Remote Printing in Solaris 8 across the network

Hi
I am trying to setup a printer on Solaris 8 server. The printer is located on the Client side outside our network and using the Axis Print Server.
The way it is setup is... print request goes through our server to a virtual IP which forward the request to firewall via port 515, which further forwards the request to client's firewall and then inturn to printer.
We have been able to setup the printer using the command:
lpadmin -p "printername" -s "VirtualIP"!"print Queue on the client side"
This works fine with the /usr/ucb/lpr command as the printer on the client side accepts only lpr command.
However, the problem is, when we print manually, it prints fine. However when we run a script which as an output fires multiple prints to the printer, the Printer prints coule of files which are smaller in size but does not print the bigger file and nothing after that. it just keep on sitting on the queue.
We have tried increasing the timeout to 120 secs but that didnt help either.
Please suggest if you have any idea about this or if you have done the similar kind of setup in the past.
Thanks in Advance.
Cheers.

Hello jnapier99
The Officejet 6500 E709n does have a Windows 8 driver, however, it does not have a Windows 8 RT driver which is what the MS Surface tablet uses. This would explain the message you are receiving.

  • View/Change User Accounts From Across The Network - Do not have Server

Is there a program or utility that can be run in Mac OS X Tiger or Leopard to manage user accounts on other Macs that are located across the network? Is there anything that will do this that is free, or not too much money?
Our setup: multiple Macs on a network that is primarily a Windows AD Domain. For various reasons, we do not have the Macs setup as members of AD. We also do not have a Mac OS X Server. I am wondering if there is something that is built-in, free, or on the cheaper-end, to manage user accounts and their permissions from across the network on the Macs?
    Thank you for your help!
    Dan

If the systems are not bound to a parent domain, then local account policy will need to be set individually. There is a way to get Workgroup Manager working on OS X client, but I do not know of a way for it to see remote NetInfo/DS Local data stores. It will only see the local store. NetInfo in the 10.2 days could pull this off. But Apple removed those features in favor of LDAP and eventually DS Local.
You will probably need to use a combination of tools. Start with defining base settings in the User Template to ensure that all new home folders are created equal. Then use ARD or ssh to define user policy with pwpolicy and other tools like niutil (Tiger) or dscl. Test with mcxquery. If you get Server Admin Tools, you can use Workgroup Manager to craft the needed xml for mcx values, then inject into the user account.
But this is only going to get you local policy. If users are connecting to file shares and mail, they are using their network credentials so those policies need to be managed at the domain level.
I would encourage binding the machines to the domain. While this can, and has (sadly), been done, being part of the domain is so much easier. If you need a system for storing the LDAP schema, get a Mini and do it on the cheap. Otherwise, consider AD schema modification and then practice your xml skills.
    Hope this helps

IPhone 4 could not capture remote Wi-Fi but can capture the network from close range to Ataatjos meter

I tried the process and was happy to note that there was some process that I managed to start because the process did start ...
However to my disappointment,  landed back at the same status which says
We're sorry, we are unable to continue with your activation at this time.
Please try again later, or contact customer care
I was using a GEVEY sim unlock with iOS 4.1 since (almost) last 2 yrs now in India on Vodafone. But as Apple designed it, there were several apps including Whatsapp, Facebook, Gmail and LinkedIn that stopped functioning due to the iOS updates and the subsequent (I guess 'mandatory' App updates). Finally yesterday I thought of updating to the iOS 6. As soon as I did that, I have been left with no choice but to see the above message.
The process by jhidrowoh starts corectly but iTunes doesnt give you the option of restore only ... it is forcefully clubbed with update and the button that is displayed in the dialog box that appears on pressing 'Restore' in teh recovery mode, shows 'Restore and Update' and as soon as the iPhone is restored, it automatically updates the iOS as well to iOS 6 and hence leaves you hanging in the stale situation.
Guys ... Need the data desperately ... Can anybody please help???

