Remote Desktop sound stops working after a while.

Has anyone a solution to this problem of the sound just dropping out of a RDP connection after a day or two?
Win Server2008 (32 bit) running as a Terminal Server.
WIN 7 Clients (32 bit)
Sound is absolutely critical on the program being ran on the WIN7 clients when connecting via RDP to the Server 24/7.
But the sound just stops working on the RDP clients after a day or two.
If I minimize the RDP session and try the sound from the native windows session it works, but sound is not working within the RDP session.
and it takes a restart of the RDP session to restore sound, but then aftera day or two I get a call to say the sound is no longer working- a restart of the RDP sessions restores the sound.
I have checked the Environment sound settings in the RDP setup on the clients and have them set to play on the client, and I have checked that sound is not disabled in the Terminal Server end of things for RDP sessions.
I would really appreciate to help with this if anyone has suggestions.

OK after updating the Server and clients I am still having this issue :(
and just today after no sound problems for 6 days the sound dropped out on a couple of RDP sessions, yet the sound on the client itself worked fine when tested (minimise the RDP session).
It took the RDP sessions to be restarted to restore the sound within the session.
I have found similar (old) thread regarding this problem:
https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/958fd891-6f55-432b-8268-a326ac6b2b2e/sound-in-remote-desktop-session-stops-working
but no one has informed about if as solution was ever found.

Over the past week the sound in my laptop has begun to stop working after a while of the laptop being on. It works initially but after a while when I check it doesn't work anymore. The mute button does not mute work, the volume increse and decreases on the screen but it does not affect the absense of sound. Please Help.
System Details: HP Pavilion g6, Windows 8

HI. I'm having the same problem. This has been happening for some time now. I can play anything with sound and then it suddenly goes and I can't use the mute/on/off or work out what's happening. Is it a fault?

  • Remote Desktop Connection stop working after upgrade from 10.5.8 to 10.6.1

I too could not connect to a W2K3 server with RDC 2.0.1 after upgrading from Mac OS X, 10.5.8 to 10.6/10.6.1. I have another Mac which is on 10.5.8 and connect fine with the same version of RDC 2.0.1 as well as other PC with Terminal Service Clients.
There is no change on the server side. I have uninstalled and reinstalled RDC 2.0.1 several time and it did not resolve the issue. To rule out firewall/network, I tested with another remote desktop application called CoRD (for Mac) on the same laptop running SL 10.6.1 and it connected to the same W2K3 server fine.
One thing that is worth mentioning (in my case), when it does not connect, RDC totally quit (not running anymore. Not minimize, no cannot connect error message, no little dot on the Dock for RDC, nothing) right after I put in the credential in. When looking at the log entries that are related to RDC in the Console application, I see the following

Doing some more troubleshooting after my post above as I saw a couple of entries referencing Stop Light keep popping up in the log of the Console. I removed Stoplight and Cocoa Gesture (for good meausre) and RDC 2.0.1 started working. I think it is Stop Light which causes RDC stop working, but I don't have to time right now to put Cocoa Gesture back to confirm that. I might if I have the time or post here if you have Stop Light installed as well and removing it resolved the RDC issue for you.

  • Remote Desktop Connection Stopped Working when Disconnecting

Hi I have a fresh clean install of Windows 8.1. Whenever I RDP into another Windows 8 machine... upong disconnecting I get the error: "Remote Desktop Connection Stopped Working"
I have tried not mapping to remote printers, or drives (smart cards etc.) and it still persists. When I remote to Windows Server or Win 7, it does not happen.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thank you

FYI, same issue here, Windows 8.1 on ThinkPad W520 (upgraded from Windows 8).
Even without Fingerprint Manager, and having uninstalled ThinkVantage Password Manager as well, still crashes.  I also tried the:
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
but no luck, my mstsc.exe is still crashing when the remote session window is closed.

