Renaming a Schema name

Hi,
Is it possible in oracle to rename a Schema?
or
Is it possible in any other SQL language like t-sql,mysql etc?
Thanks
Aravindh

I think No,
What you can do is export the schema to a different user name(your desired username)
It all works on export and import.
Thanks,
Ganesh.

  • Rename database Schema

Is they any method to rename database schema name apart from taking export and import uitlities.
    Eg:- Alter user rename xx to yy;

No and it bugs the hell out of me! Like you say
you'll either have to use the fromuser - touser
syntax in import or the remap_schema option in
datapump. Another annoyance are the inflexibility of
oracle privileges. I want a simple command to say
grant insert on all tables in a particular schema
without having to list them out using object
privileges or using the ANY syntax meaning that a
user can insert into any schemas table. But this is what roles are for. You create the role and grant the role to the user.
With a bit of pl/sql it would be quite straightforward to create a role which had all the tables in a schema.

  • How to check the host name or rename the host name in Enterprise Manager

    Hello,
How do i check the host name or rename the host name in Enterprise Manager for Oracle 11g?
    Regards,
    Ming Man

there is a shell script called chgip or something
like that is there . I used it for IAS. I beleive the
same is there for database too
Rajesh AlexIf there is, I have not been able to find it.
Off the top of my head, changing the host name involves at least the following (others feel free to add on):
    For listener and connectivity
    - listener.ora
    - tnsnames.ora (on all clients as well)
    - potentially ldap.ora (on all clients as well)
    - init.ora parameter LOCAL_LISTENER
For admin using Enterprise Manager (starting 10g)
    - the contents of the sysman schema
    - the directory name of the OEM agent directory
    - the directory name of the OEM OC4J config directory
    - various config files in the OEM OC4J config directory
Oracle provides the emca to handle this last set.
In addition, the following refer to hosts that are [probably] not local
    - init parameter REMOTE_LISTENER (usually just points to a tnsnames.ora entry naming remote hosts)
    - init parm SMTP_OUT_SERVER
Again, adding to the list might be interesting.

  • Schema Names

    Dear OTN members,
Is there a way to make the schema name appear on the GUI's connecting to that schema. I understand Oracle creates a schema by default for a user created in the Database. Is it possible to rename this schema for the GUI's look and feel. Please throw some light on this.
    Thanks,
    Vivek

you cannot have a schema name different from the username.
Apart from the semantic, an oracle schema = an oracle username.

  • Rename Logical Schema / Logical Agent

    Hi,
is it possible to rename a logical schema / logical agent?
    Thanks in advance & kr
    Michael

    Hi,
Yes it is possible to rename logical schema/agent in ODI topology .
While renaming you will get a warning saying this is used in work repository and if you rename you need to make sure all code/objects using this logical schema are pointing to the new name . Else you may find issue during execution.
It is not a good practice to change logical schema name.

  • How to rename a column name in a table? Thanks first!

I have oracle enterprise edition 8.0.5 installed at windows 2000
    thank you
And I want to know how to rename a column name in a table?
    thanks

In Oracle 8i, your syntax would have worked.  However, if I
recall correctly, in Oracle 8.0, you can't rename or drop a
column directly.  One way to get around that problem is to
create another table based on a select statement from your
original table, providing the new column name as an alias if you
want to change the column name, or omitting that column from the
select statement if you just want to drop it.  Then drop the
original table.  Then re-create the original table based on a
select statement from the other table.  Then you can drop the
other table.  Here is an example:
    CREATE TABLE temporary_table_name
    AS
    SELECT age AS new_column_name,
           other_columns
    FROM   student
    DROP TABLE student
    CREATE TABLE student
    AS
    SELECT *
    FROM   temporary_table_name
    DROP TABLE temporary_table_name
Something that you need to consider before doing this is
dependencies.  You need to make a list of all your dependecies
before you do this, so that you can re-create them afterwards.
If there are a lot of them, it might be worthwhile to do
something else, like creating a view with an alias for the
column or just providing an alias in a select.  It depends on
what you need the different column name for.

  • How to configure the schema name dynamically based on user input.

configure the schema name dynamically based on user input.
    For ex:
    We have two schemas:
    Schema1  - base schema having 15 tables.
Schema2 -  tables which is specific to modules. Having only 10 tables which is also available in Schema1
Login to application using Schema 1
Access a particlular module and select the country. Here country selection is identified.
Based on the country selection, we need to connect the schema respectively.
If the user selects France --> It should connect Schema1
If the user selects Germeny --> It should connect schema2.
    Used: Eclipselink

You may want to have a different persistence unit for each country, then you just need to switch persistence units, and can put the schema in your orm.xml file.
You may also want to investigate EclipseLink multi-tenant support,
    http://www.eclipse.org/eclipselink/documentation/2.5/jpa/extensions/a_multitenant.htm
You can the schema in a persistence unit in code using a SessionCustomizer and the tableQualifier.

    Hi,
I want to rename my short name in my powerbook and I can't, it shows me You do not have sufficient access privileges to rename the iten "name".
    can somebody help me pls

You cannot properly change the short name of your account in the Finder; you need to use this application to do it, or change the short name to the desired name in the NetInfo Manager, which is in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder. Your short name is stored in several places in the NetInfo Manager; these are parts of the information for your user account and a few groups.
If there are no administrator accounts on the machine, use these instructions to add administrator access to one of your accounts.

  • How to get the current schema name

    Hi,
Can anybody please tell me how to get the current schema name, there is some inbuilt function for this, but i am not getting that. Please help me.
    Thanks

ok folks, I found the answer at Tom's as usual.
    http://asktom.oracle.com/tkyte/who_called_me/index.html
I rewrote it into a function for kicks. just pass the results of DBMS_UTILITY.FORMAT_CALL_STACK to this function and you will get back the owner of the code making the call as well some extra goodies like the name of the code and the type of code depending on the parameter. This ignores the AUTHID CURRENT_USER issues which muddles the schemaid. Quick question, does the average user always have access to DBMS_UTILITY.FORMAT_CALL_STACK or does this get locked down on some systems?
    cheers,

  • Schema name not present on filename for "Save Package Spec and Body"

In versions previous to 3.0 EA, the filename defaulted to schema.object.sql when using the "Save Package Spec and Body" on the right click of the package/body. This appears to have disappeared. Also, it now defaults to the .PLS ext/type, which I prefer to save them as .SQL (which i can override, but it would be nice in the file type dropdown). Also, I had posted a suggestion about the actual file not including the schema name prefixing the object name when using the "Save Package Spec and Body". i.e. it does create or replace package reader_package instead of what it should be doing which is create or replace package schema.reader_package

Would be nice indeed having the real name as default, and all supported PL/SQL types (as in the preferences) in the extensions dropdown.
As for the schema name inside, I reckon that would do damage for more users than it would do good for others. But a preference would be best of course.
