Very weird issue trying to remove excess "other" data.

When I start to see to much "other data" on my iPod (5th gen 7.1.1) I use the following proceedure to get rid of it.
Backup to iTunes
Force restart by holding home ond power together.
Restore iPod from iTunes.
reload from back up.
This time I was seeing abouy 3Gb of other, so I followed the above procedure.
All went well untill the instant that the reload from back up sync completed.
The reload took several minutes and showed it loading all of my apps, then all of my music track by track etc as expected, showed the usage bar along the bottom of the screes with a large proportion of audio, a lesser proportion of video a chunk of apps etc with a small amount of "other" and about 6 Gb remaining free at the end.
The instant the upload completed this bar reflashed to show no music, no video and 16Gb of other.
There are 2 back ups available, one dated, one not and I have tried repeating with both (avoided backing up in between failed attempts to rectify) with the same result.

I think it is the latter as the Other seems to have replaced the audio and videos anyway.
Probably good to have a clearout everyonce in a while though. (I can usually find a silver lining if I try hard enough)

Very weird issue with server logging when using log4j.properties file

I'm using log4j logging. In log4j.properties the root logger is set up to use the ServerLoggingAppender class so that all our application logs go to the main server logfile. In addition, there are several appenders defined for specific components, with output going to specific per-component log files. Everything is going fine until I launch the server console. At this point all of those per-component log files get wiped out (zero length) and some non-ASCII lines are written to at least one of these files, after which the logs appear to be fine. The main server log file does not appear to be affected (because the root logger is set to "warn" level, while component-specific loggers are set to trace, the contents in these files is different; however I tried disabling all the other appenders and turning the root logger up to trace, and that still did not re-create the problem in the main server log file.
And here's the really weird part -- if I use the same configuration, but in a log4j.xml file, the problem does not happen.

Figured it out.
We were passing in the configuration for log4j as -Dlog4j.configuration=file:/<properties file> and this was added to the command line for both the managed and admin servers. Problem is that the console app starts its own instance of log4j, and when it reads the configuration for the appenders it initializes or rolls over the files. At some point we have two JVMs accessing the same files, so some corruption is bound to happen.
I'm not clear why the .xml file made a difference, but earlier we had been passing the log4j configuration as a jar file placed in the domain/lib folder, so perhaps the designer reverted to that (placed the log4j.xml file in a jar in lib, and not simply changed the -Dlog4j.configuration=file:/ option.

Hoe do I remove the other data from a 2nd generation shuffle ?

I've got a GB of other data on my 2nd gen shuffle that I can't remove. This means instead of haveing 967 mb I've acctually got 964.2. Anyone got any ideas what the GB of other is and if, and how, I can remove it ?

You cannot remove it.
It is normal to have a gb or so of other. Much more than this indicates corrupt files. A restore Should resolve.

Exchange 2003 OWA + Blackberry Internet Service : very weird issue

We use OWA protocol for retrieving the emails of our company which has its own domain : @eyeka.com.
Here are 3 scenarios of mail sending from a Blackberry device :
1) When a message is sent to an external address (i.e not with @eyeka.com), say yahoo, hotmail, gmail (...), the mail is sent properly and the device show a "OK" status for the message. The recipient will receive the e-mail without problems, and the proper behavior would be that the mail will appear in "sent Items" in the Exchange account. It doesn't, when connecting to OWA interface, we see that the mail is stuck in the Outbox folder!
2) When sending a message to an internal address (@eyeka.com), the mail is sent properly and is present in Sent items (nothing in Outbox).
3) When sending a message to an external address with an internal address as second recipient of "To" or "Cc", the mail will act as scenario 2 : it's OK.
We have no problem with OWA, we use Entourage (mac), and by Web, we never encounter such issues. All blackberry have no problems with retrieving and sending mails, but why the hell would each mail be stuck every time we send to an external address ?
It's a very awkward situation as every time the Exchange server is restarted, every items stuck in Outbox is re-sent again to recipients!
Any help of you guys will really be appreciated, I'm desperate.

