Remove Old Doc Library Storage References

I have an 8.02 HP3 post office that is complaining about old Library
Document Storage areas
There DSA's were re-defined years ago but there seems to be a reference
to them still hanging around somewhere (I presume in the PO or Library
DB)
All our libriaries work fine and the old server that contained these
DSAs has been retired.
Would really like to clean this up as it requires us to load the POA on
Windows manually (and respond to the storage area not found messages)
as it won't load as a Windows service because of this.
Steve

I know it removes the directory contents, not sure if it also removes any
empty directories under the libxxx top level directory
But it should clear any superfluous references.

  • HT203756 How can I remove 'old' or 'incomplete' backups from iCloud?

How can I remove 'old' or 'incomplete' backups from iCloud?
When I attempted, the iPhone 6+ message asked if I wanted to remove ALL of the backups... without giving me the option of selecting the specific one I wanted to remove.
I had performed 'backups' of my old iPhone, but, when I tried to RESTORE to the REPLACEMENT iPhone, at least one of the iCloud backups shows 'incomplete'.  There was no 'error' on the original iPhone...when it 'failed' to complete the backup.
Now, I would like to 'clear up' the 'storage' on the iCloud, but am unable to select specific ones. I can either keep all instances or shut off iCloud Backup which would, according to the message, remove/delete ALL of the BACKUPS.
    This shouldn't be this difficult.....

I too wondered how you remove apps from iCloud.  Judging by the quantity of questions, comments, suggestions and replies (some rather rude) there is a clear need for Apple to make their literature a lot clearer.  The page describing what iCloud backs up refers to "app data" as an item which is backed up.  To the uniniated this might mean the app program but it seems not.  The app is "bought" via iTunes or the App Store and details of your purchase (free or otherwise) is held there separately on the server.
It would be nice however to be able to remove the reference to junk I have downloaded and decided I don't want so that it doesn't appear on the purchased apps listing!  Apple please note this.
It must be remembered that Apple products come pitifully supported by manuals "out of the box" on the assumption that it is so easy to use the product that no explanation is needed.  They forget that most buyers of Apple products (me included) don't know (and don't want to know) how they work, so when something is not obvious they are required to plough through Lord knows how many web pages of "knowledge base" material until they find an answer.
All I can add is that it is worth spending time reading the multiitude of discussion threads before asking the question yet again...

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself independently backed up against loss.  To use a device with a new computer you transfer the content from the old computer (or its backup) directly to the new computer, not the device to the new computer. Media syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only purchases from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software.  See this document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991

  • I can't copy my old iPhoto library from a external HD to my new mac?

Hi. I just bought a new mac and want to have all my old iphoto pictures from my old mac into my new iPhoto library. I've tried to copy the old iPhoto library into a external HD(works fine), but the problem is that I can't copy it out from the external HD an in to my new mac again. It just say that it doesn't work because it doesnt have enough storage.
I don't get why it would say that, because the old iPhoto library is 89.55 GB and I haven't used any memory at all on my new macbook pro, and my old macbook pro has memory enough to have the iPhoto library on it (the mac is 5 years old and has almost a full memory), so why can't my new macs memory manage the iPhoto library when my old mac can? It doesn't make sense at all.
I've googled it, and it says everywhere that it should work by simply copy to external HD and move over the library from there and into the pictures folder, but this definitely doesn't work for me.
I hope that some please can help me with this, I don't know what do to.

Do you know how much space the cheapest macbook pro with reatina has?

  • How do I remove old music and playlists?

I tried to remove old music by selecting Sync Music, Selected Playlists etc, And only checked the 3 playlists I wanted. All the playlists got synced. Help!

If you connect it to your iTunes library and allow a Sync to take place, you should see a message telling you that everything will be removed from the ipod (if you let it Sync). Then, the content of your Library will be added to the iPod (if you have selected those options).

  • A friend gave me her VAIO laptop. How can I remove her ITUNES library and use mine which I want to sync with my Ipad and Iphone?

A Friend gave me her VAIO laptop. How can I remove her ITUNES library and use my library.  Want to sync my Ipad and Iphone to My library.

I believe when you plug her old iPhone in to your computer it will notify you that the phone is synced with another library and ask if you want to register it with your library.  At least this is how iPods work.  I'm not sure about iPhones.  If you want to actually use the phone as your own you may need to go through AT&T.
If you're just looking to use the iPhone as an iPod (without the phone portion of it) you may run in to some problems.  The iPhone really wants to be on a cell network all the time.  I think you'd have to jailbreak it to get it to work properly as an iPod.
Let us know what happens when you plug the phone in to your computer.

