Remote KVM Debugger

Using Sun One Studio 5 at the moment only for remote debugging via kdp debug agent. It seems Sun One does not recognize the availability of source files, despite the file source & class directories are already mounted! And so at the moment the debugger pauses only on method breakpoints but not on line ones and does not see any source files. Error flagged as "Source of class not found!". What is needed to set the right environment for debug only usage?

Thank you Bradly and thank you John for the replies. The problem is now solved. The SUNs error message "source not found!" was very misleading and caused a bit of headache. The actual error message should perhaps say "check classpath in debug agent or KVM" and nothing to do with the source given to the SUN one, although if the source path given to the SUNone is not at the package level, it does put a line ? with no immediate explanation.

  • Connecting to a remote KVM switch

    I was able to connect to a remote KVM switch using a VPN tunnel to our corporate network, about a month ago this stopped working. I have tried different VPN client software(tunnelblick) with the same results. I can make the SSL connection, log onto the KVM but when I try to connect to a machine it comes up with an error. I have spoken to the KVM manufacturers (Raritan) they suggested talkint to Apple. I can connect using my Windows laptop from the same location. any Ideas?

    We have a pair of new Sun 4150's (with the Xeon Woodcrest CPU), and I'm playing around with the remote management features provided by the eLOM. On Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, I am able to launch the Java Remote KVM (Sun eLOM console) Java utility, but it never shows the console inside the window. I just got some Sun X4450s, their eLOM client didn't work under Linux (RHEL5, Mandriva 2008.1 etc.), but worked on Windows.
    I then did the eLOM to ILOM upgrade, and the ILOM's Sun ILOM Remote Console works fine (just as well or better than on the X4100's, X4200s, X4500s, and X4600s we have).
    If you have the ILOM Remote Console working on Mac with other servers, I'm quite sure the eLOM to ILOM upgrade will do the trick.

  • ELOM Remote Console Scriptability and Remote Storage Questions

    Hello,
    I have a few questions reguarding scriptability of the Java Web Start eLOM Remote Console and the use of this application for redirecting remote storage.
    Setup:
    - x6250s in 6048 chasis
    - x6250 Bios version 1ADPI040 & SP version 4.0.52
    - Sun eLOM Remote Console version 2.53.05
    - CentOS 5.2
    Questions:
    - I'd like to write a wrapper script that would allow me to start a remote console on the Linux command line. Then, a command line like "myjavaconsole bladexyz" would give me a java remote KVM without me having to click through the web interface. Is something like this possible? Hints?
    - The [Sun Blade X6250 Server Module Embedded Lights Out Manager Administration Guide|http://docs.sun.com/source/820-1253-14/remote_con.html#0_66586] says that you can use the eLOM Remote Console GUI to redirect storage devices including CD/DVD drives, Flash, DVD-ROM or diskette disk drives, hard drives, or NFS. These seem very instersting options, but I've only been able to sucessfully redirect an ISO image. Are these other options really possible?
    - Is it possible to script the mounting/unmounting of remote ISO images or other storage? I would love to be able to control blade boot processes by having this functionality.
    Thank you,
    -Matthew

    It seems the problem is related somehow to the setup of my Windows box. I did try a couple of other Windows boxes with the same result, but everything worked perfectly when using a Linux/ubuntu system to run the remote console. The blade saw the CD, booted from it, and is now happily running ESX Server.
    The wierd thing is, the ubuntu system was running inside VMWare Workstation on the same Windows PC that has the problems, and was accessing the same physical CD drive. Sometimes you have to think out of the box, or in this case into a box inside the box:-)
    I guess if these things we all straightforward I'd be out of a job, so I shouldn't complain!!
    Steve.

  • Remote Supervisor Adapter 2 - RSA2 - RSAII - firmware

    Where is the latest firmware for the TD100X - 4206?
    Also many of us are running a hypervisor - can you please provide updates that boot off of a CD versus OS specific.

    My TD100X RSA 2 module is complaining about that being a different platform.
    Since Lenovo is selling the RSA 2 as their solution for Remote KVM and Lenovo should be posting and hosting the firmware and Lenovo should be the one providing the support.
    Especially now that they are taking over the X series brand - it is even more clearly something lenovo needs to take over.
    Please post the current/correct version of the Firmware for the RSA 2 card under each of the Thinkserver's respective download pages.

