Remote Desktop Assistant woes

Hi all,
My boss was talking about the WWDC2007 session he saw on ARD and particularly "Remote Desktop Assistant" which allows list sharing.
I've tried to get it working but it refuses to go. The main computer I tried only showed 5 of the 20 lists. Every computer I've tried sharing lists to or from the "Remote Desktop Assistant" crashes when I hit the "Sync" button.
I'm running ARD 3 and OS X 10.4.10
Has anyone had any success or failures getting this to work.
# Tony Williams

I have downloaded Extending Remote Desktop for Large Installations PDF. It references two applications that I am having difficulty locating. It looks like you have found these apps. Do you have a URL where these could be found?
I'd like to try this out - even if it has been failing. I have 22 of my 47 schools with dedicated XServes for Task Server activities and local ARD administrator computers. This seems to be a good fit for my environment and I am willing to get this working and share my notes (pass or fail).

  • Is remote desktop assistance available in AppleCare Program?

    Hi
Those days that I was using windows, if I had a problem that couldn't solve it, I just contacted a support company ( not related to Microsoft ) and they asked me to turn on Teamviewer and give them the password. An expert got into my system and made anything needed ( also they charged me for that !! ). I know that was a security risk , but for a lazy person like me it was a gift sent from God !
Now I have turned into Mac and those guys say they can only give support for Windows.
As I was really pleased by the convenience of that program, before buying the AppleCare I want to know if this service includes remote desktop assistance or not .
    Thanks

No it doesn't. Youll need to look for a thrid party solution (again) if you want this.

  • Windows Remote Desktop Assistant for installation of Portal 7.0

    Hi
Can I use Windows Remote Desktop Assistant for installation of NW04s (Portal 7.0) on a Windows Server 2003 (x64)?
SAP recommended earlier not to use the same. But, not aware of any such guidelines now.
I appreciate your views on the same.

The only errors that I've encountered when performing installs over remote desktop were to do with the Oracle installer not finishing correctly.  This was particularly evident in oracle 9.2 and I have had no issues with 10g as yet.

  • Using Windows 7 Remote Desktop with Airport Extreme...help!

I recently purchased an Airport Extreme to replace an old Linksys router I had. Its works great, but I'm having an issue when I send my brother a remote desktop assistance link in Windows 7. We are both running Windows 7 and never had this problem in the past, but now that I'm using an Airport Extreme it wont connect. Tech support could not provide the correct ports that needed to be opened. I'm thinking it has something to do with NAT PMP (Apple) and UPNP (Microsoft). We have opened ports 3389 and 491152 - 65535 but no luck.
So my question...how can I enable the Airport Extreme to allow Windows 7 Remote Desktop Assistance?

Sorry, that should be remote "assistance" not "desktop"

    Hi,
First, please try the SFC command to check if you any corrupted system files:
How to use the System File Checker tool to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files on Windows Vista or on
    Windows 7
If this issue persists, it is recommended to perform system restore to get back to a previous time point to check what the result is:
System Restore - Windows 7 features - Microsoft Windows
    Hope it helps.

  • Can apple remote desktop be used to assist someone with cognitive disabilities to type on a computer in a different city?

Question:  Can Apple Remote Desktop be used to assist someone with cognitive disability to type on an Imac in another city?

You can read about the features of Apple Remote Desktop for yourself and decide whether it would be of help:

I can't see how it would help anyone type on a Mac, remote or not, disability or not, but perhaps you have assistance in mind that I'm not envisioning.

  • IOS Remote Desktop Client Logon Issue Prompts to Logon 3 Times with RDGW

I have an issue when connecting from the Remote Desktop client iOS on multiple iPads/users.
First a little background: We have an RDS Web Access / RDS Gateway (2012 R2) setup and properly configured. We can logon using it just fine from the Mac OS version of the app, Android version of the app, or from a Windows PC. When we try to
connect via the iOS app we get the prompt to logon 3 times. Due to security reasons, we do not want them to store their credentials on the iPads, which is the only method I have found to eliminate the triple password entry. It only prompts once on the Mac
OS version, Android version or from a Windows PC.
The password isn't being entered incorrectly and the servers are not registering any Audit Failures for the logon attempts. Can you assist?
Additionally I would like to recommend the addition of a feature to be able to setup remote resources but prompt for the password on app launch for security reasons. That way they would have to enter it once but then they could access any resources needed.
    Thanks,
    Nate L

Then it displays the same settings again except for the gwAutodetectState line changing to:
    gwAutodetectState = kConnectionGwAutodectedHTTPSTried;
Then it connects ok. I went to our firewall (MS Forefront TMG) and monitored for traffic from the iPad iOS App (based on network it is on). I don't see the initial connection attempt at all, which is expected because according to the log above it looks
like it tries to connect to the host directly...which it shouldn't?
Then in the second attempt I see it trying to go to http://ExternalRDSGatewayHostName:443/remoteDesktopGateway/ which again it shouldn't be doing because that URL (the remoteDesktopGateway) is not part of the RDSGW or RDSWA 2012 R2 IIS
config or am I missing something? It should be going to Rpc or RDWeb right? or do I need to allow that path through too?
    Thanks,

  • My keyboard doesn't work when I connect to a Windows 7 computer with Remote Desktop.

I got a new computer at work that has Windows 7 Professional 64-bit on it.  I set up a Remote Desktop connection from my iMac at home and connected.  However, when I tried to use the keyboard, nothing happened.  After a little pecking I found that the DELETE key worked.  Also, I found that the keyboard would work correctly if I held down the FUNCTION key.  Very weird.
My old Windows XP computer was still connected so I connected to it via Remote Desktop.  The keyboard works normally there.  It has always worked in Windows XP so I was surprised when it didn't work in Windows 7.
I've been searching but haven't found anyone with this same issue.  Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks.

  • Office 2013 - RemoteApp & Remote Desktop Client

When launching Office products from the Remote Desktop Client with Remote Resources / RemoteApp in OSX Mavericks. e.g. Office Word 2013 it is extremely slow and unresponsive. It opens to fill the screen but not full screen, cropping above the dock and below
the MAC toolbar. This is not apparent in Windows Surface Pro / RT / 7 / 8, Android, iPad / iPhone iOS
If I restore down the Window it seems to remove a white outer bar and then works as intended, even if I manually click and drag more or less to the same size of the maximised window. I believe this may be due to the Office 2013 shadow. In GPO I have:
    - Added a registry to DisableAnimation
-Enabled 'Disable Office Animations' in the Office 2013 ADMX
-Enabled 'Do not use hardware graphics acceleration' in ADMX

If the application works fine safe mode, try disabling the add-ins for the application and check the result:
    Click the File tab.
    Go to Options.
    click Add-ins.
Select or clear the options that you want.
unchecked  the add in like send to Bluetooth and something regarding office one not.

  • Why is Remote Desktop running when I have it disabled?

I am running Windows 7 Professional. Looking at the Event Viewer today, I examined Microsoft/Windows/Terminal Services/Local Session Manager/Operational. There are 1,959 events recorded, dating back to 7/30/2014. A typical entry--one from today, reads in
the details: Remote Desktop Services: Session Logon Successful. User: PC\UserName Session ID:2. Source Network Address: LOCAL. The subsequent entry reads: Remote Desktop Services: Shell Start Notification Received. User: PC\UserName. Session ID:2. Source Network
Address: LOCAL. There are also entries for Session Logoff Succeeded, Session Has Been Discontinued, and Session Has Been Reconnected. It appears that these entries have been recorded each time we log on, log off, and switch user. My question is: Why are these
events being recorded under Terminal Services and Remote Desktop Services events? Under Services, I have disabled Remote Desktop Configuration, Remote Desktop Services, and Remote Desktop Services User Mode Port Redirector. In Control Panel/System, I have
unchecked the box for "Allow Remote Assistance invitations to be sent from this computer."
About a month ago, I discovered a strange new hardware installation of a PS/2 mouse and i8042 port in the Event Viewer. Consequently, under Hidden Devices in Device Manager, I did see the PS/2 mouse that I never installed.
Yesterday, I ran netstat -anobv and it showed two ports listening on the network for which it said, "Cannot obtain ownership information." One was port 445, for which I have blocked incoming activity on the firewall. The other was port 5357,
which according to Microsoft has some security vulnerabilities related to Function Discovery Provider Host and Function Discovery Resource Publication. Since this is a standalone PC with no network attached devices, I disabled both of these services. As of
this morning, the PS/2 mouse has disappeared from Device Manager.
A new process has popped up using netstat -anobv, on port 8883. It's IANA registered to MQTT. Should I be concerned about the Remote Desktop Services shown in Event Viewer? I thought it was a cause for concern, especially due to the appearance of the PS/2
mouse and the i8042 port which I did not install. Thank you for your help with this issue.

    Hi Tergivesada,
You may upload the log files into OneDrive and paste the shared link here, we will help to check it out.
For other considerations, some application might also take use of remote services to cause Windows record the logon events, which should be considered a normal behavior. Reference:
    Remote Desktop Services.
For the security consideration, you may take use of Windows Security Essentials to help protect your machine:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-HK/windows/security-essentials-download
And further questions, please feel free to post back.

