Replaced 2008 DC, now remote systems are slow to browse network

I just replaced our DC that also served as one of several DNS servers.  All FSMO roles were transferred to the new DC before demoting.
After doing so, the majority of our remote sites (connected via site-to-site VPN), can no longer access the UNC path of the file server also located in each remote site, and if they can, it is extremely slow.  However, this isn't happening to every
remote site.  Affected sites are also unable to access UNC path via IP address, although nslookup/pings resolve normally.  The temporary workaround is to remove all affected systems from the domain.  As soon as those machines are removed from
the domain and rebooted, accessibility to these paths returns instantly.

What did you replace your 2008 DCs with?
Are you using WINS?
Transferring FSMOs wouldn't have anything to do with this. FSMOs are operational role holders that perform tasks for the domain and forest, and do not have anything to do with speed or authentication. However, I've seen slowness occur due to authentication
issues, especially with older operating systems and apps.
I've also seen issues with the TCP Chimney that can cause slowness.
TCP Chimney and RSS Feature May Cause Slow File Transfers or Cause Connectivity Problems
Published by Ace Fekay, MCT, MVP DS on Aug 20, 2009 at 12:44 AM, Updated 10/26/2014
http://blogs.msmvps.com/acefekay/2009/08/19/tcp-chimney-and-rss-features-may-cause-slow-file-transfers-or-cause-connectivity-problems/
And if you replaced the DCs with 2012 or newer, you will also want to inventory your applications to make sure that nothing is using NTLM v1 or LANMAN, which no longer be supported in Windows 2012 R2.  So if you have any older apps that are using the
older authentication methods, they may no longer work.

MY iPad 2 is extremely slow when trying to brows the Internet.  Loading a webpage takes way longer than my iPhone and both are connected to a high speed wireless internet. all updates are current. Any help?

If you have not already tried, try this.

Tap on "Clear History and Website Data".
In the pop-up that shows up, tap on "Clear History and Website Data".
    Launch  Safari and test.

  • Backupeventlog not working for remote system in PowerShell

I have the following code snippet that works if I specify localhost or the name of the local computer, but does not work if set to a remote server. I am running the script as Administrator using my Domain Admin account. Both local and remote systems
are Windows Server 2012 and in the same domain. PowerShell version = 3.0.

    [parameter(Mandatory=$true,ValueFromPipeline=$true)]

Write-Host "ERROR: unable to event logs from $Server."
    } Else {
    Write-Host "Backing $Server."
    $EventLog.backupeventlog("$OutputFolder\$Server.evtx")

After spending some more time troubleshooting this and doing some more research I found the link below. I found it strange the hoops the author went through to handle event logs on remote systems until I realized that the path for "backupeventlog"
is relative to the remote system, not the system running the script. So I checked the other systems and found that the event log backups had been created. This would explain the returnvalue of 80. What's worse is that the path for "backupeventlog"
    can't be a UNC -- I tried, it didn't work.
Back Up Your Event Logs with a Windows PowerShell Script
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-ca/magazine/2009.07.heyscriptingguy.aspx
I decided to re-read Microsoft's documentation and found the magical text that I had over-looked:
BackupEventlog method of the Win32_NTEventlogFile class
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa384808(v=vs.85).aspx
In addition, you must make backups to the local computer; you cannot save a backup of the event logs on Computer A to Computer B. Backups are implemented by using the LocalSystem account, which does not have the network credentials necessary to access remote
computers. If you want to save backups to a central repository, modify the script to first perform the backup, and then move the backup file to the central repository.

  • Mac painfully slow over mixed network SMB/CIFS

I am using a Mac mini over a mixed office network. Several network operations are painfully slow. I posted a previous topic when I was using my G5 over the same network. Nothing has been resolved. G5, Mac mini or any Mac are slow over the network.
-photo previews take at least 2 minutes each to view while on a PC the whole drive of previews are instantly seen.
    - Entourage common network calendar takes 5-10 minutes to view/update while the same common calender on a PC takes a few short seconds.
    - Browsing folders on network drives is slow.
    - Transfering files is slow
Basically any work done over the network from the Mac is tediously slow. Burning CD's and hand carry the files to other offices would be faster. The PC's instead all work fine over the network.

This looks very interesting and worth looking into. I've got the info in the hands of our net administrator.
I am making progress. I switched the mac mini from ethernet to airport. That has helped dramatically. A folder of 175 mb that was going to take hours and hours to copy to my local drive (I finally gave up) only took about 2-3 minutes over wireless. Previews of photos now happen in a few short seconds. The Entourage common calendar still takes a while to upload but that's probably an Entourage issue.
Our network administrator is going to string new cable to my office and we'll check the switching as well.
Thanks everyone for your continued help as we solve this issue and rescue the Mac's reputation in a windows environment.
This sounds alot like a duplexing issue, whereby
your macs are connecting eventually to a switch, that
isn't properly auto-negotiating your ethernet speed.
You can try going into the Network preferences and
forcing your mac to either 100 full duplex or 100
half duplex and do some testing. Some Bay
Network and Cisco switches must be set (if they are
managed switches) for fastpath operation where they
will autonegotiate better with equipment like our
Broadcom manufactured network interface cards. I
had the same issue at home with a Netgear switch, I
replaced it with a Dell gigabit switch and the
    problem went away.

