Reorganization of the database (defragmentation of tables).

Hi All ,
Can anyone tell me how much approximate time do we require for reorganization of the database(defragmentation of tables) .
DB size is 300Gb . I think there is a package called dbms_redefinition for this job? Correct me if i am wrong
Os version : AIX 5L Databse : 11g
Our client want to carry out this task on weekend and they need approx time window require to do this.
Thanks in advance

You're on 11g, so you're presumably using locally managed tablespaces (LMTs). If so, that makes it practically impossible to have "fragmentation" in tables, at least for any practical definition of "fragmentation". So my first response would be 0 time, the tables don't need to be defragmented.
If you plan on using the DBMS_REDEFINITION package, be aware that you'll need enough space for another copy of each table (i.e. potentially another 300 GB of disk space if you plan on running in parallel).

  • Alerting about new records in to the database (in perticular table).

    Dear membsers,
    Alerting about new records in to the database (in perticular table).
    i have a sample application like this.
    A form based on purchase_requisitions, the data being entered from a network computer by a user with datanetry privileges. let's say the columns are
    req_id,req_date,red-from_dept,req_from_emp,req_item_req_qty,req_status. (initially by default req_status is 'NEW').
    next..
    i have a form based on Pending_requisitions_view for the managers who approves the requisitions, the columns are just req_date,req_from_dept,req_from_emp. all the pending requisitions will come here every 5 minitues it gets refreshed by a timer. and it is a multi record block. from here the manager selects the record and he changes the status to APPROVED or DENIED. this is common scenario.
    here is the main problem, the manager has to keep open his form all the time, or if he is working on any other things/forms, it is not possible for him to see requisiotns unless he has to open that form and timer re-freshes the records then only he can see. and again when the application in minimised state we cant see any updates/new entries into requissitions.
    im trying to make a full pledges online system. im using Oracle 8i,forms 6i under win 2000.
    is there any possibility if there is any new records gets into that table we can have alerts like Yahoo messenger it changes color to Blue when it gets new message if it is minimised state.
    Please im keen to get this type of environment.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    i tested like this,
    create a table-1 with tow coumns
    table-2 clone to table-1, on table-1 i put on-insert trigger insert into table-2. so far it is good, table-2 is getting values.
    on table-2 i wrote a database trigger like this
    CREATE.. ON INSERT on each row..
    begin
    IF INSERTING THEN
    raise_application_error;
    END IF;
    end;
    now the data not at all getting inserted into any table raising_application_error, so i could not proceed into further..
    please advise me..

  • Problem with displaying records from the database in a table ui element

    Hi,
    Iam creating an application which retrieves data from an oracle database. Iam able to connect to the database and retrieve the data in a result set. Then I try to set these values in a context node as follows,
    while (resultSet.next()) {
    String name = result.getString(1);
    String EmpId = result.getString(2);
    IEmpNode node = wdContext.nodeEmp();
    IEmpElement el = node.createEmpElement();
    el.setName(name);
    el.setEmpId(EmpId);
    node.addElement(el);
    where the context structure is emp(node)
                                   ---name(attribute)
                                   ---empId(attribute)
    Then I have bound the node emp to a table ui element.If I try to deploy this it comes up with Internal Server error.
    But if try this way, without creating a node, only with attributes name and empId,
    wdContext.currentContextElement.setName(name);
    wdContext.currentContextElement.setEmpId(EmpId);
    and binding the attributes to inputfields in the view, Iam able to see the last record in the database table.
    So where am I going wrong while using the table ui element?
    Regards,
    Rachel

    Hi
    Try this
    //Create the node in outer of while loop and bind to Table UIElement
    IEmpNode node = wdContext.nodeEmp();
    while (resultSet.next()) {
    String name = result.getString(1);
    String EmpId = result.getString(2);
    IEmpElement el = wdContext.createEmpElement();
    el.setName(name);
    el.setEmpId(EmpId);
    node.addElement(el);
    Kind Regards

  • Show results from the database to html tables?

    Hi,
    I am a PHP programmer and did a successful CMS program for a company. Now I have another project which is a web based system.
    I basically know how to do it and finish it in PHP.. but I am trying to do it using J2EE.. I am trying to learn J2EE now since I have been programming
    on J2SE for quite sometime..
    I am trying to show the results from a MySQL database on a table on J2EE but I am having hard time doing that. I am trying to research online and reading books but with no luck I can't find any resources on how to do that..If you guys can lead me into a resource where I can read how to do it? or just give any ideas on how to do it correctly I'll try to read and learn I will very much appreciate it.. here's my coding please look at it. Thank you very much
    I want to make it like this in a html table:
    userid username activated task
    1 alvin y delete(this will be a link to delete the user)
    Right now this is what I was able to do so far:
    Userid username activated task
    1
    alvin
    y
    Here are my codes... I am not even sure if I am doing it in the correct way...

