Render PDF to Image and Mail

I have been trying save the following workflow as a Folder Action Plug-in:
1. Render PDF Pages as Images (To produce a jpeg of a PDF)
2. New Mail Message (To create an e-mail with the jpeg attached)
3. Send Outgoing Messages (To send the e-mail)
When I test the folder, the system appears to skip the Render PDF step and goes straight to creating and sending the e-mail without an attachment. If I save the workflow as an Application it will work, but not as a Folder Action Plug-in. Any idea why not?

I once posted a VI to create PNG files from LaTeX commands where I used Ghostscript to convert from eps to png.  It turns out, with only a very minor modification the subVI will also convert PDF to PNG.  Try this out.  You can install Ghostcript and then add the path to gswin32c.exe to the path control (if you install to the default location you shouldn't have to change anything other than drive letter).

  • How to preserve original filename in Automator 'render pdf as images'?

Using Automator's 'render pdf as images' will result in output of files in random names
What are the correct workflow if the desired output files would be the original filename? Ex: manual.pdf ---> manual.jpg, manual.pdf ---> 0001bU.jpg
PS: I have tried 'Rename Finder Items--->Make sequential' but it still doesnt produce the desired output, it only makes manual.pdf ---> 0001bU-01.jpg

You convert the CMYK document to RGB using standard color management. The rest is beside the point. We know nothing about your experience in 3D nor your actual artwork, settings, system and so on. Just slapping on a texture on a 3D model doesn't make it look "real" or even photo-realistic. You have to understand lighting, shading and how to prepare textures properly, stuff for which you can find any number of tutorials on the web (though not specifically for PS 3D).

  • Automator: render pdf to images

I am taking a folder of pdf files all named numerically in the order they should be in and rendering them to images using the automator "render pdf to images."
This outputs the images with completly random names. Even using the "Rename Finder Items" as suggested right after the Render pdf to images still does not produce images in the right order.
This is really frustrating as I can't even see how this function could be useful for anyone if it can't produce images with some kind of logical file names.
Does anyone have experience with this?

Not sure what the testers of some of these actions were thinking about, but you might try using the Dispense Item Incrementally action to step through your file list one at a time.

  • Automator: Render PDF as Images changes the filename.

I have a PDF named "Bamboo Cutting Board Sales Sheet.pdf" that contains one image.
When I run the PDF through the Automator action Render PDF As Images, the filename is saved and changed to "002ddf334.jpg.
How do I keep the original file name?

    I see.
This worked when I tested on 1 PDF:
The Run Shell Script Action is:
    basename=${1##*/}
    echo ${basename%.*}
If it's still out of order, add: Sort Finder Items [by creation date] after Render PDF Pages as Images

  • Automator - When using the Render PDF as Image action, the first file is out of order (naming).  How can I fix this?

I am creating an Automator Action to render PDF files as Images.  When the PDF is multiple pages, the first page has no numbers, so it ends up at the end of the list.  Here's an example:
When it is a single page, the result is:
    filename.png
When it is multiple pages, the result is:
    filename 141.png
    filename 142.png
    filename 143.png
    filename 144.png
    filename.png
First, it always seems to start at 141...not sure why.
Second, I did try to add an action to rename and make sequential, however the resulting list was in the same order... except with additional numbers at the end.
    Any suggestions?

    I see.

  • Creating PDFs using Pages and Mail

    Hi,
I'm  a contractor and I use Pages and Mail to to create PDFs of invoices that I email to clients in the form of attachments. I have Mail set up to to send only Windows friendly attachments, and to put them at the end of emails. I have one client, the facilities director of a large community college, who consistently cannot open the attachments; he can read the text of the emails, but he cannot open the attachments. He has to send them to his IT department, where they use a mac computer of some kind to open the attachments, which they send them back to him. I've discussed this with their IT department, and they've told me that they have to use a mac to open my attachments. If anyone can offer some advice on this issue, I'd appreciate it.

I know from my own experience that although there should be no problems with Mail's attachments, just once in a while recipients have the problems you describe.
The solution that worked for me 100% reliably was to install the paid for plug-in Attachment Tamer from: lokiware.info
You can use it for free to test it before committing to purchase, but I'm pretty sure all your recipients will be able to cope with all your attachments.
To elaborate, I used to have to send numerous attachments every day to mostly PC users. Randomly some would complain that I'd either forgotten to include the attachment (I hadn't) or they couldn't read it/open it/save it, etc. It's quite likely the fault was in the way their email client was configured. All I know is that as soon as I installed Attachment Tamer (it was Mail Attachments Iconizer back then) I never had any more complaints. For the knowledge that I wasn't going to be pestered into trying different ways of sending the files I was happy to pay for the plugin.
(Usual caveat: I have no connection with Lokiware, but very happy to recommend their product).

