Removing excess spacing

I work for my school newspaper as the Online Editor. The editors use InDesign to layout their articles and when they adjust the type to make the text fit into the columns appropriately, they simply hit the space bar multiple times (it's either that or they use weird page breaks that are being carried over to word pad). This has become very aggravating for me when I copy the stories from InDesign past them word pad to format the stories for the web.I have to manually find the extra spacing and delete it.
Is there any way to easily eliminate multiple spaces or if there is a better way to solve this problem I would love to know. I am pretty unfamiliar with InDesign, so the more detailed the instructions, the better.
Thank you,
Bryan Friesen

You didn´t mention which version of ID you have... if you have CS3 or CS4 I have good news for you. You can turn all multiple spaces to single spaces with find&change tool (Edit>Find&Change). Simply choose that option from Query dropdown, choose Document to search target and hit Change All...

  • Remove Excess group dynamically in crystal 10 without using ReportAppServer

    In Crystal report XI I've used follwing code to remove excess group dynamically from aspx page:
                //Remove of Excess Group
                MaxGrpInReport = 9;
               for (int iCount = MaxGrpInReport; iCount >= objShowReport.TotalGroupNo + 1; iCount--)
                    customerReport.ReportClientDocument.DataDefController.GroupController.Remove(customerReport.ReportClientDocument.DataDefinition.Groups[iCount - 1]);
                customerReport.Refresh();
    But when I'm using crystal 10 (Including with Visual Studio 2010) it is getting error. Because "DataDefController.GroupController" is a server component . I'm not using any ReportAppServer. So how can I remove excess group without using ReportAppServer?

    Hello,
    Crystal 10 is included with VS 2005 and VS 2008. there is no CR runtime included with VS 2010. You can download it from our support site.
    CR 10.2 or 10.5 is not supported in VS 2010.

  • Remove All Spacing Between Components

    I simply have two Labels in a VBox and would like to remove
    all gaps and padding between them. I've tried specifying
    verticalGap="0" on the VBox and setting the Label paddings to 0 and
    bottom="0". Since the labels will be dynamic and have different
    styles I'm trying to keep them as separate components.
    Is there another style property I'm missing?
    <mx:VBox>
    <mx:Label text="United Center" styleName="lgLabel" />
    <mx:Label text="Chicago Bulls" styleName="smLabel" />
    </mx:VBox>
    Thanks.

    When you set VBox.verticalGap="0" it puts the two labels as
    close together as it can.
    If you still need them to be closer, then you can use
    negative numbers in either of the properties, verticalGap or
    padding.
    e.g: verticalGap="-5" or paddingBottom="-5"
    Hope that helps.

  • How to remove excess whitespace below my footer in muse

  • Removing excess from a title clip

    I added a scrolling title clip to my project and used Clip Adjustments to make it 30 seconds, which made the scroll roll at a comfortable pace for readability. The problem is that iMovie added an extra 12 seconds of blank title screen after the last word scrolls off screen. How do I remove the extra time without affecting the scroll speed? Simply dragging the end of the clip shortens it, but it also speeds it up to an unreadable speed. If cropping is the answer, how do I do it? The Help dialog didn't help me. I'm not very adept in the use of iMovie, so please try to help me in simple language!

  • To remove the spacing in top and bottom of XML report while printing

    Hi,
    I have developed the RTF template having page size(Page Setup->Page Size) as Custom Size(Width:19" and height:9.01").When I try to run the report thorugh the APPS,there is lot of spacing included at top and bottom of the page.This is mainly due to printer page size as A4.
    Due to the report layout,I cannot change to A4 which will make the report layout clumsy.
    Is there any kind of apps page setup to be done which will relate pagesize CUSTOM to A4.
    Please advise
    Regards,

    Hi
    Are you saying that once the document is printed ou get the space? If you run to PDF and view it with Reader then the paper size is correct?
    If so then you need to set up a prt file to specify the custom paper size. I suspect you are pushing it thru a regular A4 driver and its being resized for the paper.
    Writing print files is a little bit of an art form but check out the 'SysAdmin guide and the pasta guide for some further help.
    Regards
    Tim

  • I would like to remove the spacing between bookmarks in the bookmark toolbar. Can someone direct me to the right location?

    I just use the favicon icons for my bookmarks but now they are too far spread out. How to I remove the margin or padding between them? They were nice and tight until I did an update...

    You can experiment with code in userChrome.css to adjust the margins and hide the text if you are currently donig this differently.
    Add code to the userChrome.css file below the default @namespace line.
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/userChrome.css
    <pre><nowiki>@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul"); /* only needed once */
    #personal-bookmarks .bookmark-item > .toolbarbutton-text {display:none!important}
    #personal-bookmarks .bookmark-item > .toolbarbutton-icon {margin:0px!important;padding:0px!important}</nowiki></pre>
    The plain text customization files userChrome.css (user interface) and userContent.css (websites) are located in the chrome folder in the Firefox profile folder.
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Editing_configuration
    You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:
    *Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)

  • Very weird issue trying to remove excess "other" data.

