  • After reinstallation on a new computer program did not start

Why did the program not start after reinstallation on a new computer????

If my memory serves me correctly you can only have Aperture 3 installed on 1 computer at a time so if you have it installed on the original Mac and this new system at the same time it may give you a multiple installations detected warning or something of that nature.
    Best of luck.
That is correct however Aperture does allow multiple installs to allow a user to have Aperture running on one computer at a time. For example a photographer may have a MacPro notebook and and Mac Pro desktop. He can use the license when he's on a shoot in the field using the MBP while the Mac Pro sits dormant at home. The software is sophisticated enough to detect he's trying to run one license on multiple machines simultaneously. I have successfully migrated Aperture myself and use it on my iMac and MacBook Air however as stated only one machine at a time.
The OP mentions the machine is new to him, which complicates matters quite a bit. I hope he got the original media from the seller if he did not then there is a good chance he is running illegal software and was duped by the seller. The OP doesn't say where he got the iMac so I'm assuming he bought it used, if I am correct then this is one the problems of buying used, caveat emptor. If I'm incorrect (like maybe it was a hand-me-down from a relative) then all he needs to do is get the media and key code.
Apple is careful on it's licensing on it's professional software.

DDR3 RAM will not physically fit into slots that are designed for DDR2 RAM, so no, you can't use your MBP RAM in the MacBook. You'll have to buy the right RAM for it.

Yes the Mac can read that drive but you would need to Copy the data off of it to the Mac as apposed to Move, which implies Deleting them from the drive as they were transferred from the external to the Mac. Since the Mac can Not Write to NTFS drives it can't Delete anything as that is really a Write operation, IE Making changes to the NTFS formatted drive.
Once you have that Data on Both your New Mac and you Older Windows PC you can format that drive to work on both system.
If you want to and plan on doing that post back and I'll explane how, it is simple but should be done on a Windows PC.
If you only plan on using it on the Mac from now on that is fairly simple also and is done on the Mac, Once you have the files from it stored on the Mac.
Yes you could burn those photos to DVD but that is just a waste of DVDs, you don't need to.

  • Question about new video card from MSI - R7750-PMD1GD5/OC

    Hello Folks,
I am afraid I can't find an answer to this anywhere, so I have had to post, even though I bet that somewhere, someone has asked this question before !!!!
I changed by Base Unit PC but kept my old monitors because I like them. I run two Acer AL1917's in extended mode.
Well, thats the problem, I did with the old PC which had a graphics card with two DVI outputs and it was easy to do by using two DVI to VGA converters.
However, the new PC has in it an MSI R7750-PMD1GD5/OC which has only one DVI, one HDMI and one Display Port.
Now, I know what the DVI and HDMI Ports are but have no idea what the Display port is!
THE MAIN PROBLEM IS I CAN'T FIND A WAY TO RUN TWO VGA MONITORS IN EXTENDED MODE with these three outputs?
The monitors are VGA ONLY, so is there any way I can use this display card at all to run two vga monitors in extended mode or should I just eBay it !!!
At the moment I have swapped it out for an old Nvidia GeForce GTS 450 which works fine with two DVI's. But I was rather hoping to be able to use my new MSI card.
Is there any way I can do this please?
Many thanks for any help that anyone is able to give.
With best wishes to all for the New Year Ahead,
    Trevor

    Thank you very much.
On order as we speak. !!!!

The only two games I ever play when I have time, probably Easter now, are the aforementioned MSFS and X-Plane !!!!
    Very Sad LOL !!!
Still, we shall see. I didn't know it was as simple as a cable because I always thought vga is anologue and HDMI is Digital, n'er the twain shall mix without a converter LOL
Never mind, I love being proved wrong because it means I have learnt something more in this wonderful life

