Rendering HD footage in the timeline

I'm editing some TV spots shot on a Panosonic HD Varicam in 720p24. I selected the "Easy Setup" for both 720p30 and 720p24, but when i drag footage to the timeline, it has to be rendered. I remember this happening to me before, but I forget how I fixed it. It might have been something to do with the pulldown. However that was in 4.5 and in FCP 5 I can't find any pulldown options. No matter what combination's of capture/sequence/easy setup options I try, I still have to render all footage in the timeline. Any suggestions?
Thanks

I've sort of figured it out but am still a little confused.
The EASY SETUP I used was 720p30. Therefore the capture frame rate was 30, the sequence frame rate was 30, the compressor was DVCPRO HD 720p60, and the playback output video fram rate was 60. Therefore all the default EASY SETUP 730p30 settings were in order. Then I noticed in the Browser window the "Vid Rate" for my captured video was 59.94, even though I had used EASY SETUP 740p30. When I changed the sequence frame rate to 59.94, voila no rendering needed. However I can't play more than a few seconds without getting the Dropped Frames warning.
So why when I selected EASY SETUP 720p30 did it capture as 59.94 (720p60?)
Why am I getting the dropped frames if it is the correct frame rate.
I know the camera might be involved. It's one of those Panasonic $75000 Varicams but the camera operator said the video was shot in 720p24 and the producer told me to cut in 720p30.
Any info?
Cheers

    Exactly WHAT did you import?
Exactly what is INSIDE the video you are editing?

  • MOV and AVI Files - Rendering Every Clip In The Timeline

This is just a quick query really. When I try and add certain .mov and .avi footage into final cut express 3.5, the timeline requires the clips to be rendered fully. It also requires a render every time you move the clip or add a transition etc.
If for example I wanted to make a fan film using footage from another source, how would I go about this - it seems very time consuming considering every single shot needs to be fully rendered every time I move it / edit it.

FCE is a resolution specific editing application. It edits DV or HD using the Apple Intermediate Codec. Anything else needs to be converted to one of these formats. It's usually best to convert your media to the correct format before bringing it into FCE.

  • Why do i always have to render even if only move the footage in the timelin

I just edited something in fcp and this wasn't happening, how come it is now.. must be a setting? Thanks!

Rendering is required usually when applying effects or when the timeline codec / dimension differs from the clip settings. What are yours?

  • Just wondering whether rendering is required for unedited AVI on the Timeline?

I just bought Premiere Elements 11.0. I was currently using Premiere Elements 3.02. In 3.02 When importing a standard AVI File to the timeline, only transitions and Titles needed rendering before exporting to DvD. However, I noticed when doing the same project in 11.0, There is no Red Lines above the titles or Transitions for it to be rendered. When I cliked on Render Project, it seemed it was rendering the entire AVI file and it took a very long time. Is this Normal for 11.0? or is there a Patch I need?

Just to add a little bit more to the story of "rendering the Premiere Elements Timeline content".
Given that rendering the Timeline content is for previewing purposes (to get the best possible preview of your Timeline content when it plays back in the Edit Mode monitor. You can do that in 3 ways in Premiere Elements 11
    a. Pressing the Enter Key of the computer main keyboard
    b. Expert workspace, Timeline Menu at top of workspace/Render Work Area
    or
    c. The Render tab to the right above the Timeline
You do not have to do this type of rendering for the program to allow you to move forward in the program. But, it is your window of opportunity to catch a problem sooner than later.
But, there are 3 indicators used by the program to tell you whether or not it feels that you have the best possible preview.
    a. orange line (red line used in versions earlier than 11) OVER the Timeline content is program indicator for rendering recommendation
    b. no colored line OVER the Timeline content and green line OVER the Timeline content are program indicators for "you have the best possible preview".
    c. waving your mouse cursor over the Render button above the Expert workspace Timeline results in a pop up recommending rendering if the program decides you are not getting the best possible preview.
The no colored line comes into this when you import a file for the first time to the Timeline and it is a native format. But once you edit this file, orange line with all its implications - render. After this render, that file will then only use the orange/green indicators and not the no colored line for it.
As always, rendering is most appropriate for transitions, effects, titles, and non native formats.
Remember to keep watch for pile ups of the preview files on the hard drive....if you have a SD project, the previews (for photos or video) are DV.AVI 720 x 480 @ 29.97 interlaced frames per second and, for HD project (for photos and video), they are MPEG2.mpeg. 960 x 540 @ 29.97 interlaced frames per second, Upper Field First accompanied by some other files such as .xmp.
And, the program does help out...if you want to render and the program decides you have the best possible preview, then all you will get from trying to initiate Timeline rendering is playback of the Timeline with no rendering.
Then there is the old story of saving/closing a project with a rendered Timeline only to reopen the project and find an orange/red line over the  content. Does not happen too often lately, but it can be a puzzlement. More on that other time if necessary.

