Rename e-mail file names

I just noticed that my archived e-mails have file names that are number strings and have nothing to do with the subject line. Is there third party software capable of opening the mail, a renaming the file based on the subject line? Does anyone have an Automator workflow capable of doing that? All help appreciated.

  • "sent" mail file name?

What is the file name of the file where the "sent" messages are kept? Thanks.

    Bob,
    Welcome to the Discussions.
Each account folder (there is one for each email address/account) will have its own mailbox for this. The name is Sent Messages.mbox, and is located at Home/Library/Mail/the particular account folder.
If you have removed an account, it would require special disk recovery software to find its content, and success would be less likely with every use of the Mac and the HD. This is why Mail provides a warning message when removing an account, that all mailboxes associated with that account will be lost -- this message is not to be ignored.

  • Batch Folder renaming according to file name.

    Hi,
I work in a busy photostudio and I am currently using automator to process thousands of Images, compression, size, name changes ect. However there is just one process I am stuck on. I need to put these Images into folders that relate to the file name. I have a process that will do this that I found here. This works well but i need it to only look at a certain part of the file name.
For example if I had a collection of images like this,
    azz55412_blue_3.jpg
    azz55412_pink_2.jpg
    azz55412_blue_6.jpg
    azz78459_blue_1.jpg
    azz78459_blue_3.jpg
    azz65236_blue_7.jpg
The current process would place each one in a folder named after each image. Ideally I would like it to only look at the first part of the name ie azz55412 and create a folder called that and place any other images it finds with the same code in that folder.
Is this possible with automator or applescript?
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Mark

Save the line below into a plain text file and give it the .jsx extension.
    app.activeDocument.activeLayer.name = decodeURI(app.activeDocument.name).match(/(.*)(\.[^\.]+)/)[1];
Then create an action that runs that script. Then run File-Automate-Batch using that action.

  • Batch Rename Part of File Names

Bridge CS3 and Windows XP Home. Have a set of files having names like: ijc-552346-c01_lay, ijc-552552-c01, ijc-552345-c552, ijc-552657. Wish to change the ijc-552 portion to ijc-559; for example, ijc-552346-c01 to ijc-559346-c01, ijc-552552-c01 to ijc-559552-c01, ijc-552345-c552 to ijc559345-c552 and so on. Need help on proper parameter set-up to do a batch file rename. Have hundreds of files to change.

Thanks Curt and Olaf for the suggestions.
Since I am not script literate decided to check for utilities. Just downloaded v8 of "Flexible Renamer" which is free, seems to offer plenty of function and has some good reviews. Will give it a try!

  • I accidentally renamed all the file names on every single one of my 24000 photos in aperture using batch change ( keywords, metadata etc) Can I undo this action or will I need to restore from an earlier time machine/capsule backup?

Undoing a batch metadata filename change in Aperture3?

    You're welcome.
A second copy of the iPhoto library on a second drive is always good. I once lost my backup drive and the system drive at the same time, because a lightning caused a power surge that killed both my macs system drive and the connected backup drive. I was lucky to have a bootable clone of the system drive as a second backup.
I like this version of the quote you cited:

  • Mp3 will not rename - reverts back to original file name. Any suggestions?

I have a bunch of mp3 files that I would like to rename the original file name. Itunes only allows me to change metadata, but to fix broken names and keep organized, I need to change the file name.  Once I rename the file, it shows the new name, and then upon playing it, it reverts back to the original name. I do not have any locked permissions. I have parallels and tried to rename them on the windows 7 side but same effect.  I tried to shut all programs off so the file was not in use. I even tried to export it as a acc file type.  I am exhausted looking for a solution, this is why I am using this forum as a last ditch effort. Please help.

As far as I am aware, iTunes does not rename files (at least nto my older version I use).  Yes, it will insist upon the files being in certain folders which is structured from the metadata, but the files themselves keeep whatever name you use.
I suggest this be moved to an iTunes forum (you choose for Mac or for Windows).  I have never seen anybody else complain about this in the past.
One question, do you subscribe to Match?  Is there anything else using these files, some third party software?

  • Rename master "file name"

Is there a way to rename the master file name?
Currently, the only way to do this is:
    1. Import the files into a folder first and rename the files. Then
    2. Import the rename files into Aperture.
    or
    3. Delete files from aperture but do not empty
    4. Recover these files from the trash. Rename them.
    5. Import them back into Aperture.
This is a pain in the * process.
    Any other ideas?

One of my favorite OS X tools is "A Better Finder Rename" - (http://www.publicspace.net/ABetterFinderRename/index.html). I used to have my own Applescript to rename, but this ran circles around mine.
Before Aperture, I'd import to a folder, do a simple culling (via Bridge), then rename everything to my conventions (D05_01322.DCR, etc).
If you want to import directly from a card reader WITH renamed images, you can try this utility as another method. Yesterday I used it to do a simple experiment to allow a Master file to be renamed BEFORE importing into Aperture:
    1. Be sure to open your preferences and set the "When camera is connected, open:" to "No application".
    2. Mount your card reader with card you want imported.
    3. Select the files you want renamed, then open "A Better Finder Rename" and select to Change "only the file name".
    4. Inside Aperture, import the renamed Master images with your personalized names.

