Replaying of Data in Diadem

Is it possible to Replay a datafile in Diadem like we can do in LabVIEW Environment?
And while creating a Dataplugin using VB Script, if my datafile contains data of Double data type then how to make declaration for that?

please try the attached 'waveform viewer' to be used in DIAdem. Unzip the attached archive and run te wf_display.VBS script. It will add three additional buttons to your VIEW toolbar.
Use the button in the middle to create a new waveform viewer in VIEW, drag&drop one or more waveforms into the upper waveform graph. Use the left and right arrow keys to see the samples of a single shot in the lower waveform graph.

Plotting data in diadem via LV

Is it possible to plot data in diadem by specifying the x and y axes values from LV at runtime? I am looking for a solution something like:
1. Load data into Diadem(give the command from LV).
2. Load layout into diadem(give the command from LV).
3. Specify the channels to be plotted from LV.
4. Plot data
5. Stop

Please can you have a look at this piece of example code, I think it does what you have requested.
You will need to build up a customised array to insert the different channels. You will also need to know the name of your axis system in DIAdem, you can find this by hovering over the axis system in the report view of DIAdem and looking in the status bar at the bottom left of the application window.

Can NI deliver a data interpreter for loading DASYLAB data into DIADEM?

It is my understanding that DasyLab has the ability to write DIAdem *.DAT files. This I have gathered from the fact that US customers have sent me *.DAT data files generated by their DasyLab version, in which several properties are called by their German names. So I assume the DasyLab *.DAT file output was originally written for a German audience, but the data made it over just fine. I suppose that could have been a special feature of their particular DasyLab, but check if you can output *.DAT files with yours. If not, please write back.

Pivoting date data in Diadem - summarising data by grouping

Hi,
Is there a way to summarise date data in Diadem?
For example, if I have a file with the following headings:
Date/time, on/off, duration
The Date/time column is recordrded in date, hours and seconds,
the on/off is either 1 or 0
duration is the difference in time values when on/off is 1.
Is there a way to summarise the date data by day or possibly by month? (The corresponding numbers in 'duration' would need to be assigned to the appropriate day or month)?
The equivalent calculation tool would be a pivot table in Excel.

Thank you for your prompt response.
I have attached a file in the code section with some data. (Apologies for this, but the NI website said the content did not match the filetype). (I will try and get this right and send the attachement as an excel file. DIADEM should be able to read in the text file).
The columns are as follows: Event, Date,Time,Duration On,State.
(please note 1) that in the 'event' column there are 5 boilers - good for pivoting once grouped per boiler,
2) that 'State' is either a save or a bypass - also good for pivoting i.e. which days and boilers were in bypass, and which days and boilers were in save)
I would like to be able to summarise the data as follows:
Show a period(group by month or year) the sum of the Duration On, then display the result on a monthly histogram showing for example daily Duration On vs date.
Then
on an annual histogram showing for example monthly Duration On vs month.
As the last part of the exercise, how can I break out doing the 2 steps about for each of the 5 seperate boilers and show when each of the boilers were in a save or a bypass?
(Is a pivot table in excel required or can all the data processing be done in DIADEM?)
I appreciate your assistance in resolving this issue.

Why replay history data from NI-DAQ buffer?

LabVIEW 8.6.1f1, NI-DAQ 8.8, Win Vista, two cDAQ chassis. (I can't move to LV09 or LV10 for this, not yet anyway).
I have a client with two cDAQ banks, each with 16 TC channels (on 4 modules) and 16 voltage channels (on 1 module), 64 channels all told.
The config operation is like this:
This is called twice, with TC CHANNELS and V CHANNELS describing the channel arrangement. Both channel descriptors are the same except for device number. The Sample rate works out to 1000 / 100 = 10 Hz. I am using CONTINUOUS SAMPLES, with no need for a buffer, but I understand that one is created anyway.
One loop of my main program is waiting on the READ function:

After reading the data (at 10 Hz), each frame is sent via UDP to somewhere, and every 5th frame is displayed, via another loop.
This program runs 24/7 on the same computer as another program.
All this works fine in normal circumstances.
However, occasionally, a weirdness creeps in:
In the mornings, after waking the screensaver (or the CPU itself, I'm not sure), we sometimes (not every time) get a very rapid display - the displays are changing much faster than the expected 2 Hz.
I've been wondering whether the data shown was historical, or simply faster updates of live data.
Today, it so happened that a blower was turned on just before waking the computer. The device takes 15 seconds to ramp from zero up to operating pressure normally, and then it stays there.
The readings on screen were frozen (unchanging). When the computer was awakened, what my client saw was the reading for the blower pressure ramp from zero to running pressure in 2-3 seconds, stay there for 2-3 seconds, drop quickly to zero for 4-5 seconds, and start the ramp again.
Over and over and over it replayed this data, way faster than 2 Hz. At least 40 times it replayed this same data, while the real pressure was just variations around the operating pressure. As time went on, instead of dropping to zero, it would drop to some point on the ramp up and repeat from there.
I don't know if it would eventually straighten itself out - the client gives up and restarts the program. All is well after that.
I've gone over my code several times, and I can't see a mechanism for me to store this data and re-play it.
Here's my best guess as to what's happening:
Since I am not explicitly setting the buffer size, it defaults to 1000 samples.
Since I'm running at 10 Hz, 1000 samples = 100 sec.
At some point, because of the screensaver, or because of CPU sleepage, or because of integer rollover, or because of zombie infiltration during the night, NI-DAQ has become confused.
When the mouse was wiggled, the gates were opened. After that, whenever I ask for a sample, it gives me one, without regard to read/write position. It continually gives me the next sample from the buffer and wraps around, again and again, and again, as fast as I can read / process / display.
It is also putting new data into the buffer, so that the historical data eventually gets wiped out.
That fits the facts:
  It shows only recent (last 100 sec) data, not ancient data, and not live data too fast, as I had considered.
  The data changes with time - oldest data gets wiped out.
  It plays the SAME data over and over and over.
But that means a bug in NI-DAQ, I think.
QUESTIONS:
Any flaws in my thinking?
Any previous sightings of this symptom?
Any ideas for workarounds?

The rapidly changing data, is that on the viewing machine or on a display on the device acquiring the data?
The "device acquiring the data" is a pair of cDAQ chassis. There is no display there. It's the LabVIEW program that is reading and displaying the data.
Does your computer go into any sort of power saving mode where the USB controllers are disabled during hibernation/standby?
on MY machine, I have tried this with CPU sleepage and such. Didn't know you could sleep the USB, but on MY machine, that's disabled.
But I haven't made it happen on MY machine.
My CLIENT's machine is actually running XP, and is set to turn off monitor NEVER, turn off hard disk NEVER, and system standby NEVER.
What version of DAQmx do you have installed?
On MY machine, it's 8.8 - I haven't found out from my client yet what his is, but it won't be far away from what came with LV 8.6.

