Relocating 'source' photos to new network location???

I have all of my family's photos on my Time Capsule (in a specific folder). The TC is almost full so I am am moving all my media to a new NAS device and dedicating my TC to backups. They are on a network drive so that they can be access by multiple users across multiple computers.
When setting up iPhoto I imported the photos on the Time Capsule with the "Copy items to the iPhoto library" option UNCHECKED so I would not fill up my local hard disk with duplicates.
If I just move all the photos from the TC to the new NAS then iPhoto will complain that it can't find the photos any more. Is there any way I can update the library to get it to look for the photos in the new location? I do not want to lose all of the events, albums, places and faces by having to reimport them all again. (I have 4 users across three computers to update) I will be in deep doggie doo from one particular user if everything is lost.

- my account and my wife's account on both iMac and MacBook share a common library
That's four Users on Two machines.
The only way to do what you want is to put the Library on an external disk - USB or FIrewire.
This disk needs to be formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled), and set to ignore File Permissions.
To move the Library:
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library. Do this from each machine and each account in turn.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
Next Up: Connecting to it:
A strong warning: If you're trying to edit the Library (that is, make albums, move photos around, keyword, make books or slideshows etc.) or edit individual photos in it via Wireless be very careful. Dropouts are a common fact of wireless networking, and should one occur while the app is writing to the database then your Library will be damaged. Simply, I would not do this with my Libraries.
If you're viewing and so on the a Wireless Connection is fine.

I want to set up my time capsule on a completely new network & location without losing the old backups. How do I do this? I cannot find anything in the user manual.

The TC is very hard to just move.. it retains too much of the old network setup.. buried deep in the bowels of the firmware configuration files.. or even on the hard disk special partitions used by the TC.. invisible to you btw.. !!
Do a factory reset and setup from scratch.
That factory reset will have no affect on your backups.. even if you rename the TC.. not a bad things since you also want clients to respond to the new network.. simply reset TM to the new TC name and location.
    See A4 here.
    http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
    Factory reset.
    The Factory Reset Gen1-4.
Unplug your TC. Hold in reset. and power the TC back on.. without releasing reset for about 10sec. When the status light flashes rapidly; release it.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
    Factory reset Gen 5
Hold in reset for about 5sec until the status light flashes quickly.
If your AirPort Time Capsule still doesn’t respond, do a similar reset to the Gen1-4.
Unplug your AirPort Time Capsule .. hold in reset and power the TC back on.. without releasing the reset.. wait until status led flashes rapidly.

  • New Network Locations Being Created on Their Own

I'm having an interesting problem with the Network Location feature.
About 70% of the time I wake my MBP or turn it on, it does not automatically reconnect to my preferred wireless network, and it automatically creates a new network location based on the date and time. I then have to manually select my wireless network.
What ends up happening over a couple months is that I get tons of locations that I have to manually get rid of. They look like this:
    Location (10/4/08 2:35PM)
    Location (9/28/08 10:09AM)
    Location (9/26/08 8:34PM)
etc etc - hundreds of these!
And instead of staying on Automatic, where my mac remembers my home network, it selects the most recent location and I always have to manually reconnect to my home air port network and type in my password.
    Some other facts about this:
    - This been happening since 10.5.4, and continues since I updated to 10.5.5
    - I've tried permissions repairs and zapping the PRAM.
    - I started out just having the network set to automatic, air port as the highest networking service order, then ethernet, remembering any wireless network that I join. A very normal and basic setup, and this problem just crops up and won't go away.
Is there a specific preference file for this that I should try trashing?
Any help and suggestions would be much appreciated!

    Hi ,
The default mode of Forms is the insert mode.... This means that-in all the cases except when you have set your form in query mode-your form is ready to insert data if of course you have typed some values in the text fields or selected from a list item e.t.c. . In other words , your block(s) are marked as new...
That happens in your situation .. when you select the PROD1 and PROD2 afterwards, the block containing the master block is marked as new and the detail block as new , as well.....because of the master-detail connection through the use of primary-foreign key....
In order to avoid this annoying message "value must be entered" , you can:
Set the Required property of the item-which is the primary key- to "No".

  • How do I set up different network locations with different wifi?

