Rename files and locations of the file

Hi, I have 2 questions:
1) when I modify information's of a mp3 file (album, title, artist) in the library is it possible to modify also the name of the file?
2) Is it possible to show the location of the mp3 file directly in the library view or i need to do always right clik - information's to found it
thank you

Francois Gualtieri,
Yes you can rename the song in iTunes:
In the main window, when you have Music or Library (pre iTunes 7.x.x) selected in source list, try to slowly single left click to select a song, then single left click to highlight its name, then rename.
And to "show the location of the mp3 file directly in the library view", right click on a song, choose "Show in Windows Explorer" option. The resulting Explore window will indicate files location in the Address bar.
Hope this helps,
Generik

  • Multiple files and locations for the same photos

    Hi all~
Hoping someone can help me find a simple solution to my problem. I've been trying to organize my photos on my mac, and I've been taking a lot of time to create albums in iphoto and rearranging all of my files. I got a message this morning that I have little space left on my startup disk, and that I need to delete some files. I suspected immediately that it had something to do with the pictures, so as a test, I searched in Finder for a few of the photo file names, to see how many copies there were. Not surprisingly, there were MULTIPLE copies of the photos, one in my iphotos folder, another in my regular photos folder, and sometimes two in the regular folder. I also had alias files listed in my iphoto albums, but considering the size of those, they are just a link to the real photo file. Is there an easy way to get rid of the dupes, or do I just have to sit and take the time to go through them by hand? Also, is there a better way to upload photos and manage the files, so that I don't have this problem again? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Noreen

Hi, Noreen. Whenever you import photos into iPhoto's library, they are copied (not moved) from their original locations to locations controlled and managed by iPhoto, in the iPhoto Library folder inside your account's Pictures folder. If the original picture files you imported were located on your hard drive instead of on a camera memory card, CD, or other storage media, then after the import you are storing each image twice on your hard drive: once inside and once outside your iPhoto Library. While there may be some comfort in having two copies of your photos stored that way, it's not a useful backup strategy: if your hard drive fails, both copies are apt to be lost.
Here is a backup strategy that will enable you to recover all your pictures and albums in the event of a primary hard drive failure, and will eliminate the duplication of image files on your primary hard drive. It assumes that you want to use iPhoto to manage and organize all your pictures — an assumption that isn't valid for every user, but works for many.
    1) Identify all the images on your hard drive that you haven't yet imported into iPhoto, but that you want to save. You will have to do this manually. Make a list of all their locations as you identify them, so you'll be able to find them again quickly during step 2.
    2) Import all those images into iPhoto, and arrange them in albums to suit yourself.
    3) Copy your iPhoto Library folder to another storage medium that is large enough to hold the entire folder. Typically, this will need to be another hard drive: internal if your Mac provides space for one; external if it doesn't, or if you don't want to open up the Mac and install another internal drive. Most users' iPhoto Library folders are (or will soon become) too large to fit on a CD; many are too large to fit on a DVD. The absolutely essential point to remember is that to preserve its identity as a functional iPhoto Library, the library folder must be copied to the backup storage medium *as a single, intact unit* — copying it piecemeal or spreading it over several CDs is a path to certain disaster. The contents of that folder are interrelated in ways that only iPhoto understands. Disrupting those relationships by dividing the library into segments destroys all the work you've done to organize your pictures within iPhoto. All that work will have to be laboriously repeated if you alter or break up the structure of the backup library, and then lose your primary library to a hard drive failure or computer theft.
    4) Delete all photos from your primary hard drive that are not stored inside the iPhoto Library folder. This eliminates the storage of duplicate copies on that drive and frees up space.
You are now committed to using iPhoto, rather than the Finder's hierarchical folder structures, for the organization and management of all your digital photos. You have no photos that are stored outside the iPhoto Library folder, and for the reasons I described at length under #3 above, you shouldn't use the Finder to meddle in any way with the contents of that folder. Everything you want to do with your pictures from now on can and should be done using the commands and preferences within iPhoto, not manually in the Finder.
Note that the procedure outlined above will, at first, consume more disk space rather than less, as the import process makes new copies inside your iPhoto Library of photos that were formerly stored only outside it. You will later regain duplicated-storage space by deleting all externally-stored images, and if you already had a lot of duplicates before starting this process, you'll probably end up with more available disk space at the end than you have now. But if your available disk space is already minimal now, you may have to take steps to increase it before starting on the process I've outlined. This article may help you do that.
    Good luck!

  • What is the name and location of the PSE 11 organizer database?

Recently I asked about how the PSE 11 Organizer stores photos. The answer I received was that the organizer stores info of the photo in a database. What is the name of this database and where is it stored?

    Hi,
If you are on a Windows system, load your organizer, go to the Help menu and select System Info - that should give you the path to you catalog folder.
In that catalog folder, there are various files. The main database file is catalog.pse11db
All the other files in that folder have their purpose. Be careful what you do with the files.
    Hope that helps

    hi gems...good afternoon..
i am using oracle 11gr2 database.
when i am trying to rename the primary key, foreign key, indexes of all the tables as per the standard, then the following error is given...
ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1

ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1

currently the maximum open cursors parameter is set to 300.
    please help..thanks in advance

thanks a lot for your help..
there are total 162 records in the v$open_cursor for that user.
among that the open cursor is only 4 and open-recursive cursor is only 6 for that user.
in my session i am executing only the renaming of the constraints and nothing more.
When i have queried the v$open_cursor for cursor_type='OPEN' for all the users, then i got that it has exceeded the value of open_cursors parameter.
So how can i resolve that....

  • CMS name and location of the folder?

How to find the CMS name of BOE and the location??

    Hi all.
I would like to ask about cmsServerName parameter in the report url. What is it used for? Is it always the same as serverName?
    Example:
    http://serverName:8080/OpenDocument/opendoc/logonTrustedAuth.do?appKind=InfoView&sPath=reportPath&isApplication=true&sType=wid&sDocName=reportName&UserID=nameofuser&CMS=cmsServerName

  • Itunes renaming songs and tracks to the incorrect ones, e.g. renaming all Various Artists to be Gym Class Heroes when played on my ipod, and incorrectly renaming tracks at random.

Also some songs are imported twice and named different things? I dont know why itunes has done this, and its on purchased products mainly.
I have switched back all the various artists defaults once, and it has just switched it back when synced with my ipod. How can i solve this issue?

There may be some inconsistency in the capitalizations, or some of the tracks may be marked as Disc 1 of 1 while others are Disc <Blank> of <Blank>  See Grouping tracks into albums for more details.

  • File to File and then Call ABAP Program and pass file name and location

    Hi
I am new to PI and am working on the following requirement and some guidance would help:
A file is picked up from a third party server using FTP and is put in an SAP server in a specific location. After I have put in the file successfully, I need to call an ABAP program and provide the name and location of the file for further processing by the ABAP program.
Although I am familiar with File to File, how can I add in the ABAP call with the filename and location? I do not want to pass any other information to the ABAP program.
    Thanks for your help.
    Manoj

I think I get what you're saying. This additional file would have the file and the path in it's content. I would then use this as a source (FCC?) for Mapping with the RFC. Right?
Exactly and yes, FCC would be helpful
Would you have a sample OS script to do the above?
Actually it depends on the operating system on which your PI system is standing. For instance for Windows, you might try with the following as a start point (but I was not able to test it, so I can't guarantee it will do the job):
    cmd.exe /C "%f %F > C:\target_directory\%DATE%_%TIME%.txt"
In case you needed more, try googling on "windows batch script" or similar.
    Hope this helps,
    Greg

  • Renaming files in sequential order

Automator experts, please help. I am stumped. I manually export photos from iPhoto. When they are exported, the file names are created in the order that they appear in the album. Here's the iss
    1. In the Finder, I've got my images listed in order (image1.jpg, image2.jpg, etc...)
    2. I select all of the images, and I click the "rename images" plug-in that I created. All it does is take the selected finder items and renames them. I have the action pop up when it is executed.
    3. I change the filename to rename sequentially, and I change the filename. For example, the format is: 2006-spring-1.jpg (where "1" is the sequential digit)
    4. Well, it renames the files, but messes up the order! image1.jpg should be 2006-spring-1.jpg and image2.jpg should be 2006-spring-2.jpg and so on, but this doesn't happen. image1.jpg may be 2006-spring-6.jpg and so on.
So it does the job, but changes the order. Any idea why this happens? Would creating an Applescript be better? (Not that I know how to do that...)
    MacBook Pro 17", iMac G4 800MHz, 60GB iPod (5th Gen)   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Try this AppleScript:
    tell application "Finder"
set my_folder to folder "untitled folder"
repeat with this_item in (get items of my_folder)
set the_name to name of this_item
    set name of this_item to "2006-spring-" & items 6 thru (count the_name) of the_name
    end repeat
    end tell
The folder's name goes between the quote marks in line 2; different folders in the path can be specified by using : between each element of the path.

  • Set size and location of  a component

    Hello,
Does anyone familiar with this org.netbeans.lib.awtexttra.AbsoluteConstraints(). I want to set the size and location of the component, and I know this org netbeans can provide this function.
    getContentPane().add(chkTausta, new org.netbeans.lib.awtextra.AbsoluteConstraints(10, 120, -1, -1));
    chkRakkennus.setSelected(true);
    chkRakkennus.setText("Rakennukset");
then it comes an error that org.netbeans.lib.awtextra.AbsoluteConstraints()cannot be resolved. Does anyone know whats the reason. Do I have to download other version of Java. I have Jre1.6.0?
Does anybody knows is there another way to set size of component. For example, if I use borderlayout, and put a button to the west, then how can I set the location and size of the button?
Thanks a lot for you help.
    Clare

org.netbeans.lib.awtextra.AbsoluteConstraints isn't part of the JDK. I suggest you don't use that at all. Let a LayoutManager do the resizing.
Have a look at the [Layout tutorial|http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/layout/index.html] especially gridBagLayout

  • Renaming songs and artists on 10.5

So my friend burned me a mix cd and I was trying to rename songs and artists because the names and such did not come through when i imported the cd to itunes 10.5. In trying to do so it is no longer apparently as simple as just clicking and waiting for the box to allow me to pop up and change the title/artist. Is anyone else having this issue with 10.5 or have any resolutions to this?? Also I am no longer able to just simply click on the Music category on the left hand side bar nor am i able to click on my playlists..
    What the heck iTunes???!!!!

hey there. all you have to do is right click on the song, and then click "get info". when that box pops up, you go up to the tabs and you click "info". by doing so, you can enter all the information you need to, just as you would before.

  • What is the location for the swatches file in the illustrator product part of Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Premium for windows (date and lenght)? File that manges its funcionallity.  Thanks

As per adobe agent chat representative, the following question is posted on the fórum to obtain an answe from adobe.
What is the location for the swatches file in the illustrator product part of Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Premium for windows (date and lenght)? File that manges its funcionallity.
    Thanks
    <moved from downloading,installing,setting up - kglad>

Illustrator is not working as it should...
I want them to compare the original size and date of creation with what I have installed on my computer... I have installed several times with my original CD and I tried once downloading the files from the adobe site (using my own license). I suspect the files has been modified or renamed on my laptop by an external unauthorized user causing the malfunction of the application.
Customer services does not support CS3 anymore and the updates / patches in the adobe site does not solve the problem... They redirect me to the forums for support...
Presently, my problem is that after creating a swatch and drag it to the swatch panel, it does not fill as it should a new form... Now, after deactivating and activating my license the swatch seems to fill the new form but when the filter that the swatch has is persistence in the next filling object created even though a different color is being used as a fill (X)... Help in the creation of a swatch over the internet just complicate the issue.
That's why I would like to know whether updates on my product are being received or files are being replaced without my knowledge...
    Thanks...
PS Do you know how to contact a staff adobe employer on the forums?

