Repeating a slide in Cap 6

I am creating a simulation in Captivate 6. At one point in the simulation, I want a user to have the option of selecting a click box. On success, I want the user to move forward to the next slide. On failure, I want the user to return to the beginning fo the current screen. Is there anyway to do this without creating a duplicate of the slide and having the user jump to that screen on failure?

Hi,
You can acheive this by creating an advanced action and choosing that for your "on failure" action. This link explains the process for making the advanced action well (with screenshots!). There's a small difference depending on your version of Captivate, due to variables changing/deprecating, but either way it's pretty straight-forward: http://blog.easelsolutions.com/2011/01/replay-slide-in-captivate-5/
Hope that helps!

  • Import slides into Cap 3

    I'm working on a large project and the designer sends me
    their file, i have to add a quiz to it at the end so i normally
    import/slides from an existing one.
    The file is 10 meg, if i insert just one question slide (and
    results page) into my existing file in Captivate 3 it normally
    doubles the size to 20 meg !
    Plus has anyone else had this ? So frustrating...
    I click on my storyboard to where i want the new frames to be
    inserted. I choose 'File / Import / Slides Objects and choose say 3
    slides.
    The cursor is waiting for ages and then it seems like its
    imported, i have a look and instead of importing several frames
    theres just a single frame with horizontal grey lines all across it
    ? Like its corrupt ?
    Very frustrating, i keep doing the same then 'suddenly' on
    say the 4th attempt it seems to have worked.
    I would copy/paste but that often creates multiple images of
    the same graphic in the library bumping up the filesize but i just
    wished import slides would always work

    Apart from the above - Import ppt slides to Cap 4 > export this to Flash >publish > this gives individual swfs > import these back into Cap 4.
    Oh yeah - and then HOPE that somewhere along the line that the font colours haven't changed and any animations still work.
    I think I shall be sticking with Cap 3.
    (mind you i did notice that the FULL version of Camtasia Studio costs as much as the Cap 4 upgrade. I dont know how well this can handle ppt slides but may be worth a look.....)

  • Problem with Spry:Repeat and Slide Effect on IE6

    I run the website for my kids' hockey association and I'm not
    a web programmer. I am trying to display events in a Spry region
    using spry:repeat. The data is coming from a Google Calendar . I
    display the event date and title on the main page. I have the
    onclick set to call a javascript function that exposes the details
    using the spry slide effect. It works ok except in IE6.
    The following creates my dataset from a method call to a
    Coldfusion component that returns the XML I need:
    <script type="text/javascript">
    var ds1 = new Spry.Data.XMLDataSet("
    http://tornadoyouthhockey.org/Events.cfc?method=EventXML",
    "events/event",{distinctOnLoad:false});
    </script>
    The following function slides open the detail:
    <script type="text/javascript">
    function startBlind(rid) {
    var contentdiv = document.getElementById('panel'+ rid
    +'Content');
    var panel_height = contentdiv.clientHeight;
    if (panel_height<100){
    var bd = new Spry.Effect.Blind('panel'+ rid +'Content',
    {duration: 800, to: '100px', toggle: true});
    else {
    var bd = new Spry.Effect.Blind('panel'+ rid +'Content',
    {duration: 800, to: '0px', toggle: true});
    bd.start();
    </script>
    Within the repeat I have:
    <div class="EventPanelLabel"
    onclick="startBlind({ds_RowID});">{startDate} &mdash;
    {title}</div>
    I think the XML looks OK but for some reason when the page
    loads, IE6 returns:
    Exception caught while loading
    http://tornadoyouthhockey.org/Events.cfc?method=EventXML:
    [object Error]
    The page seems to work fine in Safari and Firefox on the Mac
    and IE7 as well as Firefox on Windows. Just IE6 seems to be having
    the problem. Could you please take a look at
    http://tornadoyouthhockey.org
    and provide any suggestions you may have?
    Also, is there a way to hide the {startDate} - {title} I'm
    seeing while the page loads?
    Thanks,
    Kevin

    Kin:
    Thanks for your reply. I made the changes you suggested but,
    unfortunately, IE6 is still giving me the same error when the page
    loads:
    Exception caught while loading
    http://tornadoyouthhockey.org/Events.cfc?method=EventXML:
    [object Error]
    Could this be part of the problem an need to be changed as
    well? :
    <div id="panel{ds_RowID}Content"
    Any other ideas? The page is live if you'd care to look...

