Hi Rama,
Feature Stapling  is the great way if the site definition is already in use (and sites have been created).

  • How do you open the site definition in Sharepoint Designer?

    Hi,
I am looking to open this to try to edit it. Where is it and how do you open it?
    Thanks

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to edit the site definition in SharePoint Designer.
A site definition is a collection of files stored on the server used for all new sites and templates created in SharePoint.
They provide preconfigured lists, Web Parts, navigation bars, features, and so on for each site.
The role of the site definition becomes especially important the next time you perform server-wide maintenance, for example upgrading the server, applying a solution upgrade, or a branding exercise.
Not only is the site definition updated, but all the pages associated with it are updated, which keeps them consistent and easily manageable.
Microsoft SharePoint Designer 2010 is a Web and application design program used to design, build, and customize Web sites running on SharePoint Foundation 2010 and Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010. With SharePoint Designer 2010, you can create data-rich
Web pages, build powerful workflow-enabled solutions, and design the look and feel of your site.

    Hey,
As Balamurugan said, that is also a way to do this.
But jquery increses overhead for just small thing.
So put something like this in your <head> section of master page
    <style>
    .s4-help {
        display: none !important;
    </style>
This is the easiest way to do this :)

  • Alternatives for Site Definitions in SharePoint Office 365

    Hi
As we don't have the option for the deployment of site definitions on Office 365, Then what are the alternative approaches to achieve the site definitions feature?

We can use a Sandbox solution to deploy a web template to SharePoint online.

  • How do I manually recreate the site definition (.ste) for an existing site?

My iMac hard drive recently failed and had to be replaced.
Though I had backed up my web site files, I don't have a backup of the site's Site Management (*.ste) file.
Thus, I'm unable to manage this site in Dreamweaver (reinstalled on the new hard drive).
In some forum threads, there are references to "manually recreating the site definition." How do I do this?
    Thanks!

    paintwlight wrote the following:
Does Putting the site to the remote server constitute an Export, whereby a .ste file would have been created during the Put process and, therefore, exist on the remote server?
No. Hit F1 and search for Export.
If so, I assume that if I copy the .ste file currently on the remote server and save it locally (into Library:Application Support:Adobe:Common:9:Sites:Site Prefs), all will be well and Dreamweaver will once again be able to manage the site.
DW can manage the site after you have defined the site as mentioned
earlier. It does not need the .ste files at all. Those are created by
the user via the Export feature and are not used by DW itself.
Gosh, I wish I would have known about the .ste file before my hard drive died. This seems like way too much responsibility to put on one teeny tiny little file -- especially one that's not kept with the rest of the web site files.
The .ste file contains only the paths to your site and the login
information - if you choose to include that information. It does not
contain any of the actual files. DW does not act as a backup or archival
program. You need to keep backups of your entire site (including source
files used to create the site, such as Photoshop/Fireworks layered
images, Flash .fla files, etc...) as well as backups of the .ste files.

  • Display Doc ID with Link to the Property page in SharePoint 2010

    Good Morning.
I have been asked to add the DocID to the search results.  Part two is to have that docID link to the property page for the item.
I have added DocID to fetched property's and can display it fine on the page but I am having problems creating the link to the property pages.
    can anyone help?
So far I am trying to do this in the searchcoreresults XSL.
I would like the format of the DOCID to appear like this.
[ DOCID ] with the Hyperlink to take you to the item property's page.
    thank you.

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to display Doc ID with Link to the Property page in SharePoint 2010.
SharePoint indexes Document IDs as a managed property by default, which means that with a little magic, we can add the Document ID into the search results.
We need to modify the XSL so that we display the Document ID in the search results.
Here is a great article for your reference:

  • Just where ARE the site definition files?

I've just received CS4.  I want to move it to my more powerful laptop when I install it.  I know how to do that and I can move site files, but where are the site definition files?  I really don't want to have to set up each site from scratch.  Is there one (or more) files that are the name, url, location, id, password etc for each of the (many) sites in CS3?
    don Carlos

To import/export site definitions (not site files):
    On the old computer:
    Site > Manage Sites
Shift click to highlight all site names
    Export..
Same procedure on new computer then Import..

  • Where is the site definitions?

I had to reformat my hard drive, but I do have a backup. I
re-installed DW-CS4, and would like to restore the site
definitions, as I have several and don't want to have to start from
    scratch.

The problem is that the site definitions (not the site files
    - the
DEFINITIONS for the site) are saved in the Windows Registry,
    and to get at
them, you need to boot from the drive (there are utilities
    that might help
you - I cannot vouch for them, though). If you have not
    exported them and
saved the export files, you will have to redefine each site,
    most likely.

  • Where did DW put the site definitions?

Hi all.  Just started with DW in CS 5.5, and I'm perplexed as to where it put the definitions for two sites I created.  The directories that correspond to the two sites reside on an external drive.  I took the drive and plugged it into another machine, launched Dreamweaver, and tried to open the sites there.  Nope.  I would expect the definitions to have been stored in the corresponding directories, along with the source files for the site (to accommodate this very scenario).
Where are they?  Can I move them to the source directories on the external drive and access them on multiple machines without a hassle?  If not, DW is out.
    Thanks!

Duplicate posts?  I don't see any other post on this topic.
Yes, sorry - it was a shot from the hip.
Where are the .ste files though?  I'd rather not have to continually synchronize files between machines by importing and exporting.  Why not just store the site definitions with the site contents?
There are NO *.ste files until you export them.  Then they go where you selected as the destination for them.  Once you have defined a site and exported the definition, there would be no need to ever export again unless you changed something in the definition.
You'd have to ask your other question of the DW Dev team.

  • Usage of relative url across site collections in sharepoint 2010

    Hi
I have a webapplication with 2 sitecollections. In one sitecollection, created a link by going to navigation under sitesettings.
Added relative url to map to 2nd site collection. Eg: /sites/site2/page1.aspx
But by doing so, it is giving error. Help me out how to give relative url pointing to different site collection from another sitecolleciton.
    Thanks in advance
    Naina

Say, Site Collection 1 URL: http://sitecollection1.domain.com/
    Site Collection 2 URL : https://sitecollection2.domain.com/
Now, on "Site Collection 1", In Site Actions-->Site Settings-->Navigation, when you use "relative URLs", it will always refer to the current Site Collection i.e Relative URL "/sites/site2" will always be "http://sitecollection1.domain.com/sites/site2".
Anyways, what is the "requirement". What are you trying to solve by using "relative URL" for Site Collection 2 on Navigation of Site Collection 1. Reason for asking is, there might be different approach for your "requirement".

  • JavaScript - How to collapse/uncollapse (hide/unhide) the top menus in SharePoint 2010?

    Hi there,
I will appreciate if someone can provide JavaScript that can hie/unhide the top ribbon and navigation menu? (SharePoint 2010)
    Thanks.

    Hi,
By investigating the page source, we can see that the Ribbon is corresponding to the <div> whose id is “s4-ribbonrow”, the Top Navigation is “zz17_TopNavigationMenuV4”,
then we can change the style these two elements to hide/unhide them.
