Remote lock & Memory card corrupted issue

Remote lock & Memory card corrupted issue
Hi Dear Friends,
You might have experienced the "Memory card corrupted issue."
Don't panic! The solution is here!
Your memory card is just 'locked', it isn't 'corrupted'!
For sure, this post would be of great help to you, if:
• You have enabled the "Remote lock" feature of your Nokia device.
• You have sent the remote lock message to your device and locked it remotely.
Finding the solution really took me a lot of time. I was inspired by various posts on the Discussion, and decided to find the official notes on the issue. So would like to thank those who shared their tips, and helped us solve this problem.
I'm using E66, (you might use something else), and would refer to E51's and E65's User guide so often.
Of course, I'm not going to explain the instructions, and recommend you to refer to your user guides when needed.
On the contrary, I'm going to explain what may not be mentioned in your user guides.
Let’s Begin
What Has Happened:
In short, you attempted to test the feature, your phone was locked, you keyed in the lock code, code was accepted, you used the phone for a while, switched it off, powered it on, you were prompted the Lock code, you keyed in the lock code, code was accepted, you attempted to view some stuff that was on your memory card, you didn't find it, you tried to run a program that was installed on your memory card, the program icon didn't open, you put the memory card in the card reader and connected it to PC, it was not detected, you went to Menu> Tools> Memory card> You saw "Memory card corrupted"!
Don't, don't select the Yes selection key if you got the caution message, "Memory Card corrupted, reformat it?" because your memory card isn't corrupted, it's simply being locked!
But you can't find the unlock memory card command in Menu> Tools> Memory card> Options.
So? What to DO?
1. (This step is optional) Disable the Remote lock feature.
(Refer to your user guides) and change Allow Remote Lock> to no.
Then, while the unit is on,
2. Press the power key briefly, and select Remove memory card.
3. Remove the memory card from the slot.
4. Press OK if prompted.
5. Reinsert the memory card in the slot.
6. Reopen Menu> Tools> Memory card.
Is your memory card detected? If yes!
7. Follow tips number 2 & 3 of What to Know section below.
Did you get "Password removed" message?
If no, be careful of the case of the first character.
If you had changed the Remote lock message many times, use the one that was practically sent to the device via text message.
. In case you had set a password on your memory card before, you may also attempt to unlock the locked memory using your own password, not the first eight characters of the remote lock message.
Step seven would make the memory card detectable to the connected card reader to the PC too.
8. The memory card is detected temporarily, but it is locked and the "memory card corrupted" issue reappears every time you switch off/on the phone, unless you successfully complete step seven.
What to Know?
Official User guide Tips:
1. Remote locking also locks your memory card. (E51 page100)
. Yes, the one mobile phone that sends your device the predefined remote locking message, receives the confirmation message in response, indicating, "Mobile telephone and memory card are locked". But it isn't written in E66's and E65's.
2. To unlock the memory card, select Menu> Tools> Memory> Options> Remove password, and "enter the remote locking message as the password". (E51 page100)
. Yes, quite clear, but the quoted part ("enter the remote locking message as the password") isn't written on my E66's User guide, and there's a vague precaution on E65's, (refer to number 4).
3. If the message is longer than 8 characters, the first 8 characters are used as the memory card password. (E51 page100)
. Yes, quite clear good E51, but I don't own you; I have E66 your little sister. I owe my memory card's survival to nice users on the Discussion.
4. The maximum number of characters allowed is 8. Using more than 8 characters could prevent unlocking the memory card and require reformatting it. If reformatting the memory card is required, all information on the card will be lost. (E65 page28)
. Quite interesting, but it contradicts what good E51 says in number three¡!
. And it contradicts my own experience of the issue (and some other users' on the Discussion) too, since my E66's memory card accepted the 'first eight characters' of the 'ten-character long’ remote lock message that I had previously used to remote lock it.
. The first three tips are quite important and shouldn't have been excluded from E66's and E65's user guides. I don't have the time to download and review all the user guides that support this feature, but at least I read some user manuals and also got the impression (from the posts on the discussion) that there had been not enough information on E66's, E65's, E71's, N96's, and some others.
You may like to do a simple search on Google:
"The first 8 characters are used as the memory card password" site:nokia.com
Since the content of the user guides on the server seem not be searchable for any reason, you won't find any official support result except those of the good users on the Discussions. And the 'Nokia Site Search" brings no result too. (At least on the date of this post).
¡ Terribly sorry for those who have selected Yes to the Reformat caution message. It wasn't your fault. But there's an idiom that says, sleep on it! "Think about it for a while before coming up with a decision".
But now that you have tested the feature and know its solution, don't be afraid, and enable the Remote lock feature again! God forbid, but it may be needed one day!

