Render times of certain project slow down

Hi,
i have a certain tv-promo-project where i have to render several comps which all include the same amount of text and just a hand full of additional graphic elements, e.g. a lensflare and a glowing line which separats the text blocks.
The text of the specific promo-comps are read out of a "main text comp" by expressions. The expression is as follows:
txt = comp("Master Textkomposition").layer("Textebene").text.sourceText;
txt.split("\r")[0]
The rendertimes of the project are constantly slowing down as the render queue and the process goes on. The first comp takes about 8 Minutes to render (it is only 10 sec long) and the second already 20 min, where the third comp reaches like 2 hours of render time.
I also recognized that even the preview in the timeline is really slow, although the used effects are usually not that performance heavy.
My System specs:
After Effects CS6 11.0.4.2
Mac Pro 5,1
Processor       2 x 2,93 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon
RAM                24 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 ECC
Graphic          NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 2048 MB
Software         OS X 10.8.5 (12F45)
Drive c:           500 GB SSD (Apps & Disk Cache)
Drive d:           2 TB HDD (Project & Source Media)
Drive e:           1 TB HDD (Render & Media Cache)
Does anybody have a clue what this problem could be about?
Any help is appreciated
Cheers
paul

Thanks for the advice aka danke für den Tipp!
I'll give it a try!

  • Long project slowing down

    hi everyone
i need some advice cuz i just screwed stuff up.
i am working on a doc film. i have edited about 30 mins so far on timeline. lots of overlays/trans/music/some effects- i am on a pwr mac g5/ have all files on an external lacie drive with 115 gigs free/ for some reason i have fce3 doc folder on both internal and external drive but looks like all the project files except render files are going on external drive folder for fce3. my computer is starting to move really slow, especially fce. Rendering is taking forever all of a sudden. I deleted the render files like an idiot, so now i have to re-render everything and keep getting an "operation error" box. i think thats cuz its timing out, not sure. but real question is --what should i do? i have plenty of space left on the drives-why is it slowing down so?
    any advice is appreciated
    thx
    jim

The project file should be on the internal system drive of the computer. The media and the render files should be on the media drive. Move the project files there. Trash prefs and repair permissions. Run Disk Warrior on your drives. Open a previous project from the autosave vault and put it on the system drive and see if it runs properly.

  • Edge project slowing down

    Hey there,
I've been recreating a Flash project in Edge (so that it can run on mobile devices). It's a "pre-lab" for students here at our university, where the student can go through a chemistry lab before actually doing the real world lab.
I've laid it out roughly from beginging to end, but when I run it on different browsers on a mac, pc or iPad2 the button clicks become slower and slower in response (as if it's running out memory) halfway through the prelab.
I've stripped back all the graphics off the timeline except for the important buttons and it still does the same thing. Do I need to delete all non-related images and symbols out of the Assets window? Or is it because I've been using transparent png's and should be using SVG's (but that doesnt answer why it's still slow when I strip back the project).
The only errors I'm getting in Chrome's Console is this:
event.returnValue is deprecated. Please use the standard event.preventDefault() instead.
Javascript error in event handler! Event Type = timeline edge.2.0.1.min.js:162
Javascript error in event handler! Event Type = timeline edge.2.0.1.min.js:162
Javascript error in event handler! Event Type = timeline edge.2.0.1.min.js:162
Would this be why it's slowing down?
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi elainefinnell,
i'd say there would be around 50 (~200x200) transparent png's like so (where the character, objects like coat, goggles, bottles, etc are seperate symbols)...
with a zoom into the objects (thus the objects had to be at a higher dpi)
and a animated book opening that fills most of the screen
but then I stripped all the graphics out except the next and back buttons and it was still slowing down
And should I be using SVG's anyhow (especially if it's very flat colour artwork)?