  • HT2672 Download PDFs from Safari and Mail

This does not work for me.  When I try to download the linked file, all I get is a irrelevant html web page.  This happens with pdf links in Apple Mail and Safari.  What happened to my pdfs I used to be able to download in Firefox and MS Entourage?

Did a few more things, went in to Font Book and ran a validation of all fonts.  Several (21) were shown to have a "problem" so I removed them from the computer but it didn't resolve my issue.  Additionally, I'm seeing other quirky things happening with Mail.app failing to stay connected to Exchange 2010 server and stopps pulling down email.  I thought maybe it was rules as I ran into this issue on Lion several months ago so I removed all rules (disabling them didn't seem to matter) and have also removed MailTags and MailActOn from Indev.  Still no resolution to the missing icons and this is really a problem for me.  I don't want to have to reinstall Mac but I guess if I have to, I have to.

  • HOW DO I RENDER A STILL IMAGE AND KEEP QUALITY

I'm still in search of help with why High Res. still pictures lose quality when I render.   The images are at 300dpi, roughly 1900x1200 (they vary in size).   I input them fine.  Then, when I go to put them on the timeline - I get a pop-up window asking me to "AutoFix" this clip?  When I say "yes" it drops down the quality and it becomes grainy.  If I say "no" the clip remains looking the same - great.
But - then when I go to "render" that clip, in the timeline - it drops down in quality and becomes grainy - AFTER I render it.
HOW DO I USE STILL IMAGES - AND KEEP THEM HIGH QUALITY WHEN I RENDER?
My Project Settings are; 1920/1080  ---  30fps DROP frame  (should it be Non-Drop?)  --  Capture is HDV and Video Rendering is only marked at "Optimize Stills"
I'm using Adobe Premiere Elements 11 on a Windows 8 PC
Any help would be greatly appreciated
    thanks

    joeyMPI
OK. Let us give this a try. If I go off course anywhere along the line, please let me know.
    1. Open Premiere Elements 11 on Windows 8 64 bit to the Expert workspace.
    A. Under Edit Menu/Preferences/General
Remove the check mark next to "Show all do not show again messages."
Set the "Timeline render quality (valid for HD projects)" = "High quality, Slow speed"
Leave a check mark next to Default Scale to Frame Size.
    B. Right Click the Edit area monitor, select Magnification and make sure it is = "Fit".
    C. Right Click the Edit area monitor, select Playback Quality and make sure it is = "Highest".
    D. Setting the Project Preset Manually to Get the Sharpest End Product Photo Display
Go to File Menu/New/Project and Change Settings
In Change Settings, change the project preset to
    NTSC
    DSLR
    1080p
    DSLR [email protected]
    Close out of there.
In the new project dialog that appears, make sure that you have a check mark next to
"Force Select Project Setting on this Project". Close out of there.
    E. The project preset that has been selected has a 16:9 aspect ratio, and it will direct the program to set
up a 16:9 space in the Edit area monitor for editing. So, best results are expected with photos with a 16:9 aspect ratio.
If an imported photo does not fill the Edit area monitor space, you can try to scale it (zoom in) just to the point of
getting rid of any black borders. A quick scale can be done by clicking on the monitor screen, and dragging on a handle
of the photo's bounding box which has appeared.
But, now for the moment of truth..
    a. You should not have seen any helpful Fix messages.
    b. If you render the Timeline content by clicking on the render button above the Timeline
what you see should look the same or better before and after the render.
Also keep in mind, that having to scale up too much can create pixelation.
300ppi or dpi has no significance in video. Pixel dimensions are the focus. And here, video is 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio. In
this specific case 16:9. It would be a good idea to plan ahead on the sizing of the photos beforehand. As far as I know the perk of enhanced
sharpness in the end product is associated with just the one project preset that I pointed to in the workflow.
But, right now, our target is on the maintaining the quality of the photos in the Edit area. And, I realize that you realize
that no matter how great the resolution of the imports, the imports will be reduced to the sizing characteristic of the export
    preset.
We will be watching for your results. Thank you for considering the suggestions.

  • PDFs cause crash     (Finder, Mail, Safari)

TrueType fonts (.ttf) used in InDesign documents can create PDFs that cause Mac OS X applications to crash.
It seems that Finder, Mail, Safari etc. can't render inline preview images and crash
Outline the fonts in your InDesign documents and that "should" fix it.

How do you "outline" fonts in docs you didn't create?

  • Automator, PDF to images... where'd they go?

I think I'm missing something... (I am in Lion, maybe its been fixed in MtL)
I want to use the Render PDF to Images action, make it into a service, then be able right click on a PDF to convert to PNG.
I see a few threads talking about a gap in the action: that it doesn't specify where the output file will go.
The threads talk about workarounds, but ...
isn't that odd, that Apple would leave the action unfinished like that?
They offer the option with other PDF actions, image actions.
    Why not this one?

