Regarding File Offset While Reading

Suppose I have a file with the string "HELLO" written in it. I now try reading it with
readBytes(AdobeArray,20,2) // But I dont get any EOF error inspite of reading the file from offset 20 which is well beyond the EOF offset for this file.
Why is it so ?

You don't mention any versions of software you are using. Which JDK is this? Are you using the default provider to do DES? You might want to query the bug database to check on RandomAccessFile, there were some issues there like this:

Urgent -Encypted file corruption while reading/Writing

I am working on Encryption and Decryption using DES and ECB padding scheme. I am
encrypting a text file and storing the encrypted string in another dat file using
FileOutputStream.write(byte[]).We are storing the "Key" using ObjectOutputStream in another
dat file . Now the same file needs to be downloaded across network. we are doing so using a
servlet. The servlet uses RandomAccessFile.read(byte[] ,0,file.length()) to read the
encrypted as well as the Key file . This data is stored in a vector and sent to the Client
using the ObjectOutputStream.The Encrypted file is written using streams while downloading
into a dat file . When the same is decrypted, it gets corrupted . And if I simply copy And
Paste the files from Server to client instead of downloading on client it works.
Please help me out of the problem ..................

You will not get a warranty that your stream from the http server will be solid. You have to check the lenght of the data you've got from the server before you will decrypt it. I also use something like RetryBufferedStream to solve that problem (because stream from http may give you EOF just because of net timeout or bad connection).

Small size file can not read correctly on other linux

Hi, I am running archlinux 0.8 on my laptop, and there is another linux runs kernel version 2.6.20 with root filesystem of debian v3.1.
I wrote a shell script which reads a small, 49 bytes, only 1 line conf file on my archlinux, it works fine.
But if I copy script & conf files to debian, the script can not read conf file with:
while read f;do; echo $f; done < conf
but `cat`,`more` commands can read it. I have to open conf file with vi on debian and do nothing but :wq rewrite it to make script working.
Both arch & debian use ext3 file system. Could anyone tell me why? thanks.

I think your command is wrong: it works with zsh and doesn`t work in bash. Maybe you should remove extra ';'?

Facing issue while reading XML file 'LPX-00217: '

Hi Gurus,
I am facing one issue while reading the xml file in the one my 11g database instance. The same file if I ran in another instance then it is working fine for me.
I presume it will be related to NLS character. Please help me in finding out character set.
And the issue where I am getting instance character set is 'US7ASCII', and I am not getting this issue in another instance where the character set is 'UTF8'.
And here is the issue I am getting when I was trying to load that file.
Error Occurred :=ORA-31011: XML parsing failed
ORA-19202: Error occurred in XML
processing
LPX-00217: invalid character 150 (U+0096)
Error at line 1
Pls help me in debugging this issue.

The US7ASCII charset stores 7-bit characters, but you're trying to insert a value out of range (150). So that's expected behaviour.
There were some "tricks" to allow that on some versions, using NLS settings, but it's definitely not the clean way to do it so I won't develop.
The best thing you have to do is to migrate to character set AL32UTF8, which is fully compliant with XML.

Lsmw error 'Specify Files first' while executing option 'Read Data'.

while trying to create mass users through LSMW, i am gettign the error 'Specify Files first' while executing option 'Read Data'.
I have specified file (.txt), manually created (with'1 tab space' between each term). i have used option 'On the PC(Frontend)'. No error while saving.
Next- i have executed 'Assign Files', where the file appeared automatically.
Next- Here, when i try to execute 'Read Data', i get the error 'Specify Files first'.
Can anyone help in resolving this error.

What is your purpose? Are you tring to upload the data with more file variant?
There are two possibilities to make file names more variable:
1.If you choose system dependent file names by setting the according flag (in the first step 'Maintain object attributes'), you can define file names for each system in step 'Specify files' by assigning the files to a specific system ID (with a double-click on the specified file).
2.You can use wildcards in the file names where you can assign several values.

the above is the servlet class and the method which is using to read the property files from root directory in Unix.
ie../opt/mywebapp/loan/abc.props,abc.log
loan is the directory in which two property files are placed.
i just want to where to place property files in tomcat so that its going to read the property files.
Right now, i placing it in the WEBAPPS/MYWEBAPPLICATION/WEB-INF/LOAN/abc.props,abc.logs.
Its giving me errors such as FILENOTFOUNDEXCEPTION or cannot read the property files.

Error while reading wsdl file

I created and deployed a BPEL process with a JMS adapter and DB adapter.
I have tested this and it works fine.
After a few days, I try to open the project and the BPEL process, and click on the DB
adapter and it throws an exception on the designer :
"Error while reading wsdl file ... (wsdl file name) NULL Exception"
This is hard to debug as the exception does not provide any info, NULL.
This has happened several times for my project. The next time the JMS adapter hit the
same exception while opening on designer. This one I notice happened after I imported
a new schema file (xsd) into the BPEL process.
Only way around that I have for this currently is to delete and recreate the adapters, which as time
consuming as I have to re-create and re-assign a lot of the activities.
Has anyone encountered this and is there a way to fix this without deleting/recreating the adapters ?

You would have to read it all in, write it all out again and write the new object. You're better off keeping the file open while you still have objects to write to it.

If you're not writing nulls, the correct technique is to loop until you get an EOFException. I don't favour explicitly writing a null just to get around this as suggested above, as it means you can never write a null for any other purpose.

Error while reading file entries from the database

We are running a instance of xmii 12 in a VM (VMware) and after somebody shutdown the host machine without shutting down the VM (great idea isn't it?) we keep getting this message when trying to access xMII:
"Application cannot be started.
Details: com.sap.engine.services.deploy.container.ExceptionInfo: Error while reading file entries from the database."
Any clue? Any suggestion on how we can recover from that?

Well thanks for the hint. Actually, the DB was up but corrupted. I managed to solve the bug by re-deploying xMII (using the SDM tool) which kept all my data but redeployed both the config db of (x)mii and the class files.

The XML file contains the details from an IDOC number , the expected output is XML file giving all the segments details in a single page and send the user in lotus note as an attachment, But in the present output after opening the attachment i am getting a single XML file which contains most of the segments ,but in the bottom part it is giving the below error .

for all the xml its giving the error in bottom part , but once we open the source code and if we saved in system without changing anything the file giving the xml file without any error in that .

E1EDT13 with QUALF>003 and <E1EDT13 SEGMENT="1">
with <QUALF>001 having almost same segment data . but E1EDT13 with QUALF>003 is populating all segment data
properly ,but E1EDT13 with QUALF>001 is giving in between.

Not recognizing # while reading the file from application server

I am reading a file from application server. While reading into internal table with read statement the last field in each record is filling with hash symbol in the last digit. If I write any if condition with HASH symbol its not going inside the if condition, means its not recognizing as hash may be its internally treating as some other. I need to remove the hash from that field. How I can do that.

I faced exact situation. Yes, internally its treated as some other special character. What i did was, becuase hash symbol was always coming at the end...i created a dummy field in my internal table so that it will not interfere with my actual data. When i see the data in my internal table, the hash always falls in the last field (dummy) which i will ignore. I could not get solution to remove this hash so i adopted this approach and it worked!!