  • Questions on new XServe

    Apologies for the lengthy post.
We're looking to update an older dual G5 XServe to a new Nehalem model. Our current server handles file sharing (AFP & SMB) and is our OD Master (we have 5 other XServes). It's connected via Fibre to an XServe Raid configured with 4 active drives (250 GB each) and a standby backup drive. It total we have @ 700 GB of usable storage. We have a cloned system drive in the machine, and another offsite. We also have extensive Firewire data backups, including offsite.
We're looking to replace this with a Dual Quad core machine but I'm still mulling over configurations. As the XServe RAID has been removed from the support list, I'm considering removing it from the equation and perhaps just use it for some non critical archiving. It has been wonderfully reliable in the 5 odd years we've had it.
For the new server I was thinking 3x 1TB drives (& Raid Card) which I suspect would give @ 2TB of storage (more than enough for us - the 700 GB is already adequate but if we're going to upgrade we may as well expand a bit as well).
    And now for the questions...
Would I be correct in assuming I could expect similar/better performance from the new drives as opposed to the old XServe RAID? Will the G5 XServe's Fibre Card fit the new XServe?
Are the Solid State Drives user swappable? I was thinking perhaps a second SS drive with a cloned system as a backup.
Can a boot partition be setup on this RAID setup as a backup to the Solid State Drive? What's the general feeling with regards SS Drives? Are they worth considering or should I just stick to 'conventional' technology?
Will these XServes boot OK from a firewire device?
Any advice, suggestions or personal experiences would be appreciated.
    many thanks

Would I be correct in assuming I could expect similar/better performance from the new drives as opposed to the old XServe RAID?
Comparable direct-attached storage (DAS) disk storage tends to be faster than SAN storage, yes.
And you can connect DAS via SAS or SAS RAID PCIe controller, an older PCI-X controller, or via FireWire or USB buses. PCIe disk interconnects will be the fastest path, and USB the slowest.
Here, I'd tend to consider the Apple RAID controller or a PCIe RAID controller if I needed extra bays.
Will the G5 XServe's Fibre Card fit the new XServe?
I don't know. That probably depends on the card, but it's certainly worth a try. Ensure you have the right slot in the new box; you've probably got a PCI-X FC SAN card here, and you'd thus need a PCI-X riser on the new box. Or punt and get a newer PCIe FC SAN card. Put another way, I'd ask Apple to confirm your particular card will work when carried forward, or wait for another responder here.
Are the Solid State Drives user swappable? I was thinking perhaps a second SS drive with a cloned system as a backup.
The Xserve drive bays are user swappable.
Do you need SSD? If you're on your current box and are not already I/O bound, I'd guess not. And the newer HDD drives are faster, too.
Can a boot partition be setup on this RAID setup as a backup to the Solid State Drive? What's the general feeling with regards SS Drives? Are they worth considering or should I just stick to 'conventional' technology?
There is flexibility in what you boot your Xserve box off of, yes.
I've been using SSD off and on for around twenty years in its various incarnations. Back when there was battery-backed DSSI drives (don't ask) and SCSI-1 RAM-based SSD gear.
Whether SSD is appropriate really depends on what you need for I/O rates. An SSD is one piece of a puzzle of gaining faster I/O, and some of the other available pieces can be faster disks, striping (RAID-0), faster controllers, or faster controllers with bigger caches, or more and larger host caches. If your applications are disk-bound, definitely consider it. But if you're not being limited by the disk I/O speeds for your box, then SSD doesn't (usually) make as much sense.
(There are other cases where SSD can be appropriate. SSD is more tolerant of getting bounced around than HDD, which is why you see it in laptops and in rough-service and mil-spec environments such as aircraft-mounted computer servers. With an HDD, one good head-slap can ruin your whole day. But I digress.)
Will these XServes boot OK from a firewire device?
AFAIK, yes. I haven't had to do that, but that's been a longstanding feature of Xserve boxes.
Any advice, suggestions or personal experiences would be appreciated.
I'd relax; the Nehalem-class processors are screaming-fast boxes, and with massively better I/O paths than Intel has had available before.
Ensure your LAN is Gigabit Ethernet or IEEE 802.11n 5 GHz dual-slot, too. Upgrade from any existing 100 Mb LAN and from pre-n WiFi networking.

