Renaming a workbook

Hi Everyone,
Hope all is well,
How do you rename a workbook...
What i am doing is:
a) open exisiting workbook from database
b) file save as new name to database
c) file/manage workbooks/sharing/ assign privileges (to alot of users
d) delete old workbook
a) Is there an easier way to rename a workbook?
b) Is there an easier way to assign privileges instead of having to pick the users from a list, for each
report than one creates.
I need to rename a few reports, and the above process would take time, and was hoping for an easier
way to rename and assign privileges....
tx in advance for your ideas, sandra

Hi Michael,
a) thx for writing...
b) i forgot to mention that we use Desktop, and after i wrote this post, went to your
book to read chapter 14 - query management.
The library idea with corporate standards is a good idea.
Is the library idea for Discoverer Plus?
You mention Oracle apps. Uh oh... not sure if we have that here
i'm more like the definition of the superuser that you mention in the book....
So I appreciate your suggestion that could be used by a Desktop user to manually go to EUL5_DOCUMENTS.
b) so i guess that the table that holds the privilege info (the users who are allowed to access this report)
also has a key that's ID,
c) just wondering... when you say manually update EUL5_DOCUMENTS:
do you use TOAD to update the table 'in place'? or do you write an update SQL statement?
Your reply inspired another question, so will post on a diff heading....
tx, sandra

  • Rename of Workbooks in BEx roles

    Hello together,
how can I rename workbooks which are published/saved in BEx menu roles ?
    I use BW 7.0
I tried to rename the workbooks in the role administration, but this changes have no influence of the view in the "Open Workbook" menu in BEx. And a change in the se16 table RSRWBINDEXT is not possible.
Thank you for your help in advance.

    hello,
Try  to go to the role in PFCG, reimport the menu under the Menu tab.
did u try in the open workbook menu if you could rename it.
did u try to log off from the sys and do a login again to BEX and check?

  • Need to rename (or copy) workbooks, but retain sharing

We are moving from Discoverer 4i to 10g. Part of this process involves a new naming convention for workbooks. When I can open the current one and use "Save As" to save it under the new name, but when I do that, any sharing done to the original is not brought over to the new wb.
Is there a way to rename (or copy) a workbook, without losing the sharing?
Note: The only two places I see the workbook name in the EUL is in the DOC_NAME column of the EUL4_DOCUMENTS and EUL4_QPP_STATS tables (Discoverer 4i). If I can't use Discoverer itself to do this, would it work to rename workbooks with a SQL script?
    Thanks.
    Mitch

    Hi Mitch
You are correct. Discoverer has no in-built mechanism for renaming a workbook and using Save As will lose sharing.
As you have correctly identified, the name of the workbook is only in two places, in EUL4_DOCUMENTS and EUL4_QPP_STATS. Updating the DOC_NAME column, using SQL, in the EUL4_DOCUMENTS will do what you want. The sharing will be retained as that is managed using the DOC_ID which you will not be changing.
By the way, manually changing or updating the EUL tables using SQL is not recommended by Oracle and could, if not done with care and restraint, cause the EUL not to work. I mention this to discourage you from making other changes.

  • Pulling one worksheet out of workbook

I have a workbook that goes back about 6 years to when we were on desktop. It has grown to around 30 worksheets. There are 2 worksheets that I would like to make its own workbook. In desktop, all I had to do was select the worksheet and "pull" it right out to another workbook or to the desktop where it created a new workbook. Since in disco plus I can only have one workbook open at a time, is there an easy way to do make another workbook or do I have to rename this workbook and go delete worksheet 30 times? Also, if I wanted to add another worksheet to this new workbook from a different workbook, is the only way to do this is to recreate the wheel in the new workbook?
    Thanks.

End User Layer Library - 11.1.1.6.0
Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.3.0 - 64bit Production

I asked out IT guy and they pulled the plug on desktop so that is not an option. What I did instead of rename and delete, I scheduled the report with just the tabs I wanted and saved that as my new workbook. Plus has some nice functions that desktop didn't have, mainly being able to export the query and then using excel to refresh my data without going back into discoverer.... learned that on my own. But I still say plus is a step back in time. Oh well...
    Thanks.