  • X121e touch pad buttons stop working after a while

    Hello everyone,
    I have a lenovo thinkpad x121e.
The buttons above the touchpad (for right and left clicking) and also the trackpoint stop working after a while (about 45 min). Although the touchpad itself works without problems.
If I reboot the operating system (Windows 7, 64-bit version) everything works fine for a while and then the buttons and trackpoint won't respond again.
It is always the same routine. Rebooting windows, everything alright, stop working, ...
I am using the newest driver version and de- & reinstalling of UltraNav haven't solved the problem.
Has anyone an idea what causes my problems with the touch pad buttons and how to solve it? (I guess it's not a hardware problem.)
    Many thanks in advance.

    Hi again, li-lup
I would recommend trying to use the standard Synaptics driver found here. Synaptics is the company that develops the UltraNav software, so there should be no loss of compatibility/features. I have witnessed several cases where this driver has helped others with mouse issues, so it may help yours as well.
The first thing you will need to do is to remove the UltraNav driver from the system. To do this, open the Start menu and type Device Manager into the Search box, and then press Enter. Once here, double click on Mouse and other pointing devices, and then right-click on the UltraNav device. Naviage to the Driver tab and select Uninstall... from the bottom of the window. Follow the prompts to uninstall and then restart when prompted by Windows. Windows should install a generic driver that will allow you to use the TouchPad when downloading the Synaptics driver.
    Hope it helps,
    Adam

my sound stopped working after installing Java

Make sure Must is not selected in System Preferences > Sound
Might be corrupted sound preferences ...
    Open the Finder.
From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
    Type or copy/paste:   /Library/Preferences
Click Go then move the com.apple.soundpref.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash.

  • KM2M + WIN XP sound stops working after a few minutes

as in subject i have a KM2M COMBO-L (MS 6738) MoBo with athlon xp 2000+ and 128 MB spectek PC2100.
The problem is that the sound stops working after some minutes of use.
It's the same problem in all the 10 PCs of my webcafe

KM2M uses the Realtek ALC650 CODEC.  Are you using the VIA Audio driver or Realtek?  It should say under audio properties.
    I recommend the Realtek drivers.
Of course, if you are already using the Realtek, then I recommend the VIA drivers.
    Pretty insightful, eh?

  • Audio stops working after a while (30+ minutes uptime with audio)

I'm having one hell of a time with the audio on my machine hope someone can help...
(edit: forgot to mention, installed packages: pulseaudio-alsa, pulseaudio-gconf and paprefs, using i3 WM and SDDM. Switching to i3 and SDDM are the biggest recent changes I made before this started, although I did pacman -Syu at some point around then too)
    Here's what I'm experiencing:
Start up my machine, and usually watch some videos and play some video games.
After things have been running for a while (anywhere between 30 mins and a few hours) I'll quit my game, load up a different video, or do something else that involves quitting an application that plays audio.
From this point on, any new application that are opened (including new tabs in any web browser) will not play audio, even if other applications are currently playing audio.
I haven't been able to reproduce the issue reliably.
I've tried examining the output of "pacmd list", and I thought I had found some differences yesterday between when its working and when its not, bot today the output is different when audio isnt working than it was yesterday. (actually, I just checked again, and now it is the same as yesterday). I can post the output from when its working vs when its not working if that helps diagnose anything. The only differences that seemed significant is that there is a second module called "module-alsa-card" listed after the sound stops working, two new sources are listed for what I believe are my headphones and mic plugged in the rear panel, and a new card shows up which I think is the onboard audio. It almost seems like pulseaudio is taking over my soundcard when I stop using it, and in doing so prevents audio from playing.
There are a couple of times when it just started working again, without me doing anything at all. I'm really losing my mind over this, any advice is welcome!

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Open windows Control Panel, open Windows Update, select 'View update history' in the left hand pane and then select 'Installed updates' link in the following window.
Locate update KB2962407, right click it and select Uninstall.  When done, restart the notebook, open windows Control Panel, open Windows Update and select 'Check for updates'.  You'll see the update you just uninstalled being offered again - right click and select 'Hide Update'.
After this you may or may not need to delete and reload the Audio driver - if you do, the procedure for using recovery manager to reinstall Software and Drivers is detailed in the document on the link below.
    Recovery Manager - Windows 8.