  • Csv dataset not showing repeats in slide show

    I created a csv dataset slide show.  The repeat areas showed at first but is no longer showing.  I have checked the code for misplaced commas, non-allowed special characters, etc.  I am baffled as to where the repeat went to.

  • Exported Slideshow Repeats Intro Slide for more than one minute

    I created a slideshow in iPhoto 9.5.1.  I exported the slideshow as a movie.  When I play the exported movie, it repeats the intro slide in the middle of the movie for more than a minute at a time. Any advice?  Thank you so much!

    Does the slideshow play correctly in iPhoto?  Did you create the slideshow directly from an album and then exported it for from the slideshow mode?
    NOTE:  slideshows created in albums with the photos sorted manually will not play correctly. Only photos sorted by one of the other options play as they should.

  • Navigation issues with question slides in Captivate 6

    In earlier versions of Captivate (5.5) we have always been able to insert question slides into our projects as checkpoints and allow the user to freely navigate through the project and answer the checkpoint questions as often as they like. We have also been able to provide success and failure feedback popups for those question.
    In Captivate 6 we are seeing that question slides can apparently only be answered once and do not reset to be answered again the next time the user navigations to those slides. We want to allow the user to answer checkpoint questions as often as they like and we need to be able to provide success and failure feedback popups. We have tried every imaginable combination of setting with no success. Has anyone else been experiencing this or have a solution to this problem?
    Thanks,
    Vernon . . .

    When I run the same projects with the exact same settings side by side in Captivate 5 and Captivate 6, in the Cap 5 project I can navigate the project freely and answer the checkpoint questions repeatedly as often as I like. As I navigate the questions are reset and can be answered again every time I enter the question slides.
    In Cap 6 the questions are locked after the first answer and cannot be answered a second time. Even stranger is the fact that when tested using only a subset of the slides adjacent to the question slide (next 3) it works and does appear to reset the question allowing repeated answers, but it fails when the entire project is run.
    I have asked our other developers to test this and they are experiencing the same problem with their projects.
    The only difference I can see between the two projects is that the Quiz results slide in Cap 6 cannot be deleted whereas it does not exist in the Cap 5 project ???

  • E72 Screen Saver Slide Show Issues

    I have my e72 setup to run a slideshow when it goes into power save mode...
    It works fine but after awhile, it goes from slide show mode into displaying a "clock".
    I would think it would just repeat the slide show over and over?
    What am I doing wrong? Thanks!

    There is a max of x (1?) minutes for the power saver.

  • Can I jump to a specific time in a slide?

    Hello everybody,
    I'm pretty new to the Adobe Captivate Project and although it works very intuitive and there are a lot of resources available, I couldn't find the answer to my question.
    I'm making an instruction video/software simulation for clients. This way clients won't have to call us when configuring their e-mail, they 'just' have to do what the video tells them. To encourage users to use the movie as an instruction I put in moments where the video pauses. The viewer gets a kind of pop-up where he can make a choice between 'repeat instructions' and 'continue movie'.
    The thing is, that when someone would use 'repeat instructions' it jumps back to the slide where the user made the same choice before. So for example:
    Slide 1 - Instructions
    Slide 2 - Instructions
    Slide 3 - Pause + Instructions
    Slide 4 - Instructions
    Slide 5 - Pause + Instructions
    Slide 6 - Instructions
    When I want to repeat the instructions from slide 1, 2 and 3 there is no problem. But when I'm at slide 5 and want to repeat the slides 3 and 4 i DO have a problem, because the 'pop-up' in slide 3 appears again giving the viewer the option to continue or repeat slides 1 and 2 again.
    My thought are either to skip to a point in the slide, just after the pop-up object. Or make sure that previous pop-ups don't show.
    Is there a solution to this? Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Newbie-Robbert