  • Rename the attached workbook in bex broadcasting

    Hi All,
We received workbook as attachedment after it is been broadcast.
however the name of the attached workbook comes as auto generated sequence numer.(e.g. "WORKBOOK_29BNO77P7UY7WOEFNEDS9CI2X")
is it possible to have date time and some other text as the name of attached workbook instead of auto generated sequence number.
    Regards,

    Hi Alnoor,
    This will help you..
    http://scn.sap.com/thread/328840
    You may try this too:
    1) Go to SE38 program  RS_PREC_PLAN ( Precal TEST program). Enter the Technical id and the Variant (this is mandatory) for the workbook and execute by entering the emai id..You will receive the workbook as the attachment with the File name and not technical id..
    2) The only issue here is the subject of the mail will always be TEST..
    3) Create a copy of this program Z_RS_PREC_PLAN and have the Subject and date field in the Selection screen..You can make changes so that the date and the Text for the subject will be populated with the values you enter in the selection screen..

  • Rename a Query that feeds a workbook

Is there anyway to change the name of the workbook query without breaking the workbook. I wanted my queries to start with a 'Y' instead of the "Z" for security reasons but already built the query starting with "Z". The workbook has some formatting done to it that I didn't want to loose.
Will reward points for any help
    Thanks
    Richard

    Hi Richard,
    CAUTION!!!
Jacob's suggestion is the only really fool-proof way of doing things.  If, however, you have a situation like Karen's (the link that Bhanu Gupta recommended), where there are many workbooks that you want to change ... you might have incentive to attempt what Karen did.
The easy part of doing this is to access the (very) hidden worksheet named SAPBEXqueries, as Bhanu Gupta explained.  Once you have this sheet visible, you will NOT find the query technical name!  What you will find is the query's server ID.  (If you access the Properties dialog in the workbook, this is the second item shown on the Information tab.)
The more difficult part is ... when you saved the query with the new name (Y instead of Z), some other unique identifiers might have changed.  For example, if you have only reusable structures ... you are in luck!  If any of your structures are NOT reusable structures, then the structure itself has a unique identifier and each element in the structure has a unique identifier.  You will need to swap the old ID with the new ID for EACH of these.  Any that are not swapped will not appear in the result table (and user will need to use Change query, local view to get them back).
Also, Conditions ... will have new names.  They will all be set to inactive in the workbook unless you do as explained in the posting that Bhanu pointed you to and swap the old name with the new name.  Those names are NOT on the SAPBEXqueries sheet.  They are saved with the Excel file, but can only be accessed via the Insert >> Name dialog (or using VBA).  And, here you must be VERY careful since BW is going to be very picky about the parent of those names.  Each one must have the SAPBEXqueries worksheet as its parent (the default for all Names in a workbook is that the workbook itself is the parent).  Manipulating this manually is a chore.  You are almost forced to use VBA for this.
In short, it might take A LOT of work to get your workbooks back to "normal".  If you follow Jacob's advice, everything will work out more easily.  The only issue then is IF you have Conditions and IF you want the Conditions visible ... these will not display automatically.
Wish I had better news for you.

  • How to Change the Folder Name in Workbook

    Hi there
I have a situation, I have created the workbook in existing folder (ORDER) in TEST business Area, now I have to move this report to another Business area (Custom) which has folder (Custom Order Folder), how can I change workbook folder name and item name, because my custom folder has different name.
    Like-- Original BA (TEST)
    ORDER (Folder)
    Item1
    Item2
    Item3
    Custom BA
    CUSTOM Order Folder
    Custom Item1
    Custom Item2
    Custom Item3
    Any help Appreciated.
    Thank
    ASIM

    Hi,
If you are able to export and delete the original folder, then you can rename the identifiers of the new folder to be the same as the original folderand then open the workbook so that it uses the new folder. If you save the workbook, then rename the identifiers and re-import the orignial folder then you should find that the workbook continues to use the new folder.
Otherwise take a look at this thread (Re: How to switch folder that report using form one to another? for a solution.