  • Time-Capsule Network Speed slows down

The TC will work fine for about a week and then inexplicably begins to communicate at a very slow rate over the wireless network. If I cycle power on the TC,, it will resume normal performance for about a week, and then slow down again.
I've taken to monitoring the TC wireless speed using the airport utility. My airport devices will operate normally at about 54 Mbps and my PC clients at about 113 Mbps (I have Netgear N cards in the PCs that operate at about 108 Mbps). When the performance drops, my Mac devices will drop to around 5Mbps and the PCs will drop to 54 Mbps. Performance will continue to degrade until everything is running at 1 to 5 Mbps. I reboot the TC and everything returns to normal for another week.
Any thoughts as to what could be causing this?

Hi and welcome to the forums.
I'm not a wireless expert, but after having wireless networks at home for more than 5 years with Apple stuffI made some observations.
First, there might be issues with other networks in your neighbourhood. Many posts suggest that there should be at least 5 channels between wireless networks, e.g. 1 - 6 - 11. Set it with AirPort Utility.
Second, something called "noise" from other electronic equipment as microwave ovens and machinery.
Thirdly, having different types of equipment's and networks and speeds mixed together might not make the best network. We have the Time Machine set as working in the 5Ghz area with only the "n" protocol, while another device from the Internet Service Provider broadcasts in the slower bandwidth. In this way the slower wireless computers are running on their own net.
Fourthly, reception of the wireless network can be an issue. One older PC has been provided with an extra antenna, and that helped a lot with an nearly 100% increase in speed for that machine.

  • Clean installed Lion 3 times, still has incredible slow down.

I'm no stranger to this kind of stuff, so I've really never had any purpose to post here. I've always figured it out. So when I say I'm stumped, please know I mean it.
I recently purchased an OCZ Solid 3 120GB SSD and decided to install Lion and do it by way of a clean install. Everything went fine until I actually started to use it. I let it index, knowing that slows things down incredibly. But even when that was done I still would get the beach ball frequently and things would just stop until it was done spinning.
I've verified permissions, repaired them even though it came up with no errors. I started over a total of three times so far. I've searched the forums and google high and low. Still find nothing concerning my issue. I have a late 2008 unibody Macbook Pro with a 2.8Ghz Core 2 Duo and 4Gbs of RAM, so I know I'm good on the hardware front.
Any suggestions would be very helpful. Thanks in advance!

  • Project slowing down

I am working on an HDV project with about 6 sequences most are short 2 to 30 minutes, 2 of them are much long 45 and 50 minutes with at least 100 small to large motion clips. I am working on a drive that only has firewire 400, I recommended that my client get a firewire 800 but the didn't. Now when we work in the 45 minute, it takes a lot longer for the clips to load in when we move to different parts of the sequence. There also seems to be a lot more problems requiring me to either restart FCP or the computer itself. Is this because we need a firewire 800 drive or is their something else we can do.
    Thank you
    Vince

  • Time Capsule Wi-Fi slows down over time

    Hi,
My Time Capsule 2 TB (running firmware 7.4.2, which is the latest version for my model Time Capsule) has an annoying habit of running slower and slower over time, eventually requiring a restart...
It becomes worse and worse gradually. At some point, transfer rates get very slow, websites take ages to load, connections even start to drop... and that's when people connected to my network start asking: "What the %($) is going on?". I then restart the Time Capsule, and everything is back to normal (for a while).
This repeats about once every month. I'm not satisfied with one month of continuous uptime on a Wi-Fi base station... I'm used to such devices running for a year or two before they may eventually require a reboot.
Has anyone else had this problem? Should I try to exchange the Time Capsule for the new model (running firmware 7.5.1)? It seems like Apple isn't planning to release a firmware update for the older model, even though it's still under warranty and obviously has a few glitches...
    Tim

I've got this exact same problem with the older Time Capsule. Mine drops to around 10% of the original speed over time. Mine requires a reboot too.
I was thinking of buying a new one, thanks for saving my money.

  • Will blocking certain cookies slow down pages from loading?

Recently I have been experiencing some weird lag in loading pages. If I go to a new page - the site has a weird lag in showing the page. The bar in the bottom right stalls at 40 - 50%. This happens for up to a minute or two. Then everything moves forward.
I have scanned for spyware. Ran my troubling shooting software like Onyx. Disabled my add-ons. All of this has helped a bit. But it is still kind of happening.
The only other change I have made is that I have been adding to my blocked cookies list. I have been adding web addresses that have been coming up in my scan as tracking cookies.
Is it possible that blocking cookies from loading is causing a lag in loading pages?
Or do I need to be looking for something else?