  • I cant uninstall my itunes off my computer, i have followed instructions and i still have errors, including error 2330 and redundance cyclic. the only software i have left is itunes.exe and file es.lproj which is located in the ituneshelpresources folder

I cant uninstall my itunes off my computer, i have followed instructions and i still have errors, including error 2330 and redundance cyclic. the only software i have left is itunes.exe and file es.lproj which is located in the ituneshelpresources folder. i recently installed a second hard drive and that let me uninstall everything. I just want to get itunes off my computer and reinstall itunes, i have deleted everything i can and i ran "chkdsk" this did nothing. I would have just updated the oild itunes to the newest version but it didnt ley me do that. installing/ uninstalling or deleting just lets me get half way and shows me these errors. Please help, thank you.
    JPHowarth

the only software i have left is itunes.exe and file es.lproj which is located in the ituneshelpresources folder.
If the chkdsk isn't fixing the damage, and those are the only iTunes that can't be deleted, try renaming the "iTunes" folder that they are contained in (in your Program files) to iTunesOLD.
Now try another install. Does it go through without the 2330 this time?

  • Rename files and retain portions of the original filename

I posted a thread about this a while ago, but no solution was given:
    http://discussions.info.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2564646
The issue is this: I can't figure out how to rename imported files while also retaining part of the original filename. The images come off of the camera like this:
    DSC_3497.nef
I need to do the following:
+- Retain the unique number that the image already has. I don't want to rename the files by date, location, lunar phase, or some other esoteric identifier. I think having a unique ID for each image (one that shows up in standard OS-level searches on both Mac and PC systems) is useful.+
+- Replace "DSC" with the camera model (D3X), since I use multiple cameras with different resolutions and also need to be able to search for images from a certain camera outside of Aperture (i.e. tags/keywords would not help).+
+- Add a digit prior to the four-digit string to indicate the true numeric sequence of the file. Since Nikon cameras reset the number sequence every 10,000 files, I want to indicate the true sequence number directly in the filename. This will also avoid filename overlaps. It also lets me know how many images I've shot with each camera.+
The intended final result would look like this:
    D3X_63497.nef
Showing the 63,497th image taken with my D3X.
In Aperture's "File Naming" dialog, I don't see a way to split the existing filename in this way. It looks like I can only append or prepend a Custom Name to the Version/Master name. I don't see a way to split the existing filename at the underscore, for example, so that portions of the original filename can be selectively replaced.
This is not about finding a workable naming scheme for Aperture and then renaming all existing files. I spend time on the PC side for various things and also work with a number of people who don't use Aperture but need access to my image library. I also have hundreds of references to existing filenames in various print and web design projects, as well as my Flickr account with 3000+ photos.
Going back and updating all that stuff is not going to happen. But using a System Service to rename files after every import is also pretty tedious.
Any solutions that meet the three criteria outlined above would be greatly appreciated.

    sempervirent,
You're asking for some pretty advanced file naming. Most people aren't going to need that sort of function, so I doubt there will be a hook into Aperture to do such a thing. I suggest using a shell script or Applescript along with EXIFTool to rename files before you import them into Aperture. http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/
Retain the unique number that the image already has
If you're not afraid of the command line, it's easy enough to use a tool like awk or maybe perl to parse that sequence number from a well-formatted string like the picture name
Replace "DSC" with the camera model (D3X)
You can use EXIFTool to extract the camera model from the EXIF dat ain the photos
Add a digit prior to the four-digit string to indicate the true numeric sequence of the file.
Good luck with this one. You'll have to do a filename search through all of your previous files to find out what 10,000 you're on. It's possible, but you'd have to do some specialized coding in AppleScript or shell script.
