Reminder: JMX-FORUM mailing list

Hi,
</p>Readers of this web forum might like to know that there is a mailing list called <code>[email protected]</code> with over 1000 subscribers. To subscribe to the forum, send an email message to [email protected] with an empty subject and this line in the body:</p>
<p><code>subscribe jmx-forum <i>firstname lastname</i></code></p>
<p>for example:</p>
<p><code>subscribe jmx-forum Eamonn McManus</code></p>
<p>You must be subscribed to the mailing list to be able to send messages to it.</p>
<p>A searchable archive of the forum, dating back to late 1999, can be consulted at http://archives.java.sun.com/jmx-forum.html.
You do not need to be subcribed to the mailing list to read the archives.</p>
<p>Discussions on the mailing list tend to be more detailed than is easily managed on a web forum such as this one.</p>

The core problem here is authentication. Email cannot be authenticated (without another mechanism anyway), which is why it's such a pain to avoid spam on mailing lists. Anyone can put anything in the 'from' header, and the mailing list will happily replicate it and send it out to everyone if that 'from' address was on the subscribed list.
So a read-only mailing list version of the forum works fine, but implementing some way of being able to post to the list and have that reflected on the forum is a mess and a half. I don't think there is an elegant solution either, you could use gpg signing or some other public key crypto scheme to do sane authentication, but it wouldn't scale very well since the server-side resource usage is somewhat high.
Anyhow... interesting problem to solve.

  • New Discussions forum/mailing list request

    To whom would I address a request to make a new Discussions group (here on discussions.apple.com) and/or an email list from lists.apple.com?
    I would like to see a new forum (or forums) in iTunes for programmers. Perhaps one for Macintosh and one for Windows. This forum would be for programmers who are trying to write programs that interact with iTunes through the Apple-provided APIs, and would like assistance.
    There doesn't seem to be an existing forum or mailing list for these kinds of questions.

    To whom would I address a request to make a new
    Discussions group (here on discussions.apple.com)
    and/or an email list from lists.apple.com?
    This is the right place to ask for a new forum. There is one already for developers in general:
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=727
    If it is assistance from Apple you are seeking rather than from other developers, I think the channel would probably be
    http://developer.apple.com/

  • Text in Mail list is cut off

    Using MacBook Pro, OS10.7. The bottom of text is cut off in Mail list. An example is included.

    Why should I start a new thread if this one was never resolved and I am still having the same problem?
    ANYWAY,
    I was able to fix this by finding an answer on a different forum.
    Simply increase the text leading using the text format option, like so:
    var format:TextFormat = new TextFormat();
    format.leading = 2;
    field_txt.defaultTextFormat=format;

  • Retrieving mailing  lists by connecting to LDAP(windows AD)

    Hi All,
    I have crunch requirement, for retrieving mailing lists and the members in the list fromwindows ad(ldap) .The mailing group location and mailing group name are the serach parameters.
    Required help on the same.
    (a code sample is appreciated)
    Thanks in advance

    You just simply need to iterate through each of the members to retrieve their mail address.
    As the values stored in a group's member attribute are all distinguished names, it makes the task very simple as you just need to bind to them and request the value of their mail attribute.
    I also recomend that you behave like a good Active Directory citizen and use range retrieval which is described in the post "JNDI, Active Directory, Paging and Range Retrieval" available at
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=578347&tstart=0
    In order to achive what you want, you just need to add a few lines of code to the range retrieval example.
    Replacefor (NamingEnumeration e = attr.getAll();e.hasMore();totalResults++) {
         System.out.println("   " + totalResults + ". " + e.next());
    }withfor (NamingEnumeration e = attr.getAll();e.hasMore();totalResults++) {
         String userName = e.next().toString()
         System.out.println("   " + totalResults + ". " + userName);
         String retAtts[] = {"mail"};
         Attributes mailAtts = ctx.getAttributes(userName,retAtts);
         System.out.println("     " + mailAtts.get("mail").get());
    }Good luck.

