Remote access code

I have an old imac and whenever I try to send/receive email or log on to internet (dial-up) I get this box popping up asking for the remote access code, and if I don't have it to click OK. Clicking OK results in a failure to connect.
This has never popped up on the imac in the 5 years I have had it. It turns out that my 9 year old daughter was playing about on the computer and she has done something to activate this box.
How do you get rid of it, or what is the code that should be entered to get past it?
No emails at home for a week now. Any advice?

When you say the "Remote Access code", do you mean the user name and/or password for your account with your Internet Service Provider. IF that is what it is asking for, then enter it into the Remote Access Control Panel.
If this information is already entered (correctly) into the remote access control panel, AND the computer is still asking for the code.
Then try removing the following files from the iMac Hard drive
(NOTE: You will need to KNOW your account name (also called registered user name), password, and the phone number the computer dials out to before removing the following)
Hard Drive > System Folder > Preferences > Remote Access > Remote Access connections
AND remote access prefs
Remove the above 2 files to the desktop and restart the computer. Once the computer is restarted open remote access control panel and reenter your account info for your ISP. Also in the OPTIONS area of Remote Access control panel, select Connect automatically when using TCP/IP applications.
Close remote access control panel and save the changes
Now try connecting.

  • IMac either or has been remotely accessed, has malicious code, is hacked and/or all of the aforementioned or something that I have not yet researched. With my health issues, my Mac keeps me from thinking about the pain and disability I have. Thank you.

    Hello,
    I'm giving it one more chance and then Mac goes into trash. My iMac is either remotely accessed, perhaps malicious code, hacked and/or all of the aforementioned. I am not savvy in these areas. Please read some of the many symptoms and if you can assist me -- I am beyond grateful.  If you want to say it is my fault because I allowed somebody to use my computer or other nonsense please do not waste my time or yours. This is serious and has been going on for a period of time that is longer then I can remember!
    I have a neighbor, lives in my apartment building, 'had' physical access to my iMac.  Shortly after this I started to have problems that beyond any nightmare I have ever heard of - whether it be Windows or Apple!  Please feel free to ask me any question(s) that might help me rid my iMac of this malicious act as the police have been useless -- say they do not have equipment to check my Mac. FBI can't b bothered.
    It is more then clear that a person(s) has access and has messed up the OS, among other terrible things.  He took over my Facebook account months ago, posted as though he was me. He also prevented me from getting back into FB and Yahoo to close those connected accounts.  Went to an Apple store, under protection of their router and removed FB/Yahoo accounts.  The pages that were showing at home turned out to be fake pages controlled by him. (Think they are called "defaced").
    Anytime I did a 7X or zero out clean install -- he was there before I even hooked up the router!!!
    It came to a point that I can no longer even get to the erase/Utility/install from my apartment so I took it to Apple more then once. Besides erase/install, I turned off ALL Sys Preferences that could alert him to Mac. The last time I received a gray Install CD and was told to take it out of the building and do another erase/install.  There is no sense of going through this until I know if/how to get rid of him.
    Also when I first sign on I ALWAYS get a 192.168.100.11.  I do NOT have a router. I then go to System Preferences to Network and click "renew DHCP" several times before I get an IP addy!  I am not savvy in this area but do feel that this is a major clue.
    Passwords have been changed, master password is not something I can access which prevents me updating, etc., etc.
    I will not bombard you with every detail as that would take several pages. I am beyond desperate. Will be happy to provide further details to serious responders only.
    Thank you.

    If you really believe that your system has been compromised, here's what you do:
    Disconnect your Mac from your cable modem;
    Back up any documents on your system that are important to you;
    Boot your Mac from the system installation disks that came with it (insert the disk, restart your Mac, and hold down the "c" key until you get the "spinning gear" icon);
    Choose a language and click the arrow button to continue;
    From the Utilities menu, choose Disk Utility;
    In Disk Utility, select your computer's hard drive;
    Click the "Erase" tab;
    Click the "Security Options" button and select to have it overwrite all the data on the hard drive;
    Click the "Erase" button and allow it to process;
    Once the "erase process has completed (it will take a while), reinstall Mac OS X.
    Or, if this is too much for you to accomplish on your own, take your system to an Apple Store and have them help you perform these steps. If your system was indeed compromised, this will remove any such hack. You can then set up a new user account for the computer, reinstall your applications (reinstall only from original disks or downloads from the company making the software) and documents, and reconnect to the Internet.
    Note that when you reconnect to the cable modem, you may still get an IP address starting with 198. This is normal with some cable modems and probably not a cause for concern. It will not be an indication that your system is still compromised; that will not be possible if you perform all the above steps.
    Regards.