    Hello again,
    You are talking about a 'popup', how did you achieve that: could be a Text Caption (TC) perhaps? I'll try to explain with the information you gave in the first post.
    For slide 3 you created a TC that explains to the user what to do if he gets for the first time to slide3, I'll call this TC1. Create a second TC that explains what to do when he gets for the second (or third...) time to this slide3, I'll call this TC2. Initially you set the visibility for TC1 on, so that when the user gets to slide 3 for the first time he will see it. But you set the visibility for TC2 off (can be done in the properties of the TC).
    Create a user variable, p.e. v_visit3 (menu Project, Actions, tab Variables). Originally this variable will not contain anything. On exit of slide 3 you attach the action Assign, choose the user variable v_visit3 and store the value 1 in it. This is a simple action, not an Advanced Action.
    Now the Advanced Action (Project, Actions, tab Advanced Actions:
    create a new action and label it p.e. CheckVisit
    double click on the 'Statement', when it is red, use the space bar
    click on 'Condition'
    select 'Select a variable', use the space bar and choose your variable v_visit3
    select 'is equal to'
    select 'value' and type in the number 1
    under 'begin' select the first 'Add statement', use the spacebar and choose 'show' and point to the second Text Caption (TC2)
    add another action, to hide the first Text Caption (TC1).
    normally it will not be necessary to add something in the part 'Or Else
    This Advanced action should be attached on Enter slide 3.
    Hope this makes some sense, Advanced Actions are really worthwhile.

  • Slider addChangeListener - StateChange question

    I'm having a hard time wording my problem, Please let me know if I don't make sense,
    Below I have three snippets of code the first set of code works and achives what I want to do but I feel like it is redunedent.
    The second set of code is what i have tried based off of what can be done with checkboxes and the third set of code actually uses the checkboxes to select the event source.
    I feel like I am repeating my Slider Listeners over and over when I should be using a generic Listener which would have a statement inside it to compare where my selection came from. Is there a way to use event.getSource() method to compare which combobox was selected like the last piece of code below that uses checkboxes.
    Snippet One
          //Start Slider Listeners
         //this is inside my constructor right now??
          sliderRed.addChangeListener(

    I am building a drawing program in this code I have a drawstring where shape objects would be. Are there shorter ways to code this? ie. the listeners

  • Sharing Presentations larger than 50 slides

    Hi everyone - I have decks created in Keynote for iPad that have over 50 slides (it's easier to demo a product with screenshots than to travel with my laptop to show the product). I can't share using iWork.com as it prohibits uploading anything larger than 50 slides. Emailing these don't work either (I get the message as the email attachment is too large). Ideally, I'd like to somehow integrate Keynote with iDisk or Good Reader or Dropbox, etc. Is there anyway I can do this? I don't think I'm missing anything, but just wanted to ask.

  • Bloated files - found - a painful improvised solution

    Having followed several items in the forum concerning project files sizes bloating (within Captivate 4) I've tried a few experiments and the results may be helpful to others.
    Test 1): A file of one slide (yes, one) that had magically grown from a few kilobytes to 55Mb - the slide was the review slide that is automatically built in by Captivate if you select the review option in a quiz. The only change I had made to the (native) slide was to put a small white rectangle onto the slide. So why 55Mb? My only clue was that I had extracted it from a slide set of 200 slides (yes, big) that had an all up size of 175Mb.
    So I created a one slide set (blank slide) of the same screen resolution and imported the review page.
    I saved the project under a new name.
    Rushed to the file directory and the new file size? 377Kb. A cool reduction of 54.5Mb!
    Test 2): A file of 20 slides containing video and audio. Carefully purged of unused library items. File size 82Mb.
    Repeated the process as per test 1.
    New file size? 3.5Mb - and this is reasonable considering that it has an audio stream.
    Captivate 4 clearly has a problem that needs urgent attention, this is the worst case of bloating I have ever come across. It's as if the entire history of the project is being added into the project (library?) on every single project change thus topsy gets bigger and bigger.
    Remedy whilst Adobe gets its act together and fixes the product, tentatively, seems to be:
    Divide up the bloated project into 20 slide sets (assuming a large project) - I've learnt the hard way that it has problems importing slides/objects from anything bigger (crashes routinely where slide set is more than 25 slides).
    Then create a one slide project (same dimensions etc.) and import the 20 slide sections into the one slide project a few slides at a time, I bring in the first five, then the second, then the third etc. until all the 20 are imported.
    Next save the new project under a new name. Call this S1
    Repeat until all the twenty slide sets have been imported into their new projects. S1, S2, S3 ...
    Now create a final new one slide project. Call this P1.
    Import the sets S1, S2, S3 ... etc into P1 - they will now import (because their size has shrunk).
    Finally save P1 under a new name say, P1Complete.
    Completed project has shrunk about 80% in size and is manageable even though it has many slides.
    Huge apologies if this has been covered before but I couldn't quickly find an answer to Captivate 4 bloating across the threads, and it was impacting a very important project here.