  • Failing IP communication across the network with 3750x

    Hi!
    I'm facing a very odd problem. A week ago I've installed a 3750x on a client.
On it, was connected, a Lan2Lan fiber channel(with IP associated directly to
     the interface) and a MPLS link(over a Cisco 2901) interconnecting a branch,
and several HP v1910 L2 swtiches.
By the day of the activation, everything works great. I have at this first moment,
configured static routes with IP SLA on the L2L link and, with higher cost on the
MPLS due the larger bandwidth of the L2L. It worked very well, and the tests of
    redundancy were ok.
My problems started a couple of days after. First, I've lost the IP communication
with the L2 switches from the stations, but, from the 3750x, they still were
    accessible(both telnet and ping).
And now, there's another problem. Because of a previous design, there are two
gateways configured across the network, all the stations and some servers,
use as the default gateway the IP 10.31.1.1, and several servers and other
appliances where configured with the gateway 10.31.1.2. So, as a workaround,
I had configured both address on the 3750x, the 10.31.1.1/16 as primary IP
and the 10.31.1.1/16 as secondary IP, both are on the VLAN 1 yet, as all the
devices. All the stations, servers and appliances are configured with
this /16 mask. And, it is working.
The problem is, every time that the communications between the branches
is changed from one link to the another, on some servers and appliances, after the IP SLA
take away the route, the communications only occurs if I manually change the
default gateway on the servers/appliance to the other IP, and, get back to the
    previous one.
Does anyone saw something like that?

    Carlos
The short answer is you can't as far as i know. You need to do NAT to able to do this and i don't think the Nexus switches support NAT.
You need a device that can NAT both address ranges. If prod is always the one that initiates the connection then you need static NAT translations for the test machines and you can dynamicaly NAT prod addresses as they go into the test env.
But if both prod and test can initiate connections then you need to have static NAT translations for both sides.
We used a pix firewall for this when we connected our prod and test environments. A firewall is a good choice because you can make the test enviornment the outside interface where all traffic is denied by default. You do not want test affecting prod.

  • Officejet 6500 won't print when Laptop is on the network.

We have a HP Officejet 6500 that connects to a laptop vis USB plug. It worked fine for a few weeks, but now anytime the laptop is connected to the office network by ethernet is will not print. Once you unplug the network cable from the laptop it prints fine. The laptop is running windows 7 and we installed the printer using the Windows 7 drivers from here. Please help!

This doesn't make sense. The printer is exhibiting behavior noticed when a network printer is connected to a laptop while the laptop is connected to a VPN. But in this case, neither the printer is connected on a network, not is the laptop connected to a VPN per se.
Are you sure all the latest drivers for your laptop have been installed? That's pretty much the only thing I can think of right now.

  • Print to windows remote printer from solaris Please help

    Hi,
I basically have 2 machines that are networked ( a solaris 9 sparc machine & a windows machine) The epson C42UX is on the Windows XP machine. I have samba set up on the Unix machine and can succesfully access solaris folders from the my network places folder in windows. My problem is that I want to print documents from my unix machine through the windows printer?
How would I go about doing this, I have searched the documentation for months and all I have come up with is lots of different ways of doing this none of which seem to work? Most of the methods refer to ancient equipment :-)
Also my Epson C42UX is connected to a USB port on windows USB0001 I think. Even if anyone could give me any links to a complete tutorial! I even have 2 samba books which mention about printer setup then conviently assume you no the most difficult parts.
Any Help would be greatly appreciated
iVE been at this for months ........I am starting to see why windows does so well
    Regards

  • Print spooler crashes whenever I try to print to Deskjet F4280 over the network.

    Greetings,
I have a nice and cheap F4280 connected to my computer via USB. My computer is running Windows XP SP3 (downgraded from Vista, had the same problem with Vista as well). I can print fine from my printer, but whenever I try to print from a laptop over the wireless network, the print spooler on my computer crashes and the F4280 doesn't do anything.
I downloaded a Microsoft tool to restart the print spooler, but when I resend the document to the printer over the netword, the spooler drashes again.
I've downloaded all the latest drivers, and attempted to run the critical patch, but an error message said I was already up to date and didn't need to install it.
    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Resolution/Fix:
You first need to clear out your print queue to prevent the print spooler from crashing again.
On the computer designated as the server do the following:
Stop the printer spool service by right clicking on your My Computer icon and selecting "Manage"
Expand "Services and Applications" and the click on services
Browse through the list of services and find "Printer Spooler".
Right click on the "Print Spooler" service and select "Stop" if Stop is grayed out or disabled and "Start" is an available option, then the service is already stopped.
    Go to the c:\Windows\System32\Spool\Printers folder
You should see some files in this directory with a .SHD file extension or a .SPL extension you will want to delete these. In some cases you may see other files in this directory as well, and in general it is safe to delete them. Files besides the .SHD and .SPL should be backed up before you delete them to be safe.
You may either reboot the computer or Start the "Print Spooler" service manually.
Once your print spool is clear you can now proceed with the following on the server computer:
Click on Start then control panel, and then Printer and Faxes
Right click on the HP Deskjet F4280 printer and select Properties
    Click on the Advanced tab
    Uncheck "Enable advanced printing features"
    Click the OK button
You should now be able to print fine from any computer on the network

  • Lightroom across the network, is there ANY way?

