Replacing the built-in battery

How long before the battery needs replacement? I heard I must return it to an Apple Store. Since this is my only phone, what am I supposed to do in the meantime? Does Apple lend me a new phone to use? I also heard that all my stored data will be lost, including my 2,000 photos as well as stored numbers, messages, etc. Why couldn't it be made so the owner simpley replaces the battery? Maybe they don't want us having access to the inside. Is there also a replaceable SIMS card there, too?

I don't even no where to begin here...first, quit worrying...you'll be replacing your phone before the battery dies. I've got an original iPhone from 2007...the battery is still going strong. Further, most of the info you've heard is simply false. Enjoy your phone & find something else to worry about.

Tanks dominic23, do you think that the dead battery can affect the macbook performance? I do alot of video work, and since the battery died i cannot do a smooth preview of my videos in premiere cs6, seems like a memory problem but it worked fine before the battery issue.

    Resetting the Logic Board
Resetting the logic board can resolve many system problems. Whenever you have a
unit that fails to power up, you should follow this procedure
    before replacing any modules.
    1 Unplug the computer.
2 Press the Power On button on the front of the unit.
3 Open the side access panel.
4 Remove the battery from the logic board.
5 Wait at least 10 minutes before replacing the battery.
6 Make sure the battery is installed in the correct +/-
    direction.
7 Reassemble the computer and test the unit.

  • Can not replace the built in XSL Transformations

I have a web app which uses Xalan (2.3.1++) runnin on 7.0.0.1. It runs fine in
WL 6.1 using the weblogic transformer. However, when porting it to 7.0 I keep
getting exceptions such below. What worries me is that I have replaced the XML
Registry (see attached file) with the actual xalan classes.
Are there other steps to replace the registry?

The web controller lists cameras that are bound to Podcast Producer. It cannot list ad-hoc sources, which usually includes the built-in iSight camera. If you were to bind your camera to Podcast Producer using the Podcast Capture application, it will show up in the web controller.

  • Replacing the built in Superdrive

Is my understanding correct that if I replace my old optical superdrive with a newer internal DVD+/-RW drive that it needs to be compatible with OSX to run seemlessly in the finder and apps like iTunes & iPhoto? In other words I prefer not to have to use a 3rd party burn software.
I have the G4 Quicksilver with a Superdrive that doesn't seem to support the current DVD-R media.

My friend had an spare Plextor 8x DVD drive that we swapped in to my internal drive bay. It seemed to have a problem with RW media, but +R & -R worked fine, able to burn my iPhoto library directly from the application.
The drive must be supported as it's info shows up in the System Profiler. We're still not sure why it wasn't happy with the RW media, but I've heard RW's can be unstable.

  • Lenovo S430 - disable built-in battery permanently?

    Hi!
just got my S430 this week. i love it except the built in battery.
i use it at home mostly so its plugged into the ac all the time.
I wonder if I could disable the battery so it won't be charging 24/7. dont really want that as it'll kill the battery.
or are there any set up in the power management to take the load off the battery?
    thx in advance~
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

won't be possible, unless you physically disconnect the battery. Also with the Lenovo Thinkvantage battery charger, you can set the charge threshold rate, so the battery won't charge all the time even if you are connected to the AC (the biggest benefits of Lenovo ThinkPad machine).

  • Replacing the zip drive with the dvd-ram

I've replaced the built in DVD-RAM with DVD burner.
I have a zip drive too. Can I to replace the zip drive with the DVD-RAM?
    Thanks

    Hi, mikmik -
Unless your G4 is a G4 MDD model, doing that is not easy at all.
The bay for the Zip drive on all G4's earlier than an MDD model is considerably smaller than a standard drive bay, which is what an optical drive needs.
Open your case and take a look at the relative sizes of the upper optical drive bay and the lower Zip drive bay.
In order to put replace the Zip drive with an optical drive you would need to do a fair amount of surgery on the frame. It has been done; here's a pictorial step-by-step by one fellow who did that to a B&W G3 -
    http://www.shanescot.com/photos/BW_mod/
The work needed on a G4 would be very similar to that.

  • 15 inch built-in battery

    Hi all,
I have a few questions for you regarding the macbook pro:
1- Can I have your thoughts on when the built-in battery will be implemented to the 15 inch MBP? I myself think that it could become an addition when 10.6 is released.
2- I am about to go back to uni and want to buy the 15 inch MBP, do you all think I should wait until 10.6 is released, and if so, when do you all think it is coming? I am more inclined to wait until 10.6 comes out to see if the built-in battery comes with it, because I could use the extra battery life.
    Thanks.

