Renaming songs and videos

I recently lost the drive that contains all of my songs and my video files for my collection. Thankfully I have everything on my 5th Generation iPod. I know how to transfer all of the songs and videos off of the iPod and onto a new computer. My question is when you look at the files they are all named with a series of 4 alpha numeric characters. Is there a good way to mass rename these files? With all of my songs and vidoes there are over 9000 files and going through and renaming them manually would be a very time consuming headache. Any tips on how I can get these renamed?
Also on a side note is there a place on the iPod where it stores playlists so I don't have to completely rebuild them?

Hi again, desbest,
Thanks for providing those details.
First off, try resetting your iPod. To reset an iPod:
Press and hold the Menu and Select (center) buttons together for 5-10 seconds.
Thia may take several attempts. For more effect, try connecting your iPod to a power source, like your computer's USB port (or a wall charger, if available).
If this only happens when using your iPod (or accessing its songs through iTunes), then I would suggest that you try restoring your iPod to factory settings.
For instructions on how to do that, check this out:

If your iPod only has music playback problems with your iTunes Store purchases, then check out the suggestions from this article:

I want to move all the songs and videos that I purchased using Apple ID "A" over to Apple ID "B".

    Thanks to all.
    I'm using Macbook Air

You can't do this yourself; if desired, you can ask the iTunes Store staff if they'll do it, but they probably won't.

  • IPod touch suddenly fast forwarding through songs and videos + voice control screen cutting in

    Hi
In the last couple of days, it has started fast forwarding through songs and videos randomly. The voice control screen is also cutting in randomly. It happens as soon as I turn it on and play my first track or video. The only other problem I have noticed is that the volume controls on my headphones are no longer working. The headphones would be less than 6 months old and are genuine Apple ones. I don't think the problem is related because if I unplug them the fast forwarding still happens. I've tried powering it off and then re-starting it and I have been keeping the software up to date on it so I'm not sure what else I can try.
In saying that, this morning it seems to be working properly but I'm worried the problem will return. I still can't adjust the volume via the headphones though.
If anyone has any ideas about what I can do to resolve the fast forwarding problem, I would appreciate the feedback. The headphones I don't really care about because I can replace them.
I've had my iPod touch for a few years and use it pretty heavily so part of me is wondering whether it is just getting to the end of its life. I'm not sure what sort of lifespan I can expect from my iPod touch.
    Thanks

    Try:
    - Try a regular pair of headphones
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • All my songs and videos gone after app transfer to my laptop (iOS 5.0)

All my songs (about 1800 songs/12GB) and videos (10gb) have disappeared while two of my apps, Asphalt 6 and Real Racing 2 were being transferred from my iPod to my laptop. I guess they were being transferred since they have been updated and I haven't synced my ipod into my laptop for a while. But today while it was trasferring, it said that I'm running out of storage continuously and later on I saw that the transfer was done, but my songs and videos were gone! And my last backup was like when the iOS first came out, so it would mean nothing to restore from backup right now.
I can see all of the songs and videos that were on the iPod still on iTunes, but when i click on them, it shows the exclamation mark which means that they have been disappeared or something... Any help please?

The storage space taken up by "Other" can be made up of, notes or files of any kind you've added to the iPod whilst using it as a hard disk or album artwork. Or sometimes when the iPod data base has become corrupt.
There will always be a few MBs of used space under "other" but if it's in GBs it's unusually large. This often happens when the iPod data base becomes corrupt.
If the iPod is enabled for disk use, you can look at the folders on the iPod through Explorer or Finder (on a Mac) and delete anything you don't want.
If it's a corruption of the iPod database (as seems likely here) it will probably need to be restored, see how to restore the iPod to factory settings which will erase the iPods contents and reclaim the used space.
Then reload the music from iTunes.

I downloaded a new version of Itunes on my PC now some songs and videos have stopped working as well as ringtones have disappeared.

Can't get any help from apple. their suppot *****! I want to get someone on the **** phone or a live chat but cant. *** APPLE????? please let mw know if you find SOMETHING i can try next. I'm out of ideas and patience!

  • Why do some songs and videos stop playing or freeze while playing?