But for me, if i sent an email to an internal person, i got the same problem.
I have my server reboot and all message i sent (about 2000) was resent to all people. (3 times because my server crahs 3 time during the week end)

MBPro can't get an IP, very weird issue

My new MacBook Pro (refurb 2.8, 1 month old) is having serious connection issues. My Internet connection (Time WArner cable) went down a few days ago; I reset the modem, theN eventually reset my whole APE network (Time Capsule and a bridged APE, both at 7.4.2). All of my hard-wired devices are fine, including two Macs, Tivo and XBox. iPhone 3GS connects to WiFi OK. The laptop will not connect.
At first I could only get a self-assigned IP, then no IP. It finds my network but acts like it's a new network and asks for a password. When I turn AP on and off it takes it a long time to find the network; when I do connect and enter the password I can't get an IP, then the AP symbol greys out again and has to search fir networks all over again. Both the setup and diagnostic tools tell me I can't connect, and that I must have the password or protection settings wrong.
I've had this network for over a year with almost no problems. The password has not changed and it's WPA2. I've tried everything I can think of: repair permissions, trash the Airport prefs, remove the network fro. The preferred list, trashed it's keychain, cleaned caches -- nothings helped. Laptop works fine when plugged in via Ethernet. My brother's PC laptop just connected ok via wifi. What else should I try? I'm usually pretty good with network issues but this has been a stubborn one. FWIW, my old G4 PowerBook was behaving somewhat similarly before I upgraded to the new one, and I did migrate my info from it...

Ok, I finally called Apple tech support after 3 days of not being able to connect. The wifi seems to be working now so I'm going to mark this "tentaively" solved. Here's what we did:
1. Trashed the System Config folder in Library>Prefs
2. Changed the Channel that APE was using to broadcast. I'd had it set to "Automatic" all this time; bad idea. We set it to 9.
It was probably the channel change that didi it, although cleaning out the config folder was probably a good thing as there were some really old files in there.

Some very weird issue with Motion tween

Soo, about the problem, flowers in layers 8,9,10 act wrong, when im trying to apply motion tween, they move from their current position right to the hell another one, and i can't understand why. Can somebody explain me what the matter? Because the rest of objects in another layers make it right, when i use motion tween. Oh, and btw, when you make zoom like 50% and less, u can see the workplace consist of gray square in dark gray square, again, wtf? When i make sizes in properties panel larger, it just goes crazy.

Emm, i meant that you should make motion tween by yourself to see that problem with flowers on layers 8,9,10. You just selecting any frame you want, then applying motion tween on flower on layer 8,9 or 10 and then puff, its like screwed up. After restoring my ipad, it's excess "other" data went from 3.78 gigabytes to 5 gigabytes.

Were you using the Maps application while driving, and did you let the screen auto-lock (or press the sleep/wake button) while the Maps app was still on? If so, the lock will shut off the display, but the Maps app will still be running, with the GPS antenna on to track your location, and the Google map data being updated. So, that would likely account for your short battery life. To avoid this, you'd need to press the home button to exit Maps.
You seem to be asking the same question in the same way as Hi I'm a Mac (same person, two aliases?). In any case, charge it like a laptop - the battery is the same type, just smaller. Those who say drain fully then charge are thinking of nickel-based batteries, which have a 'memory effect' - the lithium battery in the iPhone does not.

Issue in cell format when exporting data to excel

I have an ABAP program that selects data from tables into an internal table and writes the data in CSV (excel) file.
I have a very weird issue when writing the file: The data is written properly, though the dates in my data, which is written in yyyymmdd format, has different cell format in the csv file itself. I'll expain:
Let's say I've written into CSV file a table with name and birthdate, and I have 2000 records. From record 1 to 1475, when I right-click on the date cells in those lines, and choose "cell format", I can see it's in "general" format. From line 1476 on, when I do that I see that the date cells are in format of "custom" with pattern 'yyyymmdd'.
I want all the cells to be "general". How do I do that?

Weird Problem trying to sign into my App Store Account ? Please Help !!

Im having a very weird problem trying to sign into my App store account to update my apps and to purchase new Apps. Ive tried to search the net but I cant seem to solve my problem.
Here is whats happening
My Email address is correct in my iTunes Account and also my App Store account. (which is basically the same anyway)
The problem I am having Is that when I try to download an App my old email address still shows up when it requests my password.
The weird part is that my email address is correct in my itunes and also at the bottom of my app store. Yet my old email is showing up when I try to sign into the App store.
Here are the steps Ive taken already to fix this problem and have failed.
I have signed out of my itunes and app store and signed back in..FAILED.
I went into my setting -STORE and signed out and back in..FAILED.
I dont understand why my old email is still showing up when I try to sign in to update or download an App !!!!

Apps are DRM protected & tied to the account that was used to originally purchase them. Were these apps purchased using your old account details?

Can't Delete "Other Data" from iPod

I recently used Rhapsody to try and transfer songs to my iPod. Unfortunately, Rhapsody must've transferred the songs in a format that iPod doesn't recognize. How do I remove this "Other" data from my iPod without having to reset it?