Dear, I guess, / This article doesn't suit your case. / • You have not enabled the "Remote lock" feature of your Nokia device. / • You have not locked your device remotely. / Because you don't know where the remote lock is and haven't played with its settings. / You need to explain what has happened. / The only thing we get is that your memory card doesn't open. / 1. your phone model, e.g., 5130. / 2. What did you do recently that might have caused this issue? / 3. What methods did you try to unlock it? / Use some of the tips provided above. (except number 1). / Yours

  • E61 - Memory Card Corrupt

I bought a Kingston 512mb MiniSD card along with my new Nokia E61. But after few hours, the data saved in it was inaccessable, and message was "Memory card corrupt".
I removed it put it back, and the message was still there. After few hours I put it bnack in, and now it worked (for few hours). I tried formating it in both FAT/FAT32 formats. But the card always remained accessable through Card Reader and not the phone.
I finally got it replaced with another piece and the problem was in there too, which makes me feel that maybe there is some compatibility issue with my phone. What do you suggest I try?

Hi, actually I came across the same problem as yours. I got the exactly the same SD card. In the beginning, everything works fine from the SD, after few days when I tried to run the applications installed on the SD, the phone showed me "system error (-1)", which means the phone cannot find the specified file/path. The solution is now to press the power button and choose the option of "remove mem.", then it works find until the next switch on.
And also it is frequently reboot or hang-up. I am think this should be the firmware problem, and really hope can update the firmware from PC or in other ways. This phone is right now the pain in the .... for me.

    Hey lahiruthisaru,
    Welcome to the discussion board!
You should try to format your memory card via your PC, or try to perform a Hard reset with your Memory card inserted in your phone.
Hope this help, please let us know!

  • "Memory Card Corrupted" - Error Help!!!

Hi, I have a Nokia 6210 Navigator, and my memory card suddenly stopped working when I was opening a file. A message came up "Memory Card Corrupted". When I went into File manager, it showed my memory card as not there (grayed out). When I tried to explore it within my phone, there was no option to format, and there was a message "Memory Card Corrupted" on the screen.
When I connected my phone via Mass Storage Mode, it showed it as a drive, though when I tried to open it, it said "Insert a disk into I:\". It does not show up in Disk Management or CMD, and when I tried to format or run Check Disk, it would not run - "Drive not Ready". When I connected it into PC Suite Mode, I could perform a backup, though when I checked it could only backup my Phone Memory, not the card. The other modes don't work either.
I have tried many different softwares to try and backup/recover my data, and to try and format it, though that didn't work either
I have tried restarting my phone many times, but that didn't work either.

no other way to fix it unfortunately. unless you want to go to the trouble of taking your phone to your local Nokia Care Centre, where they will probably do the same thing anyway and you will still have to setup all your applications etc again. those messages are due to the phone thinking that the memory card isn't inserted when it is, so obviously it is a phone problem. another suggestion would be to check that the memory card is inserted correctly and to clean the contacts for the memory card (i.e. gently blow out the dust with a deep breath). if the card is the default one that came with the phone in the box, its most likely the Nokia one. i have the feeling they're manufctured under licence by SanDisk anyway.
yes, firmware updates can bring advantages such as bug fixes, new features and improved battery life. it is generally recommended to keep the phone up to date anyway to ensure its longevity and increased reliability and security. i know its a pain, but you will have to do the hard reset now that you have backed up all your data. let us know how it goes.
if you could, please throw some kudos our way, it would mean a lot to us
If you found this or someone's comments helpful or like what that person has to say, please give some Kudos to their post!

  • Camera/memory card connection issue

I installed the packaged software that came with my Nikon D5000 camera and plugged the camera into the USB port using the included cable. My computer doesn't seem to recognize the camera at all. I tried a different cable and each of the 4 ports. The system profiler does not show any devices connected to the USB bus. So I inserted the memory card (ScanDisk 8GB) into the internal memory card reader on the side of my iMac. The card was not recognized by iPhoto, ImageCapture, or Nikon Transfer. The images on the card are all in JPEG/RAW formats.
Is this a software or hardware issue? Can I get the images onto my computer without purchasing an external card reader?

