Replace texture on rendering

I would like to replace texture on rendering with use of UVW channel encoded as RGB.
Is this possible in photoshop?
Here is similar workflow in fusion:
http://research.anatomicaltravel.com/2008/11/simbiontfusion-darktree-procedural-textures-f usion/
(UVW Mapping section)
sorry for my English

Hmm. maybe my explanation is not clear.
Suppose I have rendering from 3d application (2d image - not 3d objects) and UV pass encoded as RGB image.
What I want to do is replace textures on that rendering with use of UV pass. I would like to do this in photoshop.
Here is exactly this process but in nuke:

• Photoshop CS6 Extended Load/Replace Texture Command Issues

In the 3d Materials Panel in Adobe Photoshop Extended CS6, the REPLACE TEXTURE and LOAD TEXTURE commands for the 3d materials seem to create a single "smart" texture that all other textures created via the "replace/load texture" commands link to.
For instance, to texture a sphere using a Photoshop file, I first created a file called "horizontal stripes for 3d peel.psd" and saved it on my desktop.
I went to the Materials Panel>Diffuse>(Clicked icon to right of "Diffuse") and chose "Load Texture>"horizontal stripes for 3d peel.psd," to apply it to my sphere. I then edited this diffuse file by right-clicking the icon to the right of "Diffuse," choosing "Edit" and adding a color layer at the top of the layer stack, then saving (not saving as) and closing the Diffuse .PSB smart object file.
I then loaded a texture to the Opacity material of my sphere using the same Photoshop file on my desktop called "horizontal stripes for 3d peel.psd",
going to Materials Panel>Opacity>(Clicking the icon to the right of "Opacity") and choosing "Load Texture>"horizontal stripes for 3d peel.psd," When I opened this file to edit it by right-clicking the icon to right of "Opacity" and choosing "Edit," I found I'd loaded not the original file on my desktop that I had chosen, but my edited "Diffuse" file. Furthermore, these Diffuse and Opacity files appear not to be independently editable--they behave like linked Smart Objects, and when one is edited, the other is updated with the changes.
Is this a bug? I can't find any mention of this behavior in the Photoshop User Manual. I'm using Windows 7, and I get the same behavior on 2 different computers with Photoshop.
http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/3d-panel-settings-photoshop-extended.html
I had hoped to use the Load/Replace texture command as a quick way to load up independently editable versions of the same file to the different 3d material attributes (opacity, shine, etc.), but that doesn't seem possible. Or is there a better way to do this?
Thanks!
Jeff Combs

Postscript:
I just started working with Extruded 3d shapes, and 3d text, and, as it turns out, this is actually a dandy feature, since these 3d objects each contain multiple elements to apply textures to (ex. Front Inflation Material, Front Bevel Material, Extrusion Material, etc.) that would be pain to edit individually, rather than via a single Smart Layer, especially if you plan to use the same materials for each.
So, anyway, onwards to more adventures as I climb the Photoshop 3d learning curve. I've been a wee-bit frustrated that this learning curve seems to be more difficult because the Adobe Photoshop_CS6 reference PDF file seems to reference mostly CS5 and, more often than not, references CS5 interfaces. For instance, in the CS6 manual—the sections on 3d concepts and Tools, 3d Panel Settings, 3D rendering and saving—to name a few—all explicitly refer to Photoshop CS5 Extended! So, if anyone knows of a detailed source of CS6 information, I’d be grateful.

• Replacement for 'Style Rendering' toolbar in CC?

I understand the style rendering toolbar was removed in CC.
Is there some replacement feature I'm not finding that will display a page as styled for print? (Besides using the browser print preview?)
If not: Will a replacement be added to CC 'Real Soon Now', as the saying goes?

This user to user forum cannot give you an answer.

• Downgrade to only rendered data, and discard RAW data

I'm an amateur photographer, just learning the ropes, and as such I shoot a lot of images that I want to keep, but not all of them are good enough that I would want to keep the RAW data. Sometimes a JPEG would do just fine, since from a photography POV the image is lousy, but from a personal POV it tells a significant story. Still other "Picks" in the same collection would turn out great, and I would like to keep the RAW data.
I could just export the less important images as JPEGs and delete them from Lightroom, but I have come to like Lightroom's library management.
Also, I shoot RAW+JPEG and I use the "Delete rejected photos" (Command-Backspace) a lot, but that does not delete the JPEGs. Leaving a lot of files. I would much prefer not having to use delete them in a another program, but having some option to delete the JPEGs as well when "delete rejected photos" or simply not importing them would be great.
Please forgive me if this has been requested before, I went through a lot of feature request to find a similar request.
By the way, Lightroom rocks a lot more than Aperture on a MacBook, great interface, and good performance. Thank you!
Best regards
Hans Duedal

