Repeating domain name in URL bar

This is probably something very simple to correct. After I upload my iWeb 3.0.1 site to my personal domain, the url reads like this:
http://mydomain.com/mydomain.com/welcome.html. (mydomain.com is substituted for the real domain name.)
Why isn't it just reading http://mydomain.com/welcome.html? Why the double domain?
I'm assuming iWeb is creating a folder called mydomain.com that contains my website files in my public_html folder instead of just putting the files directly there. Probably a simple setting I've messed up somewhere. Can anyone offer some help?
Thanks,
Robert

No, it is nothing that you have done, but it is the way iWeb works and has worked ever since iWeb 06 - it publishes to a Site folder and that along with a separate index file is what is uploaded to your public_html folder at your server and this is why you get the double domain name.
As others have said the fix is either to change to site name to something shorter like Site or S - you can't leave the site name blank in iWeb, it won't let you. You then republish your site so your url will be http://www.domain.com/sitename/pagename.
Your other alternative is to open iWeb and then publish your site to your desktop, so select ftp to local folder. Then use Cyberduck or Transmit to upload just the contents of your site folder to your public_html folder on your server. You will then get the url http://www.domain.com/pagename.
However, one word of warning, if you want to use things like RSS feed, you won't be able to because it won't work as you have broken iWeb site structure.

  • Major bug in Safari 6: previous domain persists in URL bar when clicking a link

I've noticed an extremely weird and significant bug in Safari 6 / Mountain Lion:
When I'm navigating through a site, sometimes when clicking a link, Safari tries to open the corresponding URL on a previously visited site's domain instead of the current site.
    For example:
First, I'm surfing on apple.com. Then, I navigate to another site, say estibot.com. On estibot.com, I click on a link that should take me to:
    http://www.estibot.com/tools.html
Instead, safari takes me to http://www.apple.com/tools.html, which of course produces a 'not found' error. Nothing wrong with the link; this is purely Safari's doing.
This happens often, and apparently can happen with any site.
In other words, the domain name of a previously visited site persists in the URL, and the page that I'm trying to navigate to is added to the domain of the PREVIOUS site, not the actual site I'm using.
This is a major bug and is often rendering Safari useless for my workflow. How could a bug like this end up in the finished product?
    Cheers
    Esa

Having the same problem. It is randomly consistent, i.e. some links consistently get redirected to a specific domain. For example, I am experiencing this issue when using Basecamp and links being misdirected to a specific client's website. However, the criteria for why some links redirect and some do not appears random. This issue does not occur in Firefox. This leads me to believe that it is not a DNS issue. May be a Safari/DNS pair issue or solely a Safari issue. We do use an internal DNS (OS X Server) for browsing internal development wbsites which then rolls over to a public DNS. Again, this problem has never occured in Firefox and consistently occurs in Safari.
    Safari Version 6.0 (7536.25)
    Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4
    On a side note...
Safari's strong-handed rewriting in the address bar as you type is crazy anoying. Or should I say "too helpful?" It seems to break the first rule of usuability: don't change the interface while the user is interacting with it.
And the unified address/search is rediculously annoying for developers who use non-complient top level domains for internal development (such as .dev)
And the new inspector seems like a huge step backwards in usuability. (debatable considering I'm probably not as advanced as some developers.)

  • Change domain name in URL box

    Hi there,
I have updated the domain name for a client's website and followed the proceedure from other discussions I saw on the subject. It works fine to export and publish using the udated domain name, but the old name still shows up in the URL box on the live site. How do I update that so the new domain name shows up after the site is opened?
    Thank you so much!
    Mary

    Hi Mary,
Your domain agsgaming.com (managed by NAMECHEAP.COM) has a 302 Redirect setup to forward to http://www.americangamingsystems.com.
You would need to contact your domain registrar to fix this redirect for you or help you fix that.

  • Domain name and URL

Hi, i need help again. Now the domain name "www.edadecorationetarchitecture.com" is now available and i can use it or transfer it but when i publish my website there is this message : "The requested URL /index.html was not found on this server." My new URL is "www.edadecorationetarchitecture.eu" and not "www.edadecorationetarchitecture.com" anymore. What can i do to transfer the old URL to the new one without changing my new domain name or the new one i paid for 3 years.

I am moving from .com to .eu .But Muse keep the ".com" when i want to publish my website and when i want to create the other one, there's an other adress like "edadecorationetarchitecture.worldsecuresystems.com" or "edadecorationetarchitecture.businesscatalyst.com" and i don't want this. My home page is also locked when you want to come back on it. I pay just for the domain with "eu" and not "com", but i pay to dislock it. I just want to publish my website without any problem and when people are searching for the name of EDA DECORATION ET ARCHITECTURE or www.edadecorationetarchitecture.com, they can see my fully website and can return to the home page without difficulties. I have paid many thing for this name of domain and company.

  • Change hostname to registered DNS domain name in URL

    Hi all,
We have just new install of IAS 1.0.2.1
Now server is responding on the hostname fe: http://myserver. We have registered name of the domain fe. www.ourdomain.com and we want to apply it for our application server.
I know that I have to change httpd.conf file. What are next steps?
    Thanks Marcin

    Marcin,
Run the ssodatan script from the OS command line to associate your new domain with the portal and login server. Too see the paramaters/options required by ssodatan, run ssodatan without any options. A slightly more detailed explanation of ssodatan is in the Oracle Portal Configuration Guide.

  • Ftp of local files to GoDaddy results in duplicate domain name in URL

I have tried CyberDuck, SEO Tool, Filezilla and going directly from the iWeb ftp option and I keep getting duplication in the URL. My website is RGGCommunications.com. The publish to local folders has also created two different index.html, the correct one in the higher level directory, the older version is in a subdirectory.
My RGG_Communications directory includes all of my page directories along with .html files, a feed.xml and assets.http... files. But within that grouping of directories is another RGG_Communications directory which has all of the same directories without any .html files. The only exception is a stats directory which is also duplicated at the highest directory right below the first RGG_Communications.
If I knew of a way to take a screen shot of the Finder window to show the hierarchy, I would.
I am a beginner but learning. I use Taco HTML Editor for fixing a titling problem that comes up, but this problem is very frustrating. I must have deleted and sync'd or uploaded these files 10 times for various reasons using different tools but I don't have a consistent and reliable way of getting it done right all the time.
    HELP!!!!

Your Sitename is the same as your domainname. That's twice.
If you change your sitename to something shorter, a, then the URL wil be :
    http://rggcommunications.com/a/ComBlog/ComBlog.html
If you also want to avoid the "a" then you have to put the files in the root manually with a 3rd party FTP app.
You will then have this URL :
    http://rggcommunications.com/ComBlog/ComBlog.html
But iWeb creates URLs to your RSS feed with the Sitename in it. Your visitors will get an error when they subscribe to your blog.
And you will always have to publish to a folder and then use an 3rd party FTP app to upload the files.
My solution solves the problem at the serverside, without iWeb knowing about it.
The solution is difficult, but in the end it saves a lot of time.

  • Why is most of the URL address, except for the domain name, in gray font? It's difficult to read. I would like to make the entire address font in black

    [http://pics.livejournal.com/tersa/pic/006gzfsf Screenshot of the behavior]
Before I upgraded to Firefox 6.0, the URL address was displayed in black text.
After upgrading, it is now displaying only the core domain name (e.g, mozilla.com) in black text, while any extra text (like, https://support. ) is grayed out.
It is very difficult to read this gray text on my monitor. I'd like to make it so that the entire address is displayed in black text, but I couldn't seem to find any kind of configuration setting under Options to change this.
Please let me know if I can modify the URL display to be all black again.

That is a new feature in Firefox to highlight the domain in the URL bar. You can change a preference to make the entire URL dark.
    Change a preference:
#type '''''about:config''''' in the Location/URL bar and press Enter.
#if you see a warning, accept (promise to be careful)
    #Filter: '''''browser.urlbar.formatting.enabled'''''
#in lower panel, double-click that item to toggle value to '''''false'''''
I am not sure whether or not you need to re-start Firefox after doing the above for the change to take effect. Test and if it does not work, then re-start Firefox and test again.

  • Domain name and  session

    Hi ,
We have deployed our application on tomcat server built on struts framework.
We have also set the domain name and are redirecting the domain name to Static Ip
where our application is deployed with URL Masking option enabled.
Everything is working fine in Firefox. But in IE6 and IE7 we are facing issues related to sessions.
    Example:
it works when we access directly
    http://156.78.78.89:8000/myapp/login.do?method=display
when i redirect this with a domain name(with URL masking enabled) like
         http://www.mydomain.com It does not work.
I am not able to login into application(using sessions of this) or use shopping cart(using cookies)
Cookies are getting disabled and there is no session maintainance.
Is it problem with struts config or tomcat server?
I am unable to take my application live because of this issue.
Please help me to solve. Thank you for your time and consideration

  • Domain name error

I'm trying to add a domain name to one of my Business Catalyst sites. I keep getting the same error message -- that the url I want to us is already in use. Previously, I was using the url for another Business Catalyst site. I thought I had deleted it. However, I tried to check and I can no longer access the admin site. When I sign in, I'm redirected to a godaddy.com page with the url that I'm trying to use. Frustrating. Please advise on how I can delete the old Business Catalyst site and any previous instances of the url I'm trying use. Thank you!