First, I do not have a Nikon (Canons only); however, there usually is no need to install the included software, which may or may not be compatible with SL.
My Canon also uses SDHC cards (and the format is .jpg, RAW or a video); I do not hook up my camera to preserve the batteries - instead, I do use a card reader (it actually came with the cards) and the card/reader icon immediately shows on my desktop.
So, do you have your Preferences set (in Finder) to show external disks on the desktop?
And, what are your settings in the CD & DVD Pane in System Preferences?
And, what are the settings in iPhoto Preferences?
You can set it up for a particular application to open as soon as a card is inserted - or not. I've chosen not to have anything open automatically; I prefer sorting the pics in Preview first and then deciding where/how they should be processed. Your camera is listed here as being supported:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3825
I would suggest first to check all the settings; if that does not work, trying an external card reader - they are rather inexpensive. Also, check to make sure that the software you installed is fully compatible with 10.6.6.

  • Nokia 5800 Memory Card Corruption

Hi I have had my 5800 for going on 6 months now and have started to run into problems which i thin are being caused by the memory card.
    1. The music player wil not start with the card inserted ( got an error about a corrupt database)
    2. Unable to download files from the internet ( error message unable to downlaod file ...)
    3. Data being lost on the memory card and having to format and re install all my data ( have done this once)
     i have also done a hard rest (red+green +camera)
wondering if any of these problems have been seem befor and if you could sujest solutions

memory card corruption is common. i am surprised that the one supplied with your phone lasted this long. you can try to reformat the memory card and see if this helps any. if not just buy another card. yes such behaviors can be seen in phones with corrupted memory cards but not only.

  • Memory Card Corruption (E51)

    Hi there,
I recently upgraded the memory card on my phone from 1Gb to 8Gb. After about a week the memory card has become corrupt. The memory card is a SanDisc 8Gb SDHC.
Can i do anything to prevent future corruption?
Message Edited by exactiv on 25-Mar-2009 10:17 AM

Physically, memory cards are quite fragile pieces of high technology, susceptible to damagefrom various silly things like excessive heat, condensation, strong magneticfields, physical damage from rough handling and/or bending! (similar to mostelectronic devices then..)
Given thenatue of mobile memory card products, they are constantly being taken in andout of some form of interface with a mobile phone, a camera, a laptop, ordesktop PC, or a separate memory card reader. The number of different devicesthey have to be able to interact with is in the thousands.
It is nottoo surprisingly, then that sometimes the state of the file system on thememory card can get damaged.
This mayhappen for a number of different reasons, including:
removingthe card from a device whilst an application is trying to read/write to it..(Just be patient...)
batterydrain on a device whilst in use meaning an insufficent voltage failure whilstwriting to the card.
a poorimplementation of the MMC standard on the device using the card
poorconnectivity software drivers on the device or the Windows PC/Mac
physicaldamage like card or device being dropped, bent, getting wet etc...
lots ofother reasons, i am sure..
As oftenas not, the problem is not terminal for your memory card, but just a softwareissue ( or in physical terms, it could be called "a temporary disalignmentof the all the bits and bytes on the card").
The fixfor this problem is the same as for any other file storage device (like afloppy or hard drive) with corrupt or invalid file system, namely; re-formatthe file system.
    [Re-Formattingyour Mercury Memory MMC Card]
It ispossible that your mobile will offer you the option of formatting the memorycard if it is found to be invalid. (However, the likes of Nokia nGage, Nokia6600, and Siemens Sx1 often just prefer to reject the media as corrupted).hopethis will help

  • SD Card Corruption Issue?