  • Can't find a renamed file using Applescript

Here is what I'm trying to accomplish:
    1) User selects .csv file
    2) Finder duplicates file and renames as a txt file
    3) Microsoft Excel imports this newly made file as a pipe delimited text file with text formatting in all cells (On a Mac, Excel won't take pipe delimited csv's, it automatically assumes they are comma delimited)
    4) Microsoft Excel then saves this as the same name of the original user extraction location with the same name but in the .xlsx or XML format
Preferably with that duplicated file now gone, whether its used and converted with Excel, or later deleted from Finder.
Here's the code that I'm working with so far:
    on run
set csvfile to (choose file) as alias
tell application "Finder" to set tempname to (name of csvfile as text) as text
    --display dialog "" & tempname

                        set theDupe to duplicate csvfile
set name extension of theDupe to "txt"
              end tell
              tell application "Microsoft Excel"
      open text file filename theDupe data type delimited field info {{1, text format}, {2, text format}, {3, text format}, {4, text format}, {5, text format}, {6, text format}, {7, text format}, {8, text format}, {9, text format}, {10, text format}, {11, text format}, {12, text format}, {13, text format}, {14, text format}, {15, text format}, {16, text format}, {17, text format}, {18, text format}, {19, text format}} other char "|" with use other
set theworksheet to worksheet 1 of active workbook
save as theworksheet filename tempname file format Excel XML file format with overwrite
              end tell
    end run
The error I run into is that after it duplicates and renames the file, it is trying to refer to something that it can't find.
Please I'm stuck at this point, any suggestions or helpful hints??

This actually works, I just need to rename "theDupe" file at the end to take off the " copy"
    on run
set csvfile to (choose file) as alias
--tell application "Finder" to set parentFolder to container of file csvfile
--tell application "Finder" to set tempname to (parentFolder as string) & (name of csvfile as text)
    --display dialog "" & tempname
              tell application "Finder"
set theDupe to (duplicate file csvfile) as alias
set name extension of theDupe to "txt"
      --display dialog theDupe as string
              end tell
              tell application "Microsoft Excel"
      open text file filename (theDupe as string) data type delimited field info {{1, text format}, {2, text format}, {3, text format}, {4, text format}, {5, text format}, {6, text format}, {7, text format}, {8, text format}, {9, text format}, {10, text format}, {11, text format}, {12, text format}, {13, text format}, {14, text format}, {15, text format}, {16, text format}, {17, text format}, {18, text format}, {19, text format}} other char "|" with use other
set theworksheet to worksheet 1 of active workbook
save as theworksheet filename (theDupe as string) file format Excel XML file format
              end tell
--tell application "Finder" to delete file (theDupe as string)
tell application "Finder" to set name extension of theDupe to "xlsx"

  • Max number of dataproviders in the same workbook

    Hi,
Do you know please what is the max number of dataproviders (recommanded by SAP) we can use in the same workbook / Bex analyzer?
For information, we are in BI 7 based on excel 2003.
    Thx.

    One suggestion is:
Each tab (copy of the query) would have distinct filter value(s).   In workbook settings,  Uncheck "Allow Refresh of Individual Queries".   Also in WB settings, Do Not Refresh at Opening.    For the entire 50-tab workbook, the filter is limited to a minimum:  company code and the date range because the other filters are hardcoded in each tab.    When you refresh and change variable values at opening the file, all you enter is the company code value and the date
You might also want to change the Grid Properties:  Uncheck Apply Formatting (for performance); and Uncheck Allow Navigation.  You can add these back later.   Might as well uncheck Sort.
I have my own question about the DPs.  Can you rename them from the generic Data Provider 1 or copy of Data Provider 1?

  • Discoverer Viewer and Scheduled workbooks error

    Hi
    Hope someone can help.
I am scheduling workbooks in Discoverer Plus 10.1.2.48 with the intention of viewing them in viewer.
The report shows itself as running okay in Admin, but when I open the report in Viewer or Plus I get errors including:
ORA-03106 Fatal two task communication error
    or
"unable to generate sql for this scheduled workbook"
I suspect they might be retrieving fairly large result sets (10 K rows +)
Please can anyone offer advice on how to resolve this?
    Many thanks

    Hi Tim
Well just the way the file is put together, like is it using SID= or SERVER=, does it use SERVER=DEDICATED, do you have one ADDRESS= or multiple?
To make sure everything is right, rename both TNSNAMES and SQLNET.ORA files, then suse Net Configuration Assistant to set up a connection. Then compare that with what you have already and make the necessary changes.
I also noticed that Russ has made a posting concerning a similar error. You should take a look. Its either in here on the Discoverer forum.
    Best wishes

