Renaming files in document directory

Hi,
in my app I save files to the document directory. Everything works fine.
But now I want to rename files from within the app. So in my uitextfield I type in the new title of the file and click save.
How do I do that? I have searched but I couldn't find anything.

I have a scenario where we leave the flatfile in the sourcedirectory after we transported it via XI to the target. To make sure I do not send the same file twice I want to rename it right after the transport. So far I do not really know how.

As mentioned by other reply, first option is you can Archive the files in the different folder.

When downloading a file from google drive and save in my phones document directory,the file size is compressed. Why?

I have downloaded files from "Dropbox" and save in phones document directory,After downloading in document directory,the size of the download file is same as the actual size in dropbox. I can also open it from document directory.Everything is ok. But when I follow the same process for google drive files, the file size is compressed(if actual size of file is 1.2Mb the download file size is 61Kb). So I can not open it from document directory.So, How can i download the actual size of the file in document directory? I am using google api objectivec client for google drive.

Using anonymous to delete or rename files

We have setup pure-ftpd on our Sles 10sp3 Oes2, we would like the anonymous user to be able to delete or rename files in the directory, but we cannot find any setting for this on the configuration file. The anonymous home directory is located on the NSS volume. So is it possible to configure the anonymous user to delete or rename files ?

Install few files in Public Documents Directory

I am creating an installer in which I am installing the actual application in ProgramFiles folder. Few supporting files have to be added to the Public Documents directory. This directory would be in different locations based on the OS - Windows XP/Vista/7. But I don't find such a category in the Source Files page under "Destination View" list. There is a [PersonalFolder] but as per LV help, this directory pertains to the Windows user who is currently logged in. So, how do I install these supporting files directly into Public Documents folder?

1. Use a foreach loop with file enumerator pointing to first directory.
Inside loop have a ssis variable of type string to get filename (@[User::FileName])
Choose option as Fully Qualified in loop
2. Add another variable called @[User::DestFileName], set EvaluateAsExpression true for it and set expression like this
REPLACE(@[User::FileName],<source directory path>,<destination directory path>)
put actual paths in above expression in your case
and another variable called @[User::RenameFileName], set EvaluateAsExpression true for it and set expression like this
REPLACE(@[User::FileName],".","_old.")
3. Create a boolean variable say @[User::FileEXists]
4. Add a Script Task inside the loop and pass @DestFileName variable in ReadOnly mode and FileExists in ReadWrite mode

File System Task above to this task and choose constraint as OnSuccess and Multiple Constraint option as Or (dotted line)
Then once executed it will work as per your requirement

How to show the pdf file into the UIWebView from iphone documents directory?

I am working on web services right now I am getting string into base64 format. After decoding that string into NSData i am saving that data as a pdf into Document directory of iphone. Now the problem is that when I want to show the pdf into UIwebView then it is showing blank page. But when I am checking into /Users/pareshkarnawat/Library/Application Support/iPhone Simulator/4.3.2/Applications/ the pdf file is correctly generated and working fine when I ope it.
How to show that pdf file into UIwebview ? or is there any alernative for this.
Any ideas on how I can go about this? I have looked at a few posts and still can't seem to figure it out.

The result is a UIWebView that displays a blank page. No errors occur in the UIWebView delegate method. The thing is that data has the correct length, in bytes, for the PDF I am trying to display, and I also get the pdf file in Library/Application Support/iPhone Simulator/4.3.2/Applications/ Does anyone have an idea as to what might be going wrong here or how I can better debug this problem?

Unable to Rename Files and Folders inside Sites Directory

Seemed to start happening since upgrading to OS 10.5.2 from 10.4.9 and/or activating Apache & PHP. Get info for Sites shows my user and admin accounts having R&W privileges and everyone having reading privileges. Applied privileges to enclosed items for both R&W accounts. Any file or folder with Sites that I get info for has the name & extension grayed out.

I have exact same problem, cannot rename the files, even clicking like mad on a file, there is no F2 key to rename files like in windows
My mac is a core i 7 modern, ok I try to reboot and come back (Mac was on since more than 10 days)
If it works I hesitate to:
- either thank you
- either throw my Mac away and by a surface ! (at least the PC everybody knows it has to be rebooted to fix stupid bugs)

Problem renaming File

I have a problem about renaming file. This is the file.
"C:\Documents and Settings\Rose 2\Desktop\download directory\5406-5473\a " . It has no extension so I need to add extension(.mp3). here's my code:

By the way, your code gives no hint as to what setAudiofile() does - including the possibility, albeit unlikely, that it deletes a.mp3. Rather than post a snippet excised from a longer piece of code, construct a SSCCE that illustrates renameTo() not working.