  • Excel slows down when network drive is mapped

Since a couple of months we are experiencing strange behaviour of excel (2011) on Lion 10.7.5
Excel versions from 14.3.1. to 14.3.4 all the same behaviour.
    Symptom 1)
When I connect the Time Capsule drive , Excel slows down by factor 100 when entering text. Needs up to 2 seconds to react on a key stroke.
When I disconnect the handle, excel works fast again.
    (repeatable, reproducible)
    Symptom 2)
on the network drive, always at the same place, a file named ~abcde.xls... occurs (exact name forgotten, but it is a recent file name
    preceded with a tilde sign)
deleting of the file does not affect speed
the file reappears occasionally (TC backup is switched off!)
    Where is the ghost??? :-D
    maybe these symptoms are uncorrelated.
Why the heck does Excel slow down when I open the network drive??
Why does this happen on 10.7.5 and not on 10.6.8?
    Anyone any idea?
    thanks,
    Stefan

Thanks. Away on holiday right now, but will do it as soon as I get back next week.
Out of curiosity, the external drive works fine when connected directly via USB to the laptop. I took that to mean that the problem wasn't to do with the drive, but probably the network. Is it possible there could be a problem with the drive which only shows up when it's used as a network drive?

I install boot camp after I reinstall my Mac OS. My Mac OS and Windows XP seem to works really fine but 2 weeks later my Mac OS seem to works really slow!:( It took me around 5-10 minutes to boot up until I see all my dock, icons, folders, and time. And also slow down my other software, it took me around 30-40minutes to open a software such as: Google chrome, Safari, uTorrent...
This happend many times already in the past. I reinstall both my Windows and Mac 3-4 times. I still face the same problem. If I'm using only Mac this problem will not comes up. If I'm using both Mac and Windows, this problem will occur.
Any other software require to solve this problem? or Mac hardware problems?

  • Unusual render times

Hello, I seem to be experiencing weird, fluctuating render times with my projects. Some 10+ minute projects render in 20 minutes or so, others like the one below take far too long for what they are.
    I am running a Macbook Pro, 2.5ghz Intel Core i7, 8GB 1333 Mhz DDR3 ram, and an AMD Radeon HD 6770M 1GB.
Here is a current project I am working on at the moment - please excuse the blurred sections, this is an internal business video and I am required to do this for security.
The maximum filesize will only be est. 134mb, the length of the video is 3 and a half minutes, and I am only rendering at 720p with 90 second keyframes. When I render this file it takes upwards of 2 hours; sometimes longer.
The source files are 1920x1080 and 1440x1080, and I have 4-5 nested sequences approx 10-20 seconds long each with warp stabilizer applied to them.
I also have fast color corrector applied to all clips. I usually have a VBR of min-4 max-6 but attempted to change it to CBR to see if that decreased rendering time; it didn't.
I've also tried optimizing the memory for both rendering and memory in the preferences window, but I see no difference.
Can you spot anything that might be causing this render to take so long?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Brendan

Thanks for the speedy reply, shootemz. I had no control over the source footage unfortunately and the video needs to be uploaded to a private Youtube channel, so I just selected the Youtube preset from the Export Settings section - and Youtube seems to have a sad every time I try to upload anything that isn't 29.97fps so that's the one I chose.
So all of the things you mentioned increase the encoding time? I didn't know that! I am new to this type of export. It's always been very straight forward in my past jobs. I guess I will play around with the settings and see if I can keep them as close to the source as possible. Thanks for the reply! If anyone else has any other suggestions I would love to hear them also.

  • Adding Masks Slows down render times massively

Adding any sort of vignettes/mask when using DL in Premiere CC creates massive render times in premiere. On a two minute promo it takes 15 minues to render what took 4 minutes without Masks.
Anyone know how to improve this? In the middle of a production, and this alone makes me want to use Resolve.