  • Mixing 16:9 Anamorphic and 4:3 footage in the same sequence

I have a sequence that combines 16:9 anamorphic footage with some older footage shot in 4:3. In other sequences that use the 16:9 footage, it looks fine and I was able simply set the properties on the sequence to render the 16:9 correctly. However, in the mixed sequence, the canvas is defaulting to a 4:3 ratio and then letterboxing the 16:9 footage. I'd prefer to keep the canvas at 16:9 and then crop then resize the 4:3.
How does one change the canvas aspect ratio? Setting the sequence properties to anamorphic has no effect nor does changing the rendering preset.
I also tried creating a new sequence, but if I copy in any of the 16:9 segments from the mixed sequence (leaving out the 4:3 bits), the canvas changes to 4:3 again. It's as if somehow the 4:3 canvas size is now associated with the 16:9 material from the mixed sequence.
I apologize in advance if there is an obvious answer to this.
    Thanks,
    Nathan

Create a new sequence. Then drop a 16/9 clip from the browser, into the timeline. Final cut will ask you if you want to make the timeline the same as the footage. Say yes. Then you'll have a 16/9 sequence. You can then copy and paste the other footage from the timeline you already have, but you'll probably have to resize everything.

  • Is there a way to see all my compound clips created on the timeline, in the browser as an accessible thumbnail list....?

I am facing a problem that
due to big footage I first extracted the seemingly fine clips in chunks in one timeline in various layers which is still enormous for my RAM
now I have to take out smaller and more appropriate bits from this timeline
I have opened another timeline where I just copy paste the best shots from my previous enormous timeline and this works fine due to less media for 6gb RAM mac pro
but it is really tedious to go back and forth to copy paste
it would be so wonderful if I could extract those bits from the clips just like we do with any other new footage from the browser window with all the clips visible
I think one way can be to export these compound clips seperately and import them as events into the browser but that would be a generation loss
is there any other way.....? to view these compound clips infront of my eyes all at once or keeping all that footage on the timeline besides the finalising layer is the only option...?
I am facing this rare problem because I'm editing a music video and no shot is more than 2 seconds and that too from several groups of footage that has to be mixed.....so all the data has to be visible to decide if a bit of guitar piece would look good here or drums or close up or long shot.....so everything has to be seen....can you suggest me a smarter workaround please ?

    Thank you.Ok say for e.g.
500 video files imported in fcpx
800 clips extracted from these obviously on the timeline and joined/compounded according to their content in say 15 layers according to 15 instruments used ,so now just to see the entire usable footage ....
now one 7 minute song sequence has to be made where bits would be simultaneously taken from these 15 layers as all instruments are playing simultaneously
these shots are not more than 2 secs each according to the beat........
when I try to work with these 15 layers as well as the Final primary layer that I'm making in the same timeline my fcpx becomes slow
but when I drag individual layer to individual timelines it is fine so that is the only option
but now for every 2 second bit I have to go back to the 15 layered timeline and find one single suitable shot
So I was wondering is there a way to be able to see these layers and clips on the timeline in the browser in a systematic fashion like the way we get with keywords  ?
and keywords can only be used in the imported clips already in the browser ,and not after we drag it on the timeline.....
Till now I think exporting and importing back is the only option ...but is there another work around ?

  • How to recapture from the timeline?