  • New to server, need VPN for remote desktop and file share...

I've set up server and have the VPN working, I think, I need to have several outside systems join the servers VPN permanently to allow for file sharing and remote desktop. I don't want the "normal" internet browsing to go through the VPN (huge slow down) I have read that a "split DNS" or "split tunnel" is what I need, then to disable "send all traffic over VPN connection" option on each remote system. I was a little confused after reading on how to do this on Leopard server (the only instructions I found) but have absolutely no idea on how to do this on Snow Leopard server (the server I set up is 10.6) any assistance would be great, thanks in advance.

Server Admin, VPN, Settings, Client Information, Network Routing Definition.
Here add a private network record type that matches your LAN/VPN ip.
    For example
    IP Address: 192.168.0.0
    Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Type: Private
You can find more informations about this feature in Snow Leopard Server documentation:
    http://images.apple.com/server/macosx/docs/NetworkServices_Adminv10.6.pdf
search for "Configuring VPN Network Routing Definitions"

  • Remote desktop and citrix server

On my corporate network, which is Windows based, we are able to hit our Citrix server from inside the firewall using the Windows remote desktop program. How do I do the same with my Mac, when I am on the network inside our firewall? I can reach the server with no problems from outside the firewall.

What application are you using to try and connect? I would guess that you're using the Citrix app or Microsoft's Remote Desktop Connection Client for Mac, neither of which will be most likely to get assistance with in this forum which is for Apple's own software for managing networked Macs. If you'll tell us what software you're using to try and connect, we can probably direct you to the place where you'll be most likely to get quick and accurate suggestions.

  • Remote Desktop Connection

I'm running bootcamp Windows 8 on a MacBook Pro and a MacMini (on home network).
I have them set up for remote access. At home on the same network, I can remote desktop to the MacMini using the local IP address with no problems.
I then wanted to access it from an external network so I enabled the default 3389 port in my firewall settings and set up this port to my MacMini in my router settings. I reserved the IP address for the MacMini as well.
I was able to successfully connect from an external network at least once but once my external IP address changed, I was no longer able to get it to work after updating the IP address. The computer is on because I can access it using TeamViewer and I use
that to check the current IP address of the MacMini when I'm trying to connect.
To get around the dynamic IP problem, I signed up for a dyndns account and set up a host name. I can use a port check and the host name ***.dyn-o-saur.com resolves to the correct IP address (i.e., the whatismyip.com result on the MacMini).
I have tried changing the port to 8888 in case TeamViewer or some other application was using 3389 but that hasn't fixed the problem either. I've checked the port (using http://www.t1shopper.com/tools/port-scan/) and I get this message:
    ***.dyn-o-saur.com is responding on port 8888 (ddi-tcp-1).
I have the dynUpdater v5.0.1 installed on both computers and it says the host is inactive (however since the hostname is resolving properly I assume this means the app is not working but it shouldn't be affecting my ability to connect?).
    Some help please?

    Hi,
Firstly, we need to refer to this article and configure the settings.
Allow Remote Desktop connections from outside your home network
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/allow-remote-desktop-connections-from-outside-your-home-network
From you description, I think you have done this part. However, please keep to use port 3389 and make sure that you can RDP to your Windows 8 via the
    Public IP address from Internet.
Then, as you have dynamic public IP address, we need some way to track the changes of your public IP address. Yes, dyndns is one of the methods, you need to make sure that it
can resolve the host name you registered to the correct Public IP address so that you can always RDP you Windows 8 via host name when you outside your home.
If you need assistance about dyndns, please contact their support.
    Thanks.

  • Remote Desktop Connection on EA6500

    Very simple requirement.
     New EA6500
     Server (Win7Pro) on LAN
     PC (Win8Pro) on LAN
Need to use Remote Desktop Connection to connect from PC to Server.
The old LinkSys WRT54G worked fine.
Also tried searching the web and speaking to support for a couple of hours....Support made me fiddle with the Security settings:
     Uncheck the Internet Filter options
Added a record on the Port Range Forwarding with Port 3389 to the Server IP address.
I have spent hours trying to make this work but no luck.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I finally resolved this. Problem was with the firewall on the server I was trying to remote desktop to.
At first I disabled the firewall and could then remote desktop to the server.
Then turned it back on, tweaked it (not sure exactly what I did) and it now works with the firewall working.
    Thanks for the assistance.