I should add that I'm Exporting to Media Encoder.
Leaving Renderer to CUDA or CL seems to be the culprit.
Setting ME to 'Software only' seems to improve render times.

  • Slow render times with large jpegs - complete system lag

In a project i'm working on I have two large jpegs with a small zoom scaling effect. Going from 100 to 103 percent.
I've noticed that both Adobe Media Encoder and Premiere Pro experience a heavy slow down in render time as soon as the jpegs have to be rendered.
Not only does the render speed almost come to a halt, the complete system lags very heavy, even the mouse cursor won't respond well.
This happens when i have GPU acceleration enabled and when i do a 2 pass H264 encoding.
When I have the GPU acceleration disabled the render goes very smooth, and doesn't seem to slow down...
The jpeg is 4023  x 2677, and 6,97 MB large.
Scaling the jpeg down to about 1920x1080 in Photoshop and put that one in the timeline made the render go a lot faster.
I understand that a large picture takes a bit more time to be rendered, but we're talking about a 10minute render whit the large jpeg file and  a 2 minute render with the jpeg resized.
The total time of the two jpegs in the video is 5 seconds in a 3 minutes video.
So, that made me think that the render times are exponentially long.
In the timeline everything runs really smooth.
Is this considered normal, I can't remember having such big differences in CS5. It's not a major thing, but I wanted to share anyway.
    My system:
    Premiere Pro CC (latest)
    i7 4930K
    32 GB RAM
    2xGTX480
Footage and project on a Raid0 disk
    Previews/Cache on a Raid0 disk
    System and Premiere on SSD
Render to a single 7200 rpm drive.

  • Render time Issues with 5.0 project in CC 12.1

This is actually a copy of a post I had in a different discussion entitled "render time" but this now
I did some extensive testing to try and see why my render times in CC were so much slower that 5.5 and I found some very interesting results.
The original project was created in 5.0 and opened in 5.5 and rendered, it contained video footage and graphics. When it was render in 5.5 it rendered in 4:27. When I opened it in 12.1 and rendered it was 18:00. I then started turning off layers and my render times shot up. basically layer 12 had two animated masks on colored solid. With this off it took 8:30
I then imported the project into 12.1 and saved it, reopened it and with layer 12 off it took 5:11. So importing and saving the project made a difference. Now I recreated layer 12 in 12.1 from scratch and turned it on and my rendered time was 6:50.
So there is something going on with projects being converted from earlier versions - Now to really test this theory I would need to recreate the project from scratch and compare to the 5.5 times.
To further test this we did the same sort of testing with a different comp and found similar results - the render times were different if it was imported vs. just opened. But the big thing we found with this comp was a layer where we were moving large stills with some z space. It looks like the 3d from 5.0 was causing a major slow down in CC on layers that has AE 3d applied.
I think the major take away is if your comp was created in 5.0 and you need to modify it, then make changes in 5.5 or 5.0 or be prepared to recreate any layers with more than simple key frames.
Just to also answer some other questions - in rendering to prores vs. animation or dvcprohd the times were almost the same. The animation was slightly longer but that makes sense cause the file was much bigger.
I also found that with 32 gigs of ram my magic number was 11 reserved for other apps ...
Hope someone can jump in and add some light to this
This was all done on a 2010 mac pro 2.66 w 12 cores 36 megs ram running 10.8.4 - I have 5.5 and CC and the 12. 1 updates are installed and the video card is an NVidia 575. Mulit threading was on and in 5.5 - 9 Megs is reserved and in 12.1 - 10 is reserved

I've experienced similar problem with Java Web Start twice.
Also using JRE version 1.5.0_06 Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM and Browser Internet Explorer 6.0.2800.1106 on Windows XP (Problem was the same with Java 1.4.2)
My application was signed and launched via JNLP. The security warning popup was shown in the windows taskbar, but it was hidden. Using maximize in the taskmanager, I was able to see the dialog but it was blank. The problem was persistent, although I did not try as many times as 20-30 :-)
On both occations the problem occured on multi (3) screen systems, which I suspected to be the problem (Java has historically had some issues regarding multi screen systems), but now I'm not so sure.
Did you find a solution / cause?