    Hi there,
I believe there is a cross-platform problem with Android causing the SD card to become corrupted, specifically with photo/video files.
I'm wondering if anyone has any solid answers to this problem (a Google search of the title of this thread in Android forums will find many results, but little in the way of answers).
    Here's what's happening to my Droid X
I start taking pictures and or video.  Everything is fine till suddenly photos go missing.  I'll take a photo and it will not save.  If I stop here and reboot my phone I'm all set, but if I take another picture all hell breaks loose on the SD card.  I'll go into the gallery and see that the last few photos have a blank thumb nail and show as 1Kb files.
If I don't do anything and go back into the gallery, with each visit to the gallery more photos become corrupted.  Photos that were OK yesterday would be 1Kb empty files today.  Attempts to recover the photos using file recovery software have not worked.
If I put the SD card in my PC and run a check disk scan on it I get a "Windows has made corrections to the file system" message. Once repaired things work great again until some random point when it happens again. I can even leave the corrupted photo files on the card, the root of the problem is the file system corruption. If I take the extra step of formatting the SD card it seems to stay stable longer before the file system crashes. The problem seems to make other problems worse, most notably my battery life takes a dive when the problem occurs, and a format will literally double my battery life on standby.
This is my second Droid X with the exact same problem (it was a warranty replacement for this issue, the ease with which the Verizon people agreed to send me a new phone made me think this is a wide problem, they never even asked me to trouble shoot it).  The first time it happened I didn't know what was going on and the error got so bad that it destroyed by SD card (the stock one).  After replacing the SD card the phone began to run great, battery life improved noticably, very few slow downs or crashing programs, then the next time I noticed corrupted photo files the phone became temperamental again until I formatted the SD card again.
Its my belief there is something wrong with the software and I've run into a number of other people who have the same problem on a number of different Droid platforms.  I think for me the problem began with the release of Gingerbread, I used to use this phone's amazing camera all the time and never had the problem.  Now I'm lucky if I can take a half dozen photos before I have to reformat the SD card.  If I don't use the camera the card does not get corrupted.
    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I had a similar problem, but it turned out to be a mechanical problem. My Macbook Pro was not "seeing" the little lock switch. I've found pushing my card back towards the screen (towards the lock switch) clears up my problem.
Now I need to decide how annoyed I am with this and wether I want to trouple with my Apple Care.

  • Memory Card Issue with my BlackBerry Curve 9300

    Hello,
I have been using the memory card for more than a year. It's a SanDisk or a ScanDisk memory card. It's 8 GB. I didn't use the card that came with my BlackBerry Curve 9300 phone. I'm always trying to delete files or to copy files, most of them are music files from my laptop to the memory card via memory card reader.
Now I am encountering a message that I need to repair the memory card whenever I try to insert it to my phone again. And most of the time whenever the phone automatically repairs it, some files are corrupted or considered as a "lost chunk files".
How can I recover those files? And why did it happen or always happen in the first place?
According to this site, you need to reformat it: http://www.techtalkz.com/tips-n-tricks/1535-memory-card-corrupted-here-solution.html
So what I did is to copied everything to my laptop then reformatted it completely.
It kinda solved the issue but for how long will I won't be experiencing the "repair memory card" issue and the "lost chunk files" issue?
Do I need another program to reformat the memory card and not to use the one that comes with every windows computer?
Does using a memory card reader or using a memory card adapter (for the microSD card) corrupts the memory card?
I have been researching on how to completely recover the files but I'm a bit confused.
There are a lot of recovery programs out there.
Can you guys help me out here? Thanks.

I think you should try each and everyone of the solutions suggested in the link I provided, given that it covered both harware and software suggestions. And always reset the device by removing the battery whilst the device is powered-on. Leave the battery out for a minute or 2 after each step.
See if that resolves the problem.

  • Problem with memory card slot on nokia c5 03

    Sir,
    I have a Nokia C5 03 from the last 8 months.....
    Working very well.
Recently, my memory card stopped working.
I thought that there might be a problem in the memory card and bought a new one.
Even though i inserted new card in my phone, i am getting the same error.
In file manager it is displaying as "Memory card Corrupted."
I have checked the new memory card by inserting in to another phone which was working normally.
There i have even formatted the new memory card and again inserted into my c5.
Then also i am getting the same error message........
Can any one suggest me what to do in this regard??????
    Thanks in ADVANCE.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi,
    Welcome to the forum!
Have you also tried inserting the old memory card to another phone as well? What happened after inserting it to another phone? If it's working properly with another phone, the memory card slot of the C5-03 might have an issue so you should bring it to the repair facility to have it checked.
You can search for the nearest repair facility in your area from this link: http://www.nokia.com/in-en/care-point-finder/
    Hope this helps.

  • 5230 - Won't recognise 16GB SDHC Memory Card, but ...

Hi, I have the Nokia 5230 smartphone.I used an old 256MB Micor SD card for a month with no problems.
However, I have just brought a new 16GB Micro SD SDHC memory card. Upon insertion it worked first time - I could download music etc. 12 hours later, I couldn't play the music I'd downloaded and  when I opened the card in 'file manager' was told "memory card corrupted". However, when I connected the phone to my PC in 'mass storage' mode I was able to access all of the music. i.e. the card was still working fine as far as my PC was concerned, but the phone would not recognise it. (In PC Suite mode, the card was not recognised)
I reformatted in FAT32 mode. Again it started fine, but about 12 hours later my phone stopped playing in the middle of the song and again file manager stated "memory card corrupted".
    Any thoughts?
Is it the phone not working with a 16GB SDHC card?
Or is the card? - it was brought from Hong Kong of ebay....grateful for a quick response, as I need to know whether to send it back!
    Thanks,
    Primo

Or is the card? - it was brought from Hong Kong of ebay....grateful for a quick response, as I need to know whether to send it back!
Contact Pay Pal first   then send it back and never ever buy memory from HK.
You could connect in mass storage mode and run scan disc  .