  • .swf audio echo/HTMLPanel (Experts needed)

    I have a bizzare issue (aren't they all?)
    I apologize in advance for not being able to post an example. It's proprietary content built on a custom platform using Spry Framework. I can't post it or I'd be fired. That being said, I have been able to duplicate the issue using a bare-bones example with just a simple HTMLPanel widget and a single panel content file.
    This issue is only occuring in IE7 (my company's default browser.) and I suspect it's some kind of network/server issue at the root of the problem, but I can't prove that... yet.
    The issue is pretty simple. I have a swf that contains an embedded sound (issue seems immune to Stream or Event sound types) which is contained in the content fragment to be loaded into the HTMLPanel. The swf should just auto-play once the fragment is loaded in the panel.
    When loading the above referenced fragment of the panel content file (which I'll refer to as a "page") into the HTMLPanel, there are TWO ?instances? of the sound that play... resulting in an echo.
    Observations/Facts
    Using Spry v1.6.1
    IE7 specific. No issue in Firefox or Chrome (unfortunatly, those are non-standard browsers in my world.)
    Have tried using both swfObject and a bare-bones object/embed tag on the content page with the same result.
    When viewing the same swf in an html page (the aboved referenced panel content file) in a single browser window (not the HTMLPanel), there is no echo.
    Co-workers in another remote location (where the server is co-located) do not experience this issue -or- there really are two sound instances but they are perfectly sync'd, thus no (perceptible) echo.
    Moving the mouse around the screen and triggering some other event (like a rollover) shuts off one of the sound instances, leaving one playing.
    Clearing the IE7 browser cache *sometimes* eliminates the problem... until returning to the "page". So, it'll play once correctly.
    The two instances of the audio track are staggered (thus the echo). By a second or two... consistantly.
    Have confirmed only one instance of the swf is being instantiated.
    Unable to "find" a second instance of the sound object when using remote Flash debugger.
    Moving the sound away from frame 1 to any other frame does not eliminate the issue.
    Forcing the swf to stop (not letting it play on it's own... require user to press a play button) eliminates the issue.
    I've tried debugging with Firebug-lite but can't find anything that would give me a clue. I'm stumped. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'll be happy to provide any additional info I can.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hey there,
    Apologies for the delayed reply. I opted to NOT look at the computer this weekend.
    Let's see...
    Observers: I do happen to have an onPostUpdate observer assigned to the panel object that does some other page validation type stuff each time a new page is loaded into the panel. But, are you referring to adding the observer to the panel object or somewhere in the fragement that get's loaded into the page?
    I do have evalScripts set to true... which brings up sorta a good question.
    Assume for a moment that I use swfObject to embed my swf into the fragment and that the swfObject script executes as it should. Wouldn't that essentially be doing the same thing as an observer?
    For example...
    Load new content fragment into the HTMLPanel object
    evalScripts (true) allows swfObject to execute
    Object tag written
    swf plays
    What am I missing? Perhaps I have my DOM events out of order.
    You get as many guesses as you'd like!

  • Clean Reinstall then Quad won't complete its Boot-Up

    First I had problems with the Mac not recognising my Sony Video Camera.
    I'm familiar with the Quicktime 7 issue, so I did all the QuickTime receipts/QT Fresh Install stuff. Still recognition of the camera was erratic and then seemed to be getting worse.
    Next, my new (Feb 28 2006) G-Tech G-Raid 1tb went off the road - erratic recognition and VERY slow (if any) folder navigation - then ceased altogether.
    Worse, the Quad suddenly started hanging and throwing up text:
    (These are some of the more interesting bits).
    System Failure: CPU=1
    Code: 015B0930
    Unknown Failure Code
    Latest Crash Info for CPU1
    Exception State SV-0x000000000 (I think).
    Backtrace terminated - unaligned frame address: 0X48041EE9
    Memory access Exception (1,0,0)
    Waiting for remote (something) debugger connection.
    (Fans were at full tilt).
    Well, I did two hardware tests (at over 4 hours apiece) and nothing showed, so I erased and reinstalled.
    I couldn't get the DVD drawer open, so I firewired to my G5 Dual and targetted the Quad.
    This made seemed to help but the Quad still wasn't stable, so I did a fresh reinstall again by using the OS X Install Disk.
    I ditched all but the basic install option.
    Now the Quad won't finish Booting Up.
    It gets to the end of the progress monitor (candy bar) thingy and then just hangs.
    It'll boot from my LaCie 500 GB HD though - and seems to run OK from that.
    What are my chances?

