rid of them.  I realize that i don't have to import them into my Events  but don't see a reason to have them taking up HD space.  The Archive was built from a mini DV tape cassette which means they are already stored there.  Is it possible to delete certain clips from an Archive?  If so, can't figure out how to go about it.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would try this on a small archive first and on a duplicate, just to make sure you don't damage the entire archive by using this technique.
You can open an archive by right clicking on the archive icon and Show Package Contents. You should get a regular finder file structure. Find the files you want to discard, select them and Move to Trash.  That should be all there is to it.  I don't see where this should cause any problems, you should be able to import the files into FCPX without any problems (but** I have not tried this for myself — that's why I recommend trying this out on a duplicate archive first.)

  • Regarding delete entreis from infotype

    hi experts,
i need to delete multiple records from the custmized infotype one at a time plz suggest me how to do that plz dnt suggest loop at itab,hr_infotype_opertaion as i already used but it is taking so much of time for deleting 4000 to 5000 entries.
    plz help me .....

    Rajat,
You can go for this Njoy Transaction SE16N which is a direct delete at the database
give any specific selection criteria .Normally when you trigger this tcode selection screen appears and as per your selection criteria the output appears in the ALV Grid output without delete buttons. To Ensure Delete buttons After providing the selection criteria give &SAP_EDIT in tcode bar and press enter .. this will ensure you the delete buttons in the GRID output . At a time you can delete 4-5k of entries ...
    Cheers,
    Jacks.

  • Delete an entry from a ZIP archive

    Hi,
Does anyone know how to delete a zipentry from a zipfile?
    G.

Yes. Recreate the ZIP file without writing that special entry... (You can't change or delete ZIP entries with the Java classes, and I'm not sure whether it's possible at all).

  • Delete Transaction Data from date to date

    Hi All,
we want to delete transactional data from date to to date
is there any way to delete data from date to todate?
We are aware of following tcodes
    OBR1- Reset transaction data
CXDL - Delete transaction data from ledger
But there is no period/from date to date option available
    Example:
we are in 2010 now we want to delete data from 2005- 2007 and we don't want to archive
    Thanks in advance
    Regards,
    MS

    Hi Eli,
    Thanks for the reply,
Yes, you are right its not right to delete data based on the period... but we have such kind of typical scenario
Let me get some other opinion

  • Deletion without archiving is not allowed in the production client

    Hi Gurus!
I have a new problem with regards deleting products in the Production system in CRM. I can't seem to delete the product in Production Box using this report(COM_PRODUCT_DELETE_SINGLE). It gives me this error: 'Deletion without archiving is not allowed in the production client' I'm doing this to solve my issue with regards some of the products not having any Sales and Distribution Data. The steps i did below worked in QA box.
These are the steps i did in the QA box to delete the product:
    1) I've deleted the products that has no sales data using the report COM_PRODUCT_DELETE_SINGLE. I went to COMMPR01 to tag the said products with a status 'To Archive' then saved it before I triggered this report.
    2) I've registered it first in the table COMC_PR_TOOL_REG and filling up the necessary parameters
    3) After Deleting the said products in CRM, I logged into R/3 to access the material (MM02). I just changed the sales text and saved it to trigger the replication in CRM.
When I checked the product in CRM, it worked. The Sales and Distribution Data is already shown.
Now I have a new problem with regards this procedure. I can't seem to delete the product in Production Box using this report. It gives me this error: 'Deletion without archiving is not allowed in the production client'
I have already followed the same procedure as to what I did in the QA box but for some reason it didn't work in the Production Box.
Could anyone please help me with this. Thanks!
    Thanks & Regards
    Nathan

I was able to solve the problem.
In Report COM_PRODUCT_DELETE_SINGLE,there is a special check in order for the productive system detection.
The logic in this program has a perform check_authority which will automatically produce the error and prevents you from deleting a product in the production system.
    Solution:
I copied the program COM_PRODUCT_DELETE_SINGLE to new one ZCOM_PRODUCT_DELETE_SINGLE then I placed a comment on the PERFORM check_authority.

  • How to remove Database Files and Backup from ASM

    Hi All,

I have a automated script to Clone the Database, but to Clone Database we need remove the old database from ASM before start this operation. I want remove only Database files and keep the configuration (such as oratab/network/ocr and so on).
Question: There is a easy way to remove these files without connect on ASM or by using DBCA?

Yes... there is a easy way. Use command DROP DATABASE.
Use the DROP DATABASE command to delete the target database and, if RMAN is connected to a recovery catalog, unregister it. RMAN removes all datafiles, online redo logs, and control files belonging to the target database. By default, RMAN prompts for confirmation.
Put this command on your script before clone your database:
    RMAN> CONNECT TARGET SYS@test1
    RMAN> STARTUP FORCE MOUNT
    RMAN> SQL 'ALTER SYSTEM ENABLE RESTRICTED SESSION';
RMAN> DROP DATABASE INCLUDING BACKUPS NOPROMPT;Regards,

  • Is direct deletion without archiving possible?

    Hi All,
I have a scenario in which i have to delete messages of a particular interface directly after a retention period of 7 days. I should not archive the messages. And this should apply only to that interface and not the others.
    How can i do this?

    Hi Sivasakthi,
    Below are my answers
If a message is not flagged for archiving and it is automatically flagged for deletion, will it be deleted automatically by SAP after the retention peiod is exceeded or do we have to schedule the delete job?
You need to schedule the jobs, please schedule below jobs
    RSXMB_DELETE_ARCHIVED_MESSAGES Delete Archived XML Messages
RSXMB_DELETE_MESSAGES Delete XML Messages from the Persistency Layer marked for DEL
When a message is deleted we will not be able to view it in SXMB_MONI isnt it? What about messages that are archived?
You will not be able to see both of them but you can retrive the arhived messages using 'Archived XML messages' option in SXMB_MONI transaction
And incase i maintain a retention period for deletion as 10 and archive retention period as 30, it makes no sense isnt it?
Because the message will be deleted by delete job before it becomes available for archival.
    YES, you are correct.
I request you go through my blog & wiki that covers the basics of this concept