  • N97 Memory in use and memory card not present issu...

    Hello,
I bought my Nokia N97 2 weeks ago from your website. I switched my old phone data over to the new one, transfer few document, music onto the new phone from my PC and updated software last week. It worked for up until now but yesterday I all of a sudden
    - while I was playing music got a message saying files have been corrupted, it stopped playing music and deleted all documents from the E drive.
    - I went into the file manager but I could not access my E: Mass Storage drive anymore (from file manager) as it says 'memory in use'.
    - I connected the phone through USB cable to my PC, select PC suite on my phone but I got a message on the phone screen which said "Memory card not present (USB card may not work as expected)"even though I used it last week. However, while USB is connected, I could see the 'Phone Browser' on my explorer on my PC but no mass storage
    - I have restarted several times, took the battery in and out and tried but no luck.
    - I did a hard reset on the phone (*#7370#), it reset everything but no luck on the E: Mass Storage as it still says 'memory not in use'
    - I tried software update, it refreshes the list and does not update anything when I click on it.
    - I went to Nokia Care Centre and they failed to fix the issue (after doing a reboot) and asked me to send the faulty phone back.
I bought the phone from mobilephonesdirect.co.uk - when I called them, they were quite hostile and asked me to email ([email protected]). I emailed but the response time is apparently 5 days. The guy on the phone tells me since the phone is 7 days older they cannot replace it. I called the insurance guys, they said because it is a manufacturer issue its not covered by the insurance. I called the repair centre recommended by mobilephonesdirect, they said if nokia care centre cannot repair it, there is no point in sending in the phone.
Now what do I do? Does anyone know how to fix this "memory not present" issue?

Hi mate, Not sure how to fix the problem ,but you have the right for this to be sorted.
I take it you bought it from a website or over phone, this is classed as distance selling, That means you are entitled to 7 days "cooling off period" in which you can return the product no questions asked. I think this is where they are getting there 7 days from. It has nothing to do with faulty goods.     If the goods are faulty it breached the "Sales of Goods act 1979"  as the goods should be fit for purpose which yours is not.
The Sale of Goods Act makes reference to ‘the seller’, this is the shop, the retailer, or the individual you bought it from, and is who you made the contract with. It is not the manufacturer, and don’t let the shop tell you otherwise! If there is an obvious fault with the item at any time within the first 6 months and it has not been caused by wear and tear or misuse, your first port of call must be the shop you bought it from. They have the responsibility to put the matter right, and should not evade this responsibility by referring you to the manufacturer in the context of a guarantee or warranty. Even after this 6 month period, if the item breaks down prematurely , you should always go back to the shop or retailer in the first instance.
Your statutory rights under the Sale of Goods Act take precedence over and above any warranty or guarantee you may have with either the retailer or manufacturer. It is misleading for a shop to tell you they can do nothing simply because their warranty or guarantee has run out, because you will still have your statutory rights.
I have an n97 and my key lock slider just came off. I had to argue untill I was blue in the face that it is a fault and not over use (its the most pressed key on the phone) Finally they sent it off for repair for me.
Hope all this helps a little. There is more info on many websites on Sales of goods act which may also help you.
    Regards
    Jesta

  • Nokia C5-03 memory card issue

I have C5-03 for a couple of weeks only, but there's one annoying issue concerning the memory card (which came with the phone)
Sometimes (and it happens often and often) there's a message that pops up
"Can't remove memory card without selecting "remove memory card" first." In result the memory card is no longer acceptable.
At first I thought I haven't locked the touchscreen and I have accidentally pressed something. But this have happened last night, while my phone was on a shelf, and a few moments ago while it was lying on the desk next to me. I see the message after I unlock the phone. Restarting it helps, but it's not a solution.
    Any suggestions?

REMOVE THAT 2GB AND GO FOR 8GB OR 16GB .
use more memory FOR LONGER USAGE THEN THERE IS NO ERRORS AGAIN I AM ALSO HAVING C5 03 and using 8GB.......