  • Iphone sound stopped working after ios 6.0 update

My 4s was working fine until I updated to 6.0.  After that, my sound stopped working.  If I plug in headphones it works, but as soon as I unplug it stops.  When I plug into my USB sync cable it works, but when I unplug it stops working. I updated through user settings over wifi and not through itunes sync if that makes any difference.  I know other people are experiencing similar problems.  Any help would be appreciated.

Yes rev, I tried the dock cleaning as well, I didn't help me either. I read and tried everything others did-no luck. I'm guessing these are the facts, either it will quietly get fixed on an update or the % of phones with the problem compared to those that don't doesn't warrant attention and is better addressed through Apple by just replacing it..if it's still under warranty.

  • Iphone 4S sound issue - sound stops working after a few minutes

The sound on my iphone 4S stops working after a couple of minutes, including both the headphones and the loudspeaker. If I unplug the headphones and replug them in, the sound starts to work again, but only for a few minutes until it conks out again. How can I fix this problem?

Any problem when connected to another wi-fi network besides your own?
The only additonal troubleshooting options after powering the iPhone off and on, an iPhone reset, and resetting network settings on the iPhone is restoring the iPhone with iTunes from the iPhone's backup and/or restoring with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from the backup.
If no change after restoring as a new iPhone or not from the backup - the same when connected to any wi-fi network besides your own as well as not being able to maintain internet access when connected to your carrier's cellular network, the iPhone has a hardware problem.

  • Mouse and Keyboard stops working after a while

Hi, I'm not even sure where to start to find the cause of the problem. I have a normal ps/2 keyboard and USB optical mouse, both of them just stops working after a few hours. The light on the mouse just dies and the keyboard is not responsive at all.  I have to do a hard reboot of my computer. How and where can I diagnose the problem? I noticed the problem started when I upgraded to the latest kernel.

And then after a while it will just use a new address:

Then after that my mouse is unusable, the following is shown:

Oct 31 01:48:41 wdesktop usb 1-1: new low speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 8

Oct 31 01:50:08 wdesktop uhci_hcd 0000:00:10.0: Controller not stopped yet!
Unplugging and plugging the mouse back does not work
I found a workaround for that by unplugging the mouse, removing the uhci_hcd and adding it back, so:
    sudo rmmod uhci_hcd
    sudo modprobe uhci-hcd
But I'm still not sure what causes the problem.

  • Sound in Remote Desktop Session stops working

    Hello,
I have a sound issue with a 2008 server (32 bit). I'm monitoring the server via an RDP-Session that's up and running 24/7. Sometimes, the audio-output on the Client PC (Win 7 pro, 32 bits too) fells silent. Sound on the ClientPC itself (outside the
RDP-Session) is fine, within the Session everything seems to be okay (volume control, Microsoft RDP Audio Device), just there is no sound. If I close the Session and reconnect, sound is back - sometimes for a day, sometimes for a week... Audio in the Console-Session
or in other RDP-Sessions at the same time is flawless.
The WAN-Link between the two sites is a bit shabby, but as long as the session itself doesn't break I don't see a reason why a few beeps shouldn't come through.
After searching for a solution for a while now I have found hundreds of threads and solutions for no sound in RDP-Sessions at all, even a MS-Hotfix for shabby sound - but obviously I'm the only guy with such a problem.
    Ideas anyone?
    Thanks.

Are you talking about audio redirection? If yes,
The following registry subkey can disable the Audio Recording Redirection feature:
    HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\WinStations\RDP-Tcp
    fDisableAudioCapture REG_DWORD 0 | 1
If either the policy or registry subkey on the Windows 7 Remote desktop computer are set to
Disabled, Audio Recording Redirection is not available.
In Windows 7 Enterprise Edition, this registry subey is set to 1 by default. Therefore, Audio Recording Redirection is not available.
In this case it would not help to set the policy value to Enabled. Instead, you must set the subkey to
    0.