Sharepoint 2013 ItemAdded event receiver for renaming files is not working

In SP 2013 I coded an event receiver that intercepts the ItemAdded event and it just renames the file.
It is a synchronous event (I added <Synchronization>Synchronous</Synchronization> in the Elements.xml).

The problem is that when I upload a .txt file using Internet Explorer, just after the renaming is done, IE says that something went wrong and when I inspect the log files I see:

So it is clear that the fact that I renamed the file is causing an issue in the SharePoint upload logic.
As a solution what I did was to not declare it as Synchronous, but if I do it then there is another error when Sharepoint shows the Edit Properties dialog... in this case the upload is OK but when it is time to show that Edit Property dialog IE fails and
says that the file has been already modified, or that "something went wrong".
If I use a synchronous event I get one problem. If I use the asynchronous event I get another problem... It's very frustating and I am pretty sure that a so important API like Event Receivers should have support renaming files so I hope someone can tell
me what I am doing wrong.

Another way you can accomplish your scenario. Instead of deleting or archiving in beginning just move the file from inbound to archive location after business flow completion.
In case of error, the file will remain at original position as moving operation is at the end.
First read the file using read operation, then at the end create a file adapter with sync read operation. Change the entries in .jca generated with below sample.

Deleting & renaming files - is there a shortcut to finder?

I am a recent convert from PC to Mac. So far so good. However, one thing starts to drive me up the wall which is deleting/renaming files in programs such as photoshop, word, excel etc.etc.
As far as I can tell, this is only possible in the finder menu. Is this Correct? I am using a lot of folders and subfolders - sometimes 3-4 levels deep. Every time I need to change/delete a file or filename - lets say while in photoshop, I have to go to finder and click my way through several levels of folders to the actual file I need to change. This is somewhat annoying and timeconsuming.
Question 1: is there a way to do these operations in - lets say photoshop directly?
Question 2: If not, is there a shortcut key that would point me automatically to the file in finder where I can make the changes?
Your input would be very helpful and save me some aggravation.

Thanks for your input. You are correct as far as "save" and "save as" is concerned. Windows and Mac work the same way.
However, as far as I can tell, in Mac you can only "delete" or "rename" a file in "finder" which forces you to open up finder and locate the file in order to delete or change it.
In windows you can do these 2 functions directly in the program (such as photoshop, excel or words). You do not have to go to "explorer or root directory" to make these changes which I believe would be the equivalent of "finder".
In any case, Terence solved the problem. By command clicking the name (title) of the file in any program, it opens up the directory in "finder". This way makes it easy to select the file and do the changes.

Cannot rename file with non-ASCII characters when using the

My application moves files from one directory to another by calling File[] srcFiles = srcDir.listFiles() to get a list of files in the source directory, and then calling srcFiles.renameTo(destFile) to rename each file.
This does not work (renameTo returns false and the file is not moved) under the following circumstances:
- the file's leaf name contains non-ASCII characters, for example "�"
- the OS is Solaris 9
- the LANG and LC_* environment variables are unset, i.e. the C locale is being used
If I set the LANG environment variable to, for example, en_GB.UTF-8 then the rename succeeds.
I have tried calling srcFiles[index].getName().getBytes("UTF-8") and the non-ASCII characters are being replaced with ? (0x3f) characters when LANG is unset.
Is this a bug in the JRE? I would argue that since my code does not actually manipulate the filename (I just use the File object that File.listFiles() gives me) then the rename should succeed. Of course I would not expect the file name to be displayed correctly if I printed it out.
I have reproduced this behaviour with JDK 1.4.2_05 and 1.5.0_04 on Solaris 9.

I considered setting the locale in the environment (this sounds like the "correct" fix to me and we might implement it later), but this application shares a WebLogic server with many other applications so we would have to do a huge amount of testing to make sure that the locale change wouldn't break the other apps. In the end I worked around the problem by making the code that generates the filenames in the first place strip out any non-ASCII characters (the names of the files are not critically important).
Looking forward to JSR-203, in the meantime perhaps a note about this behaviour in the java.io.File javadoc would be useful.
