Removing battery from Lenovo Twist S230u laptop?

Hello. I am sending my S230u laptop by air to a Lenovo service station to get its HDD replaced. One of their requirements is to remove the battery from the laptop since it is considered a 'hazardous' material.
Is it actually possible to remove the battery off an S230u? I've been searching online and it appears you can only disable the battery. Any help would be really appreciated.
Thank you for your time.

It appears I don't need to remove the battery after all.

  • Default Partitions for lenovo Twist s230u

    Hello,
I have a Lenovo Twist (s230u) and need to do a system recovery. Unfortunately, neither the F11 option is working nor recovering from win 8 itself. I do not have a win8 disk (wasn't supply with the computer) !
The only option I guess is to get a win8 drive and do a clean install. Before I do this and reformat the drive, can someone tell me what to do with the different partition on the HDD and the SDD ? I see the disk is divided into multiple partitions... Even if I do a clean win 8 installation, what should I do about the 260 Mb, 1000Mb and 7 Gb partitions (EFI, recovery and recovery respectively) Are they necessary ?
What about the SSD ? Technically I guess since it is separated, it shouldn't affected.
    Thank you
    Cyril

    Hello and welcome,
Easiest - if your drive stays alive long enough - is to make a recovery flash drive and use that to restore to a new drive.
Methodology to create Recovery Media and reload a Lenovo system with Microsoft Windows 8 preload
If you have a MS Win 8 install DVD of the matching version you can just copy the contents to a FAT32-formatted flash drive and use that for a clean install.  The license is in BIOS and shoud be picked up.  (CAVEAT: I've done installs from flash, but not verified that the license is picked up.)
Note that the copy-to-flash install works for MS media but not for Lenovo recovery DVDs.
Worst case: use a USB DVD drive.  Worst, worst case: purchase recovery DVDs from Lenovo support _and_ use an external drive.

  • Remanufactured Battery from Lenovo Outlet

    Hello,
I ordered a remanufactured 6-cell battery from Lenovo Outlet during their promotion period last month. It arrived last Friday. Everything looked fine when I unpacked it.
However, when I checked the ASM (92P1142) and FRU number (42T4777). It looks like that ASM is on the recall list years ago. This battery pack is manufactured by Sony with cycle count of 0. I am concerned of the safety issue and email Lenovo Outlet. They told me to call technical support department. I tried this afternoon and waited for over 20 minutes without any human representative asking my call.
Anybody has similiar experience or can answer my question? TIA.

  • T61P died, 1 long beep - 2 short beeps problem - Do the updates from Lenovo KILL our laptop?

    Hi all
I bought T61P from 2 years ago, everything is ok until yesterday, I turn on my laptop and nothing display on the screen, and with this :  1 long beep - 2 short beeps....
I make some search, and found a lot of people have the same problem, and almost happend from September - 2009 to now.
I asked my self why this problem does not happend in the 1st year of using T61P...and this only happend from September - 2009 to now? DO THE UPDATES FROM LENOVO KILL OUR LAPTOP?
My laptop is out of warranty, and I hate to replace another mainboard.... If I must do it, I will throw my laptop to the Trash, and never buy another Lenovo laptops.

so far it looks like a strict hardware problem, not related to updates. however, some manufacturers try to "cheat" with bios updates - they make fan to run at higher speed lowering the mainboard temp. This does not solve the problem per se, it just makes laptop survive beyond warranty expiration date, so you, dear customer, will have to foot the bill.

  • Expresscache on Lenovo Twist s230u

    Hello,
After installing latest drivers for Expresscache (1.3.110.0) for Twist s230u, Expresscache stopped working. "eccmd -info" command outputs "Failed to retrieve product license". Restarting service, re-installing didn't help. Does anybody have similar issues? What is possible to do to resolve them? Thank you.

So, that's what staff at Condusiv.com (devs. of Expresscache) replied about latest installed drivers of Expresscache, downloaded from Lenovo:
"It appears that the version of ExpressCache is not an Lenovo specific application. Please contact Lenovo Support and obtain a Lenovo specific version of ExpressCache. The application will check the BIOS string for the specific manufacturer prior to enabling the product."

  • Removed Battery from MB to clear CMOS, Now no MSI splash screen, no booting

    My System:
CPU: AMD 720 X3 2.3 Mhz per core.
    MB: MSI K9A2 Platinum, Version 1, 1.4
Memory: OCZ Platinum II memory, 4 1gb sticks.  667
GPU: Gigabyte Radeon HD4850, 1GB memory
HD: Seagate Baracuda 7200 500GB memory card.  RAID.  Recently replaced.  I can hook it up as an external SATA -> ESATA to my laptop via a 1.5 ESATA PCMCIA card.
    OS:  XP, SP3, 32 bit
    PSU:  Ultra 750w, +5v 32A
My PC was working, until this.  In the boot menu, I was getting the raid setting instead of the hard drive, so I decided to reset the CMOS.  I changed the Jumper and that did not clear settings enough.  I pulled the battery and reinstalled it.  Now, When I turn the PC on, I just see a black screen.  No MSI splash screen, no Posting.  No response at all.  The MB gets power.  Lights on, fans working, but nothing more.  My main HD is getting power but it is not read.  There is no sound of feel of the heads moving.  As I mentioned, I can access it as an external drive on my laptop and all diagnostics have been fine.
I don't know what I did to my system, but I would really appreciate any help fixing it.  I have built PCs since the mid 90s, and I am sure that all cables are connected properly.
    Thank you.

