Remote panel file browser help

1. On my host machine I have a vi for controlling a microscope, camera, stage, etc.... When I login remotely from a client machine, I want to set the directory on the Host to which images will be saved. But when I click on the file browser I can only browse on the client.
2. When remotely controlling panel from client, I need to load a *.log file of stage coordinates which are stored on the host. How do I browse the host. I am getting error 43 now and labview is stops running.
Thanks,
Elliot

Hi Elliot,
when you publish a vi by the LV Web server, only the vi front panel is exchanged. If the vi opens a file dialog this will not be published because it is not part of the vi front panel.
An option is to build a sub-vi that displays a files/directories list in a listbox and use it to select a specific file/directory, obvioulsy the subvi should also be published by the WEB server. Note that the list box handles the double-click property, thus you can select an item by simply double-click on it.
I understand this envolves some extra programming and the appearance would not be the same as a standard file dialog, but at the moment it's the only idea I got.

  • How to make a remote panel file dialog open remote directory from any computer

Hello to everybody. I am using Labview 6.1 and I would like to know how to make a remote panel file dialog open remote directory from any computer (Not only from a specific computer. If I open the file with a specific computer, I have to conect the path of the remote machine, but if I don´t know which remote computer is going to run the aplication, how can I do it?)?

    Hi!
first you have to know progammatically the name of the remote pc connected to your server: this is a problem!
I did not find a straigth way, LV 6.1 doesn't allow much progammatic control on the remote panel connection feature, but I'm confident that in the next LV version this will be improved!
The point is that the Remote Panel Connection Manager (from the Tools menu) has all the informations about the connection: client name, server vi and whatever.
This application is embedded in the \PROJECT\REMOTEPANEL.LLB and consists of a set of password protected vis.
So here's the trick: use VIServer to grab data from the rpcm Get Server Data.vi when the Remote Panel Connection Manager is in run mode. By this you get all the informations (not only client name)o
f the remote panel connection. See my example.
By the way use client machine name to build the file dialog function input path.
If anybody has an alternative method it would be more than appreciated to share it.
    Good luck,
    Alberto Locatelli

When I run the application from the server machine, I have no problem, the dialog box "save as" opens and I save there my file with al the data, but when I control the application remotely, the dialog box "save as" does not open, and I get the error 43. Do you know what do I have to do if I want to run and control the aplication from a remote machine and save all the data in a file?

  • How to Detect LV runtime engine prior to showing Remote panel in browser?

I work on a web server that delivers remote panels embedded in browser windows.  On new machines, the labview runtime engine needs to be downloaded and installed.
Currently, when a new user 'hits' the remote panel, the user is prompted and then downloads the component.  However, the user experiences some errors that can be confusing.  The first time, the remote panel is not embedded properly and the user must go 'BACK' then reload the page.
We would like to check and detect whether the LVRT engine is installed prior to posting a webpage that contains a remote panel.
What is the best way to detect whether the LVRT engine is installed on a remote computer?

My brain is swimming... I haven't had enough coffee this morning... There is a chicken and egg issue.  As soon as I post the page, the client knows it needs to install the Labview runtime engine.  However, my Labview process has already attempted to place the remote panel in the page.   I get an error.  I'll admit that I haven't delved into my software since there are two spawned processes involved.  One process responds to the request and another lingers in memory running the remote panel until the user finishes.
From my perspective my lingering process should be sufficient to get the remote panel displayed when the RTE in finished installing but here is the catch.  Installing the RTE requires a reboot, therefore the server process would need to linger in memory a long time and then would need to recoginize that a user from the same computer and login is looking for the page.  Not really the way to go.  I can't have a process on the server lingering waiting for a user to reboot his computer and then do something when they start running again.  That process needs to die right away if the RTE is not available.
    Jim
Would it be possible for this lingering process to check to see if the web server read has timed out?  The default is 60 seconds, and you can change it by going to Tools>>Options>>Web Server: Configuration.