Thank you for the quick reply.
Unfortunately I am not talking about audio redirection.
In my case everything works fine for a few days and then the sound within a RDP session drops out, and it takes a restart of the RDP session to get sound back - exactly like the problem in post #1 here, but unfortunately folk dont seem to update forums if/when
    they find a resolution.

  • Flash sound stops working after I pair my Macbook Pro with a Bluetooth speaker.  What's going on?

I have a 2012 17 inch MBP, and regularly pair it with a Jambox bluetooth speaker for music.  After pairing it, sound frequently stops working in Flash - Youtube videos and the like.  Only restarting seems to do the trick.  What's disabling the sound, and is there a way to re-enable it without the hassle of restarting?

After removing adware, and do a safe boot of Safari and remove extensions, then reset cache history etc. You need to do a boot into Recovery Mode and run Disk Repair from there. Also boot the system in Safe Mode.
On startup it sounds like you have a problem with the directory which would also account for long startups and checking the directory. Along with or instead of DU Repair Disk you can use Single User Mode and fsck -fy to try to fix the directory but in some cases that may not be enough.
Backups from before you got this adware and problems helps and should always be ready and able to restore a system from known good backups or system restore image.
4GB of RAM may have been fine originally but "Early 2011" is now 5 years and 4 OS version changes. You can upgrade the memory and while at it consider a nice SSD internal drive which will help as well. Take a look and see what prices and options there are from http://www.macsales.com for your 2011 MacBook Pro.

  • Remote Desktop Connection stopped working

I made a change to my Verizon TV and Internet package, downgrading from Ultimate HD to Extreme HD and from 35/35 to 25/25.  This morning, when I ran a speed test it showed the new speed.  I went out for a few hours, and when I returned, my internet connection was not working at all.
I called Verizon's support number and, after talking to two different people, one who wanted to swap out my router, and one who wanted to send a tech to check out my ONT, they finally figured out the problem was with their configuration, not any of the hardware in my house, and got me running again at the correct speed.
During the trouble shooting process, they had me do multiple soft and hard reboots of my router, they remotely rebooted it, and had me push the recessed reset button once, restoring it to factory defaults.  This led to problems with my wireless devices, so I loaded a configuration file to the router that I had thankfully saved some time prior to this problem, and everything seemed to be working properly.
Then, I tried to open a remote desktop connection from one of my machines to another one, both on my internal home network, a connection that had worked flawlessly up until now, and it would not work.  Moreover, trying to ping the "remote" machine from the one trying to initiate the connection gets no reply, but pings are replied to in the other direction.  And, both machines can see and access each other's shared folders and files, and both can see each other in the network map in the networking and sharing control panel app.
I never made any configuration changes to either machine during the trouble shooting process, but to be sure, I used system restore on both machines and took them back to restore points made yesterday, when everything was working.
I am at a loss to understand what has gone wrong, and would appreciate any constructive and helpful suggestions as to how to remedy this situation.
    ps
I am running two different web servers on the target machine, and am running stunnel on it to provide secure nntp connections to a news client that doesn't have that capability built in, and none of these servers are available from other machines.  Nothing seems to be getting through to the target pc except windows network sharing!