  • Remote Access VPN posturing with Cisco ISE 1.1.1

    Hi all,
    we would like to start using our ISE for Remote VPN access.
    We have run a proof of concept with the ISE & IPEP with a Cisco ASA5505. We got the authentication working however posturing of the client did not work.
    That was a few months ago and so I was wondering whether any design document is available specifically around Using the Cisco ISE for Authenticating & Posturing Remote Access VPN clients.
    I understand that version 9 of the ASA code is supposed to eliminate the need for Inline Posture, does anyone know whether this will also allow posturing too?
    We do intend to by Cisco ASR's aswell, but I am sceptical of this as i do not know how many VPN licenses you get out of the box. The ASA's we have allow up to 5000 IPSec VPNs without having to purchase any licensing. What I do not want to do is to switch to SSL VPNs as this again will increase cost.
    I know ISR's are support NADs but what about ASRs? There is no mention.
    Any advise will be appreciated!
    Mario

    OK, I have come accross the Cisco Validated design for BYOD and in there it has a section about Authenticating VPNs.
    thats great... however it does not mention using the Inline posture node. Does anyone know if there is a limitation using Inline Posture and SSL VPNs...?
    essentially my requirements are
    2-factor authentication VPN using a Certificate & RSA Token
    Posturing of the VPN endpoint.
    Ideally i would like to use IPSec VPNs as i have licenses already for these on my ASAs. But if it will only work with SSL & AnyConnect, then so be it.
    Can anyone help?

  • Remote access VPN client gets connected fails on hosts in LAN

    Hi,
    VPN client gets connected fine, I have a inter VLAN routing happening on the switch in the LAN so all the LAN hosts have gateway IP on the switch, I have the defult route pointing to ASA inside interface on the switch, the switch I can reach after Remote Access VPN is connected how ever I cannot ping/connect to other hosts in the LAN and if I make the gateway point to the ASA then that host is accessible, any suggestions? I really want to have gateway to be the Switch as I have other networks reachable through the Switch (Intranet routing)

    We don't need route print on the PC for now as I can explain what is happening I can get complete access to the 192.168.2.0/24 (VLAN 1000) but for 192.9.200.0/24 (VLAN 4000) above from the switch I can only ping IP's on the switches/pair but cannot have any tcp connections, which explains the default route being pointed on the switch is on VLAN 1000, now my issue is How do I get access to VLAN 4000 as you can see these two are on different Interfaces/zones on the ASA and please note with default gateway pointing to ASA I will have access to both the VLAN's it is only when I move the gateway pointing to Switch I loose tcp connections to one VLAN depending on the default route  on the being pointing to on the switch.
    So we are left to do with how to on the switch with default route.

  • Remote access to another user

    Is it possible to use Apple's Remote Access to go into another logged in user on the same machine?
    Lets say on 1 computer you are logged into the "main" account and then log in with another user account.  Can you the open Apple Remote Desktop and access the other logged in account, for example, to log that user off without having to actually switch to the user account first?

    Hi, I had same problem and I was able to resolve by updating the configure information on the mapping. For each of the source tables I entered the schema and db link. Then when I executed the code the table was properly identified with schema and db link. I don't know if this is the correct solution. I would like to know if this is the proper way to resolve the problem. I took the class and we didn't have to do this. Also you will see warnings when you deploy. Hope this helps.

    hi  Maximilian Schojohann..
    First i would like to Thank you for showing  interest in solving my issue...After some research i found that desabling the " IP CEF" will solve the issue...when i desable i was able to communicate success fully with the router lan..But when i desable " IP CEF "  Router cpu processer goes to 99% and hangs...
    In the output of " sh process cpu" it shows 65% of utilization from "IP INPUT"
    so plz give me an alternate solution ....thanks in advance....