    Henry

    Hi Kerry,
    We would normally daisy chain projects because many of our projects have a natural structure like Chapters within Books. But unfortunately our multi-slide productions are typically software capture and two or three minutes of capture of a screen can easily generate 50-60 slides.
    I like Captivate 4, potentially, because we use a lot of Adobe CS4 products and they integrate nicely. But I have to say that Cap 4 is very buggy.
    We've had bloated files (today we reduced one one-slide production from 75Mb (yes!) to 340Kb. I think the resources library eats up anything and never discards it - I'm highly suspicious of the garbage clearance routines. In fact when clearing out unused items the file size rarely shrinks.
    The program isn't very object-oriented and links don't get updated unless you exit a slide then come back again. The classic example of this would be to choose an image for a button, then edit the image, then call up the button again from the resource library. Guess what? Yup, old button still showing.
    The audio editing via the timeline is woefully buggy and if you mess with the timeline play-head you get rewarded with a white out.
    You can't import slides from other Cap 4 projects if they are over about 20Mb (the project not the slide) because cap 4 crashes.
    And you need a hell of a lot of horsepower to do anything in real time.
    I hope it gets better, it has a lot of potential but I haven't come across anything quite so stressful in recent times.
    Best regards,
    Henry

    For eg: I have the following in my output,
    it_final-matnr, it_final-idnrk, it_final-ebeln, it_final-menge1, it_final-menge2.
    Pen, cap, 4500028544, 125 , 4566

    Pen, body, 4500028548, 165, 3466
    But my output should be in the below format with respect to it_final-idnrk as I am doing
    the report in ALV GRID I will sort it_final-matnr and it_final-idnrk .
    Please advice how to move '0' to the repeated value.
    Pen, cap, 4500028544, 125 , 4566
    Pen, cap, 5500028543, 0 , 0

    hi,
    here is the logic
    it_source is the table which has all values
    l_v is initially 0.
    loop at it_source into wa_source.
      l_v = l_v+1
    wa_final-matnr = wa_source-matnr.
    wa_final-idnrk  = wa_source-idnrk.
    wa_final-ebeln = wa_source-ebeln.
    temp1 =  wa_source-menge1.
    temp2 =  wa_source-menge2.
    if l_v NE 1.
    IF wa_source-menge1 EQ TEMP1.
    wa_final-menge1 = '0'.
    else.
    wa_final-menge1 = wa_source-mange1
    ENDIF
    IF wa_source-menge2  EQ   TEMP2.
    wa_final-menge2 = 'o'.
    else
    wa_final-menge2 = wa_source-mange2.
    ENDIF.
    endif.
    append wa_final to it_final.
    CLEAR :temp1, temp2,wa_source
    endloop.

  • How do I use the same execute advanced actions?