  • How to add domain name to SharePoint URL so SharePoint used FQDN address?

    Hello,
I have SharePoint sites with fully qualified domain name (FQDN). I have DNS and SharePoint configured to access sites with the FQDN links. I work in an organization with users who have logins in different domains, SharePoint servers are in different domains,
and users who connect to the SharePoint externally. So, the FQDN links used for SharePoint sites works great in getting users connected. However, some users enter sites with no FQDN, i.e http://sharepointsite v.s. http://sharepointsite.domain.com, and some
of the SharePoint features do not work or they may not be able to connect to sites.
The problem is that users have short-cuts or favorites or hyper-links with links that are non-FQDN.
In my alternative access mappings, I have both settings for non-FQDN and FQDN, like http://server  and http://server.domain.com, but this does not help. The public URL zone is the FQDN and the site collection is the FQDN URL.
Is there a way for DNS to add the domain.com automatically to web links, if they don't have them?  Anything I can do differently in SharePoint?
    Paul

I actually posted that question on that site.
In the alternative access mappings, I tried adding a http://site as in Internal URLs in the default zone and SharePoint would not take it.  I tried adding the URL in the intranet zone and SharePoint said it was already
    added.
    So, this did not work.
    DNS settings are:
    Alias (CNAME) = sharepointsite
Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN)  = sharepointsite.domain.com
Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) for target host = server.domain.com
When I type in sharepiontsite in IE address bar, it will revert to
http://sharepointsite.domain.com.  So, that is working, but the URL is not converted to a FQDN with a full address, like
    http://sharepointsite/project/default.aspx
I am still stuck. Any other suggestions?
    Paul

  • Use firefox cannot open cpanel of a domain name and cannot see all image of a url when use firefoz to open that url

You can use these steps to check if images are blocked:
*Open the web page that has the images missing in a browser tab.
*Click the website favicon ([[Site Identity Button]]) on the left end of the location bar.
*Click the "More Information" button to open the "Page Info" window with the Security tab selected (also accessible via "Tools > Page Info").
*Go to the <i>Media</i> tab of the "Tools > Page Info" window.
*Select the first image link and scroll down through the list with the Down arrow key.
*If an image in the list is grayed and there is a check-mark in the box "<i>Block Images from...</i>" then remove that mark to unblock the images from that domain.

  • Running Windows 7, all versions of Firefox beyond 3.6.0 will not access websites, showing Error 404 and displaying only the portion of the URL that follows the domain name

Choosing any of several dozen bookmarks, Firefox will show a screen reporting Error 404 and display only part of the complete URL (whatever follows the slant mark beyond the domain name). When going to a new site, such as provided by a Google search, the initial page may show up but clicking on links within that page again brings up the 404 error. My only solution has been to uninstall whatever new version of Firefox has been automatically downloaded and then re-install version 3.6.0, which works.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox.

  • Help:Domain name forwarding to .mac URL

Experts - newbie here - used iweb and built my site. Forwarded my domain name to the .mac URL and everytime I try to access the domain name I get a .mac screen that says my .mac iweb site does not exist. Seemed all rather simple with point and click so now what? Thanks

everytime I try to access the domain name I get a
.mac screen that says my .mac iweb site does not
    exist.
Most likely you made an error in the url. If you would provide the two urls someone could probably help you fix it, otherwise it's pretty impossible.

  • Modifying Portal URL to use Fully Qualified Domain Name

    Hi,
We have a portal that I can access now by using the URL 'invsrvr001:50000/irj/portal'. We would need the URL to use the fully qualified domain name such as 'invsrvr001.company.com:50000/irj/portal'. Towards that end we added the profile paramter 'icm/host_name_full' with parameter value 'invsrvr001.company.com' and restarted the server. After the we tried to login to the portal using 'invsrvr001.company.com:50000/irj/portal' but the system displayed 'The page cannot be displayed' error.
What else needs to be done so as to use the fully quailified domain name?
Do I name to change the computer name from 'INVSRVR001' to 'INVSRVR001.COMPANY.COM'?
    Regards
    ND

Ok, if you want to use FQDN including your domain extention (host.domain.com) you need to include your host into the domain.
Also your PDC should be doing the time of DNS server so check that.
This should solve your issue, please close the thread.
