Hi,
The screen on my MacBookPro 15" (10.6.8) early 2008 has been flickering purple horizontal lines and faded. When I use an external monitor is works okay but I travel and need to fix this. The hard drive is only one year old.
Can I purchase a similar computer on Ebay for example and simply insert the hard drive from my computer? I see that there are computers anywhere from $350 to $700.
I'd appreciate any help. I've been trying to work with it for four months now. I've gone to the Genius Bar but they don't offer the flat fee service to repair it.

Yes, you can transfer your hard drive to any mac that uses a 9.5mm hard drive with relative ease. You just need a mini philips screwdriver and a torx screwdriver.

You should look into [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/what-firefox-sync Firefox Sync]. I think it will do everything that you are asking for. This will allow you to have all of your Firefox preferences and settings shared across multiple computers.
You could also create a backup on a USB drive in case of catastrophic failture. I would suggest that you back up your personal information and bookmarks using the article [[Backing up your information]].

Installing Adobe InDesign on replacement computer

I had to replace my computer (new one is an Asus with Windows 8). After uploading my Adobe InDesign software (InDesign 1.5 that worked on replaced computer with Windows XP) the software program opens, etc but refuses to open the template files that I desperately need. There is a choice of files ending in ai, pdf, eps and pdf. It doesn't recognize any of these files.
I can likely open and work with these files in photoshop Cs2 but would prefer to work with InDesign.
Any suggestions? Might it be because the InDesign 1.5 is such old software?

There is every chance the problem could be the age of the software. YOur best bet will be to run the software in compatibility mode and see if that helps.

It's also possible you may have to reinstall photoshop cs5 even after installing the above java, because sometimes the upgrade to mac os x 10.10 messes up the photoshop cs5 installation.

Simplest answer is to download the Trial version, from Adobe's website, of whichever CS6 product you have a serial number for then enter the serial number to convert the trial to a licensed version.

Time Machine to replacement computer

Theoretical question...
Let's say you are using Time Machine to backup your Mac. You have a duplicate copy of the Time Machine backup located offsite as well. Computer is stolen/fire burns it up/etc.
Could you use Time Machine to then sync back what you had with a replacement computer? Or is there more involved?

Replacing Computer - How to set up wit FIOS

I am buying a new replacement computer. How do I set it up to work with the FIOS internet connection. I will not be using my old computer. It is a desktop.

there's two ways to connect. the preferred way to connect is with an ethernet cable - one end goes in your PC and the other end goes into any of the numbered ports (yellow) on the back of your router.
The second way people connect is wireless. go to www.verizon.com/repair and click retreive wifi settings and it will retrieve them automatically or show you where to find the info on your router. You plug in the password that the info retreives for you and you get online wirelessly.
Also if you like the fancy verizon stuff on your pc (not required to connect) then go to http://activatemyfios.verizon.net and do a "set up an additional pc" and it will configure the software for you.
If you had Verizon internet security, then go to www.verizon.com/connect and download the software. once it's downloaded installed and running, look in the notifications and you will see your download link for the antivirus firewall.

Does apple replace the shell of a macbook?

Well, I bought the new aluminum macbook at the beginning of this month. I unfortunately have dropped it and caused a slightly annoying dent, to where I have the battery cover not able to close. I already can guess that this is not covered under warranty, but does anybody know if apple repairs(replaces) the outer shell of the macbooks? If so what is the cost?
The laptop works perfectly fine, I am just disappointed to have ruined the case. I am unable to find the new cases on ifixit.com either.
I have no access to an apple store where I live, I am on a military installation about 400 miles from the closest one.

The "shell" of the new MacBook might be more than you think it is. In these notebooks, it is the main structural support, and also the foundation around which the other components of the computer are secured to. In order to replace this, virtually all the other components of the computer would have to be removed, then re-installed on another "unibody," the term Apple has coined for this lump of aluminum. In other words, it might end up being cheaper to just replace the whole computer, rather than just that part. Templeton Peck said the only way to find out is to call , and I agree. That would be the best way to find out. Also, don't forget to mention that you are in the military (or something to that extent). They may be a little more sympathetic and willing due to the more hostile environment one might find at such an installation. If Apple does go as far as replacing the computer or one of the components, they will take care of shipping and handling, so you won't be making 800 mile round-trips either.

Muse: Needed to replace computer.

Muse: Needed to replace my computer. Copied Muse files all into the 'same place' on the C drive in my new computer. Now most of the assets are marked 'Upload' - notably the several hundred pdf's. Tried relinking several of them to the new folder containing them. Trued to save - but it won't save to the original Muse file. It closes without saving. Tried saving to a new file, but I get the following message:
Adobe Muse has encountered an error and will now exit. Please report the last few actions leading up to this error to the Adobe CC team. Unowned !!Deleted!! UID referenced. UID: U48073 Class no longer in database. (not even in ‘deleted = = true” state).
Can anyone help - I have been building the site for 2 years now. IT has been loaded to Business Catalyst from the old computer, but rather worried about going there in case it f**ks up everything. Please can anyone help?

Replacing computer screen in after effects

Could anyone direct me to some resource to do the following:
I want to replace a green computer screen with a simulated content (like they do in phone advertisements)
However I'm having trouble correctly resizing/aligning/rotating my simulated images to correctly fit the computer screen.
How can I get the two on the same plane?

Here is what it looks like, I'm having a hard time trying to match the two planes in 3d space using the rotation tool. I imagine there might be a way to do this better than manually rotating my image, especially since both the mask I'm using and the graphic are rectangles.