    I am using captivate 5, windows 7
    I created a slide with several click boxes and images.  I name them, for example,
    Click Box A  Image A
    Click Box B  Image B
    Click Box C  Imsge C
    And perhaps Images D, E, F
    I created Advanced actions, for example,
    Show_Image_A - which shows A and hides B and C - and shows Image D
    Show_image_B - which shows B and hides A and C - and shows images D and E
    Show_image_C - which shows C and hides A and B - and shows Image F
    Then On Success for each of the click boxes, Execute advanced actions as below:
    Click Box A - Show Image A
    Click Box B - Show Image B
    Click Box C - Show image C
    Works fine.
    My problem:  I want to repeat this slide's actions again (and over and over) with new images, same actions of click boxes.  SO - I thought I could copy it and paste it where I wanted it.  I want to use it again later in the same project - and I want to be able to use it again in anothe project.  I was hoping NOT to have to rebuild the slide every time, but here's what I am seeing:
    The click boxes and images are in the duplicated slide - BUT they all have different names - no longer my named Click_Box_A, but Click_Box_<number>, etc each time I paste it has a new number.  SO - my advanced actions still say Click Box A, Image A, etc - and obviously they're not recognized here. SO - my actions don't work here.
    It is painful - and tedious! - to change the names of all the objects and then change the names in the advanced actions.  There MUST be a way to do this that I don't know about?
    Please can someone help me?
    THANK YOU!!

    Hello,
    You cannot copy an advanced action from one project to another, that is really a pity. Please, if you have time, fill in a feature request!
    If the actions are always similar: why not create a template with the advanced actions you mostly use and create future projects on that template. I do it that way for the advanced actions I'm using often.

  • How do I make a Keynote slideshow controllable in an iDvd DVD?

    How do I make a Keynote slideshow controllable on an DVD made with iDVD? And how do I make the slideshow completely auto with no return to a theme. I want people to be able to start the slideshow when they insert the DVD (no theme) and advance through the Keynote slide show (with all transitions, etc.,) by pressing a button on the remore controller to show eack slide - and advance at their option. Then they should have the option to repeat the slide show. Currently, the slideshow plays all the way through - and then pops into a theme intro - which I don't want. I thought it was set to run without a theme with my setting in the "Map" menu.I have exported a Quicktime version of the slideshow from Keynote which is completely controllable (slide by slide) on my MacBook Pro, but just runs straight through from an iDVD DVD. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for your help which I badly need...

    (From fellow poster Mishmumken: )
    How to create a DVD in iDVD without menu (there are several options):
    1. Easy: Drop your iMovie in the autoplay box in iDVD's Map View, then set your autoplay item (your movie) to loop continously. Disadvantage: The DVD plays until you hit stop on the remote
    2. Still easy: If you don't want your (autoplay) movie to loop, you can create a black theme by replacing the background of a static theme with a black background and no content in the dropzone (text needs to be black as well). Disadvantage: The menu is still there and will play after the movie. You don't see it, but your disc keeps spinning in the player.
    3. Still quite easy but takes more time: Export the iMovie to DV tape, and then re-import using One-Step DVD.
    Disadvantage: One-Step DVD creation has been known to be not 100% reliable.
    4. (My preferred method) Easy enough but needs 3rd party software: Roxio Toast lets you burn your iMovie to DVD without menu - just drag the iMovie project to the Toast Window and click burn. Disadvantage: you'll need to spend some extra $$ for the software. In Toast, you just drop the iMovie project on the Window and click Burn.
    5. The "hard way": Postproduction with myDVDedit (freeware)
    Tools necessary: myDVDedit ( http://www.mydvdedit.com )
    • create a disc image of your iDVD project, then double-click to mount it.
    • Extract the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders to a location of your choice. select the VIDEO_TS folder and hit Cmd + I to open the Inspector window
    • Set permissions to "read & write" and include all enclosed items; Ignore the warning.
    • Open the VIDEO_TS folder with myDVDedit. You'll find all items enclosed in your DVD in the left hand panel.
    • Select the menu (usually named VTS Menu) and delete it
    • Choose from the menu File > Test with DVD Player to see if your DVD behaves as planned.If it works save and close myDVDedit.
    • Before burning the folders to Video DVD, set permissions back to "read only", then create a disc image burnable with Disc Utility from a VIDEO_TS folder using Laine D. Lee's DVD Imager:
    http://lonestar.utsa.edu/llee/applescript/dvdimager.html
    Our resident expert, Old Toad, also recommends this: there is a 3rd export/share option that give better results.  That's to use the Share ➙ Media Browser menu option.  Then in iDVD go to the Media Browser and drag the movie into iDVD where you want it.
    Hope this helps!