I had a hard drive crash with 6 hours of footage on it. I need to re-capture the footage from the timeline. The project is only 2 min long but when I try and re-capture FCP wants to digitize all 6 hours of footage. How can I make it only capture what is in the timeline and not entire tapes?

I media managed the project using copy which kept all of the render files. Then I media managed the project as offline. I'm recapturing the segments that were lost with the offline and copy/pasting them into the copied sequence. Seems to be working. I just need to get 2 Betas out and then I can ditch the entire project!

  • Sperating clips in the timeline

Hi, My goal is to drop a 25 min tape into the timeline and create new clips to edit. Is there a way to do this withought using the knife tool? Is there a way to drop the footage into the timeline and have it create new clips everytime the camera records, stops, records again etc? Thanks for you help! Eric

David - Thank you! I was looking in the wrong part of the manual and putting in the wrong keywords in the search. Have a good day - Eric

  • How to edit footage in the same sequence from two different cameras:  1) Standard Def 4:3 aspect ratio, and 2) Standard Def shot 16:9, anamorphic?

What can I say.  We blew the shoot.  His high-end Sony camera - std def at 4:3 aspect ratio.
My camera - the little Panasonic DVX100, set to anamorphic, so 16:9 aspect ratio.
I have to edit this footage together in the same sequence.  Obviously, I'm getting prompts to change the sequence settings every time I try to move footage onto the timeline.
Alternatively, would someone just thunk me in the head.
I'm sad about this.  I can't believe it happened.

What is the ouput - standard 4:3 DV?
If so, put a clip of the 4:3 material into a timeline and accept the offer to conform the timeline to that material. Then, any of the 16:9 material will be part of that settings - however - you will want to go into the DISTORT settings in the Viewer to alter the material so that the image extends beyond the sides (aka a center cut). It has been a long time since I've done this but I remember the number is something like 33 (or -33).

  • Strange audio problem in the timeline

I'm editing footage of a show taken from my local theater.. and for some reason when i play footage in the timeline, instead of just hearing the audio for that clip, i can also hear audio that does NOT belong to that clip! I don't understand how or why, as there is nothing else in the timeline which could do this.
    Anyone know whats going on?
    Thanks

The other sounds are audio from a completely different part of the show.. idk.. the shoot went fine, and when i play the clips when they are in the project list they sound fine.
I readded the clip to the timeline.. and its fine now..

  • Cannot get my tape based media to the timeline in Premiere Pro CC

Cannot get my tape based media to the timeline in Premiere Pro CC, I have eqrlier in my edit, but now I get the hand dragging it with the circle and slash on it . THis will not let the media download to the timeline anymore. What happened.... DId I hit a button and/or cause it to be locked out from loading media intot he timeline. My digital basde media loads fine.

Here is more information: I use Premiere PRo CC 7 and the taped based media in the bins are from a Canon HV30 taped based catured to PP directly in a MPEG format. I have already used some edits from this media as well as my captures from digital, which isnt causing any problems. When I mark the taped based media in the source window and attempt to drag it into the timeline the hand gets a circle and slash line on it and will not let me place it into the timeline. Yet I can still load my digital stuff into the timeline and edit normally. I need some footaghe from the tapes but cannot get it into the timeline from the source monitor even after updating, shutting down and reopening. No avail still when trying to drag the hand with the circle slash still exist not allowing it into the timeline. Previous footage on the timeline works no problem. This started yesterday.

  • Why do I loose rendered footage from my timeline in Premiere Elements 10, after saving my project !

Why do I loose rendered footage from my timeline in Premiere Elements 10, after saving my project on exit! When I reopen the project, the timeline needs rendering again! Can anyone help me with this problem, it's driving me mad!
Is there a fix, or is it a problem with settings in the program! Any help, greatly appreciated! Mike's Media.

    Mike,
    Welcome to the forum.
Along with the answers to Steve's questions, please tell us about your computer's I/O sub-system, i.e. your computer's HDD's, and especially where the Project, the media and the PrE Scratch Disks are stored. For instance, if everything is on C:\, or perhaps the Project, media and Scratch Disks are all on an external USB 2.0 HDD.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