I am having an issue setting up different network locations with different wifi profiles on each. I want to do this to enable fast switching of wireless networks. In my house I have two wireless networks, my own personal one and one that is created by using a wifi modem supplied by my company. If I use the company wifi network then I can get into all my work applications without having to enable VPN access separately. It is also faster. However, they also block many applications including sending email from my personal email account, dropbox, etc. So throughout the day I need to switch wireless networks back and forth.
I was looking for a faster way to switch and thought I would try network locations. Was able to set up a new network location without issue. However it seems that whatever wireless preferences, changes, or wifi network order I put into my "Work" location it carries over to my other location which is the standard "Automatic".
What I would like it to have my "Work" location only to be able to connect to my work wifi and my other network (Automatic) to just connect to my home wifi only. That way I can enable faster wifi switching and can even use my launcher program (Alfred) to provide shortcuts.
    Anyway to do this?
Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Just thought I would bump this up in the conversation. Doing a further search I came across this discussion which is similar: Connecting to a wireless network via applescript?
However, I tried to build the Automator application as discussed and cannot get it to work. Very much a novice at Applescript and Shell Script but have created customized Automator services before. All I get now is "Shell Script command encountered an error". No more detail. I copied and pasted the script as shown in the email thread. Is there any other line or command I need to place in front of it?
    Thanks again for any help

  • Network locations and Airport connection

I've just installed Leopard on my MacBook Pro (late 2008) and did all the software updates (including AirPort Extreme Update 2008-004 which - as I found out too late - seems to cause a lot of problems).
Network System Preferences show funny beaviour: Every time I try to switch off AirPort connection for a new network location the network location will disappear completely and settings will switch back to the last active network location. So it is impossible to create a network location with AirPort inactive.
Apart from that, my System does not connect to my AirPort Base Station (Dual Ethernet, 802.11b) wireless LAN (not public, WEP-encrypted, MAC address filter). My other Macs (OS X 10.4 Tiger) connect to the AirPort wireless LAN without any problems. (I double-checked all the settings of course.)
Has anybody had similar problems? Thanks for your help.

I also have an old g4 with 10.4.11
The g4 works perfectly in recognizing the airport network and is up and running in no time. no problems.. the macbookpro with leopard has problems recognizing and logging in tothe the same router. it needs help or I just i there waiting. there is no set way of getting it back to working. but I tend to go into network preferences and it says airport logged on but no connection. the g4 is happy and set up. I then turn off airport and turn it on. eventually I am back and running just fine but do not go to sleep or close the machine cheers
ps. I work from locations with different routers and different isp's same problems......
therefore it must leopard...(or the airport card in the machine)

  • Create/ Rename Network Location via ARD

I have been trying to figure out how to setup a new network location for all of my client computers (55 of them) without having to manually access the machines (either physically or remotely).
The command "networksetup" is supposed to be able to do this according to this page: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=RemoteDesktop/3.0/en/ARDC880.html
Can anyone help me out here?
    Cheers,

Do you know of any references?
I found location information in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist
Could I use PlistBuddy to write the information needed to describe a location? From the scutil man page, I don't know how I'd use that command, but I'm open to learning. I just need to know where to find the documentation.
    Thanks for your replies.

  • SAP Mobile app Stock photo not work for network location

    Hi Experts
I found if we use network location path (e.g.
servername\pic folder\) in SAP Business One General Settings -> Path, Picture Folder, then if we logon SAP B1 Mobile app from iPad/iPhone, and try to open stock photo, we will get error:
    Processing Failed
Internal server error: contact your system administrator
It looks like it only work for local path, e.g C:\pic
Even we put path as :
local pc name\pic folder, it is also not work.
    Any idea about this?
    Thanks

The first link is a temporary fix for a machine that only one or two people will use. This will not fix the Library Machines that some 3000 users can use at anytime. I can not pre-add all these users every time we image a machine. We also loan out laptops and I need these machine to wirelessly login dynamically to the domain. But I also need these machine to allow access if these machine are removed from our campus and the wireless access is not available.
Thank again for the help and I hope someone at Apple can fix this soon. I going to have a hard time telling the client that thay can not use the OS that came with they're machine.

  • New Server 2012 -- Network Location Awareness & Power Failure

Could you try setting up a dependency or delay on the boot? This would be more of a temporary solution, but should help you confirm that the only issue was with communication with the DC.