    I should add that after the first reinstall of OS X, I updated to 10.4.6 but after the second I didn't update.
    ALSO (if it makes a difference) on both occasions, I reinstated my old library files.
    I've done sporadic zapping of PRAMS and repairing of permissions along the way too.
    I guess I'll do another clean reinstall without reinstating my library files - but without all those settings, I may well lose the will to live.

    your welcome,
    If you keep a clone of your pristine boot drive on a external drive, kept disconnected and in a safe place. Then if something like this happens you can disconnect the boot drive and option boot from the clone to isolate if it's a hardware or software problem right off.
    Then you have the option with the clone to repair/recover or simply erase the original and reverse clone if it is indeed a screwed up boot drive.
    (actually it's best to have two clones, each staggered a bit in time/updates just in case you hook up a clone to a infected machine and it too gets owned)
    Cloning can only take minutes, and you can out to lunch while the clone is going on. Sure beats trying to find out what's exactly the problem.
    Visit the free Carbon Copy Cloner forums for details. Search Apple for DejaVu which is a System Preference pane which combines auto-cloning and auto-backup. Clone once a week and backup daily for instance.
    Always Erase w/Zero option all new drives, it checks every bit on the drive and maps off those bad sectors which is a cause of a lot of unusual behaviors.

    Bernhard,

    >
    if this is a rtfm question, please point me to the documentation.
    if not, could any please tell me how integration of wle 5.1 into vc4ee
    works?
    a) (remote) deploymentVisualCafe allows the user to specify options such as WLS version, WLS home,
    etc. Also, deployment parameters can be specified through an integrated GUI.
    The IDE then creates a WLS specific DD file, complies the EJB files, runs
    weblogic.ejbc on the files to create stubs and skeletons, and jars up the EJB
    for deployment. Both hot and cold deployment are supported (depending on steps
    chosen), in which an entry is made in WLS properties file for the EJB, and the
    jar is moved to the correct location as specified in the IDE options, and (if
    hot-deploying) the EJB is hot deployed to a running WLS instance. Both local
    and remote WLS instances can be cold/hot deployed to from within the IDE.
    >
    b) remote debuggingThe debugger attaches to a debug instance of the JVM running WLS and the user
    can set breakpoints etc. Works with JDK 1.1 and JDK 1.2 on NT, Solaris 2.7, and
    HP-UX 11.
    >
    c) start/stop server (read this somewhere, but haven't found it yet)Do you have the VisualCafe Enterprise 4.0 or Studio 4.0 product? It should be
    under Project->Start WebLogic ... (the project open must be an EJB project).

  • Debugging using JNI

    I'm currently trying to figure out how to debug the code in the java end of a C++ program invoking the javaVM. I've used the:
    java -Xdebug -Xnoagent-Djava.compiler=none -runjdwp:transport=dt_socket,server=y,suspend=y InvokeTest
    command to run a class called InvokeTest and have successfully been able to link Eclipse's debugger to the jvm and it works perfectly.
    As far as actually invoking a method in my InvokeTest, from C++, I've had no problems. But as soon as I add the: options[4].optionString = "-Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,server=y,suspend=n" argument to the options the JavaVm can not be created (CreateJavaVM returns -3)
    Does anybody know how to properly get Xrunjwp running through JNI?
    I've included the code I'm using to invoke the javaVM below:
    int JavaManager::initializeJava ()
         JavaVMInitArgs args;
         JavaVMOption options[4];
         int retval = 0;
         CreateJavaVM_t *CreateJavaVM;
         HINSTANCE handle;
         /* Load the Java VM DLL */
         if ((handle = LoadLibrary("d:\\j2sdk1.4.2\\jre\\bin\\client\\jvm.dll")) == NULL)
              printf("Error:cannot load JVM");
              return NULL;
         /* Now get the function addresses */
         CreateJavaVM = (CreateJavaVM_t *)GetProcAddress(handle, "JNI_CreateJavaVM");
         if (CreateJavaVM == NULL)
              printf("Error: can't find JNI interfaces\n");
              return NULL;
         args.version = JNI_VERSION_1_4;
         args.nOptions = 5;
         options[0].optionString = "-Djava.class.path=D:\\Programming Projects\\callingJavaFromC\\java";
         options[1].optionString = "-Xdebug";
         options[2].optionString = "-Xnoagent";
         options[3].optionString = "-Djava.compiler=none";
         //why is this causing the CreateJavaVM to return -3?
         options[4].optionString = "-Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,server=y,suspend=n";
         args.options = options;
         args.ignoreUnrecognized = JNI_FALSE;
         retval = CreateJavaVM(&jvm, (void **)&env, &args);
         if(retval != 0)
              printf("Error: cannot create JVM\n");
              printf("error num = %d\n", retval);
              isInitialized = false;
              return -1;
         return 0;
    }Thanks for your time,
    Corry Trout

    The problem is the dimension of your option array. Your allocate an array with size 4.
    JavaVMOption options[4];
    But then you assign a value to the 5th position.
    options[4].optionString = "-Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,server=y,suspend=n";
    If you correct the array size to 5 it shouldn't crash anymore.
    I'm working on the same problem. I also want to debug the java code with a remote java debugger. But I can't connect with the debugger if i launch the jvm from my own exe. If you can do that now, please let me know...