  • ECC 6.0 Questions on New Business Partner Standard Address Functionality.

    Hello.
We are upgrading our client from 4.72 to ECC6.0 and in the UAT testing phase.
Where before in 4.72 the Standard Mailing address was determined by a simple radio button, it appears that they have gone to a time dependent type of format which is causing issues with our client.
I have a few questions surrounding this piece.
    1) Enabling 'Address Usage' : On the  Address Overview Tab in FPP2/FPP3, How can we enable the  'Address Usage' box that is under the 'Address Overview' Box?
    2) Determining Standard Address on Address Overview:  For accounts brought over in the upgrade, the Valid From/Valid To Dates on the Address Overview are defaulted 01/01/0001 to 12/31/9999.  How can the user now tell which is the default address without having to go to the Address Tab?
    3)  Reversing Standard Address Change:  Our client has a business scenario that occurs often in which the a customer may call in to change their Standard mailing address.  Then the customer calls back at a later time and decides they wanted to reverse back to the original address.  We have gone through this scenario using the Move button to move in the new address, which changes the standard address, then subsequently use the Move > Reverse functionality.  It appears to change the on the Address overview tab but does not save on the Address Tab.
    4) Effective Date Change:  In 4.72 the client had the ability to change any characteristic of the BP on a certain day.  For example wanting to change the Standard address, Name, Phone on a day in the future.  So they would pick that day in the future, and the planned change would occur on that day.  We cannot find that functionality in the current ECC 6.0.
Any guidance would greatly be appreciated!  Thanks in advance!
    Regards,
    Eric

    Hi Nick,
Did you get the answer? I'm lookinf for the same information about profiles.

  • Question about new BIOS on Satellite L20-182

    Hi :)
I've got one question: may I install new BIOS 2.20 on my Satellite L20-182 model no. PSL2XE?
If I can't, why users PSL2X can do this? Are there so many differences on both models?
Greetings and sorry for my English - I'n not the best :)

    Hi,
just for explanation: the bios you mentioned is the right bios for the machine. Toshiba is not writing the full model number since there is a range of model numbers of the same model, so dont worry, they are not different. Maybe the last digit but this is not important for you.
Why I am knowing this? Because many manufacturers are doing this and I was many times confused when updating bioses from another manufacturer...

  • Flashing Question mark: New hard drive not working Macbook Pro late 2008

After following several peoples advice on this forum I decided to upgrade my Macbook Pro late 2008 with a Seagate (1TB) Solid State Hybrid Drive 2.5 inch.
    Heres the device.
    http://www.morecomputers.com/spec.aspx?pn=ST1000LM014
After creating a mountable boot on a External hard drive with Mavericks install I removed the current hard drive and replaced with the new seagate drive. However it didn't seem to recognize the external hard drive (it is quite old but works perfectly) and went to a flashing grey question mark screen and wouldnt do anything else. Ive tried holding down command-r and option-r but I get nothing. Its just the same flashing question mark. I have done this several times and the same result.
I put the old drive back in and it works fine.
I am trying to work out is the problem with the mountable external hard drive OR is it the hard drive is not compatible with my computer?
    Appreciate your help
    Gary

Sorry I think you may be confused.
I am trying to install the new Seagate hard drive to my mac (not as an external hard drive).
I replace the macbook pro hard drive with the seagate drive:
    http://www.morecomputers.com/spec.aspx?pn=ST1000LM014
I then started up the machine with a usb external hard drive with a boot copy of mavericks on it. However, it just displayed a flashing question mark and wouldnt start booting the osx.
I am trying to work out is the problem with the mountable external hard drive OR is it the hard drive is not compatible with my computer? Im guessing it must be hard drive. Would it be better to use a USB pen drive as the external hard drive is quite old?
Does anyone know what the problem could be as the hard drive is brand new.
    Appreciate your help
    Thanks, Gary

