Reliable Service? You're Kidding me

All three of my Verizon services went down last night (phone, tv and internet).  After calling Verizon, they figured out the problem is on THEIR end, and yet they will not fix it until Thursday night.  Over three days without service of any kind, and they can't get a technician out any sooner?  And yet, the word "reliable" is all over Verizon's public relations missives.  What am I missing here?  How can any reputable company just leave their customers without service for so long?  Cablevision can switch me over to their service by tomorrow at 11am.  Bye bye Verizon.  If only Verizon cared...even a little bit...but they don't.

Users who have Acrobat 9 Pro as part of the CS5 collections cannot use the upgrade for the point product.
I don't understand... I don't need and would'nt have any use of a second copy of Acrobat Pro. I aldeady have One, paid 6 weeks ago (on the 12/02/2011) at 199$. If I remember correctly, the Acrobat 9 Pro I had was bought as I upgraded from CS3 to CS3.3. And I upgraded to CS4, then CS5... And I saw a touring show from a team from Adobe, in Montreal about all the marvelous thing Acrobat X was to do... last december. So I decided to pay the 200$ for the upgrade.
I have been pouring good money in the last 5 years into Adobe's pocket... and I was not complaining because I did feel there was some fair play : I was not forced to upgrade and when I choose to, I had for something my money.
Now there is something fudged into this Acrobat Pro thing that is sometime include and sometime not include into the bundle... What do I have now, with my lonely upgraded copy of Acrobat... ? Something I will just throw away when I upgrade to 5.5 or 6 ?
This is not the kind of service and intelligence I am accustomed from Adobe. Too big ? The machine already too hungry ?? It's a shame.

    The Scenario:
    JUST installed Leopard Server onto clean Mac mini hard drive. Setup two User accounts (one to use and one just in case). Repaired Disk Permissions. Rebooted. Ran Software Update, let it install a slew of things, including 10.5.2 update. Rebooted. Repaired Disk Permissions. Rebooted. Ran Software Update again. Let it install a handful of new updates. Rebooted. Repaired Disk Permissions. Rebooted.
    At Login Window I get the freakin' window shaking its head that it doesn't like either my username or its password. Tried the second User account that I set up "just in case", didn't like it either. Finally logged in as "localadmin" and am typing this here now.
    What. The. Heck?
    This is the 5th time Leopard Server has done this to me. And, as you can see, I did NOTHING out of line this time (not that I did the other 4 times...) and I get the "can't login" problem almost immediately.
    Is it just me or does Leopard Server suck?

    I did an update to 10.5.3 using the stand-alone installer and, after the delay and restarts Apple warned about, I was presented with the Blue Screen Of Death (BSOD). After an hour and confirmation of no hard drive head movement for at least two minutes, I forced a shut down with the power button. Restarted fine and web back on line. Not a confidence-inspiring update. Actually, it's the first time I've seen Server updates do this.
    Then there's Mail. It's now even worse than in 10.5.2. It did not work in 10.5.0, or 10.5.1, or 10.5.2. I was so hoping that Apple would finally make this service work. No such luck. 'Upgrading' turned off SMTP incoming, and there's no way to get it on. Every time I click the button and Save, the button simply unchecks itself.
    In my 26 years as an exclusively Apple user (bigot, actually), I've NEVER seen Apple release software as insanely, woefully buggy as Leopard Server. I've seen a few iffy Apple software products, but never anything even approaching this. I'm told that Tiger Server is way better, but my licence is for Leopard.
    The upgrade notes do not speak of ANY of the bugs I've reported in Mail since 10.5.0, and there's (naturally) no indication the the upgrade may kill Mail, which it does in my case.
    Where does one go to get one's money back, and where does one send the invoice for all the time Apple has wasted by non-consensually making me a beta (alpha) tester of the (ahem) 'bullet-proof, enterprise-level' product? Does Apple not understand that our businesses are at stake, because we base our businesses on reliable, enterprise capable software? Given my experiences with Leopard Server, I just don't see how Apple can claim Server is remotely suitable for enterprise use.
    Grrrr.

  • How do you stop kids deleting videos and music from ipad

    Hi,
    I'm able to check a box in restrictions so apps aren't deleted but there is no similar function to select for music and videos.
    I'm Getting fed up with my special needs kids being able to accidentally delete them.. its happened twice today, 25GB of videos accidentally were removed.
    How can we lock them so they can not be deleted?
    If there is no function, perhaps Apple needs to create one.