  • Should I delete my old iPhoto Library Current folder once everything is transferred to Photos Library Current?    Does this mean that all my new photos on any device can come off my Mac and ONLY be in the Photos Library which is in the cloud?

I have 2 questions about the new Photos app for Mac (I'm running 10.10.3 on my MacBook Air 1.8GHz Intel Core i5 mid 2012)):
1.Should I delete my old iPhoto Library Current folder once everything is transferred to Photos Library Current?
    2. Does this mean that all my new photos on any device can come off my Mac and ONLY be in the Photos Library which is in the cloud?  That would free 59GB off my Mac and that would be very good.

1.Should I delete my old iPhoto Library Current folder once everything is transferred to Photos Library Current?
You can, but I would wait, until you have have been working with Photos for some time and are sure, that everything migrated well. There may be hidden flaws in your library and teething problems with Photos. Don't be in a hurry to abandon iPhoto completely. You may need to go back, until bugs have been fixed.  Th Photos Library does not duplicate the photos in your iPhoto Library. the media files are shared and do not need extra space: See:  Photos saves disk space by sharing images with your iPhoto or Aperture libraries - Apple Support
    2. Does this mean that all my new photos on any device can come off my Mac and ONLY be in the Photos Library which is in the cloud?  That would free 59GB off my Mac and that would be very good.
If you have enough iCloud storage.  But Photos will still need space for local thumbnails on all devices.
See:  Apple - OS X - Photos Preview
Fill your library, not your device.
iCloud Photo Library can help you make the most of the space on your Mac. When you choose “Optimize Mac Storage,” all your full-resolution photos and videos are stored in iCloud in their original formats, with storage-saving versions kept on your Mac as space is needed. You can also optimize storage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, so you can access more photos and videos than ever before. You get 5GB of free storage in iCloud — and as your library grows, you have the option to choose a plan for up to 1TB.

  • Moved library to external HD, iTunes still uses old iTunes Library.itl file

    Howdy-
    I'm running Windows 7 & iTunes XXX
I moved my library from my laptop internal hard drive (C:\Users\jasonbar\Music\iTunes) to my external hard drive (G:\iTunes).
    I followed the recommended procedure:
1 - Edit/Preferences: check "Keep iTunes Media Folder Organized"
2 - Edit/Prefrences: click "Change" & input "G:\iTunes" into box to denote new library location
    3 - File/Library/Organize Library & check "Consolidate Files"
Now, I've found that iTunes still uses the old "iTunes Library.itl" file in the old location (C:\Users\jasonbar\Music\iTunes).  For the sake of convenience (and to make the library entirely self-contained on the external HD & to protect it from possible laptop loss/failure), it would be swell if I could migrate that file over to my external hard drive also.  But, if I remove the "iTunes Library.itl" file from the old location & copy it to the new iTunes directory, iTunes just doesn't seem to be able to figure out that there's a nice "iTunes Library.itl" file on my external hard drive that it can use.
Is there any way to achieve what I want?
    Thank you,
    -Jason

I assume you have your iTunes folder located on your other drive (no Music folder enclosing it.) On your startup volume you have a /Home/Music/ folder but the iTunes folder has been removed. OK, so far?
Go to where the real iTunes folder is located. Select the folder then CTRL or RIGHT-click and select Make alias from the contextual menu. You should see a new icon appear named "iTunes alias" with a little curly arrow in the lower left corner of the icon. Now, copy the alias file to the /Home/Library/Music/ folder on your startup volume. Rename it to just "iTunes" (no quotes.) Delete the alias you created on the other drive.
Now when you double-click on the iTunes alias in your /Home/Music/ folder your real iTunes folder should open up. Now if you open iTunes application it should re-discover the iTunes folder.
Or you can do what the other posted suggested. Simply point iTunes to the new location of your iTunes folder. Open iTunes Preferences, click on the Advanced icon in the toolbar. Click on the Change button, locate the new library location, click on OK button of the Open dialog.

  • Can't remove old episodes from iPod sine Update!

I have a Shuffle & usually carry 3-5 episodes each of 8-10 different podcasts.  Sine installing the new iTunes for Windows, I can't remove old eps from the device, & it's a total crapshoot as to which NEW episodes the system will allow me to click on!!
    HELP!!!!!!