    1. We don't know. You'll know if and when Apple releases it.
    2. We only know that 10.6 is supposed to be released this year. We don't know if or when. If you wish to wait that's entirely your prerogative.
We cannot speculate about Apple's future products or software releases as it's strictly forbidden on the Discussions.

  • My iphone 4s is over 2 years old and I need to replace the battery. How much will this cost at an Apple store?

I have an iphone 4s that is  over 2 years old. The phone's battery is no longer able to hold a  charge for an acceptable length of time.  Assuming I need to replace the battery, how much will this cost at an Apple store?

    graciebethgrant wrote:
Basically, I'm new to Apple, despite using them before, but I've never actually owned my own.
Since buying this phone off a colleague at work, I seem to be having problems with it. First, I noticed how rubbish the battery life is, then my charger almost went up in flames and thirdly my camera lense is scratched beyond belief.
I know the phone isn't within warranty, although I was lead to believe it was before and during buying it, so basically I'm extremely disappointed with the general make up of iPhone's considering they cost such a **** of a lot of money, you'd think they'd be built to last.
Back to my main point, how much would it cost for a new battery? Or a new camera lense if anyone can help me with that? (I know that the back of the phone was refurbished just before my buying it, so literally just the camera lense)
    Thanks!
So basically it sounds like you bought an abused used iPhone and somehow that makes the phone subpar because dispite the abuse it should still last forever and look like new? Batteries don't last forever, even under ideal conditions, so your expectatoins are unrealistic. Take it in and have an estimate done.

Not sure if I'm following you. I have 4 hard drives installed on my Mac Pro. I had a RAID 5 configured and functional for about 5 months. My battery died on the RAID card. I replaced the battery, seated the RAID card back in the slot I removed it from. When I booted to the USB drive to look in the RAID utility, I could see the battery is charged but my volumes are not showing.
The drives don't show in disk Utility. I built the RAID with the RAID Utility and they did show there. I have a early 2008 Mac Pro, Mavricks OS running Mac Server

  • "Built In " battery ... what is the best way to deal with it ?

Hi ... I just bought this laptop envy6-1100se with a built in battery and I actually heard alot of diffrent opinions about the best way to deal with the battery and charging and I don't know what to trust to make my batterylife the longest   so hope u can help me with that .. I want to know also if there is any damage to the battery if I kept it plugged to Ac Power even after it's totally charged ... ??

You want to minimize the number of charge/discharge cycles so yes it is actually a real good idea to have it plugged in whenever you can. Just to illustrate, Samsung makes several models with integrated batteries and they actually have a setting in the BIOS where you can choose to cut off charging at 80% battery power. If it never goes above 80%, then discharging and charging below the 80% level never registers as a cycle. The battery has a smart chip that counts cycles. After a certain number, say 500, the battery will no longer work. This is to minimize the fire hazard from older Li-ion batteries. In other words, you trade runtime on a "full" charge for longevity of the battery. You might go from 5 hours to 4 on a single charge but the battery will last 4 years instead of two and a half. The battery can actually be replaced but it is a huge pain. The "Samsung" solution is not available on HP's that I have been able to determine.
So, as I said there is not much you can do except use AC power as much as possible and treat the battery like your life savings; use it sparingly.
And I recognize that when it comes to batteries on laptops, it is like a discussion of religion. There is more than one respectable opinion but this is mine.

  • I have had a third generation iPod touch for three years. It's worked fine sice recent,y when it started looseing battery very fast and every apo including the built in ones like mail and photos have been crashing after about five. I uses of use!!!!

I have a third generation iPod touch. It's worked just fine until recently. The battery goes out very very very fast. But the main  issue is that all my apps (which is why I use the iPod, to play them) crash after using them for 5 minutes, this does include the built in apps like photos and calendar ect.. I have had this for about 3 years and love it very much it's not damaged at all. I Have taken very good are of it . Is it time for a new iPod or can I fix it please help!!!! Thanks!!

The battery can be replaced: http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=servicefaq&geo=United_States&product=ipod
As far as crashing apps, it may or may not be related to the battery life. I suggest the usual "restart, restore" routine: http://www.apple.com/support/ipodtouch/assistant/ipodtouch/