  • Slow Web Browsing

So Ive only been with Bt Infity 1 mainly because it was cheaper as it now includes National Geographic HD and Discovery Channel HD channel.  I was always a bit worried about moving away from Virgin Media Fibre..
If I go to a speed check site like http://www.speedtest.net/ it takes about 10 seconds to load just the intro page.!
There is a notcible lag The actually speed check is good it says 27.88 Mbps Download and 6.8Mbps Upload and a ping rate of 34ms.
So I assumed it might be a DNS issue so ive started to use Open DNS IP addressed which seem to resolve the issue for aday.
Now all sites are slow to load ..I suspect there is something running on BTs network possible BT are using some kind of proxy chaching..
The same happends on my Andriod Samsung Galaxy S5 using chrome or IE on my laptop as well.

I would like to change this topic to UNSOLVED.
So webpages are running really slow ... on ever site now I can see Goolge Chrome is trying to load the webpage.
You can look at the page loading prgress in the bottom left hand corner. Somes the pages never fully load and I get the round circle loading icon which Google Chrome does.
I never has this problem with Virgin Media!
I am connected to my router via ethernet cable and its still doing it.
It seems to have only recently get worse.
Its consistently trying to resolve host so it would point towards a DNS issue.
I dont want to phone the BT Support team as I would rather speak to someone in England.
I maybe consider canceling my contract due to it not been fir for purpose. Its a joke

  • I have a macbook pro 4,1 early 2008 model running on 10.6.8 snow leopard was wondering if upgrading to moutain lion will make my system run slow?

MBP 4,1 running 10.6.8 snowleopard and it runs great but i was wondering if upgrading to moutain lion will make run slower?

Lion is still available but you have to Call Apple to order it and then they send you a Redemtion Code to your Apple ID Email address that you use on the Mac App Store to download it.
But in all honesty even Lion is going to make your system run slower then it now does. Lion, like Mt Lion, uses more system resources then Snow Leopard. I can see the difference on my 2011 MBP with 8GBs of RAM and a fairly fast hard drive. Snow Leopard boots and runs faster then Lion and more so then Mt Lion.
What you need is a New or Newer MBP. If that is not an option then the only thing I can say is give Lion a try. That is AFTER you do a complete Time Machine Backup of your current Snow Leopard install just in case you need to go back.
By the way Apple replaced the Logic board in your system with the same Faulty NVidia chip install in it. Apple Never Updated the NVidia chip used on those logic boards. So odds are sometime in the future, Near or Far, that board will fail again.

The battery for my macbook pro 13 says "service battery".  Now I want to get a replacement but the reviews for it are horrible! Does anybody have any suggestions? I don't want to spend 130 dollars on something I'm going to have to replace in less than a year (which is what normally I been reading)  I do design work and I take my mac everywhere.  Having to always look for a plug or having to be constantly plugged in doesn't sound ideal to me.  Please help me. what should I do???

Why does it matter if it a scam????? I'll let you figure that out by yourself.  If I'm going to replace it, why should I be contempt with a battery that I have to replace within months (as stated by some people in the comments). The issue here is not if I should or not replace it OBVIOUSLY I'm going to have to before it starts going crazy.  The underlying issue is why is the replacement battery for a lack of better words " a bit crap."  It comes with a 3 month guarantee?? Is that a joke?!??!?! Some people complained it malfunction after only 8- 9 months? I'm sorry but as an Apple fan I think it's absolutely rubbish. I know there is no magic cure I'm just hoping someone shines the light on how crappy this replacement is.

  • After several years of use very satisfied with Firefox, recently loaded version (4.0.1) severely slows my browsing, and even my system, especially when there are pictures or videos. I said that this was not the case before and my system is Windows XP SP3.

After several years of use very satisfied with Firefox, recently loaded version (4.0.1) severely slows my browsing, and even my system, especially when there are pictures or videos. I said that this was not the case before and my system is Windows XP SP3.

I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.

  • Yesterday all web sites were fine, now some websites are fine, some are slow, some do not look correctly

I am using a Dell inspiron 1525, running Windows XP, Firefox 5.0 both OS and Firefox have the latest patches and fixes applied. Yesterday all websites were loading, responding and appearing properly. Today some are working properly and some are slow and do not appear correctly. No updates were applied in the last three days. To make matters even more confusing, When I us IE, the sites work correctly. I believe it is something with this laptop because Firefox 5.0 works just fine with all sites on a different machine which runs Windows 7. I tried re-installing Firefox 5.0, going back to 4.0.2, 4.0.1, all resulting in the same outcome. I ran a virus scan and nothing was found.
Any insight you can provide would be appreciated.

    Hello Mark Malecki,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
I understand you are having some issues with iTunes on your MacBook. You may want to isolate the issues further by testing to see if they persist in a new user account:

You can also try starting iTunes in safe mode:
