Repair Public folder and Drop Box

We have some Macs here connected via Ethernet/Router. Unfortunately on one of them there are problems now with files (created on one of the other Macs) which have been copied via the 'Public' folder or 'Drop Box'. Normally I can do everything with such files (from the other Macs), but now I always have to enter my password or change permissions when I want to f.e. edit/save/move/delete such a file. I remember I once ran a script which might have changed permissions. How can I get the original settings for these folders so that files will arrive in normal condition again?

Thanks Barney, we are using 10.6.8 on all Macs. The Drop Box of Mac #2 (with the problem) looks (via Get Info) as I'd specified & corrected:

HT5225 Syncing data between devices vs. sharing data and drop box files.

As you most likely kwow, I've been told that only Lion will allow one to use the cloud to share music, contacts, photos, and etc. between one's phone, iPad, and computer. Let's say I have 4000 photos on my desktop; and I don't wish to see all them on my other devices. Can I choose only the ones I need by connecting the iphone to the pc or iPad by using iTunes- or should I drag and drop all contacts,etc. that I wish to put in icloud - or should I use my drop box for all or some files? For instance, none of my iPhone phone number contacts came with there existing email addresses. I should say that I have many contacts and songs on an older version - leopard that is not compatible with iCloud. What would do?

Having played around more with PadSync, I find that I can drag files into PadSync (which then sync to the iPad), but when a revised version is synced back to PadSync, I can double click the icon to open the file in the mac's native application, but I can't drag the file out to a destination folder or use any other means of getting it out of PadSync.
Am I missing something?
---- ah, I found the way. I was looking at the files in PadSync using icon view. When I switched to list view, I can then drag files out of PadSync. Funny, I can't drag files out using icon view.

Repaired inbox folder and messages disappeared

Some inbox messages were corrupted so I clicked "repair folder". All messages prior to the one highlighted went away. Dropped from 1500+ messages to 46. Using POP3 and messages are still on server. Have successfully repaired folder many times. How did this happen? Can I recover the missing messages? Thank you.

your right, synchronization and storage is an IMAP only thing.
If your mail is still in your web mail, you can force a full download of POP mail by deleting the popstate.dat file from the accounts folder in your profile.
Help menu (alt+H) > Troubleshooting information and click the open folder button.
CLose Thunderbird, open the mail folder in explorer window that opened and then the folder names for the accounts server. Delete popstate.dat and restart Thunderbird. Delete the wrong one and you get more mail that you bargained for, nothing else.
Now to the cause here. I have no definitive answers. It is generic and full of assumptions. Common causes are the quarantining of the mail file by the anti virus program, or an attempt by such a program to excise one email from the file and not updating the index. Concurrency issues, again often involving anti virus trying to scan the file while is is being written by thunderbird. My solution is to exclude the Thunderbird profile folder and it's children from "on access" scanning, leaving scanning to the weekly or monthly scan and ensuring that all folders are compacted and IMAP accounts expunged before that scan, to ensure that email marked as deleted has actually been removed from the file before it is scanned.

So you have to mount your iDisk on your desktop and go directly to it with something like Air Share? I've always just worked with a transfer folder on my hard drive/desktop. Will this let you access ALL levels of files on your iDisk - not just your public folder?
I wonder what new capabilities Apple is talking about getting for accessing your iDisk from a iPhone/touch.

How to Drag a image from a folder and drop it into Photoshop, InDesign using keyboard?

Others may think silly about this question but the reality is I have to drag and drop several images into InDesign from a folder each one by one. Is it possible to drag and drop images from desktop (folder) to Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, etc?

Drag and Drop box?

Hi all
I want to code a Java application, that when executed, will display a box in a window. I then want to be able to drag a file from windows explorer into this box, and after dropping it in the box, I want the file name to be displayed in the console window. I'm really just interested in doing the drag and drop feature.
Can anyone give me some links or some info that would help me do this?

I have one Mac, two users. I wish to share a iBook with my wife, the other user. I move a copy of the book folder to "public" folder, and in her account "added to library". Does not show even though cue claims it is in her library. No book.

I find sharing books within my one computer near impossible - not easy as music is. It used to be easier, but now with iBooks and some other changes this has become difficult. Also - I can use the search feature to find the "books" folder, and use "Get Info" to find the supposed address, and then not find that folder location at all using a manual method stepping through Finder. So a second question is: where is this file hiding? It is not under User/Library/Containers.... as claimed by "Get Info". It seems that if I buy a book, the family can use it to put on their iPad.

Part of me understands the need to have purchases protected. I hope this does not get more and more complicated for "within family use". It is nice to buy music and share it with my wife, as we used to do with books prior to the iBooks "upgrade" - which mostly consisted of making it impossible to share books. Thanks though for your response; I was hoping for some luck and that maybe I had missed some simple step. To Apple: lighten up.

