Remotely Shutdown Mac/ Find IP Address from Back to My Mac

So I use Screen Sharing frequently with the Back to My Mac service with Mobile Me. Tonight I was screen sharing to my Mac Pro in my dorm room from my Macbook Pro at home, and changed the display resolution of the remote machine (MacPro), which now just shows up as a black screen, but I can still navigate through it's files using the Finder. I can't find a way to change the screen resolution back on it, so I figured I would just shut it down remotely until I can sit down in front of it. However, I don't know the IP address (since I just login via back to my mac). Is there some way I can get the IP address of my remote machine? That way I can remotely login through SSH and just shut it down via the terminal.

Can you go thru the Finder and pull up Safari or some browser for http://whatismyipaddress.com/ which will give your ip address(it gives my static address) and then in Terminal this command will show local addresses & foreign addresses,
doug-penningtons-power-mac-g4:~ dougp$ netstat
Active Internet connections
Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address (state)
tcp4 0 0 192.168.0.5.51493 192.168.0.4.vnc-server ESTABLISHED
I am doing this all thru screen sharing to give you an idea.
Local above is Leopard and foreign is Tiger(remote/foreign)

Where do I find notes synced from my iPod to Mac ?
I sync via iCloud, everything is up to date except I am running OS X Maverick, I have checked in Mail in my iCloud account: nothing there / checked in the Notes application on the Mac: nothing there. Notes are syncing in the iCloud system preference panel but are nowhere to be found...

Photos in the iPhone's Camera Roll are not included with the iTunes sync process except for being included with the iPhone's backup which is updated at the first step during the iTunes sync process if the iPhone was being backed up with iTunes on your computer.
Photos/videos in the iPhone's Camera Roll can and should be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera which is not handled by iTunes.

  • How do I find and then use back to my mac with ios5

I wish to be able to do unattended screen sharing over the internet (remote, not local network). I can't seem to see my remote computer on the finder as a shared device. Both computers (Macs) have correct settings in sys pref with screen sharing on and all users set. Is this also what is known as back to my mac, and if not, what is it. I am on Lion on both computers, using IOS 5.

  • Finding IP address from Client ID?

From an Android tablet:  How do I find the IP address of a computer in my network if the know the client ID? It's easy from a desktop:  I just bring up Hamachi and everything is revealed.  If I use the tablet browser to view my Hamachi networks (at the Hamachi site), the page is compressed horizontally and part of the IP address is hidden. Apologies if I have missed this in the documentation or knowledge base.

    try
request.getRemoteAddr() to get IP of Client
request.getRemoteHost() to get HostName of Client

  • Remove device from Back to My Mac

    Hello,
I have recently vacated a MacBook Pro running Mavericks as it was repurposed. I logged out of iCloud and deleted my account, but the computer remains in my sharing list on all my computers, as if Back to My Mac didn't get the memo. How can I manually remove this computer?

Go to your Apple ID and see if the computer is listed there. If so, remove it.

  • Macbook Pro running Snow leaopard can not share screen with Mac Pro running lion with "Back to my Mac"

Anyone else?  When I use back to my mac, I can get access to the files on my desktop, BUT, I can't screen share.  Screen share is sleected in settings and everything I know to check is set up right.  Back to my Mac ir running on both machines using the same sign in.
    Any ideas?
    Jon

Once you get yourself back to Snow Leopard, if you still want to upgrade somewhat, I would suggest the following:
    1. Get an external hard drive that you can use for experiments with new OS versions. You could partition it into 2 or 3 partitions. You could then clone your existing Snow Leopard system to one partition using Carbon Copy Cloner (well worth $40) or SuperDuper ($25).
    2. Buy OS X Mountain Lion for $20, through the Apple online store (I don't think it's available through the App Store). Apple has decided to make it very difficult for anyone to get Mavericks unless they have already downloaded it.
You will receive two e-mails from Apple, one containing a PDF with a redemption code, and one with the password you will need to unlock the PDF. Using the code, you will download Mountain Lion from the App Store, where it will appear among your Purchased items.
After ML finishes downloading, its installer app will launch itself. When you see this launch screen, QUIT the install app immediately! Go to your applications folder, find the Install OS X Mountain Lion app, and copy it to a safe location outside of your Applications folder. Keeping one or more copies will allow you to reinstall without unnecessary aggravation if you later need or want to do that. At this point, you can re-launch the Installer in the Applications folder and let it run. You can install it on a clean partition on your external HD, or you can allow it to upgrade the Snow Leopard clone you created on your external drive, or you can do both. This should allow you to test how everything works for as long as you like.
    3. If you left yourself a free partition on your test drive, try a clean install of Yosemite and set everything up from scratch (do not migrate anything). This will allow you to see whether your problems with it were related to something in your Snow Leopard system.