  • 8 questions from new owner of Satellite Pro L300

    Hello all forum users!
I bought a new Toshiba laptop, the Satellite Pro L300, and have until 14 January to test it - if it looks like it isn't working properly I'll return it to the store where I purchased it.
    Here's a list of questions I have:
    1. Every time I turn on the laptop or it comes out of suspended or hibernation mode, and when I turn it off, the cd/dvd drive makes a loud mechanical clunky noise.
It sounds to me like the carriage that carries the laser and optics is running into a mechanical stop.
    Is this normal?
    2. There is one hot subpixel on the display (blue) and according to the Toshiba info in the box, this is normal and is not cause for return.
Should I be concerned about this?
    3. When I run the memory test at system boot, it states that it will start windows automatically at test termination, and show me the results of the test.
It runs the test, starts Vista, but I don't see any results report.
Where do I find this report?
Is there a known problem with this test?
    4. The Toshiba utility program to perform diagnostics from within Vista does not work. Every time I run the test (PCdiag.exe) I get a Vista error message saying a fault was found in KERNEL32.dll.
Where can I get a fix for this?
I've already installed the updated files on Toshiba's web site for the 'Value Added Pack', which is where this utility is located, but still get the error message.
    5. I would like to access the bios settings at boot, but haven't found the way to do it yet.
F2 gives me a menu for memory test or normal system boot.
Esc doesn't get me into bios setup either.
There is a Toshiba bios utility I can run from Vista, and from what I see any bios firmware upgrades are also to be done through Vista.
Is there a way to access bios at boot?
    6. I would like to run XP on this system and understood that this model (Pro L300 PSLB1E) was XP compatible, and that I should be able to download all drivers from Toshiba to run on XP.
    Has anyone done this?
    7. The laptop installed and configured Vista basic when I did the first power on, but the license sticker on the bottom of the laptop has a product key for 'Vista Business OEMAct'. I was sold this laptop as having Vista Business with the option to downgrade to XP Pro. The box didn't come with any cds or dvds, and no manuals explaining how to install Vista Business.
This is enough reason to return the laptop to the store where I bought it, which is a hassle I would prefer to avoid if I can install Vista Business.
Can anyone help me understand what is happening here?
    8. Is there a way to contact technical support by email?
Thanks in advance to anybody that can answer any of the above questions!

    > 1. Every time I turn on the laptop or it comes out of suspended or hibernation mode, and when I turn it off, the cd/dvd drive makes a loud mechanical clunky noise.
My CD/DVD drives make similar noise too from time to time. Not always but sometimes. I think this appears because the drives laser lens calibrates in the right position.
    > 2. There is one hot subpixel on the display (blue) and according to the Toshiba info in the box, this is normal and is not cause for return.
Well, you need an certain amount of dead pixels to get a screen replacement
    Please check this FAQ:
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB5400ZD0002R01.htm
    > 3. When I run the memory test at system boot, it states that it will start windows automatically at test termination, and show me the results of the test.
There is no problem. I believe you mean the memory test while POST (power on self test). If there would be a memory fault then your notebook would not boot up properly.
    > 4. The Toshiba utility program to perform diagnostics from within Vista does not work. Every time I run the test (PCdiag.exe) I get a Vista error message saying a fault was found in KERNEL32.dll.
Hmm the Value Added Package contains the PC diagnostic tool for Vista. I would recommend removing the old VAP and reinstalling the new downloaded from the page.
The notebook seems to use the Phoenix BIOS and therefore pressing the F2 button should enable the BIOS. Press the F2 immediately after notebook has been powered up.
    > 6. I would like to run XP on this system and understood that this model (Pro L300 PSLB1E) was XP compatible, and that I should be able to download all drivers from Toshiba to run on XP.
Such XP drivers are placed on the Toshiba European page.

I was sold this laptop as having Vista Business with the option to downgrade to XP Pro. The box didn't come with any cds or dvds, and no manuals explaining how to install Vista Business.
Never hear that this notebook would be delivered with Vista business As far as I know this series has been preinstalled with Vista Home Premium
    > 8. Is there a way to contact technical support by email?
If you have some problems with your notebook you can contact your ASP in your country.