RAW+JPEG shots imports only the RAW to Lr but stores both the RAW and JPEG on the hard drive. Don't really know why I shoot RAW+JPEG though, guess I should stop doing that.
I could not get the transfer to external media tip to work:
> if you choose to remove the photos, copy them to the hard disk and click the question mark on the thumbnails to reconnect the thumbnails to the archived images now on the hard disk, even if they are in a different location on the hard disk.
I don't see a question mark on the thumbnails not when i use the remove photos in Lr, or just removing the files in the finder (os).
I should really ask why I can't get that to work in the general forum.
Moving the images to an external disc or other storage media is a good idea, and that might be the way I will go about this, but keep in mind the idea I outlined.
Imagine a collection of photos in Lr. All photos are in DNG format. Half of these you want to keep but don't need the raw data goodness. You press ie. "Convert DNG to JPEG". The DNG is replaced with a rendered JPEG. In my case saving about 5 MBs of space pr image.

• Rendering from Premiere Pro Dynamic Link vs After Effects = fast vs slow?

So I'm doing graphics for a show using a fake 3D look in Adobe After Effects CC 2014.1. In segment 1 there are about 30 fonts that display for about 3-4 seconds each. Technically it's just a bunch of 2D layers of text, not a real tricky or intensive thing.
In my Premiere timeline, things render pretty quickly in the sequence. The show is composed of RED R3D 6K files, AJA KiPro quicktime files and some AVCHD stuff. Sequence timeline is 1080i29.97 for broadcast delivery. The sequence is rendering out to ProRes422 HQ. With no graphics, even the RED 6K files render out snappy. So I've brought these new graphics in as a Dynamic Link file. When I try to render out the graphics things get SUPER slow. Inordinately so. I don't get it. I thought the new "Render and Replace" would speed things up (great feature) however that seems to make things just as slow. So now I'm rendering out of After Effects the old fashioned way (each font is a 10 second file or so) with an alpha channel. I chose the 8-bit Cineform codec w/ alpha channel. Things rendered out, as expected, very quickly. A few minutes and all 42 fonts I built were done.
So what I don't get is why render and replace is so much slower than manually rendering straight out from After Effects CC 2014.1. Based on the time stamps from a "render and replace" process I did overnight - it took about 6 hours to render out a handful of graphics. I rendered out twice the amount straight from After Effects CC 2014.1 this morning in like 5-10 minutes. Isn't render & replace basically just rendering stuff out straight from After Effects (or AME) in the background and then just popping it in your timeline? If that's what is supposed to be happening, I don't understand the discrepancy in time. I'll bring the rendered out files into Premiere and see how quickly that video renders over the original video.
I just wanted to throw this out there to see if I'm missing some obvious thing or if this is as expected behavior.

• Patch tool just blends, doesn't replace

I've seen tutorials about the patch tool, but my patch tool doesn't appear to do what the tutorials do...
I've read other threads about how this tool is supposed to blend near the edges to give a good result, but this is blending the whole thing. I've already deleted my prefs file by starting photoshop with ctrl alt shift pressed. I've also reset the tool. These screenshots were taken immediately after opening photoshop cs4 and deleting the prefs file. Can anyone tell me what to do to use the patch tool like it's shown? I'm not as interested in alternate methods to achieve the same result -- I've already used the clone stamp tool to do the job. But why doesn't my patch tool seem to work the way it should?

Curt Y - there are two options for the patch tool 'source' and 'destination'. You seem to be confused
Bruderbell, the patch tool works this way - it analyses areas OUTSIDE the selected area to make its decisions as to what to use to replace texture and color. Because your area it on the edge of the canvas, the only pixel data it has are your dark pixels. Its working correctly
To sort out your problem, start with the Clone Tool, make a loose clone over of the dark area. Then use the healing brush or the patch tool to make the transitions smoother, and eiliminate any tonal errors. With a little practice you will be able to achieve a perfect heal this way

• Randomly corrupted atf texture

I'm trying to render single fullscreen atf texture. And it is rendered corrupted sometimes (repro 4/10).
Only happens if texture is less then 256x256 size (128x128 for example) and has transparency.
Have somebody encountered same problem?
Or is there some atf texture requirements I am missing?