  • I run windows on my mac for school. went into windows and cant get back to mac. how would i get back to the mac i love

i run windows on my mac for school. went into windows and now cant get back to the mac i love please help

    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
    1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
    2. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
    3. VM Fusionand Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
    4. CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
    5. VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

  • Delete old email address from cache on a MAC

Has there been a solution to delete old email addrss from the cache on a MAC?  I'm not talking about iPhone or iPad devices.  The last discussion on this topic was back in 2012 and it doesn't look as if this was resolved.
Bottom line, when you create an email on the mac, the auto fill pulls up every email address for an individual (current or not).  The correct email address are in the contacts, but the cache is storing the really old address.
    Suggestions are welcome.

Apart from the AddressBook, email addresses are also kept under 'Previous Recipients' in Mail, in the Window menu.

  • How to keep the ".mac" version email address from showing up in Mail?

I was a .Mac guy way back. MobileMe came out. Now I have two emails, the difference being the domain. One .mac and one .me.
I just want to use the .me. I had several aliases and they all have the same issue. When I choose which email address to send it from, I have a ton of emails to choose from. I could cut that in half without all the .mac ones. Anyway to fix this so only the .me address show up in the from field?

On your iPhone, from the Home page go into settings then Notes. Change your Default account to 'On My IPhone'.

  • Can't find a solution to back up 30 macs on a local network

Our small company has been struggling with back ups ever since we have been owning more than 20 Macs or so.
We have been able to perform backups on a few parallel Time Capsule for a while, but are looking for a more professional/industrial solution now that our team runs around 30 iMacs and MacBooks.
Performing a few tricks on each machine has allowed us to perform back ups on a NAS appliance for a while, but this solution has proven unstable, as the disk, after a while, can't be found by Time Machine.
Would anyone have a more positive experience running other solutions – that I am afraid would commonly run in the Windows/Linux world! Any hard/software recommendations and/or links to useful articles?
    Many thanks
    Matt

Hi, and welcome to the forums.
It sounds like you need a central Mac, running Mac OS X Server.
I'm not very familiar with it, but you can control Time Machine on all the clients from it or let them do their own, and they can all back up to the server.
Hers's the whole manual. See page 241 for Time Machine setup: http://images.apple.com/server/macosx/docs/UserManagementv10.6.pdf
There's much more there, of course. For questions, etc., see the Mac OS X Server forums, at: http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=96

  • Find IP address from which Document Changes are done

How to find out from which IP Address the user has made changes to the SD Document.

Sat is correct, the change log does not go down to that level.  The lowest level would be user, date, time.   I suppose if it was necessary, you could use a user exit to get the current IP and update a custom table  with the data.  I'm not really sure of the point though.

  • How to add contacts(email addresses) from foxmail (windows) to mac's address book?

    Or to thunderbird?

In Thunderbird you can export your contacts in a CSV (Comma Separated Value) file.
Now you can import that file to Address Book, but if you have complex data and notes in the contacts for Thunderbird you might need to tweak the data so that it works better with Address Book.
If needed, you could try using a program like Abee to help clean up the CSV file before importing it.

  • How do you add previous mac events on your iPhone back onto your mac?

I added all my videos and photos to my iphone from my mac awhile ago as i needed to reset my mac and i wasn't confident using any other method. I reset my mac etc and everything is perfect. but now i want to put my photos and videos back onto iphoto from my iphone but when i plug my phone in to the mac it doesn't recognize any of the older events and only lets me import photos from my camera roll. i can view all my mac events/photos/videos/faces on my iphone so i know they are there. i just want them back in iphoto on the mac so i can free up space on my iphone any help would be awesome thank you.

You can use iPhoto lo import photos and video to your iPhone to your Mac.
iOS: Import personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer
If you have problems importing to iPhone, try using Image Capture mentioned in the link above. Image Capture is located in your Applications folder.