    You can make a password protected folder of the apps your children use to access music and videos so they are not on the screen. They will not have access to music or videos. But I'm sure your problem is they want to see videos, hear music, etc. ...
    If they don't have them, maybe they'll lose interest and play with games specified for them. Even then, though, they can probably delete those, too.
    To my knowledge there are no apps to prevent your children from deleting music and videos. However, you are not alone. You might want to google it. If enough parents inforn Apple... Look what they've been doing for vision, hearing impaired, users with physical mobility problems, people on the autism spectrum, and others with learning issues/disabilities, etc. Here are a couple of ipad parents with similar questions/requests.

    If your ipad 2 is older than 90 days you do not have phone support. If more than a year, it's out of warranty. If you're near a genius bar make an appointment. Otherwise, I suggest the following solution.

  • 3 months of the worst service you could imagine (a...

    I initially placed an order for BT broadband back at the beginnning of Feb 2015, placing the order online to take advantage of the offer including a discounted period, free BT Sports and a Sainsburys voucher (the offer expired the next day).
    After a few days I was contacted by BT to say there had been a problem with the order and it would need to be cancelled and they would place it agian - I asked if the terms of the order (ie the offers) would be the same as the end date would have now passed and was told that it would.
    The order was clearly not placed correctly as I had selected to pay the 12 months line rental up front to take advantage of the saving that offered. However, I saw that I was being billed. Yes, they had cocked it up. I then paid the 12 months rental and was told I would be refunded any charges for this and also for the Internet up to the date it was sorted out as I was not receiving the service I was paying for.
    Additionally, I saw calls being charged for as the order was placed with weekend calls and I wanted eveing and weekend calls. Again, this could not be resolved now as the order would have to be completed first.
    Next came a long period of being told that the account was setup, although my Internet connection was only providing me with anything between 0.5 and 1.8MB downloads (1.8 was a rarity).
    I was contacted every 3-4 days to be told that there was a problem that was being worked on and would be resolved soon - they would contact me in a couple of days to udpate me.
    Before the Easter weekend I was called to say it should all be setup and could I test things. When I got home I rebooted the router to find that I now had no connection at all - not even the painfully slow one I had been suffereing for the last couple of months. When I called to report this I was told that in fact there was still a problem and I should not have been told it was sorted - also, nothing would be looked at for 5 days as it was the Easter weekend.
    After this I started to get some different stories about why things were not being setup properly. Apparently there was an issue with my account which meant that the broadband services could not be attached to my phone line so it did not show up as active and would not let the engineers completed tests (I have had sit through the generic scripts and tests so many times it is beyond belief).
    I was told that the order would need to be cancelled and a new one placed so that a new account would be generated to allow the broadband to be setup correctly.
    No problem for me I thought, so long as this gets sorted out.
    But no, BT could not do that as there would be charges for ending the contract early!?
    Next step was to send an engineer to the house. Finally someone who seemed to actually know what they were doing - he is the ONLY member of BT staff that I could recommend to anyone else. He saw first hand that my fault was real and fixed it.
    He replaced some old cables that he said could be causing a problem, but he also ran into the account setup issue when trying to get the line speed enabled. However, he said that the people he was speaking to on the end of the line were able to do this in a different system.
    BINGO! We now have 8MB (well, almost - but a lot better the the averge 1MB we were receiving before). We can finally view iPlayer etc.
    With the order now complete I decided I would call to get my charged refunded and follow up on the voucher that was part of the offer I signed up for.
    Another 40 minute call to the braindead customer servuce staff in the call centre proved fruitless. I was asked to tell them the date and time of the call in which I was told that I would be refunded the charges. What? I guess I've had over 60 calls with BT over the last 3 months, many of them leaving my frustrated and stressed out.
    She said that as there had been usage on my broadband that there was not a problem (I'd heard that one before when I was told there was not a problem) and that I am therefore not entitled to any form of refund or compensation. Sorry but 0.5MB (or no access at times) in no way consistutes a broadband service.
    What I want to for someone at BT with a brain, the ability to read the the long history of the issues here and the authority to actually carry out the required actions to deal with this. I cannot call the customer service line again without going insane!
    I've cancelled my dorect debit so no more money can be stolen from me; of course I instantly received a call from BT to ask why and be told I had to set a new one up - I also got an email from the mythical Libby Barr (but sorry, I no longer read emails I cannot reply to).
    So BT, find someone who will sort this mess out once and for all and let me stay dealing with that one person until there are no more problems.
    The moderators should have my email address (which is the same for my BT account) so you know how to contact me or pass on to a useful person within BT (I assume there must be some somewhere!).