  • Display Report for 30 Profit center in 30 sheets in a Workbook

    Hi all
    I have a very unusual requirement .
    Part A.
I need to display a particular report for a profit center , then I need to display the same report for each inner node of the above Profit center in separate sheets . & all these sheets should be renamed with the name of the Profit Center .
These then need to sent via a Information Broadcaster to the user.
    e.g if I have a Profit Center A. & within Profit Center A , the inner hierarchy nodes are A.a , A.b , A.c etc
Then my 1st sheet should contain the report for Profit Center A with the sheet name as Profit Center A . then the next sheet would contain the report for Profit Center A.a & also renamed as Profit Center A.a , then 3rd sheet would contain the report for Profit Center A.b & also renamed as Profit Center A.b
This is part A. Would this be possible  ?
I know that I can manually add the report each time in each sheet separately . But can be this done Dynamically ?
Also the renaming of the sheet , can something be done to pick up the value of the profit center manually ?
    Part B
I need to send the above prepared report workbook through Broadcaster to the users.
can the above settings for multiple values of the Variable Profit center be created in the broadcaster setting ?
When I searched for this , the Broadcaster allows multiple variables selection for some Formats ,but not for Excelsheets.
    Please help me out here.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Check SPRO configuration for account assignment settings @
SRM server->cross application basic settings->account assignment->Define account assignment
    1. Check for your acc assignment category for ex. WBS , what are account assignment fields are maintained.
if not there maintain profit_ctr from search help.
    2. If you are not able to track profit_ctr in search help then you may need to make respective profit center entry in table BBP_C_ACC_F and then perfom step 1.
after above steps even you are not able to get profit center on screen then you may need to check
    1. Meta data configuration
    2. WDP component for profit_ctr field

  • Problem exporting workbooks from development EUL to test EUL

I have created some workbooks in a Development EUL. We want to promote them to a test EUL for users to test on. I shared my workbooks to both my boss's user name, and to the responsiibility that he uses when he does Discoverer Admin stuff. In development, my boss is able to see these workbooks. He can open them and run them. So my boss did one export out of development and into test for the business area. That went just fine and he can see the business area and its folders in the test EUL. So next he did a new export out of development, picking my workbooks. As the workbook owner, I do NOT exist at this time in the test EUL. When my boss did the import of that workbook .eex file into the test eul, we got a security warning message on each workbook. Since I did not exist, on the import it should not matter which option you pick - either make the admin user the owner out right, or make owner only if owner does not exist. My boss is not able to see the workbooks we imported. The main Discoverer administrator says the workbooks did get imported. So we are puzzled as to why he cannot see them. Has anyone run into a situation like this before? Any ideas on what might be happening to us? Is it possible that we have run across a programming error in Discoverer admin? Thanks for any time and assistance on this.

Well, what we ended up doing is that in the development EUL, I shared the workbooks to the responsibility that my boss uses. My boss then exported the workbooks out of development and imported to the test EUL. In the import wizard he specified to rename the existing objects. Import log shows objects being renamed and then a successful import completion. My boss can now see the workbooks in the test EUL. So while he could see and run in development shared to user name, it seems as if when imiporting, the responsibility somehow takes over and is required. We are waiting to see if the test user can see the workbooks (currently shared to user name), or if will need to have the test user give us a responsibiity to share to. Beginning to wonder why Oracle even gives us the option to share to a user name if it won't always work.

  • Problem in workbook creation

    Hi Experts,
I am trying to insert 2 queries in a wrokbook but it overwrites and only 1 query is getting inserted.
    Please advise.
    Regards
    Shweta

    Hi,
    Open the Query.
In the Analysis tool bar in the bex analyser -->  tools icon --> 'Copy WorkSheet'.
You will get another worksheet with the standard bex options like filter tab, information tab etc.  Rename it as required.
Go to design mode and click on the properties of the Analysis grid in the new worksheet.
Create a new data provider and Assign the second query to the new data provider.
    Save the workbook.

  • Title in workbook

I'am trying to make a title on a sheet, and i don't see a setting for this, I have checked the title check box.
    Can somebody please help me?

If it's just a worksheet you want to name you should be able to select the sheet (so you have the results) and simply right-click on the tab at the bottom of the screen You will then be able to Delete, Move, and Rename.
If it's a workbook you wnat to modify, go to File -> Manage Workbooks. You can modify a few things but once the workbook has a name, you can't change it (unless someone can tell me different).