• Color Correction for Web

This is sort of a generic post questions. I am working on a project for the web. My final output will be to Digibeta. How do others approached color correcting in this situation? Being the computer monitors generally have such different characteristics than a traditional TV. In the past I correct as if I was going to air but this sometimes makes the online videos over saturated and contrasty. I realize there is really no web standard yet but wonder if anyone out there does a lot of web stuff that has any tips.

sRGB is the recommended color space for internet application.<

You'd need to provide some documentation to support that statement.
sRGB is not necessarily meaningful beyond photographic applications. sRGB was designed to roughly reproduce color regardless of local profiling. The sRGB standard was created in 1996 to, among other things, create a smaller number of colors to increase the likelihood of correct reproduction in printing photographs, The mere presence of Microsoft on the list of supporting companies is reason enough to be skeptical.
http://www.computerworld.com/action/article.do?command=viewArticleBasic&articleI d=67719
When an RGB image from a high-end scanner or other device is imported into an SRGB environment, however, some color information is lost. What SRGB offers is a lowest-common-denominator view of images in business applications and on Web sites.<

This from the wiki:
As the recommended color space for the Internet, sRGB should be used for editing and saving all images intended for publication to the WWW. Images intended for professional printing via a fully color-managed workflow, e.g., prepress output sometimes use another color space such as Adobe RGB (1998), which allows for a wider gamut.
Images intended for the Internet and created in one of the other color spaces may be converted to sRGB when editing, using a suitable editing program, e.g., Paint Shop Pro or Adobe Photoshop; ideally, the original non-sRGB file should be saved and the conversion to sRGB done on a copy, as some loss of image information occurs when converting to another color space.
Due to the standardization of sRGB on the Internet, on computers, and on printers, many low- to medium-end consumer digital cameras and scanners use sRGB as the default (or only available) working color space. Used in conjunction with an inkjet printer, an sRGB image produces what is often regarded as satisfactory for home use. However, consumer-level camera LCDs are typically uncalibrated, meaning that even though the image is being labelled as sRGB, one can't conclude that the image is color-accurate on the LCD.
The two dominant programming interfaces for 3D graphics, OpenGL and Direct3D, have both incorporated sRGB. OpenGL 2.1 incorporates sRGB textures first introduced by the EXTtexturesRGB extension. OpenGL's EXTframebuffersRGB extensionsupports rendering into framebuffers assuming either a linear or sRGB color space. DirectX 9 supports sRGB textures and rendering into sRGB surfaces using Direct3D.<

Anyone can help me tracing in which package the missing file is located (if it's not in compiz-core)?
Last edited by dexgeh (2012-10-16 17:58:39)

I managed to solve the issue commenting the --indirect-rendering flag and installing and launching driconf to create a default ~/.drirc file.
I just noticed that in the same upgrade I got intel-dri from 8.x to 9.x version, maybe it's related.
Launching a terminal in .xinitrc and manually launching
LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose compiz --debug --replace ccp
show me a lot of errors, but it's working, and I don't need anymore the --indirect-rendering flag (in the past I put that flag in the command because of the bad performance that compiz had without).

• How to display the current time in a UIX page

Hi All,
another UIX question....
A requirement of a customer is to display to current data and time in every page.
It should be done in a
. So i'm writing a new (template based) renderer for that element. How can i display the current time and date on it?
Thanks in advance for any help...
Regards,
Robert Willems

Hi Robert -
When you say you are writing a template-based Renderer, do you mean that you are creating a custom look and feel and replacing the header Renderer? If so, I'd recommend instead simply creating your own template (not template-based Renderer), and reference your template directly from your uiXML pages where you want to insert the timestamp.
You'll probably want to write a method data provider which calls System.currentTime(), convert the result to a date, and then use Java's date formatting capabilities (see java.text.format.DateFormat) to produce a user presentable String that you can return from your data provider.

• How to do a TableCellRenderer with Windows XP Look'n Feel ?