    Firstly they said I didn't have a line. Sent me an email saying that I needed an installation. I called them from the line I am using now!!! I ordered BT BB Unlimited. They gave me option one....it took 7 months for the **bleep** to put me on unlimited  - They said it (my contract) would be back dated to the original date of BB connection. Cool! NO NOT COOL. I cancel the service and moved out and they want to charge me for the 7 months their screw up cost me! I had no refunds in that time for extra BB use I paid for. They are CROOKS! simple as that - take me to court I have every voice call recorded and e-mails from the Indian help desk - who apparently are are not allowed to send emails. Don't back down to these idiots - they are losing when they take me to court and I will go all the way!

  • Customize keyboard shortcuts to services (you created)

    I created a service with automator... I just want to assign a keyboard shortcut to it. How do I do that!?
    Once I create the service it shows up in [keyboard > keyboard shortcuts > Services > General] with no shortcut assigned to it... there is no option to assign a shortcut to it, double clicking it does nothing. There's no button to edit or anything. Am I missing something?

    Actualy there is.  Double click to the far right of it.
    Now you can enter the key combination to be assigned to that sevice.

  • You're kidding me... I have to pay for Acrobat X upgrade TWICE???

    I own CS 5 and purchased the Acrobat X Pro upgrade in December. Now I see CS5.5 prominently features Acrobat X yet there is no discount for people who already OWN Acrobat X and paid $199 for that privilege just 4 short months ago. The customer service rep I spoke to said there was no discount for people who already bought Acrobat X Pro and, sensing my rising blood pressure, suggested that I could sell the previous Acrobat X Pro upgrade to offset the cost. Yeah, why didn't I think of that. ...jerk.
    So, people, don't ever let Adobe tempt you with an "off cycle" Acrobat upgrade if you own a CS. You'll just have to pay for it twice. Sorry Adobe, I will hold on to my money and wait for CS 6, if that is what you really want me to do.
    Very disappointing. And a lesson learned.

  • Is it just me or is MobileMe simply not delivering a reliable service?

    iPhone/.Mac/Mac are not syncing as sweetly as the Apple propaganda assured me they would. I appreciate they have admitted it isn't quite a 'push' service and have explained a small delay is to be expected. After a full day of adding diary dates onto my iPhone, I come home to find my mac with the same vacant expression as a teenager at 7am in the morning. Changing a contact on iPhone doesn't register on my Mac at all and forcing a sync has recently thrown up a complete load of rubbish about not being a .mac subscriber.
    I'm finding the service woefully poor and the lack of support (email support for MobileMe not running, telephone only to U.S. at U.S. times) very frustrating.
    I hope they sort it out before my 'extra free month's worth of subscription' runs out or I'll... stamp my feet and gnash my teeth at no one in particular because the nearest Apple employees are 120 miles away in London selling more iPhones that don't work.
    Am I alone?

    I think it might be sorted. Check that you follow the steps from the apple blog. I have a list of things that happened to me this evening posted here from when I started to check if they have it fixed. It works well for me now but I had to navigate between the two calendars where I had one before. It now does work.

    Folks:
    I am having an issue with a system, which is throwing a really odd error message. When the user tries to modify the AD group, they receive the following error message:
    “You do not have permission to modify the group”, which is then followed by what appears to be Chinese or Japanese characters. In addition, the characters
    randomly change, which makes me believe the characters are ASCII values or equivalent, not specific values for any coherent words provided by installed language packages.
    Has anyone seen this issue before? If so can you offer any advice?

    This issue can be caused due to the permissions under Security tab are modified incorrectly.
    Please use delete control wizard to reassign the permissions or correct the permissions under Security tab manually.

  • Hyperion Reports Scheduler stopped working after 4 years of reliable servic

    Hello,
    I'm puzzled by this, but today at 4:00 AM, the scheduler stopped working. I tried to manually restart the service to no avail. I rebooted the server, nothing. I reinstalled Reports (but selected retain configuration), yet nothing. I'm perplexed as this has been working without issues for 4 years. Next step is to check whether the IT group did a patch upgrade of the OS and may have caused this.
    If anyone has an idea, pls forward. Many thanks.

    schedule.xml must be deleted if it reaches 8 megs. Surprised that Hyperion did not come with something more intuitive.