  • Marking read items in mail list

    I have several maailing lists that I follow and when I read an item it will then be marked as being read. If I quiet Safari, however, when I go back to my mail list nothing is marked as being read. Anybody run into this ?
    Steve

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
    I get it. When you select an item on a summary page, the item is marked a different color, ie "read, after you select the item, and then return to the summary page.
    The short of it - Safari is not designed to remember site activity from session to session. As long as you keep Safari active, the site reflects what is read (holds true for any site with live links). However, when you quit the application, Safari does not retain this information. Next time you open Safari and access the site, it's like you are starting all over again.
    Perhaps someone else in this forum can address whether you can modify Safari to suit your needs. IMO you can't.

  • Managing a mailing list in numbers. Duplicate Entries?

    Hi Everyone-
    I'm a newbie to these forums, and have done a brief search but didnt seem to find anything relevant, but if anyone can point me in the right direction, I would be most grateful.
    I have been using Numbers to manage a large mailing list of around 10-15 thousand names for promotional mailings for my small business. When I receive updated lists, new contacts are simply added to the old ones, and I am trying to figure out how to extract only the updated contacts and append the relevant ones to my existing list. Does that make any sense?
    Is there any way I can compare the two documents and have numbers delete names that exist in one document? Or even if I pasted the new list into my modified one, is there a way to tag and delete duplicates?
    Thanks in advance for any help!

    There are ways to do this in Numbers, but not simply. At this point there is no method to electronically compare two spreadsheets in numbers. The method I have in mind requires using a formula using an "IF" statement to mark suspect records, but still requires you to visually check that the record is actually a duplicate and not two people with the same name. This formula only looks at the Last name of the entry.
    Databases, and even Address Book with Applescript or Automator actions, are frankly better suited to finding and purging duplicates than a spreadsheet. At least until Numbers becomes scriptable.
    Anyway, let's say the last name of the entries are contained in Column B and you have a blank Column A named "dupes". If you don't, create one. . Sort the list by the Last Name.
    Enter this formula in cell A2 and copy it down to the last row:
    =if(B2=B1,"x","")
    Substitute the correct column letter for B in the formula. This formula says "Compare the last name in this row to the last name directly above it. If they are the same, put an "X" in this spot. If not, leave this spot empty."
    You can now copy all of column A and use Edit>Paste Values to paste Column A back into itself to get rid of the formula and leave the "x's" or you can modify the formula to compare items in another column. Be sure to sort the records by the column values you are comparing.
    From here you can scroll down the list using the "x's" as visual markers to stop and compare the entries to see if they actually are duplicates. This will preserve your sanity a little since you won't have to do a line-by-line visual comparison.
    If you really trust the results, after you've used "Paste Values" to get rid of the formulas, you can sort on the "dupes" column (column A in this example) in 'Descending' order to bring all the "x's" to the top, select them all and delete the buggers.
    Good luck,
    Terry

  • OD Group members not synchronized to mailing lists

    We have some Groups in the SLS OD that we configured as wikis to distribute Dokuments to the members. Last year the configuration of the wiki vanished from the workgroup manager and I think since then the members of the groups were no longer synced with the mailing lists.
    This is what I tried:
    I looked after /etc/aliases and found it was an old version (it misses new members and has old ones).
    So I looked where it was built from and found /Library/Application Support/Apple/mailinglists/mailinglists.plist. If I delete this file it is rebuild but with the old accounts.
    So I think there is missing a actual synchronisation between the OD and the mailinglists.plist file. But how it is done?

    Hi ,
    SharePoint 2010 permission group cannot have email address but AD Security Group can.
    If you want to make your AD Group and members address are created, you may want to use the PowerShell like Set-mailbox “MailboxAddress” -EmailAddressPolicyEnabled $true to enable "Automatically update e-mail addresses based on e-mail address
    policy", here are two articles about this.
    http://johnyassa.wordpress.com/2012/07/17/disable-automatically-update-e-mail-addresses-based-on-email-address-policy/
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb123981.aspx
    And for more questions about the AD user and Exchange mail address, you can post in Exchange server forum and be able to get a better assistance there,