  • Renaming original file name.

    Shamil,
based on your scenario, I do not think Profiles are a good way to go. Why? Because the value of your field is dependent on values from other metadata fields which might be editable.
I can imagine you will be able to get there somehow (with the use of idocscript) the notation yyyyMMdd - this is a value you will have on the page load (unless checkin dialog would be opened over midnight).
I can also imagine that document type is somehow bound to your profile.
Nevertheless, you will never have the file extension - this is totally user-dependent value. Even though you can define some dependencies between metadata fields (on front-end), I would not know how to change a value based on primaryFile extension, to be honest.
On the other hand, if you do the same in a Java filter (when you are sure that the value will no longer change), it is an easy task. For filters, take a look at DynamicPrefix from HowTo components (see this page for 10g http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/content-management/index-092832.html or this page http://bexhuff.com/2011/03/howto-component-samples-for-oracle-ucm-11g for 11g).
Another comment: do you realize that if you store two documents of the same extension in one calendar day, that your name is not unique? (just in case you want to use it somehow for the identification)
I have also a question to you and Srinath: can you describe how dOriginalName can be added (to be filled in) to a rule/profile? I don't see it in available fields when I define a rule...

  • Export: In the Save as dialog, the file name is always shown as Crystalviewer instead of the report nameu00A0

    CA Forum: Exporting
    hi,
we are using crystal report server XI. in this i am not able  to export a report with particular report name. see the following steps.
Generate a report. Click the Export icon.Select the format in which the report has to be stored and click Ok button
Expected Behavior:The Save As form with the report name as file name should be displayed
Actual BehaviorFile download window is displayed showing the name of report as crystalviewer.rpt and when Save button is clicked, the Save AS dialog with the filename as Crystalviewer is displayed. The user has to specify a meaningful report name

    Post Author: foghat
    CA Forum: Exporting
This sounds about right, I can't recall if I've never seen Crystal default to the .rpt name when exporting a report.  In developer XI, reports saved on the enterprise server have some crazy long non-nonsensical unique identifier on export.  If the report is saved locally, it just gives untitled.xxx on export. That said, I find the users usually end up renaming the report file name anyways, so not a big issue.

  • WEBUTIL: Uploading files with arabic file names to a BLOB column in DB

    Hi
    I'm using webutil (webutil_file_transfer.client_to_db_with_progress)
to store files in a blob field in a 9i database, I'm doing that using forms 9i.
I'm successful in storing files with English names in the database, however if I want to store a file with an arabic file name , it doesn't get uploaded and the BLOB is empty. Is there any work around to solve this problem.
I tried renaming the arabic file name to an english file name then uploading which was fine, but when I try to rename the file back to arabic, this step fails. I asked a friend and he said that although I'm renaming the file back to arabic in a statment after uploading, that doesn't mean that the upload has finished, i.e the file is still locked for upload that's why I can't rename it back to arabic, I can't rename it even if I try that directly from the operating system.
can anyone help in solving this problem!!

  • Renaming attachment file name in receiver mail adapter

    Experts,
I have a file to mail scenario where an xml file is picked up and transformed into the target format in XI which has to be sent as an attachement in an email on the receiver side.

  • Rename the zip file and send it using the Receiver Mail Adapter

    Hi,
We have a custom module that will create multiple attachments. The result is then passed to the PayloadZipBean, which zips as per required.
When we output this to a file adapter, we provide the file name as say "zippedfile.zip" the result is as expected.
For example, if the custom module created 3 attachments with the names as file1.txt, file2.txt and file3.txt, the zip file zippedfile.zip, will contain 3 files as file1.txt, file2.txt and file3.txt.
The issue that we are facing is when we use the mail adapter, the zip file is getting renamed to file1.txt.zip i.e to say that it takes the name of the main payload from the custom module (file1.txt)
    TextPayload txtpayload = message.getDocument();
    txtpayload.setContentType("text/plain");
    txtpayload.setName("file1.txt");
    moduleData.setPrincipalData(message);
We tried using the MessageTransformbean but it doesn't seem to change the name of the file.
Not sure where we are going wrong. Is it that the output of the payloadzipbean cannot be used and altered by MessageTransformbean?
Is there any alternative as to rename the name of zipfiles and use it in the mail adapter?
Appreciate any help on this regard.
    Regards,
    Shabz

    Solved.
    use Transform.ContentDisposition - attachment;filename="youfilename"
Do read the mail adapter FAQ.
The parameter can vary for different mail client.