I have an 80 gig iPod classic that I never had problems with until now. I started noticing songs and videos I bought from iTunes aren't working. They will play for 30 seconds, stop, and go to the next song. I called iTunes, and they told me to use the online support but it hasn't helped me. Every time I go on there, it just tells me to call again. I've also tried to restore my iPod and it didn't work, so I'm wondering if anyone else has found and alternate way to fix it.

I have a similar problem.  My IPod 5 and 3Gen will stop playing songs about halfway through. The timer indicates its playing but no music.  When I've checked these songs on in ITunes they pay fine and completely.  I've tried removing them from ITunes and downloading again but with no success.  This seems to be random and as I have over 2K worth of songs its difficult for me to determin where the problem is.  One of the reasons I purchased the IPod 5 was hopes to eliminate this problem.  Any ideas on what other things I can do to solve this problem?

  • My songs and videos are not playing.

    Hello,
My songs and videos are not playing in the iPod. If i play music on online in iPod, it works. So, please reply me as soon as possible.
    Thank You,
    Krishna Patel

I have had similar problems in the past, but not with so many songs...  If you got them on the iTunes store, and there aren't so many, just re-download them, this happens to be sometimes.  I'm guessing that there was some error during the download.  sorry.

  • Songs and video gone from 5G iPod, games and photos remain

I hook my iPod up to two computers regularly, at home and at work. Because of this, I don't do any auto-synching. Last night, I disconnected my iPod from my home computer without trouble. When I connected it to my iMac at work, however, the songs and videos disappeared. iTunes asked me to name and synch up the iPod, which it never has before.
The songs are still there, apparently, as the capacity indicator shows 8.3GB of "Other" space being used along with the 31.6MB of Photos that I can actually see. There is no indication of Game space used, although I do have one game on there that I can play.
Resetting the iPod doesn't work. I don't want to try a restore, because I'd rather not have to upload all the content from my home computer to the iPod again, losing all of my Star and Audio Level settings, which I only control on the iPod. Anyone know how I can convince the iPod that Other is actually Music and Videos?

Sounds like the directory holding the music has been erased. Odd that it still had some photos. An undelete/unformat software might be able to rebuild most of your files from "free" sections of the disc that haven't yet had anything new written into them. If you can recover the files to the point that they are taking up space on the iPod's drive (or they can be copied to another drive) there are other posts that help with rebuilding them into a library.
There probably are some suitable free tools out there if you can wade through all the "free" recovery tools that are only free up until the point of any actual recovery.... Otherwise shell out a little cash or wait until you can be reunited with your backup.

  • How can I add new songs and videos...?

How can I add new songs and videos to my ipod without syncing as it wants to wipe out the ipod and replace all the existing media?

On the ipod itself?  If so how?
I've tried checking on box by the sync music to deselect "Entire music library", but get the  message about "Are sure.... All existing content on the iPod will be removed and replaced...".  However, I don't want to do that as there is music on my ipod I don't want to loose, got it from a previous computer that crashed and could not be recovered.

  • Sync with vista doubles up some songs and video

when I sync my iphone 5 to my vista computer it makes copies of some of the song and videos even if i dellete on phone and computer they come back on next sync why?

Sounds like you may need to re-download the entire albums from iTunes. See this KB article for how to download past purchases: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519.
I'd suggest doing it one album at a time. Delete one, download it from your purchase histor, then the next, etc.

  • How Do I Arrange Songs and Videos Manually?

Hi. How do you arrange songs and videos manually? Can you just click, hold it and put it where you want it on the Song or Video the pane where it's displayed?
    Thank you in advance.
    Gbu.

The tip below can also be use straight off in iTunes.
First you create a playlist (not Smart Playlist).
Drag in a couple of songs/videos you want for your devices into the list.
Select your playlist under PLAYLISTS on the iTunes left panel.
Click the top left column above the 1,2,3..., it is the column left of Name. (You will see ascending or descending arrow head)
Arrange the list content the way you want it by dragging the songs/video in the list up or down.
Select your device under DEVICE on the left panel in iTunes.
Select Music tab and make sure your new playlist is included for Syncing
    Sync.