Hello everyone,This is kind of a mixed question of AD/Domain/GPO, Server 2012 R2 Standard, Windows 7 clients, and File Sharing.. please bare with me.We had an interesting event this morning..We have a 2012 R2 STD member file server on the domain. We had a total power failure, and I believe the file server came up faster than any domain controller. Anyhow, we couldn't access the shares on the server. Upon further investigation, I saw that the network location on the file server was 'unknown' and decided to restart the server. After that, it went back to its domain profile. Are there any known solutions to this scenario? Can I force the server to use the domain profile at all times? I've briefly read about the local GP edit trick, but haven't tried it out yet. Apparently, you can allow changes to adapter profiles, and then manually set...

  • Importing more than one file at a time from a network location

I can import a song at a time from my old networked location, but I have hundreds of songs to import. I can't seem to find out how to do this at least an album at a time. When importing from a CD it'll do the whole cd. I would like to import the whole group the same way I was able to import a whole folder of photos into Iphoto. Can anyone tell me how to do this?
Brand spankin' new Mac user.....just switched from PC to MacBook Pro.

Either use finder to drag and drop those tracks onto
"Library" in iTunes' left "Source" column or from
iTunes Menu Files use "Add to Library ..." then
navigate to a folder that keep a yoru tracks and
    select that folder.
This did it! I was doing an "import" which would only let me do one song at a time. But the "add to library" and the drag and drop both worked. Thanks!!!

  • Migration of Crystal Reports Server XI to new network server

We are running CR Server XI on an older network server that is becoming unstable.   We would like to migrate CR Server and all its reports to a newer network server.
Given that there are around 200 reports published and being run from its current location, is there any way to easily move the program and reports?    Any easy way to mass-change the ODBC database server info which is present in all these reports?

I wrote this a couple years ago and you may want to open a message with the deployment team to verify or get updated steps.
But this used to work fine when the version/patchwere the same in source/destination and was much faster then the import wizard.
you can migrate the CMS database from the CCM by selecting the copy from data source.
    **CMS Source**
    1) Prior to copying the CMS database it's easiest to simply disable auditing on the source CMS database to avoid errors on the destination.
    **CMS Destination**
    2) Create a CMS database or instance for the destination
    3) Stop the CMS and all other services (page, cache, etc)
    4) Double click on the CMS
    5) Select the configuration tab
    6) Choose copy from datasource
    7) Click specify on the CMS Data source
    8) Select source CMS database (make sure middle ware i.e. ODBC connection is installed)
    9) Select destination CMS database
    **CMS Source**
    10) Stop CMS and all other services (page, cache, etc)
    **CMS Destination**
    11) Start the CMS
    12) Login to CMC select servers, delete all servers associated with the source CMS if they exist
    13) Stop CMS on the destination server
    14) Double click CMS on the destination server
    15) Select the configuration tab
    16) Select the change CMS cluster name to (and choose your server or cluster)
    17) Run regedit
    18) Go to HKEYLocalMachine\Software\Businessobjects\suite 11.5\Enterprise\CMSClustermembers
    19) Ensure that only the proper members are defined (i.e. your computer name only or your cluster members only). Remove anything that was added from the source system
    **CMS Source**
    20) Restart the CMS and all other services (page, cache, etc)
    21) Login to CMC select servers, delete all servers associated with the destination CMS if they exist
    22) Go to HKEYLocalMachine\Software\Businessobjects\suite 11.5\Enterprise\CMSClustermembers
    23) Ensure that only the proper members are defined (i.e. your computer name only or your cluster members only). Remove anything that was added from the destination system
    **CMS Destination**
    24) Delete any directories in the businessobjects\businessobjects 115\filestore
    25) Copy your FRS from the source businessobjects\businessobjects 115\filestore to businessobjects\businessobjects 115\filestore on the destination

  • How do I import old photos into new iPhoto library?

I have a new macbook pro running iphoto 11.  I am trying to import my photos onto the new computer from my old computer, running iphoto 8.  I mounted the old computer as a hard disk, but when I go to import the photos into new iphoto library on the new computer, the old iphoto library is "grayed" out under the users/pictures/iphoto location.
How do I transfer the photos?

To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.

  • Photos on a network drive

    Hi,
I have over 10gb of photos on my Network Hard drive at home. I recently bought my first Macbook.
When I opened iPhoto, I dragged 1 folder to iPhoto and it worked great. Then I realized that my photos were copied from the network drive to my macbook.
Is there a way to keep the photos on the network drive and to have iPhoto read them directly from the network without having to copy them on my macbook? (I want to save space on my macbook)
If not, can this be done if I purchase an external hard drive and plug it via usb/Thunderbolt and put all my photos on it?!
Thank you for your help !