Can't see/access Drop Box in one user account

Here's an odd problem. We have four user accounts on our iMac. I can see and access everyone's Drop Box except for one user. No one can access that user's Drop Box. When you navigate to MacHD > Users > User1 > Public, that's as far as you can go. Drop Box does not show up. You can still drop files into Public.
I checked the Sharing and Permissions for User1's Public folder and Drop Box, and they match the settings for all the other users. I also looked at the Shared and Locked checkboxes, and they match the other users.
I'm stumped. It's no big deal, really, since you can still drop stuff off into Public, but it's also something that's not working right.
Anyone have an idea what could be wrong?

Snap And like you said, I have both machines set up with exactly the same settings. Another bug or something I'm doing wrong? Please reply if you figure out the solution.

Problems with permissions on Public folder?

I can see my wife's Public folder and drop box but she can't see mine, although she can log in as a guest. We're both using Leopard. I think it's some kind of permissions problem because in the info for my Public folder there are three users:
me: read & write
unknown: read only (that's the weird one)
everyone: read only
My wife has:
her: read & write
staff: read only
everyone: read only
When I checked the permissions for my Public folder by running ls -ld Public in Terminal I got the following: drwxr-xr-x@ 5 xbodhipaksa xbodhipaksa 170 Jun 13 08:45 Public
I'm not sure what that @ symbol is doing there.
I ran chmod -vv 755 Public in Terminal but that didn't change anything.

The Public folder isn't visible when she logs in as a guest. I just created an account for her a few minutes ago and gave her read only access to the public folder, but when I logged in remotely using her computer and that new account the public folder still didn't show up.
File sharing is and has been enabled in the system preferences, and her new account is showing up there.

Drop box/ public

I have inadvertently deleted or misplaced my drop box so that I can pick up stuff I am doing on my laptop and finish it downstairs on my IMAC. I did a permission verify and fix... but I am wondering where in the branch off files where should it be placed.
A side note.. I have mobile me - but the file part is no longer there .. it's all email and then setting.. what have I don't wrong. If I put things in my "Public" folder and go on via internet I can find it that way.

when I get downstairs Intel IMAC where I have more hard drive to work on pics etc.

Open the /Home/Public/ folder then press COMMAND-SHIFT-N to open an untitled folder. Rename it to "Drop Box" without quotes.

CU8 Update - Public Folder Calendar and Contacts show up in OWA that no longer exist and I cannot access when selecting.

We recently updated to CU8. I went to test out the new Public Folder access to calendars and contacts. I first go to Calendars in OWA and I see a list of several calendars. I see one that is listed twice, one I can open and the other states "Couldn't
open calendar - A connection couldn't be made with the shared calendar. Remove the calendar and try to add it again, or ask the owner to share it again." I also see other calendar's that we used in the past but no longer reside under public folders.
I get the same error on them.
For People, I can go there and I see a section called "Public Folder" and there is a contact list called "IT Team Contacts". When I click on it, it states in the middle pane "Your request can't be completed right now.
Please try again later." This contact list is not on our public folders.
Any ideas on why we I'm seeing these issues?

Seems like some orphaned PF favorites. You should be able to remove them from Outlook, or via MFCMAPI

I am having a problem moving files from a iMac in location mac in another location. I have tried using Dropbox and the Public folder in the i disc. When I drag the files into dropbox they become alias' and I can't open them at the other end beca

I am having a problem moving files from an imac in one location to an imac inanother location. I have tried using Dropbox which is installed in both locations but when i drad a file ino yhe app it becomes an alias. When I get to the other location it says I can't open the file because the " original application that created it is not present". This is despite the fact that the app that created both files is installed in both computers. If I use the Public folder in the idisc, when I get to the other location the file isn't there. Am I forgetting to turn something on or off? Should I manually sync the Public folder and if so how? Thanks

MT Exchange 2013 and Public Folder Limits

So having some real trouble trying to digest this data from a multi-tenant perspective.
Total public folders in hierarchy

So if my hierarchy consists of root folders 0-9,A-Z. Then below those top levels I place tenant domain level folders. Then below that I actually have folders for tenant data. Which of the above category applies? Sub-folders under
the parent folder is somewhat misleading? Does that mean in my above scenario I would only have 36 "parent" folders then would be able to have a total of 10k subfolders under those parents?
Or does it effectively mean 10k folders, that is all. One parent folder and 9,999 sub-folders? Or some combination of the two?
I had very high expectations for the redesigned public folders with incorporation into the DAG, but this solution seems MUCH less scalable and flexible then the legacy design. Additionally the recommendation of 2k concurrent users per PF mailbox, with
a max number of PF mailboxes at 100 effectively sets an org limit of 200k total mailboxes.
I can't help but feel this is just another nail in the coffin of non O365 Exchange resellers.

Based on my research, the public folder size can be up to 100GB in the hosted Exchange 2013 environment:

As long as the total number is beyond the limit, we can at most have 100 public folder mailboxes ,10k public folders, 10k subfolders under one public folder and 200 concurrent users for one public folder mailboxes.