  • X2100 M2 & X2200 M2 ilom and Mac OS X's Java

    For some reason OS X's Java will not run the remote KVM. It works fine on Windows, Linux and about any other platform I have tried, but I'm running 10.4.8 on a PPC (have tried several workstations) and when I first log in through the web interface (Safari, have tried Opera and Firefox too), I can see the minature console, but when I click the "Launch", it starts up, with the usual "trust" this and that...
    Then the Virtual KVM pops up, but before I see the screen I get a small pop up that says "Connect to Remote Host Fail!", once I click "OK" it closes the whole KVM.
    Anyone have any ideas?

    You know, it wouldn't irratate me so bad if it was a problem with Safari, but it's a problem with the JVM on the MAC.
    It doesn't matter which broweser you use on Windows... Firefox, Opera, IE, they all work no problem. Same goes for any Solaris or Linux.
    I think there is an issue with Apple being the ones responsible for maintaining the JVM for the MAC platform. I'm not sure whose fault that is.... ie: Did Sun say we aren't going to develop it for the MAC and Apple picked up the slack, or was it Apple saying... "We'll do this better"....
    Regardless, I have downloaded even the latest JVM from the Apple developer site and it has the same problem. This is very irratating as we are an all MAC shop, and PowerPC based, so I have to load up a very SLOW Virtual PC just for an IE session to bring up the console.... Arghh!!!
    If there are any updates, lemme know!

    Intel MEI/HECI is the device driver for the Intel vPro feature set, it is used for out-of-band management and support, for business/companies/enterprises to perform remote management/maintenance/repairs on systems which have failed, e.g. Windows won't start,
    vPro can be used to perform remote rebuild, remote access to BIOS/firmware settings, boot-over-LAN, remote KVM, etc. If your computer isn't part of an enterprise network with central/remote IT support, it's not really a loss to you...