We have to process large catalogs with 8000 plus images and are under a time limit of about a week tp process them ...usually.
We put the catalog on one PC we call the Master and would like to be able to have other staff work on the catalog from one of the other PC's on the network. We have 12 PC's on a peer to peer network ( no server) and I need to split up the load and have several people working on it at once. I need to be able to open a catalog from another PC, while several other people are doing the same thing on different parts of the catalog so I can get these jobs out the door without one person or PC managing the whole job.
We don't put it on an external hard drive and move from one PC to another, that still defeats the purpose.
So far LR says it cannot work across a network, so I can't open a catalog from a laptop and work on the project from home ( for example) and I don;'t want to be duplicating all 8000 images on all the PC's so we are at a point where I need to ask for help...
Right now I export part of the master catalog to anoter PC with the oiginal images copied to the second PC, make my edits and Export back to the Master PC in a subfolder by the dancers name. Slow, but it does work. I would rather not have to do that on multiple machines to speed up the project.
Isn't there some way I can open the master catalog form another PC on the network, make the corrections and do the export right there?
Thanks everyone - any help is appreciated!

    No.
There are risky workarounds that allow you to open a catalog that's on the network, but none that allow multiple users to access the same catalog.  Any such workaround is a sure-fire way to corrupt the whole thing.

  • Is it possible to add an HP all in one printer to my vetwork via UBS on an Airport Extreme so that the scanner and print functions are available over the network?

Im very new to this "networking thing" so your patience is welcome. I have managed to get the Time capsual AE up and running and thanks to bonjour I have a printer via USB working. However, its an all in one machine and I can not work out how to get the scanner to work over the network - or even if its possible. Is this possible?

No, you cannot scan over the network, unless the printer has network capability.. in which case the printer must connect via ethernet or wireless not USB.
All USB printers are designed as local printers not network.

  • I deleted Bonjour, since I don't need it for remote printing.  Now I get the message " Airport Base Station has stopped working: and also a message saying APAgent.exe can't be found.  What to do??? Thanks.

I deleted Bonjour since I don't need it for remote printing.  Now on start-up I get the message: "Airport Base Station Agent has stopped working" and also message: "can't find APAgent.exe.:  Do I need AP Agent??  What to do??  Thanks.

The APAgent monitors your AirPort base station and informs you if there are things like firmware updates available. This utility relies on Bonjour, but is not required for base station operation. However, Bonjour makes it easier for your PC to "find" the base station via the AirPort Utility and I would recommend that you keep it installed. If you don't want the APAgent, you can just use the Apple Updater utility (that was also installed when the AirPort Utility was installed) to remove it.

  • Can't stay connected to my printer when I re-enter the network

We have had many issues with the HP printers over the years, but in fairness they work very well when everything is working.
We have 2 computers in our house, both had issues reconnecting to the printers when the network went down etc... But I have fiddled around, and changed the IP address to a static IP, and now one of the computers works beautifully! It always connects, no problems printing, and it can open the printer's page when it's ip address is typed in.
However the other computer, which is the same spec and has the same HP programs, cannot detect any printer on the network! I typed in the new static IP in this computer and it couldn't detect anthing, whereas the first computer is fine!
I turned the firewall off to check if it was the problem, but unfortunately still nothing can be detected.
I am an amateur, so Im sure I must be missing something obvious!
    Please help!
    Alex
EDIT: Ok I have been spending countless hours again looking into what could be the issue, I have found that on the working computer the printer is connected via WSD port while on the non-working computer the printer was trying to connect through TCP/IP ports... Is this significant? If so, how to I change port type on the non working computer?
    Thanks
    Alex

  • Digital Signatures Across the Network

    Hello,
We are currently working on a digital signature implementation across our network. What we want to do is set Acrobat to look for digital signatures in a specific location across all machines and profiles. • Sharing an SD card or USB stick across the network

Why won't OSX allow me to share a USB drive or SD card across my network? I can plug it into my Mac, go to System Preferences > Sharing, and add the card/stick/whatever as a Shared Folder, but the ' + - ' buttons allowing me to assign users to it are ghosted. Therefore it appears on my local network but it's inaccessible.
It's not the end of the world but it's not what I expected from "the world's most advanced desktop operating system". In fact it's something a PC could do at least three generations of Windows ago.
Am I missing something really obvious?
    Thanks

Try selecting a folder on that USB drive rather then the drive itself.