#2 If you do not have at least two special computers that support Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) where you can not define the ports that they use, turn off UPnP.
A perfect example. At least two game consoles. Any two (Two Xboxes, two Playstations, One Xbox and one Playstation).
#3 If you have at least two special computers that support UPnP where you can not define the ports that they use....
Do you only use one at time or are there times when at least two are on?
#4 In the router go to Advanced -> IP Address Distribution Or to Advanced -> Private LAN
#5 What is the Starting and Ending IP Address, that is listed in there?
We have two Xboxes and a Logitech Revue.  I have Windows Media Sharing enabled on three computers, and am also running a beta of Logitech Media Server on one.   It is possible that there are times when two or more streaming clients are in operation, but that is a very rare occasion.  Two of the computers, the ones I mention in my original post, are on almost continuously.
In Advanced -> Universal Plug and Play, both Allow Other Network Users to Control Wireless Broadband Router's Network Features and Enable Automatic Cleanup of Old Unused UPnP Services are checked, and WAN Connection Publication: is set to Publish Only the Main WAN Connection.
In Advanced -> IP Address Distribution, under Dynamic IP Range it says192.168.1.2 - 192.168.1.254.  However, in Advanced -> IP Address Distribution -> Connection List I have set all the lease types to Static, because I was having problems using the Verizon web page to access my set top boxes, particularly the MRDVR.  The Static IP addresses for the computers, game consoles, Bluray player etc. are in the range 192.168.1.2 - 192.168.1.12, and the set top boxes are at 192.168.1.100 & 192.168.1.101.
One thing I did not mention in my original post is that I have two unmanaged gigabit ethernet switches in my home network.  There are two computers, the ones I mention in my original post, and the Logitech Revue plugged into one switch.  That switch plugs into another switch which also has one pc, an Xbox, and a Bluray player plugged into it, and that switch then plugs into one of the ports on my Verizon supplied Actiontec MI424-WR Rev C, firmware version 4.0.16.1.56.0.10.14.4.  All of the other ethernet ports on the router are unused.  In addition, we have a laptop, a notebook, another Xbox, and a Wii that connect through the Actiontec's wireless.
I don't know if media streaming is still working and I don't really care if it is because we use it so seldomly.  It never worked consistently or to our satisfaction.  When we want to watch or listen to media from one computer on another, we copy it over the network from shared folders.  We have a Homegroup, to which all of the computers belong.  If we want to watch or listen to media on one of the game consoles, we copy it to a flash drive.  The Bluray player is only connected to the network for firmware updates and for discs with network enabled content.
This same setup was operating before the problem developed, and I can't figure out what has changed to create the problem.  The router configuration file that I am using is from June of 2011, and I'm pretty sure that everything was working fine then, and don't recall making any changes to the router's configuration since then.

  • Itunes sound stops working after 20 mins on videos bought from iTunes store.

On every video i've bought from the iTunes store the sound cuts out after approx 20 mins. I'm on windows 8.0 (completely up-to-date with all drivers up-to-date too) with the latest iTunes (11.1.3.8) and Quicktime (with enhancements switched off). PC is a quad core i7 with 16GB of memory with windows running on an SSD and my iTunes content on another internal HD (not an SSD). iTunes library is approx 24000 songs and 30 videos. i'm watching on a full HD monitor with external speakers and the PC is authorised to play iTunes content.
I've worked my way through all the iTunes support items around video chopping (which was happening too - now fixed) and audio issues but nothing helps e.g. I've switched off iTunes match and home sharing, switched off any audio enhancements in iTunes and my sound card (which is a Via chipset on my motherboard), switched the bit rate to 16 bit/44.1k on windows and itunes, uninstalled and re-installed iTunes etc, etc.
I did have an Apple TV on my network but I've disconnected it in case the sound was being routed to it after a period of time. This hasn't made any difference.
Has anyone had this issue and managed to fix it?
    Thanks

Myself as well, have been having this same problem, around 20 minutes into any movie I open up in my itunes library, the sound stops playing.   I have yet to find any fix for the problem, although I have a thought that it is probably something to do with the buffering.  My songs play just fine, all day long, but any movie only plays for 20 minutes and then the sound goes out.   Additionally, I had another issue that kept popping up an error message everytime I tried to open Itunes, this was finally fixed via copy paste a corruptted (spelling) .dll file.  The only "workaround" for this issue, that I have found, is to open the movie in QuickTime, even though I am not really excited about the QuickTime player.  If anyone finds a better solution, please drop a line. thank you in advance.
