Regular web log (access.log) rotation?

I am using Weblogic as a web server and I have enabled http logging to
the access.log file. What is the BEA recommended method for copying and
purging the access.log file on a regular (daily) basis?
- Kevin

Refer to README.TXT of Service Pack 5 for details.

In fact I just worked on a school in New Jersey where I had previously
set up filtering for 31 cameras to work over three different BMgr servers
at three different school locations. And the police use them.
(Funny thing - police explained the want to be able to check on problems
in case something happened like an attack that took out power to the
school, or some disaster, or even if they cut power in a hostage
situation. It was explained to them that a power outage would also cut
off their view of the cameras, to which they reacted with 'Huh! I guess
    it would!')

  • How to create logs(access logs, debug logs..)

    Hi,
I need to catch the exception and create the log file with the exception message in sun access manager. I am using com.sun.identity.log.Logger for doing it. we have methods to create the logRecord without ssotoken, so when I am trying to create a log file without the ssotoken nothing is happining i:e no log file is created, the same thing I am able to do with by passing ssotoken. my question in the application if we get any exception before getting the ssotoken then how to log the message into the log file.
    please help me...
    Thanks

You may want to use the "Shotdown hooks" API -- http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/api/java/lang/Runtime.html#addShutdownHook(java.lang.Thread).

  • Extended format of access.log and log rotation

I am using WebLogic Server 6.1sp1. I want to use extended format of web
server access log. I also want to use log rotation based on date. But it
seems not to work together. After my investigation I can say:
    - access.log in common format can be rotated based on date an on size,
    - access.log in extended format (either in its default form or
completely redefined) cannot be rotated neither based on date nor size.
In the second case at first time WebLogic tries to rotate logfile
IOException is thrown with a message like "java.io.IOException: Failed
to rename log file on attempt to rotate logs". Than it throws
IOException with a message "Exception flushing HTTP log file. (Bad file
descriptor)." when it tries to flush content of logfile to the disk.
After that WebLogic server stops to write to access.log.
Is it possible to rotate access.log in extended format?

  • Portlet access log

    Hello,
Web servers provide a standard log about http requests, from which we can build page view statistics.
We need to generate statistics about individual portlet access:
+ (basically) we need a count of the hits to a portlet (ie. the number of times the portlet was displayed)
+ (hopefully) we need a count of interactions with a portlet (ie. the count of clics from within that portlet)
After having had a look a the logs (access.log, netuil.log, etc.) I found no information from which to easily build such statistics.
    Any idea will be welcome.
    Thanks,

    Hello
I am not sure to see what could be the issue...
Do you have a simple portlet not secured in the provider ? And does this one works ?
If not you probably have a issue with the Registration URL, is this URL is correct ? Does the Portal middle tier can access the provider server ? (proxy, FW, ... can be installed between the portal and the provider and do not allow the portal to call this provider)

  • Rotation of access logs unsuccessful !!

    Hi everybody,
I tried setting up the rotation for access log (WLS 6.0), as per the user documentation. This
doesn't seem to work, neither "by Size" nor "by Date". My config.xml does show
    proper tags for logging.
    <WebServer DefaultWebApp="DefaultWebApp_myserver" LogFileBufferKBytes="15" LogFileName="./config/mydomain/logs/sushil.log"
    LogRotationPeriodMins="1" LogRotationTimeBegin="06-07-2001-14:19:30" LogRotationType="size"
    LoggingEnabled="true" Name="myserver" />
Am I missing something here. I was wondering if someone could give me an insight
    on this.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sushil

I see there is no space between 1000" and max.
    <access-log path="../log/http-web-access.log" max-file-size="1000"max-directory-size="10000"/>
However, you need to use the ODL logging line in config
         <odl-access-log path="../log/http-web-access" max-file-size="1000" max-directory-size="10000"/>

  • File name format of rotated access log

    Hi,
    I'm using wls5.1sp9 on Solaris.
Is it possible to specify a different file name format of the rotated http access
    logs?
Instead of getting files named access.log0001 and so on, I would prefer access.log.<date>
    or some other custom format.
    Best regards,

    Hi,
Thanks for your response. But I have another query. The name of the file as per your reply is like UsageReport.xls correct? Now my query is, should it contain some date, account id/orgid etc associated for that usage. The reason for my query is that if MSP
downloads the usage for different orgs having same bill date then it would conflict with the different usage files.

  • EM Application Log and Web Access Log growing too large on Redwood Server

    Hi,
We have a storage space issue on our Redwood SAP CPS Orcale servers and have found that the two log files above are the main culprits for this. These files are continually updated and I need to know what these are and if they can be purged or reduced down in size.
They have been in existence since the system has been installed and I have tried to access them but they are too large. I have also tried taking the cluster group offline to see if the file stops being updated but the file continues to be updated.
Please could anyone shed any light on this and what can be done to resolve it?
Thanks in advance for any help.