There are several ways to add podcast episodes to the shuffle, so please correct my assumptions in a reply.  How you add podcasts determines how you remove them.  I can't tell how you do it from the info you provide.
It sound like you may add podcast episodes manually (drag and drop to iPod).  If you do, and your shuffle is 3rd or 4th (current) gen, you should consider doing it using automatic syncing, by putting podcast episodes on a playlist (in your iTunes library and syncing it to the shuffle).  Update the playlist at any time, by adding new podcast episodes and removing old ones (the shuffle does not need to be connected).  Put the podcast episodes in desired order.  iTunes automatically updates the shuffle the next time it is connected (or by clicking Sync if already connected).  On the shuffle, you can listen to podcasts from that playlist, and hear episodes from different podcasts consecutively, in the desired order.
When you remove podcast episodes manually, is this the way you do it?  Again, this is for 3rd or 4th gen shuffle.  Select the shuffle in iTunes, so that you see its "management" screen.  In the sidebar, under On My Device, click Podcasts.  To the right, the podcast episodes currently on the shuffle are shown.  Select the one(s) you want to remove an press Delete on the keyboard.

  • How do you remove old podcasts?

How can I remove old podcasts off my itunes and off my ipod?

To remove podcasts from your iTunes library:
In the Source List of iTunes, go to the "Podcasts" area under "Library".
Here, you can select the podcasts that you want to delete, and drag those files to your Recycle Bin, or just click the "Delete" key on your keyboard.
To remove podcasts from your iPod:
Connect your iPod to your computer. Click on your iPod in the Source List of iTunes. Go to the "Podcast" tab.
Here, you will see your podcast syncing settings that you have set up for this iPod.
If you have already deleted the podcasts that you want to delete from iTunes (and if your iPod is automatically syncing podcasts), then all you need to do is let it sync with your iPod, which would delete those podcasts off your iPod.
If you have not removed those podcasts from your iTunes library, but you would like them off your iPod, then take a look at your syncing settings.
If the main "Sync" option for Podcasts is selected, then you can alter whether you want certain recent/unplayed/new/etc. podcasts to go onto your iPod.
Or, if you have the "Selected podcasts" setting selected, then you can select/deselect what podcasts you want on your iPod using that method.

  • How to Remove old updates from Software Update service

Running a 10.10.2 OS X Server and have a lot of old Update files I need to get rid of. I have followed instructions on...
Mac OS X Server 10.4 or later: Removing old updates from Software Update Server
    ...but getting this error...
    No such file or directory
    ...when typing...
    grep swupd /etc/swupd/com.apple.server.swupdate.plist > ~/Desktop/update_list.txt
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I don't use Apple's own SUS software I use Reposado instead, however it is my understanding that the locations of files used by Apple's SUS software have been moved with Yosemite/Server 4.x.
Try looking in the following locations
    /Library/Server/Software Update/Config/
    /Library/Server/Software Update/Data/
    /private/var/db/swupd/

  • How to remove "other" in iPhone storage

I can see when I look at what is on my iPhone a category called "other".  What is it and how can I remove/reduce it, as is taking up valuable memory/storage?

I found that you just can't remove this stuff. Other people said removing old messages, music, browser cache, facebook app, removing album arts, voice recorder, etc.
Name the solution people suggested, and I've tried them all, and nothing really works. Stuff will come back again.
Restoring as new iphone works initially to about 800MB for me, but it will get the Other to balloon to about 2GB for me after resync my photos, and music.
I've submitted a feedback to Apple http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html perhaps there's a button to clear old/stale items in there. At least something to clear it out, and let the apps rebuild the index/databases, whatever they need to function. You should do the same, tell them.

I'm trying to remove old apps off my phone, and they keep showing up.  How do I get rid of them?

i was losing temper looking for an answer for this. at the end the trick is that you need to show the side bar then only your library will list the apps menu for you to access & start doing the deletion huhhhhh..
Itunes > view (menu bar) > show side bar > under library select apps > all apps list either active & deleted on your device will be displayed in tile view > then you start to delete by right clicking> finally empty recycle bin >

Why does the old iphoto library still remain after the upgrade? Takes up HUGE space on my laptop

Why does the old iphoto library still remain after the upgrade? Takes up HUGE space on my laptop
Actually, it only looks like it takes up additional space. The file size shown is misleading.  When you migrate an iPhoto library to Photos, both libraries will show the media files using hard links. The actual file content of the image files and videos is shared by hard links:
See this linked document:   Photos saves disk space by sharing images with your iPhoto or Aperture libraries - Apple Support
You will gain no free storage at all by deleting either the iPhoto Library or the Photos library.  So keep both libraries until you are very sure, that Photos is working well  on your Mac and your iPhoto library has been migrated correctly. Also, check, if you like the workflow in Photos. It is very different from iPhoto and some iPhoto features are not supported.
There will be no easy way back to iPhoto, if you delete your iPhoto library or the iPhoto application. Apple does not sell it any more.