  • My Book Live Duo Remote Access

    I currently have an iMac and use Time Machine to back up my desktop to a My Book Live Duo External Drive.
    My Book Live is supposed to allow for remote access to files. When I click on WD2go app, I can see the public shares as well as the Time Machine Share. However, when I try to see the files in the Time Machine Share remotely, I don't have files that can be accessed.
    I know the back up is successful because I can see the files on the external drive when I am on the desktop. Does Time Machine put the backup files in a certain format such that I can't see them remotely on my iphone or ipad.
    I also have a Windows desktop that also backsup to My Book Live Duo. I use the WD Smarware to backup that desktop. Unlike the Time Machine backup, I have no problem see and accessing the files backed up through WD Smartware.
    Has anyone else experienced this problem??

    I'm seeing the same pattern; Updated my system to 02.43.10-048 (from 02.11.09-053) and got a message with just ??? in Event Title and Description and nothing in the event code. An hour later I get a message about temp returning to normal (event code 2003). Everything was fine for about 30 hours, then I got ??? messages every 30 minutes followed by an event code 2003 for about 4 hours (middle of the night, no activity on the drive) yesterday I started to get a series of these with a scattering of notices of successful firmware updates (and corresponding reboots) with no change in the firmware version. We turned off auto-update. Just adding data to the thread at this point, the system is at home and I'm in the office so I can't do any real investigation on it.

  • Remote access without screen sharing?

    I have an iMac and a MacBook Air. I'd like to remotely access the iMac from the Air on my local network, so I can take advantage of the iMac's superior processing power and file storage, while sitting in a different room. The problem is that my iMac has a 27" monitor and a 24" secondary display, so screen sharing doesn't work very well on my Air's tiny 13" monitor.
    My question is, is there any software that would allow me to remotely login to the iMac and give me a Mac OS interface, but size that interface appropriately for the MacBook Air, rather than just showing me the actual desktop of the iMac. Basically, I want it to pretend like the notebook's monitor is the monitor connected to the remote mac and still execute all the code on the remote mac. Extra points if I can essentially instantiate a second instance of the same account on the iMac, so I can be logged in locally and remotely at the same time, with the same account, but with different looking desktops.

    I presume that your issue is your viewing two very small side-by-side screens on an already small screen. There is a drop down menu on the screen sharing window itself (that is, the window of the screen sharing app running on the MBAir, on the left side in the vicinity of the toolbar) where you can select to display either the left screen, the right screen, or both screens. I have a (employer-owned) 17" MBP that accesses a (employer-owned) dual-screen iMac and find that switching between left and right screens is not too bad of a compromise, in exchange for being able to actually see (and do) anything on the iMac from the MBP's screen sharing app.

  • Access-code setup on a router

    I have a VOIP network. At a remote site I have a router that has 4 fxs ports that attached to a key system unit. The issue I am having is to be able to give to all these CO type line an access code that a user can dial in order to dial long or international long distance.Do such thinf exsist.The software on the router 26XX-XM is not the call manager express. Just plain IP plus.
    Thanks

    I might be wrong here but I don't think such a thing exists.

  • Favored remote access

    Hi everyone, I was wondering what is the contentious when it comes to remote access. So far I understand three options:
    Apple remote Desktop
    VPN/SSH native with/out client
    Coda
    Any ideas, suggestions?
    I want to be able to go to my local cafe and browse my files for that odd placed one.
    Thanks, Nick