    Hahahah. Thanks.
Well, it's good that it works now.
If you have any other projects with automator, there are some good sites you should check out too:
    http://automatorworld.com
    http://www.completedigitalphotography.com
    http://www.macworld.com
    http://www.automatedworkflows.com
The last link, I have found very helpful, they have a lot of 3rd party actions that do the most unbelievable things with Automator.
    Good luck man.

  • "View in Place" inline images and PDFs in Yosemite Mail

I'd like to have the "View in Place" option available for images and PDFs, but it appears to be missing in Yosemite Mail. It would be particularly helpful with this new Markup feature. Any ideas how I might do this?

When I drag a PDF or an image (TIFF, JPEG, etc.) into the body of an Apple Mail message, I see an icon of that file.
There used to be a contextual menu option to "View as Icon" or "View as Image" in previous iterations of Mail, but now with Yosemite, I am only able to send the message with the image or PDF file viewed as an icon. As a comparison, when Composing a message in the Gmail desktop web interface, you can click on the Insert Image Icon, and you are given the option to insert the image "Inline" or "As attachment." I like having both options and I wonder if there is a Terminal command or third-party solution to restore this functionality.

  • Mail with image and PDF not displaying correctly on Outlook

    Environment and problem
OS X Mountain Lion, Mail 6.1 (everything up to date)
Emails with mixed image and PDF attachments send from my MacBoox Pro are not being displayed correctly when received on Outlook. It is not an Outlook problem.
    Multiple inline images - ok
I compose an email, rich text format, insert severnal inline images, send to colleage on Windows 7 using Outlook, all received ok. He sees the message with inline images.
Multiple inline images and PDF - not ok
I compose a similar email with multiple inline images, but attach a PDF. This time all of the attachments (images and PDF) appear at the end of the message when viewed in Outlook.
    Gmail browser comparison
I repeat the above from a Gmail account via Safari and I can make an email with inline images and PDF attachments and it works.
Any thoughts, tips, bug reports, etc appreciated.

No - can't be an Apple fan and then critisise MS for being proprietry
My problem was solved by installing Attachment Tamer.
It could also have been solved by emailing from Gmail directly.
The guys I work with use Outlook and were suprised to see this behaviour.
It's only basic OS X email that has a problem.
I wholeheartedly agree that the standard for emails are not conducive for rich layout control.
But - when my email just has images I had no problems. Take for example the email notifications we're getting from this thread - there are images and layout etc and work fine.
The key feature from Attachment Tamer hints at the problem (and its solution):
    send images embedded in HTML layout and safely mix embedded images with other attachments;

  • [Automator] Render PDF Pages as Images problem

    Hi,
I'm using an Automator Action called "Render PDF Pages as Images". It is not working properly. I've also tried one called "Change Types if Images" with the same results. The problem is both of these actions will create an image, but they won't put it anywhere other than a temp directory. With the second action, if I do it on an image file like a jpg, it will convert the image and put it in the directory the file exist in. I have a bunch of PDFs that are really just scanned images that I need to convert to TIFF and I want to automate it. It is frustrating that the actions are not working as documented. Both are supposed to render the change on the existing file in the location it exists and neither is work that way when run against a PDF.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Christopher Stumpf wrote:
    It's really simple.
It's a service item and it contains just one of the actions I've already listed. They are supposed to change the existing file to the desired type, in place.
no, they are not supposed to do that. they don't say anything of the sort in their descriptions. moreover, this is completely impossible if a pdf file has several pages. I just tried it and it works just fine. I passed a multipage pdf to the action "render pdf pages as images" and it made a number of separate pdf files - one for each page, as it should according to the description. they are temp files, yes. so you just need to follow it by the action to copy (or move files) and then by "rename finder items".
    my workflow:
    1. get specified (or selected) finder items.
    2. render pdf pages as images.
    3. move finder items
    3. rename finder items.

  • Render PDF Pages As Images - File names are gibberish

I have a workflow that takes a folder of PDF's and converts them to JPG's.
The problem is that Automator is giving the converted files random gibberish filenames such as Kft56Fvg.jpeg and not the names of the original files.
    Anyone know what's going on?

At the bottom of the list of actions in Automator is an area with the description of the selected action in the listing (but not the workflow). If this description isn't visible, there is a button at the bottom of the window near the bottom left corner of the window for revealing the description.
If you need to see the description of an action that is in the workflow on the right side of the window, there is a button on the action itself at its bottom left that will reveal the description of the action. This is so you won't have to find it again in the listing just to review its description.
For you're immediate convenience and peace of mind, this is the description you'll find for "Render PDF Pages as Images":
    ---- Begin description ----
This action will render each page of the passed PDF files as images.
Note: As the names of the resulting images are randomly generated, this action is often followed by the Rename Finder Items > Make Sequential action.
    Input: PDF files
Options: Image format, color model, resolution, and compression
Result: (Image files) References to the rendered image files.
    ---- End description ----
Since a PDF can contain many pages, this action could produce many images from the same PDF. So, that could further complicate naming the new images when multiple PDFs are involved if you need special names.