Do you see the songs in Rhapsody? Surely Rhapsody has a way to remove them. I tried this once but got angry when I couldn't listen to those songs in iTunes. I don't remember there being a problem removeing the songs using iTunes but it was awhile back and I don't remember.
Other than that, try sorting your songs by Kind in iTunes. This will give you nice divisions based on the file type. Another thing you can do is look at your iPod as a hard drive on your computer and see if the files are in there.

(Clearly i'm not alone in this problem, although i think i figured out what's going wrong a little more than he did...read on!)
his solution, to put mainstage in jump mode, is very unsatisfactory to me, as it bounces all of a sudden to drastically different settings.
basically, my analysis is that my controller is NOT receiving MIDI date from mainstage. in other words, mainstage knows what my controller is doing, but my controller doens't know what mainstage is doing.
let's say i turn the knob all the way to the right ... 127...and the virtual fader goes to the right like it's supposed to.
now...next...let's say i change to a different patch, where that same VIRTUAL fader is not at the max clockwise position..maybe it's only at 1pm. now when i turn the physical knob to the RIGHT, the midi data is still at 127 on the controller! it didn't "reset" to sync up with the new level (say 80 or so) setting on the new patch. so i can't increase that new setting of 80 by continuing to turn the knob to the right. i have to turn it all the way to zero,...and then continue PAST zero until the controller thinks that IT is at 0...at that point the controller and mainstage are in agreement, and things work fine....so bascially, the keyboard thinks the level is at max...but mainstage thinks the level is at 1pm.
i am using Logic 9, and i have a macbook pro 2.9 Ghz I7 with 8 gigs of memory and OS X 10.8.4

Very weird dhcp issue

We've started 're-vlanning' our main location here, breaking up depts
into their own vlans.
All seems ok so far, aside from a real doozy.
For the IT vlan, we have one address that will not talk to our web
content mgmt appliance. It's the 2nd address in our assignable pool,
and it doesn't matter if it's dhcp or statically assigned, that address
will not talk to that device.
That is the *only* device that cannot be reached from this particular
address in our dept vlan, every other one works fine.
Any ideas on this?

So.... the title of this thread should actually be 'Very weird non-DHCP
issue', since your own testing confirms this has nothing to do with DHCP?
If you do a LAN trace on this machine as well as your web content
management appliance do you see packets on either side? Both sides? If
not on both sides but you do on the source (workstation) side see
packets going out, then get LAN traces after each network device
(switch, router, firewall, etc.) to see when the packets disappear.
Feel free to post the LAN traces somewhere with descriptions of IPs,
ports, and what you should be seeing, if you want to post them somewhere
for review.

I'm trying to remove the searchbar from the menu and the conventional techniques aren't working, are thereany other ways to remove the search bar?

I'm trying to remove the search bar from the menu, but when I try it removes the navigation bar as well. Mozilla's help page shows there being a button to remove in the customize menu section, but it's not here so is there any other way to remove the search bar?

The Initial view setting works perfectly when the file is opened in Acrobat after setting the desired Initial View.
When you upload the file onto Wordpress, and view it on that website in the browser...it might be using a different pdf handler program which might be causing this issue ( it would be helpful, if you could provide the screenshot) , however when you download the pdf again from wordpress server...and open in Acrobat/Reader...then what exactly happens ? Does the pdf opens in the desired Initial View setting?

Very Weird Sleep Issues - Help Needed

Hey Everyone,
I've been having some really weird issues with my iMac G5 lately. It will randomly go into sleep mode. Sometimes it'll do it once every hour or so, other times it will do it every 30 seconds, there is no rhyme or reason to it. I've obviously checked all my settings and the iMac has recently been to the shop to fix something else, but this new problem has developed over the last few weeks. It never crashes or freezes, it will just go into sleep mode and when I press a button it will turn back on. Working with video, this becomes the slightest bit annoying while trying to edit and such. So any help would be greately appreciated. And just as a side note: the computer is all updated, I'm running 10.3.9, and I believe my iMac is first gen (I don't think its the power problem they speak of because mine was just in shop for that issue)

Johnny, a SMU reset usually solves a number of power issues including sleep issues. If you go to this link it will detail all power problems. In step # 10 it refers to the SMU reset button and this is what you want to reset. The main part of the link is for when your Imac won't turn on at all, good reading but the SMU reset will probably fix your problem. Let us know, Bob :~))

This may because the attachment is a winmail.dat file. I would recommend taking a look at the article below for more information. Note: the article is written for OS X mail, but does also apply to this situation.