  • Anyway to bring up a file dialog box on a remote panel

A user is requesting a file dialog box to be opened.  The problem is his program is on a remote system, and I'm utilizing remote panels to bring the app to his control console.  File dialogs don't seem to work, for mostly obvious reasons.  Other dialog boxes appear just fine.  Is there anyway to provide a file dialog box of the remote panel's computer's file structure?  Or do I need to build in the feature?

Doing a search on "remote panel file dialog" gave me a bunch of hits.
In one of the threads, there was a link to File dialog to use in Remote Panel applications

  • Labview Remote Panel and Client Aspect Ratio

    Dear all professionals,
I had create an application with remote panel (webserver) enabled. I found that there is relationship between aspect ratio of client device display and the remote panel screen size. Here i attached two images of remote panel in browser which both remote panel are opened using different aspect ratio of client device.
The left 1 is the device with 1.5 aspect ratio while the right 1 is the device with 1.78 aspect ratio.
As you can seen from the images, both remote panel are shown in different size. May i ask do i miss something in the remote panel configuration?

    Hi Michel,
Thank you for your reply. I also notice that the zoom % of browser is one of the issue that caused this behaviour. In the same aspect ratio with server computer( where the application running), changing zoom to 100% will help to fit remote panel that I already set when I developing the remote panel vi. But if for different aspect ratio, no matter how u change the zoom % , it won't fit the frame. I just wondering whether got another solution for this issue or not :-(

  • LV2010 and cFP-2120 and remote panel

I have a project in LV2010 for cFP-2220.  When I convert the project for a cFP-2120, the remote panel doesn't work.  When the browser goes to the IP address it defaults to 192.168.1.2/#Home.

The remote panels and browser control work fine for the 2220. I inserted the 2120 into the project in place of the 2220 and modified the fieldpoint paths in the vis. I upgraded the software on the 2120 using LV 2010. The original program was written for the 2120 in earlier versions of LV. It was updated to LV 2010 and adapted for the 2220 along with program feature updates related to pumps and other necessary system component changes. Maintenance and support of our customers units involves replacing pumps and other components and/or replacing their 2120's. We are trying not having to replace their 2120's.
When we deploy the program as a startup it runs controls and collects data, but the remote panel access with Internet Explorer isn't working. We have tried creating a new index.htm.

  • File Dialog's using Remote Panels (via web server)

I am aware that the web server remote panel access will not allow us to open a file dialog box on a remote computer.  I have read people comment that you should create your own file dialog box, using LabVIEW to use instead of the file dialog box.
Has anyone actually done this?  I would like know if anybody has source code for this, rather than re-inventing the wheel.  Also, will the sub-vi actually just appear on the webserver? i.e. will it actually work?
    Thanks for any help

    Hi Emilie,
I have a program that I run on an industrial PC, with no keyboard, video or mouse.  We currently control the application using the web server.  We have a button to load and a button to save settings.  If the files are missing for the load & save, it pops up a file open dialog to choose the file to import.  However, while we are viewing the page this way, these dialog boxes do not work.
I would like to know if anyone has made up a file dialog box that I could use, that would display correctly in the web server's remote control.

This help topic describes how to add the ... button on the function panel and associate a callback to it.
You could start from the example from samples\functionpanels\Customization\SelectColor.cws and write a function like this:
int DLLEXPORT CVICALLBACK SlectPath (FPCustomInfo *info)
        char path[MAX_PATHNAME_LEN];
        int parameter;
        FPCustom_GetSelectedParameter (info, &parameter);
        FileSelectPopupEx ("", "*.*", "", "select file", VAL_OK_BUTTON, 0, 0, path);
/* additional processing to convert path into a string literal - enclose in quotes and
replace special characters like '\' into escape sequences */
        FPCustom_SetParamValue (info, parameter, path);

I have several machines running LabVIEW 8.2.1 my application uses remote panels embedded in a browser to display the front panel of the running VI. One machine is responding with the brower window coming up, but when the VI is launched it is displayed on the remote machine as a stand-alone remote front panel. About half of the machines have had InternetToolkit intalled, at least one machine that is working does not. the machine in question does not. Could this be part of the problem.
The enclosing web pages are generated by a .Net web server running on port 80, LabVIEW web server on port 81.
Example object block from the generated page. Other than machine and vi information I do not se any differences between the applications.