    When I start to see to much "other data" on my iPod (5th gen 7.1.1) I use the following proceedure to get rid of it.
    Backup to iTunes
    Force restart by holding home ond power together.
    Restore iPod from iTunes.
    reload from back up.
    This time I was seeing abouy 3Gb of other, so I followed the above procedure.
    All went well untill the instant that the reload from back up sync completed.
    The reload took several minutes and showed it loading all of my apps, then all of my music track by track etc as expected, showed the usage bar along the bottom of the screes with a large proportion of audio, a lesser proportion of video a chunk of apps etc with a small amount of "other" and about 6 Gb remaining free at the end.
    The instant the upload completed this bar reflashed to show no music, no video and 16Gb of other.
    There are 2 back ups available, one dated, one not and I have tried repeating with both (avoided backing up in between failed attempts to rectify) with the same result.
    HELP !!!
    Thanks,
    David.

    Thanks,
    I think it is the latter as the Other seems to have replaced the audio and videos anyway.
    Probably good to have a clearout everyonce in a while though. (I can usually find a silver lining if I try hard enough)
    Any idea what may have gone wrong ?
    Thanks,

  • Find & replace a single character

    I have a long document and I want to change all the commas to a comma with a -300 kern. Not all the characters... just the commas.
    How do I do that?
    thanks
    c.

    A good Chinese font has several commas. At a minimum there should be two, a "full-width" version (one whose spacing equals that for regular Chinese characters) plus a "half-width" version spaced to go along with the ASCII letters in the font. (Some recent Chinese fonts use proportional spacing for their ASCII characters, so technically they are no longer "half-width.") Full-width commas may be further divided into those designed for setting vertically or horizontally (full-width forms centered in the space are intended to be ambidextrous). Thus the Glyph palette shows 4 variant forms for comma in the Adobe Fangsong Std that comes with IDCS3 (and note that earlier versions show fewer). Other ASCII punctuation marks are treated similarly, but there is no ASCII equivalent of the Chinese "half-comma."
    Sometimes a handy trick is to use a Japanese font for punctuation in text that is otherwise Chinese because InDesign can automatically remove excess spacing around Japanese punctuation. For text that is primarily alphabetic, with occasional strings of Chinese, I usually use punctuation from the alphabetic font; when the Chinese string includes a comma in the middle, I then make sure it's followed by an alphabetic word-space.
    Good luck!
    David

  • E-mails: excess vertical spacing

    When I send an e-mail (Hotmail) through Firefox that I have created and pasted from MS Word, it looks just fine on the e-mail ready-to-send screen but after it is sent and I check it in sent mail, there appears triple or quadruple spacing between paragraphs (even though the document in Word (and on the to-be-sent screen) was single-spaced with only double spacing between paragraphs.
    How can I eliminate the excess spacing?
    Thanks.

    If you paste HTML code then you can check the source code to see what exactly is pasted. Word may be adding extra <nowiki><P></nowiki> tags or other code that is causing it.

  • Lightbox Slideshow adjust spacing between thumbnails

    Hi
    This is actually a two part question -
    1. I want to give a collage look to my slideshow, without any spacing between thumbnails. How can I remove all the space between thumbnails.
    2. For all the thumbnails I want -"Fit the frame proportionally" and for all the big lightbox images I want "Fit Content proportionally" so that vertical and horizontal images are not cropped in the Lightbox view. How can I do that for all the images together rather than going one by one.
    Thanks in advance.
    -MP

    Hi MP,
    For your 1st request, the Thumbnails (containers that hold the thumb images) cannot be resized individually and maintain same dimensions for all the thumbnails. For this reason, even though you can remove all spacing between Thumbnails by selecting the Thumbnail Container and specifying H and V Gutter in the Spacing Panel to 0 -- if your slideshow images are of mismatched dimensions and proportions and you have Fit Content Proportionally selected as the Fitting option, then there will be an inevitable space around the thumb images either vertically or horizontally. You can work around that by using the Fill Frame Proportionally option.
    For your 2nd request. you can choose the appropriate option in the Flyout menu for "New Hero" and "New Thumbnail" options BEFORE adding the new images to the slideshow. The selection you make here will be applicable for images that you add after setting this option. So the appropriate workflow would be to setup your slideshow the way you want, then choose the appropriate option for New Hero and New Thumbnail and then add all your images to the slideshow.
    If you want fine grained control over thumbnail and images, you may look at Composition Widgets which allow you to manually place and size all content individually and still allow you to use the composition as a slideshow upon publishing.
    Thanks,
    Vikas

  • Spacing of Spry Menu submenu items, and inserting background images

    Hiya, need a bit of help, could someone possibly guide me with this?
    I've created a Spry Menu in DW CS5 - so far, so good.. However I'm pretty new to CSS Styles so need pointers at what to change to get the result I need. I've created the spry menu, however the submenu dropdown items are not flush to the ones above, theres a 1px horz gap between each item and while it looks okay, its particularly visible in Firefox and Chrome and would prefer no spacing at all..
    The live site is at http://www.ebm.co.uk/2011site/indexnavbar2.html
    if you take a look at the drop down menu bar you'll see what i mean - what do I need to do to remove the spacing?
    I also want to replace the solid colour with images, where do I specify the images for 1) top menu item 2) submenu item and 3) 'hover' item, and do I need to make any areas transparent?
    Any advice would be much appreciated.. thanks!