  • *** FREE REMOTE DEBUGGER UTILITY ***

    I just created this "remote debugger" last week because I wanted to get runtime output from my servlets without having to resort to finding the server logs...scanning them...etc. It can also be used to log info locally. Here is the code for the screen logger:
    package com.mycode.remotedebugger.applet;import javax.swing.*;import java.awt.*;import java.awt.event.*;import java.net.*;import java.io.*;public class CRemoteDebugger extends JApplet implements Runnable{   boolean isStandalone         = false;   static ServerSocket m_socket = null;   JScrollPane jScrollPane1     = new JScrollPane();   static Thread runner         = null;   static Socket connection     = null;   BorderLayout borderLayout1   = new BorderLayout();   JTextArea jTextArea1         = new JTextArea();   /**    * Constructs a new instance.    */   /**    * getParameter    * @param key    * @param def    * @return java.lang.String    */   public String getParameter(String key, String def) {      if (isStandalone) {         return System.getProperty(key, def);      }      if (getParameter(key) != null) {         return getParameter(key);      }      return def;   }   public CRemoteDebugger() {   }   /**    * Initializes the state of this instance.    */   /**    * init    */   public void init() {      try  {         jbInit();      }      catch (Exception e) {         e.printStackTrace();      }   }   public boolean isConnected()   {      return m_socket != null;   }   private void jbInit() throws Exception   {      this.setSize(new Dimension(400, 400));      this.getContentPane().add(jScrollPane1, BorderLayout.CENTER);      jScrollPane1.getViewport().add(jTextArea1, null);      runner = new Thread(this);      runner.start();   }   public void run()   {      try {         m_socket = new ServerSocket(6666);         while(true)  {            InetAddress ia = InetAddress.getLocalHost();            connection = m_socket.accept();            InputStream is = connection.getInputStream();            BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(is));            String strLine = br.readLine();            while(strLine != null)  {               jTextArea1.append(strLine + "\n");               jTextArea1.setCaretPosition(jTextArea1.getDocument().getLength());               strLine = br.readLine();            }         }      } catch(Exception e)  {      }   }   /**    * start    */   public void start() {     setLookAndFeel();   }   /**    * stop    */   public void stop() {   }   /**    * destroy    */   public void destroy() {    if(m_socket != null)  {      try  {         m_socket.close();      } catch (IOException ioe)  {      }      m_socket = null;    }    if(runner != null)      runner = null;    if(connection != null)  {      try {         connection.close();      } catch(IOException ioe)  {      }         connection = null;    }   }   /**    * getAppletInfo    * @return java.lang.String    */   public String getAppletInfo() {      return "Applet Information";   }   /**    * getParameterInfo    * @return java.lang.String[][]    */   public String[][] getParameterInfo() {      return null;   }   /**    * main    * @param args    */   public static void main(String[] args) {      CRemoteDebugger applet = new CRemoteDebugger();      applet.isStandalone = true;      JFrame frame = new JFrame();      frame.setTitle("Remote Debugging");      frame.getContentPane().add(applet, BorderLayout.CENTER);      applet.init();      applet.start();      frame.setSize(400, 420);      Dimension d = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getScreenSize();      frame.setLocation((d.width - frame.getSize().width) / 2, (d.height - frame.getSize().height) / 2);      frame.setVisible(true);      frame.addWindowListener(new WindowAdapter() {        public void windowClosing(WindowEvent e) {          if(m_socket != null)  {             try  {                m_socket.close();             } catch (IOException ioe)  {             }             m_socket = null;          }          if(runner != null)            runner = null;          if(connection != null)  {             try {               connection.close();          } catch(IOException ioe)  {          }          connection = null;        }           System.exit(0);        }      });   }   void setLookAndFeel(){      try {         UIManager.setLookAndFeel(UIManager.getSystemLookAndFeelClassName());      }      catch(Exception e) {         e.printStackTrace();      }   }}
    I compiled this and put it into a jar file for easy running via a shortcut on my desktop.
    Here is the static function you would put either in your application/applet or perhaps in some utility class that you import:
    package com.mycode.common.utilities;import java.awt.*;import java.awt.event.*;import java.net.*;import java.io.*;public class RemoteDebugMessage{   static Socket m_socket            = null;   static PrintWriter serverOutput   = null;   /**    * Constructor    */   public static void Print(String strClient, int nPort, String strMessage)   {      try {         m_socket = new Socket(strClient,nPort);         if(m_socket != null)  {            OutputStream os = m_socket.getOutputStream();            if(os != null)  {               serverOutput = new PrintWriter(new BufferedOutputStream(m_socket.getOutputStream()),true);               if(serverOutput != null)  {                  serverOutput.println(strMessage);               }            }         }      } catch(IOException ioe)  {      }      try {         m_socket.close();         m_socket = null;         serverOutput = null;      } catch(IOException ioe)  {      }   }}
    The "server" side listens on port 6666 (you can always change to whatever port you like and recompile) Then, in your code where you wish to watch messages in realtime, you call the static function above:
    RemoteDebugMessage.Print("MachineName",6666,"This is my message!");
    Where "MachineName" is the name of your pc.

    Thank god for the scrollbars. :)
    Maybe you should repost and add proper newlines.

  • JDeveloper 10.1.3.4.0: Unable to find "Debugger - Remote" option

    According to the JDeveloper help:
    The remote debugging protocols are configured in Debugger - Remote page of the Preferences Dialog.
    I do not see a "Debugger - Remote" option in the preferences dialog.
    There are a bunch of options under "Debugger" but "Remote" is not one of them.
    Thanks,
    Jonathan

    The Remote debugging options are available under Project Properties (Not preferences...) ->Run/Debug->Edit... ->Tool Settings ->Debug ->Remote
    Remote debugging and profiling should also be enabled under the Launch settings node.

  • If VS 2008 'Remote Debugger' is added to an existing VS 2008 install, should VS 2010 first be uninstalled?

    I found that Visual Studio 2008 Remote Debugger was not included when Visual Studio 2008 was installed.  I also have Visual Studio 2010 installed.  Should Visual Studio 2010 be uninstalled prior to installing Visual Studio 2008
    Remote Debugger?
    Thanks

    Hi Bontrager,
    Based on your issue, I know that since the different Visual Studio versions exist as separate applications. So if you want to install the Visual Studio 2008 Remote Debugger, you will not need to uninstall Visual Studio 2010.  Visual Studio 2010 will
    not affect you install the Visual Studio 2008 Remote Debugger.
    Hope it help you!