    I suggest:
    1: you use this:
    e.printStackTrace()
    instead of this:
    System.out.print(e);
    so it will tell you what line it crashed on.
    2: In the code below,here is how you mix coding html tags and java scriptlets
    (you should never have to use out.print()):. In a later project, you can learn how to use JSTL
    instead of java scriplets (I suggest using java scriptlets for now until you have more JSP experience).
    FROM:
    <html>
    <%
    //some java code goes here
    out.print("<th>");
    //some more java code goes here
    out.print("<tr>");
    %>
    TO:
    <html>
    <% //some java code goes here%>
    <th>
    <%//some more java code goes here%>
    <tr>
    3: Put a lot of System.println() statements in your *.java classes to verify what its doing (you can learn how to use a debugger later).
    4: I highly recommend reading a book on JSP/servlets cover to cover.
    Here's a simple MVC design approach I previously posted:

  • Number of transaction that is run on the database,on spicific table

    i want to know how could i have a statistics of number of transaction that is run on database,on spicific table.

    If your database is running in archive log mode, then you could do the log mining for the given period of time to find out the number of operations against a given table.

  • Filter API will hit the database if not found in Cache???

    I wrote a sample program using Filter API i.e. LikeFilter, EqualsFilter which will query the cache (i.e. Map in memory) based on the criteria. But what if it doesn't found the entries in Cache . Will it then query the database with similar criteria.
    I don't think so ... Please correct me if i am wrong.
    I need to implement Pre-loading the cache and the link http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14526_01/coh.350/e14509/preloadcache.htm#CACCFCFJ
    use the Filter API. I am not sure if i can rely on pre-loading the cache from database.
    Any sample example preloading the data from database into cache will be greatly appreciated
    Regards,
    Bansi

    Then you won't need the Invokable code (anyway its owned by my employer ;-)
    All you need to do is write a simple program something like this :
    1. Query everything from the database "select * from table"
    2. Iterate through the ResultSet converting them all into objects
    3. Cache.put() these objects into Coherence.
    Now some optimisations. Re :
    1. You have a single query going to the database and will be connecting to a single cluster member. You could divide the query up by some logical division (eg. Customer / Date etc.) and then have many clients putting in concurrently, but it raises the complexity.
    2. It is also possible to store List tuples in Coherence, I once worked on a very nice project along those lines.
    3. Cache.putAll() is much faster than put() and you should batch these into sizes of 1000 for maximum performance.
    However, I would ignore these optimisations for now (tho 3. is the most useful).
    You will have to manually kick off this process when you restart your cluster (or put it in your startup script). People generally write a cluster restart script. Tho JavaServiceWrapper is very nice for restarting nodes that run out of memory. When you get really complicated you can use something like FabricServer to dynamically control your cluster, but lets get the basics working now.
    Best, Andrew.

  • Database feature Derived Table nad performance

    WE recently migrated our Data warehouse from DB2 to Oracle Exadata. Since the migration, i have noticed that some of the reports have becone extremely slow. e.g the report was runnign for 7 secs before is now running for over 6 minutes. In the database feature tab of the physical layer for the database connection, I have the database feature Derived Table turned on. If I turn this setting off, the same report runs in 3 secs. The Derived Table is supposed to help with the performance of the reports. but in this case it seems like it is hurting the performance than helping.
    Should this setting be turned off? What are the side effects of turning this off? We can not do a full testing by changing this setting so i want to reach out to someone who had run into similar issues and what they did to remedy.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks!

    So the answer is "yes" but not quite in the way you might expect.
    You have created the object where you can "borrow" the LOV for your derived table prompt. What you need to do is this. First, you need to create another object in your universe (I put it in the same class as the "code" object) that contains your object description. Then do this:
    1. Double-click on the code object
    2. Select the properties tab
    3. Click on the Edit button. This does not edit the object definition itself, it edits the LOV definition.
    4. On the query panel, add the Description object created earlier. Make sure it is the second object in the query panel.
    5. You can opt to sort either by code or description, whichever makes sense to your users
    6. Click "OK" to save the query definition, or click "Run" if you want to populate the LOV with values.
    7. Make sure you click "Export with Universe" on the properties tab once you have customized the LOV, else your computer is the only one that will include the new LOV definition
    8. The Hierarchical Display box may also be checked; for this case you have a code + description which are not hierarchical, so clear that box
    That's it. When you export your universe, the LOV will go with it. When someone asks for a list of values for the code, the list will show both codes and descriptions, but only the code will be selected.
    You do not need to make any changes to your current derived table prompt once the LOV has been customized.

  • New User Database schema and table name

    When i create a new user in Oracle Webcenter Spaces 11g, I am not able to get the name of the database schema and table, where it is stored. Any insight on this will be very helpful.