Is there a way to keep the photos on the network drive and to have iPhoto read them directly from the network without having to copy them on my macbook? (I want to save space on my macbook)
    Yes but don't. It's unreliable.

    Yes.
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)

  • Manage-bde command is not generating recovery key on network location

    Hi,
I am trying to save the recovery key to the network share location and start up key in the USB drive while enabling bit locker. When the OS drive gets encrypted, the default folder for recovery password shows that it contains 1 file but not getting anything
inside it when i checked the properties of the folder.
i have already changed the group policy as "choose default folder for recovery password".
I am using the command to enable the bit-locker as "manage-bde.exe -on C: -rk
<network location to save recovery key> -sk <location of the USB drive>
-rp to enable the bit-locker. It is generating the start up key in the USB but not the recovery key on network share.
Can anyone suggest what i am missing or what else i should do to generate the recovery key on network share.
Does manage-bde process be able to save the recovery key on network share or it hand over to some other process to perform this task.
    Thanks
    Gaurav Ranjan

I got you Manoj, but I want to ask you one think that what if i lost the startup  key or my USB stick. I have my recovery key on the network share.  In order to log-in my machine I need the recovery password. From where i will get the recovery
password(48 digit). Surely from the recovery key on the network share. So how can i get the recovery password if only we have the recovery key.
I know both are different in context. Both are two different thing. I have lost my USB stick along with the recovery password and I have to log-in my machine. How can i do that i want to know that. Do there is any method to get recovery password from the
recovery key on network share. I have retrieved the recovery password when the recovery key in AD. But this time it is on network share.
Also one think which I need to solve is that the manage-bde -protectors -add command creates a new .bek file along with the older one. So the .bek file which get shown at the time of the start up of the machine is different from that stored in the network.
So i am getting confused as which .bek file is for which machine and hard to retrieve the password.
Is there any method to store recovery key on network without the -protectors -add command line so that both the .bek file should be matched and can easily be known for indiviual machine in an OU. As if both the .bek files will be different it would be difficult
to to retrieve the recovery password for the machines.
Please do inform if you need some more information about the scenario if i missed something.
    Thanks

  • Photos imported to wrong location in LR 2.3

I am trying to import/add to catalog a folder(Commencement 052309) to my Photos folder on new external drive (H). I select a subfolder(Jake graduation) in the Photos folder as import location, but the folder of images is imported to the root level of LR instead. I check the destination drive in Explorer, and there has indeed been a folder of images added to the correct subfolder in the Photos folder (but not the root level of LR). See screenshots for reference - it's as if LR cannot see them in that location. I try using Update Folder Location, but am told folder already exists in the desired destination.
Before this problem occurred I successfully copied folders/updated LR folder location to the new drive from 2 other drives. In the process I removed a third external drive as well (and a folder titled "Lightroom" was probably on it). I checked and there is a similar Lightroom folder in C:\Documents and Settings\Jim\My Documents\My Pictures. This folder contains the .lrcat, .lrdata, etc. files. Could LR be confused about the newest drive? This is where I store all my photos.
    Thanks

You're using Windows, so, in Lr right click on the folder named "Commencement 052309". A context menu like that shown in the screen shot should appear. Try clicking on the menu option "Promote subfolders" or that doesn't work try "Update folder location". Choosing the later option means that you have to locate the proper location, but since Lr uses Explorer/Finder dialogs this should be fairly easy.

  • How to move the iTunes library to a Windows 7 network location?

    I use Windows 7 and iTunes 11.1.11.
I use a hard disk over my home network that is currently mounted on Windows via ftp using the default "Add a network location" option in Windows Explorer, so the content of the drive is listed as a folder under "Network location". File access / creation / deletion works just fine with other programs.
However, when I try to move my iTunes library to the network folder (Edit --> Preferences --> Advanced), I get an error saying "The folder name is not valid".
I don't care much if I have to mount the NAS differently on Windows or if I have to recreate my iTunes library, but it would be nice to finally manage my Music on the network drive.
Thanks to anyone who knows what I'm doing wrong!

If you hold down the option key when starting iTunes, it will allow you to select a library or create a new one.
You can create a new one, and then add all of your iTunes music back in by simply dragging the old iTunes music file onto iTunes.
There are more detailed instructions at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451#
It will show you how to re-build your iTunes database file.