  • Mailing list in Flash using Godaddy

    Hey Flash Experts –
    Ive got a new question that I am having trouble finding the
    solution to.
    I had a email.php mailing form all set up but it wont work
    with my hosting server because I am using godaddy and they require
    you to use asp and their particular gdform.asp for form sending. I
    check out the form and am not sure how to translate my php into asp
    – any ideas? I could not figure it out and have spent a while
    on google trying to see if anyone else has. Basically all I want to
    do is set up a mailing list form where the user can simply enter in
    their email address and the email address will show up in my email
    account. I am not too familiar with mailing lists which is what
    brings me to this forum. I was wondering if anyone had any
    suggestions on how to make this work in the best possible way.
    Should I use the gdform.asp ? a third party ? or is it possible to
    set up a form someone directly in flash? My site is all flash so
    this would be embedded in one of the swf pages. Any ideas,
    suggestions, comments would be awesome – thanks a lot for
    your time and help!!
    Best,
    Matt

    Just make sure you have all the files you need on your local
    machine before switching platforms because everything on the server
    will be erased when you switch. Usually with GoDaddy, in order to
    get email php scripts to work, you will have to go into your
    GoDaddy account settings and make sure there is an email address in
    the "php form" section. I think that's what the section is
    called.

  • Oracle OLAP Mailing List

    Hi all,
    If anyone's interested, Peter Odds and I have set up an Oracle OLAP mailing list as an additional resource for developers working with the OLAP Option.
    The list homepage is at http://www.rittman.net/lists/olap where you can subscribe, change subscription options or view the list archives.
    With a bit of luck it'll be an additional way for 9i/10g OLAP Option developers to share ideas, and if any good tips come up we can post them back on this forum.
    If you're interested, please feel free to sign up, and if you've got any questions please contact me at [email protected]
    regards
    Mark

    I could not find it in documentation till 11g so I doubt if there exists a stop list for Russian language as supplied.
    You can probably create one using CTX_DDL package.

  • Itunes-Windows MAIL LIST

    Anyone know of a itunes mail list. Where I can read full posts and reply via email (a list-serve)
    The subscription feature here just tells me whan a post is made, I cannot read that post via email, nor can I reply to it via email. I actaully have to come to the apple site, log on, go to the forum to read/reply. I just want to read/reply via email.
    Yes I am aware of the rss feed, but i am interested in a tranditional list-serve.
    If I cannot find one, I may build one if I see enough interest.
    Anyone interested let me know
    http://theMezz.com/mail
    I have the bandwidth to do so

    Does it play the songs shuffled?
    If you sort on the first column with the numbers and click Shuffle, it will shuffle the songs and change the display/sort order & play them in that order.
    If you sort on any other column and click Chuffle, they will stay displayed/sorted on that column but when you play it, the playlist jumps around (shuffling) the songs.

  • ITunes U Update mailing list

    I have been assigned to share administrative duties on our college's iTunes U site. I am not the primary administrator.
    Our primary admin gets "iTunes U Update" email postings sent via [email protected] . He has to forward these messages to me. I'd like to get subscribed to this email list as well, so that I can receive these messages directly.
    I've already sent my question to iTunes U Request ([email protected]), and they replied:
    At this time, there is no public iTunes U mailing list. We currently request that all questions be submitted to the forums at:
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes_u/
    Any suggestions on how I can get subscribed to the "iTunes U Update" mailing list?

    There is no email list exactly; those announcements are sent to the site administrator. Your school can can set your site administrator by logging into iTunes U as an admin, then going to "Site Settings". This loads a page that includes a section for "Site Administrator", where you can specify a contact name and e-mail address.
    They don't support having multiple e-mail addresses, so if you want more than one person to get the e-mail, you should setup a group e-mail address (or group email forward) that you can all receive messages from.

  • Is there a mailing list for the OID in oracle?

    Hi All,
    Is there a mailing list in Oracle for the OID discussion?
    Thanks,

    Hi Michelle!
    You have posted to the right forum. Also there is an OID mailing list inside Oracle, but unless you are an Oracle employee you cannot mail to it (even not from the outside).