    WebCenter (and WebCenter spaces) uses an 'identity store' instead of database schema for storing user information - in an 'out of the box' installation, users are maintained through an embedded WebLogic LDAP store.
    See the Oracle Fusion Middleware Administrator's Guide for Oracle WebCenter, p. 34-2.
    At the end of section 34.4.1:
    WebCenter Spaces supports self-registration. When new WebCenter users
    self-register, they create their own login and password and a new user account is
    created in the identity store. See also, Section 34.4, "Allowing Self-Registration".

  • SQLITE database has no tables on device?

    Hello -
    When I try to run my app on my iPhone, the sqlite database is found, etc., HOWEVER, when I query it, it says the table doesn't exist. In fact none of the tables do.
    Do I have to do something special to get the database and its tables over to the phone itself?
    Thanks

    Is the database that's part of the application bundle populated, or is it only the database that was created in the simulators Documents folder that is populated?

  • Ms SqlServer connection: where is the database?

    I'm connecting to MS SQL 2000 with a user that is owner of the database i want to convert into oracle. The connection is OK, but when i connect i cannot see the database and its tables. The same if i connect with user "sa".
    Can anybody help me?

    Hi,
    I'm not sure where the problem is, I think it is more how SQL Server is implemented, whenever we look for tables they always appear under the 'dbo' schema regardless of who created them. All that JDeveloper does is query the Database metadata.

  • After REFRESH the cached object is not consistent with the database table

    After REFRESH, the cached object is not consistent with the database table. Why?
    I created a JDBC connection with the Oracle database (HR schema) using JDeveloper(10.1.3) and then I created an offline database (HR schema)
    in JDeveloper from the existing database tables (HR schema). Then I made some updates to the JOBS database table using SQL*Plus.
    Then I returned to the JDeveloper tool and refreshed the HR connection. But I found no any changes made to the offline database table JOBS in
    JDeveloper.
    How to make the JDeveloper's offline tables to be synchronized with the underling database tables?

    qkc,
    Once you create an offline table, it's just a copy of a table definition as of the point in time you brought it in from the database. Refreshing the connection, as you describe it, just refreshes the database browser, and not any offline objects. If you want to syncrhnonize the offline table, right-click the offline table and choose "Generate or Reconcile Objects" to reconcile the object to the database. I just tried this in 10.1.3.3 (not the latest 10.1.3, I know), and it works properly.

  • Hello Anybody, I have a question. Can any of you please suggest me how to make an xml file from the database table with all the rows? Note:- I am having the XSD Schema file and the resulted XML file should be in that XSD format only.

    The Oracle documentation has a good overview of the options available
    Generating XML Data from the Database
    Without knowing your version, I just picked 11.2, so you made need to look for that chapter in the documentation for your version to find applicable information.
    You can also find some information in XML DB FAQ

  • "Table VSEOPARENT is not in the database" after SolMan system copy to x64

    Hi SDNners,
    We've just completed a system copy of our SolMan 3.1 system onto a new
    (Xeon x64 based) server. This system copy is part of the process of
    moving SolMan 3.1 from an old server onto 64bit hardware and then
    upgrading it to SolMan v4 and Oracle 10G.
    Although the system appears to start properly in the MMC, we are unable
    to log into the system through SAPGUI - we get a SYNTAX_ERROR window
    instead of a logon screen.
    I've checked the SysLog from within the MMC and noticed a number of
    errors stating:
    Database: Table VSEOPARENT is not in the database
    Database: Table VSEOIFIMPL is not in the database
    Database: Table VSEOIFCOMP is not in the database
    I tried running SQL command 'select * from "SAPSOL"."VSEOPARENT"; and
    it confirmed that the table didn't exist. I then ran the same command
    on the source SolMan system and it showed that VSEOPARENT DID exist. I
    don't understand how these VSEO* tables could have gone missing between
    the source and target systems.
    I've searched OSS for VSEO* and cannot find anything. Please help!
    Thanks,
    Arwel.

    We have 640 kernel, ECC 5.0 and BASIS patch 23.
    For me the problem was with SAPVIEW table wasnt imported from source to target becuase SAPVIEW.STR file was 0 byte. STR files gets created in export preparation phase.
    It did happen because on source side master DVD, there was no option for export preparation. I had only option for tablesplit and export db.
    I did use ECC 5.0 SR2 Master DVD which had option for export preparation phase and that created SAPVIEW.STR file.
    Using migration monitor I did re-export and re-import and this time all views are imported in target.
    Regards,
    Mamadi.

    Hi Arwel,
    how exactly did you copy the database to the new server?
    the tables you stated are an essential part of the ABAP runtime environment, so the syntax error is surely because of these tables are missing.