In my application i use a sortable JTable view. In order to visualize the sorted column selected by user interaction i wrote my own TableCellRenderer implemantation to feature this with an icon in the table header which shows an arrow symbol for ascending or descending sort order. In addition to that i installed a handler which underlines the header label when the user hovers over a header column with the mouse. This all works perfectly but now i challenged the following problem: The application works in a Microsoft Windows XP environment and uses the corresponding XP Look'n Feel (available since Java SDK 1.4.2). The entire application makes uses of this specific
Look'n Feel but as i use a userdefined TableCellRenderer the table outlook is the one of the 'old' default windows Look'n Feel not the one of Windows XP. If i use the default renderer all looks what it should look like but the enhanced sorting and hover capabilities get lost.
My question: How do i combine the xp look with my enhanced table header features ?
I had a look at com.sun.java.swing.plaf.windows.WindowsTableHeaderUI and there's an embedded inner class named XPDefaultRenderer which makes use of the xp skinning technology and paints the correct xp like border. Unfortunately this class is declared private and the com.sun.java.swing.plaf.windows.XPStyle which is being used inside is package private. So no chance to implement a userdefined swing component that features the xp Look'n Feel.
Is this whole thing organized like that to fulfill copyright restictions in relation to the xp Look'n Feel which should stay unmodified ? Or is there another chance to get the userdfined renderer to feature the correct Look'n Feel ? At the moment the table header doesn't fit in the Look'n Feel at all which is annoying. Is there a solution ? Please help if you know any possible way to solve this. Thank you.

Just a followup on the missing mouse-over effect and the bad sizing of
XP table headers in 1.4.2. These problems are covered by bug reports:

• Imovie slideshow image quality problems

I have created a slideshow in imove with music of a wedding my wife and I shot. For some reason the image quality is really poor. I tried going through idvd and I tried exporting it as a quicktime movie and burning it with toast but they both look crappy on the tv when we watch them. Please help because I need to get it out to the clients.
I have done this once before and I did have some problems but somehow got the quality we wanted. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Wayne Sawyer

If some slides show a lot of "jaggies" the project may have been affected by a long-standing bug in iMovie that adds jaggies to photos when you share the project with iDVD. If we grant permission for iMovie to render the images when sending the project to iDVD, it messes them up pretty badly.
If that's what happened, you'll need to re-import those images to replace the badly-rendered clips.

• Setting font style on hover for spark datagrid

I'm trying to skin a Spark datagrid. I have most things sorted by creating a custom skin, but one thing I can't find is how to set the colour of the row's font on hover. I can set the background colour fine, but how would I go about changing the font colour when a user hovers over the row?
Thanks

Hi
You don’t actually deal with the text that’s displayed in the a datagrid inside of the skin
Look at item renderers for the grid columns. You can style your text or whatever else you would like to display in the grid, in the renderer
Hope that helps a little
If you are still stuck just let me know and I’ll send you some code
Cheers
g
heres some code
NOTE: I am making this up as I sit here so I may be forgetting something. Don’t be surprised if this doesn’t work, but the basic idea is right I think
So in the spark datagrid when you set your column (if you use mxml) this will replace a glob renderer so you can have a different one for each column if you wish.
<s:GridColumn dataField="Status"
headerText="name"
width="37"
itemRenderer="fooRenderer"
/>
Or set a gloabel renderer in the grid def itself
<s:DataGrid itemRenderer=”fooRenderer” />
Then write a custom renderer: fooRenderer.mxml

<s:GridItemRenderer xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"
xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx"
clipAndEnableScrolling="true"
>
<fx:Script>

override public function discard(willBeRecycled:Boolean):void
labelData.text="";
super.discard(willBeRecycled);
override public function prepare(hasBeenRecycled:Boolean):void
if(data)
// set the colour of the text label to black
labelData.setStyle("color",0x000000)
// put some logic here to dynamic style the label
//check for the 'format' function on the column (THIS MAY BE WRONG)
if( column.labelFunction != null )
labelData.text = column.labelFunction( data, column );
else
labelData.text = data[column.dataField];
super.prepare(hasBeenRecycled);

</fx:Script>
<s:Label id="labelData" />

• Can't export a sequence

I have a 45 min Long HDV sequence and when I try to export it with quick time conversion set at DVPRO NTSC it immediately say General Error with no number, and the canvas window turns solid red and say "Display unavailable. Close and reopen window to restore."
I seem to be able to play the sequences with no problems. Other sequences in the project exported fine. When I try to export the sequence using Compressor or QT export it gets about half way through and FCP crashes. I trashed preferences but it still does not work. What's going on?
Vince

It might be possible that some portion of media or render file is corrupted,
render files could be deleted and replaced by new renders.
Should you trash renders do so using Render Manager (manual III-673), which can be found in FCP main menu>Tools>Render Manager.
If instead some corruption of the original media has occurred you need to find the corrupted file.
Set in and out on portions of your sequence and try export again to see if a specific portion produces the general error again.
Finally did you try exporting as QT movie reference (self-contained unchecked)?
Hope that helps,
G.