  • Migration Question for New Leopard Mac Mini

Oh my... I have a new Leopard Mac Mini still in the box!
I want to connect it up and migrate my iTunes and iPhoto libraries, etc. to it from my old Mac Mini but here's the thing: my old Mac Mini is a G4, powerpc mac has been through a sort of mini **** lately and at this time will need it's hard disk repaired before I will be able to get it back up to 10.4.11 and Safari 3.0.4. that it had had only last week, before all manner of disasters happened after the last security update. Genius bar made it relatively functional by re-installing the OS but they used 10.4.7 and Safari 2.0.4. to do it! So here is my question: Do I need to get my PPC Mac back up to snuff completely before I can migrate stuff from it to the new Leopard Mac Mini or can I do the migration and get everything nice and lovely on the new machine even though there are still problems on the old Mac Mini?
Here is the problem that the PPC G4 Mac Mini has at this time:
    Verifying volume "Macintosh HD"
    Checking HFS Plus volume.
    Checking Extents Overflow file.
    Checking Catalog file.
    Invalid index key
The volume Macintosh HD needs to be repaired.
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit
    1 HFS volume checked
    Volume needs repair
Would this pose a problem in the migration?
Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much! -Charlotte

The best thing I can say about your post is that at least you realize that Installing Leopard on a broken Tiger and a G4 processor files is exactly how hundreds of the problems are being caused. Too many people have decided that "Apple Just Works" and figure that installing the newest most complex MacOS ever will just work. These people are getting "worked".
Good Luck cleaning up your machine to tip-top shape to 10.4.11, with every update for every program you intend to transfer. Your drive must be squeeky clean, or you will have problems that nobody can explain. I'd recommend removing any applications you don't have to have or that you can reinstall easily with a program like App Zapper and get rid of the G4 system files as much as possible.

  • Key board question on new Imac 24 ?

    quick question,
    about my new Imac keyboard,
my cap light on my keyboard turns off shortly after pressed by itself?
    is this normal??

I THINK you might find that it's just the angle you're looking at it. The light seems to be quite a way beneath the actual key, and shines up through a hole - rather than there being an actual LED in the key itself. I thought mine was brighter when pressed down, but it's just that it's nearer the light source.

  • Selling old iPhone 3g - erased, removed sim questions for new buyer

I have an old 3g that we have service turned off on, i did the erase all content thing and removed the sim, phone restared and said I needed to hook it up to itunes and it needed the sim againput the sim back in, got the phone back to what looks like day one (then removed the sim after itunes set it up as a new phone vs using exsiting restore or backup).
So now the phone has no sim and everything appears to be there in terms of the basic apps nothing i can see has any of my info or history on it.
My question is if I sell this like this how does the new buyer install apps on it thru the app store, i can access wifi and watch youtube stuff but when I tried to install a free app but it just keeps asking for existing or new acct, if they setup a new acct and that 3g has no sim card will they be able to access and download content to it (also if they setup a new acct in itunes can they purchase apps with that too)?
I am pretty tech dumb when it comes to that sort of thing, noting sensitive on the phone realy even before the erase, but if i sell it like this I just didnt want the new buyer to somehow be able to buy apps on my acct (the itunes existing acct stuff is all blank I checked it), but i do want them to be able to get apps on the phone for their own use thru wifi so I am guessing they just have to create their own itunes acct and then even without the sim it would let them grab apps?
Or do they need a sim, if so will att give them a blank or is the phone basically useless without it (I thought I heard never give out my sim even tho the phone is deactivated I wasnt sure on security).
Thanks for anyone who can clear this up for me, don't wanna sell it and find out i didn't follow some rule of safety for my own acct etc.

    Settings > Messages > iMessage > Off
    Settings > FaceTime > Off
Settings > iCloud > (Scroll Down) Delete Account
Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Content and Settings.
In that order and you're good. I've never removed a SIM before selling and I haven't had any problems. Also they would need a new SIM to activate sevice so any potential for your information going to the device after sold is gone.
    Hope that helps