5V of the powersupply is unimportant, the 12V combined output it (if the psu lists that).
As for the memory, try 1 stick only! See what happens.
The Cmos clear jumper clears everything, HOWEVER! the power from the powersupply MUST be removed!
Else it keeps getting 5V-stb and the cmos won't be cleared.
However, this didn't happen out of the blue, what did you do before this?
12V 45A.  The MB started every time before this.

  • Can't remove keyboard from hp 15-g082no laptop

So about a week ago i ordered my hp 15-g082no from a swedish electronics reseller called 'elgiganten', and i also bought a samsung 840 evo ssd to replace the hard drive with. After consulting the manual, Found HERE.  It said to remove both the battery, keyboard, and top cover before you could move on to the hard drive. I removed the battery and first tried to remove the screws the manual tells you to remove, and then lift off the keyboard as shown in the manual. After that didn't seem to work i removed all of the screws on the laptop, but the keyoard wont come off, i tried sticking something through one of the screw holes, but ended up just popping out a key. Is there a special technique you need to use to lift off the keyboard, have i done something wrong or have i received a faulty piece of hardware?
    Any help appreciated!

    Hi All,
Sorry if I am posting in the wrong place but I am having the same problem  also trying to install an EVO 840 ssd.
    HP Pavilion 15-278sa NoteBook
Any help will be gratefully recieved, thanks.
Ok I figured it out ,I was trying to remove the entire top as well as the keyboard and therefore not
gaining access to the five other screws that held the top on.
When removing the keyboard ( after all the screws have been removed) by inserting a blunt tool
in my case a nail into the keyboard push hole, the keyboard bowed at the top allowing
me to disengage all its retaining clips and exposing the aforementioned 5 screws.
I now have EVO 840 installed and running at last
Only one downer is I appear to have lost my backup partition

  • 0190 critical low battery error lenovo twist

Occasionally, I am getting this error "0190 critical low-battery". I am not sure how to replicate the error, but it only happens when I leave the laptop to fully charge. It doesn't happen every time I fully charge my laptop, but most of the times.
I am sure that it is not the new bios that causes this because I had encountered it before the bios upgrade. It seems to occur when I leaving my laptop hibernated to fully charge. To resolve I have to plug in the AC adaptor once.
On top of that I am already experiencing the "can't wake from sleep" problem with the new bios making my laptop highly unreliable
    Please advise
    Petros Sampatakos

I have a similar error that I think is related to 8.1 (Production version).    When the battery drains and shuts down automatically, I plug it in to charge.  When I am ready to use, I unplug and go to turn the machine back on and get the critical battery warning though I know the battery is fully charged.    I have to plug it back in, turn the machine on, wait for it to blue screen (which it does) and then it works fine.    Seems something that a bios update can address..... Hopefully someone at Lenovo sees this and cares to address

  • Cannot remove battery from dm4-1162us notebook

I purchased a dm4-1162us on Black Friday, and just opened it on Dec 9th.
I started setup, as directed, and the first order of business was to insert the battery. This one was very difficult to insert, compared to the many laptop batteries I have inserted/removed over the past 18 years. (Also, I am a lightweight female with near-frostbitten fingers, so I couldn't use Brute Force).
When the battery did CLICK into place, it jammed the release button, too, and I could not remove the battery. I took it to the Office Depot, where it was purchased, to get a GUY to look at it, and they agreed that it was JAMMED.
Is this normal for this laptop? I know that it is a new model number, so you may not have seen this issue before.
I have not registered the laptop, since I may exchange this defective one for a dm4-1160.
Thanks for any advice in this FRUSTRATING matter! I love what I have seen of the features, so far, but have not even "taken it for a drive on the internet" yet...

    Hi,
I would take up the other stores' offer of an exchange or replacement.  If the battery is currently jammed in the notebook, you have no way of knowing whether any damage has occurred to either the terminals on the battery pack or the terminals on the PC.
    Best wishes,

  • Can no longer remove battery from my phone

I currently own an LG Ally. Am going to purchase a Motorola Razr in May. Have downloaded the instruction manual for the Razr. It states that the user cannot remove the battery. Here is my question. On my Ally there have been times the phone "locked up" and would not even turn on when pressing the on button. The only way I could get it to reboot is by taking the battery out, then putting it back in. How will I do a reboot on the Razr now? (I heard you need to press the on button and hold the down-volume key at the same time)? Thanks to all for any input!!!

To do the Soft Reset on the Razr Maxx you Hold down the Volume Down button & the Power at the Same Time for 10 Seconds an it will do the Soft Reset.