    Coda
    I do not understand Coda. When I do a google search I come up with "All-in-one text editor for web hand coding" which does not sound like remote access to me.
    Apple remote Desktop
    ARD seems like overkill. Especially when you have Mac OS X Screen Sharing built right. Although from outside the home, it requires router port 5900 port forwarding, and we are talking Mac OS X to Mac OS X.
    VPN/SSH native with/out client
    ssh will provide a secure connection, but Mac OS X Screen Sharing has an option to encrypt the entire connection.
    Then again, ssh can also provide secure tunnels for file sharing, if you prefer not to use screen sharing.
    There are a lot of previous post which explain the ssh tunneling options.
    Other options, you can get a MobileMe subscription and the Back-to-My-Mac which will provide screen sharing (without messing with your router), as well as remote file sharing.
    TeamViewer.com provides easy remote screen sharing and file transfer (free for personal use).
    LogMeIn.com will provide screen sharing for free, but if you want file transfer, you need the for pay option.
    If your wife is at home, you can use iChat based screen sharing, and iChat can also transfer files, but someone has to accept the screen sharing connection request at home.
    You could give Hamachi a try which sets up an encrypted private VPN subnet between the participating systems.

  • Windows Vista Remote Access Unresponsive

    I have a friend in another state who is VERY inexperienced with PCs.  She has Verizon DSL using the Westell D90-327W15-06 wireless router.  Whenever she requests my help (remote access invitation), I get an error saying that she may have closed the invitation.  The Windows firewall is off.  I tried having her shut down the Norton Personal firewall.  I tried talking her through the port forwarding for 3389, however her software seems much different from the software described in the router manual.  I still think her router is the culprit, because I once had this working when I had my laptop connected through her router when I was visiting her.  We both have Dell Inspiron laptops with Windows Vista.  Any suggestions?
    Kitty
    P.S. She tried calling Verizon support, but her inexperience coupled with the support person's accent made it useless.  He couldn't understand the question and she couldn't understand the answer.

    Thanks for the response. I have read the threads and have
    googled for more leads. I am getting two different responses
    between Access 2000 and Access 2003. In 2000 It displays the help
    properly but the Index/Search tabs contain content from Access 2000
    help, not MyProject.chm. The correct window help is displayed from
    MyProject.chm. In Access 2003 it does not display the
    TOC/Search/Index tabs. The Access 2000 behavior is explained in one
    of the links provided. The workaround is to provide a hook for the
    F1 key and call the Helpfile manually. They provided the code and
    it is also provide in Microsoft MKSB 271390. I have created the
    Autokey macro to hook F1 and call the custom function, but the
    application seems to be ignoring the F1 key hook to the Autokey
    macro. The reason that I know this is because I put a pause in the
    start of the function and it never gets there. Any other ideas that
    I can try?
    Thanks,

  • How to detect real desktop and remotely accessed(screen shared) desktop?

    Hi All,
    On Mac Os the Screen Sharing feature is similar to Remote Desktop Service. Is there a way to determine whether the terminal where we are starting the application(our own application) is real desktop or remotely accessed (screen shared) desktop?
    For Ex:
    I have booted(logged in) the Mac A sytem with user1 account. From another Mac B machine, i will login to user2 account of Mac A sytem using Screen sharing  feature. My application has to run only on real desktop, not on remotely accessed desktop(screen shared). So Is there a way(programmatically) to determine whether the terminal where I am starting the application is real desktop or remotely accessed (screen shared) desktop?
    Please guide me.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Vinay

    Have a look at the 'Son Of Grab' sample code, it shows you how to grab elements of the screen individually.

  • TA20852 Help! My ex has remote access set up on my Mac.

    So I love my iMac. But my soon to be ex husband set it up. I've found that he has had remote access to all my computers. My Mac and my pc's. On the pc's I've been able to shut everything down. But on the Mac... I just don't know enough about them to do it. I went into system preferences and sharing and unchecked everything. I also found some sort of software on the computer and deleted it. But there are areas that I'm trying to access that I can't because it keeps asking me for a "keychain login". I don't really want to loose the software that is loaded or the files that are on this computer. He has taken any discs or activation codes with him. He also took the removable hard drive with EVERYTHING on it. SO... what do I do? How do I reset this Keychain login and make sure he can't access anything else?
    The router and modem are both new and I set the passwords when they were installed.

    Run Little Snitch.  It will tell you about each application that access the internet. And lets you control wich one that do. The trial period will probably be enough to figure out what is going on.

    Have your lawyer speak with you soon to be...
    There are a lot of places to start app.  First look in login items
    the blue Apple icon > system preferences > accounts
    see if he started up anything.