    Kevin,
    Thanks for the reply.
Attached is a screen shot of the problem. This is from my home machine which does not have a LabVIEW environment installed, but does have runtime plug-ins for 7.1 & 8.2.1. I also get similar results on my development machines.
The serving machines are all on campus.
The remote front panel on the left is what I expected to see embedded in the 'loading ....' field on the Web page on the right.
The application [ The iLab Project ] is complex and uses a collection of .Net Web Services to provide access to remote labs using the Internet.
Access to an iLab Lab Server running on port 80 is authorized by a Service Broker, normally running on another machine. The Lab Server, LabVIEW environment and measurement hardware are normally on the same machine, iLab Lab Server using port 80, LabVIEW WebServer using port 81.
Once the user is authorized and redirected to the Lab Server the Lab Server ensures that LabVIEW is running and the specified VI is loaded, a web page is generated on port 80 that includes the OBJECT block to display the front panel from port 81. Example OBJECT block included in my original post.
I have used this code on three other 8.2.1 Lab Servers with different VI's and the Front panel is displayed in the web page as expected.
Variations of the code have been used since LabVIEW 7.0. Prior to version 8.2 the InternetToolkit, GWeb Server and a custom CGI VI were used to generate the contents of an in-line frame to display the Front Panel. Since 8.2 I generate the Object block directly as part of the aspx processing. Is it possible I need the InternetTookit installed even if it is not used, I'm pretty sure one of my working systems has never had the toolkit installed, the machine in question has not.
I hope this makes my problem clearer, any help, pointers or further questions will be appreciated.
    Phil

  • Browser can't load HyperTrend in a Remote Panel Application

I use the Remote Panel Function (LabVIEW6.1 + DSC6.1)to publish a Front Panel.
When I load the Front Panel with a Browser (IE6 or NS7) i can see all elements on the Front Panel except the HyperTrend.
I get an empty space where is written "Element could not be loaded".
This appears only on machines, where no LabVIEW is installed. (But of course the Run Time Engine 6.1)
    What could be the reason?
    Thanks for all help
    Thomas

    Thomas,
I think you don't have the ActiveX control on your remote computer.
You might copy the hypertrend.dll from your DSC computer to the remote computer and run regsvr32 "c:\winnt\system32\hypertrend.dll" to register the activeX control.
With this you might see the ActiveX control in the Remote Front Panel.
However, I don't know exactly if you would see traces and if you could browse back to the remote database. For sure you would need as well Logos/Citadel services running on the remote computer to do that.
A good point about limitation of ActiveX controls in Remote Front Panel is menioned in : Why Doesn't My ActiveX Object Update In A Remote Panel?<

I need to execute a batch file which is located on a remote machine through my machine. I have no idea to go about with. Please can someone help me out with can be used to execute the remote bat file. I am at present using Runtime.exec() to execute it on my machine.. But i cant use it to execute teh bat file on teh remote machine. Please help

Below is an example server that would run on the remote host. You can connect to it using telnet from DOS prompt, it takes a Y/N to run your command in the cmd variable. I haven't included code for a client as it's really not needed for the example below.
Change the cmd and port variables to what you need. You may need to setup firewall rules to allow your chosen port.
Once it's running, you can test it by using "telnet localhost 1234" on your machine, localhost would obviously become the remote computer's hostname or IP.
I am incredibly new to Java (using the forums to learn bits), so excuse any bad coding practises, I'm sure people will point them out.
Keep in mind that this is totally insecure, so if you're using it on an untrusted network, you may want to look into encryption and providing some kind of password authentication, that, for the moment is out of my league.

As noted, this confuses the issue, since a possible answer was posted in the OTHER thread.. Check your server logs, you are probably timing out.. From prior threads with a similar issue:
Have a look at the httpd.conf file (or get your system administrator to look at it) and see what the value of TimeOut is set to. You may need to increase it in order to export large tables via APEX.