Here's two of the loops running (the third loop deals with TCP/UDP and is not relevant, I think).
The TCM DAQ manager 's READ function is pictured in the original post.
Here we wait on a sample, scale it (volts into EU), and feed it to the PROCESS TCM DATA vi (which does averaging).
Here's the NEW DATA function for PROCESS TCM DATA:
The ST (short-term) HISTORY is set up as an N channel by 5-sample array, and ST HISTORY SAMPLES is set to 5.
The DAQ loop, after processing this data, triggers a DISPLAY event, which triggers a DISPLAY action, which lands here:
The GET DISPLAY function retrieves the latest averages:
That data (64 channels worth) is split into two banks and displayed:
The display process simply distributes the array data into clusters (channels can be user-configured to be in various locations on the screen):
The UPDATE TIP action causes a TIP STRIP string to be updated:
The TIP STRIP shows the average and min and max values (which might be hidden from the display itself), based on which display cell the mouse is in.
A MOUSE ENTER event on any display cell sets the CLUSTER CONTAINING MOUSE variable to the CTL REF of the event, a MOUSE LEAVE event for the overall display bank (containing 32 cells) sets the CLUSTER CONTAINING MOUSE variable to Not-A-RefNum.
the DISPLAY looks like this (only a few cells shown). The display for this program occupies an entire 1680x1050 LCD display, another program runs on the main monitor.
As you can see, the only storage in this process is the AVERAGER, and that is limited to 5 samples (0.5 sec). It cannot store any more than that.
I've thought about the possibility of the mouse oscillating between two cells (as mice are sometimes known to do) when it is parked, and causing a flood of MOUSE ENTER events.
But 1) it happens more often than the odds would dictate (a random location is not likely to be on a cell border), and
2) When that cleared up, the queue would be processed, but it would display CURRENT data more rapidly than 2 Hz. NOT historical data.
Given that it seems to be about 100 sec of history (judging by my client's recap of what he saw, and how it operates), that points to the 1000-sample buffer within NI-DAQ. That's the only place that I see to store that data.
I'll admit that I'm not watching the ERROR output from the NIDAQ READ function. Perhaps I should.
The only scenario I can come up with is that NI-DAQ's READ pointer is confused.
When I ask for a sample it tells me that there is ONE and only ONE available. So I deal with it.
When I ask again, it tells me the same thing.
When I ask again, it tells me the same thing.
It goes round and round the READ buffer. At the same time, new data is coming in, replacing the oldest stuff.
But it (apparently) never gets back to the "normal" condition, where it WAITS on a sample at the RAD function.
Nobody has waited long enough to see if it would do that eventually, after a few minutes (50+ replays), they give up and restart.
Restarting the program resets the cDAQ drivers, among other things, so the problem goes away.
If there's another scenario to cause these symptoms, I'm all ears. But I cannot think of it.
If it was a USB SLEEP problem, I wouldn't think the data would replay from BEFORE the wake-up. But that's what happened.

Error Occuring While Processing Data With DIAdem 8.1Exception EAccessViolation in module ntdll.dll at 000111DE. Access violation at address 7C9111DE in module 'ntdll.dll". Read address 37363430

Hello,
We are having an issue running Diadem 8.1 on a new HP XW 9400 with Windows XP SP2. 3 errors have been occuring with frequent crashes, they are:
1) "1Exception EAccessViolation in module ntdll.dll at 000111DE. Access violation at address 7C9111DE in module 'ntdll.dll". Read address 37363430.
2) The instruction at "0x7c9111de" referenced memory at "0x352e302d". The memory could not be "read".
3) ---Error--- DIAdem
Error in Autosequence - processing in line: 74 (IARV_VAR_GET)
Runtime Error while executing command "Iarv2Txt$ := FR(T9,L1)"
Error type: ACCESS VIOLATION
Error address: 000101DE
Module name:ntdll.dll
We are using the same scripts and version 8.1 on a variety of Dell desktop computers (W2K and XP SP2) without any issue, looking for suggestions as this affects no other software on the HP XW 9400 other than DIAdem. Appreciate any suggestions.

Unfortunately, The reported access violation in the central Windows ntdll.dll is very unspecific.
May be the following questions will help you to provide me more info.
1. You mentioned that the aut's and - I think - also the accessed text file reside on a server.
Is there a stable network connection?
The server can sometimes be a little slow but the connection is good. This computer is using the same connection that the prior computer utilized without issue.
Are the files accessed by multiple clients simultaneously?
It is possible that more than one computer can be accessing the same file, but again, this has never been an issue. We are reading the files only, not writing to them.
The processing routines we are running have used for over 5 years without any issues until adding this computer.
Is the text file read by one client while another client is writing the same file?
No, files are "read only"
2. Have you already tested opening the file with the FileOpen command before calling FR?
Yes
Do you see any chance to convert the aut to a vbs file? This gives you more alternatives in accessing text files.
3. What do you mean with "processing ATD's with 30 or more channels of data"? Where is the relation between ATD files and data channels?
Processing Crash Dummy data with file sets low in channel count (15 channels) result in successful processing without any crashes or access errors. When processing dummies with more than 20 channels we sometimes encounter these issues. The higher channel count may be the only common factor I can find in these faults.

How can i transfer filtered data from diadem to excel?

i'm trying to write a script which would allows me to transfer data automatically from diadem to excel and i need some help.
i want to copy the last of my selected channels, open an excel file and paste data into it.
My script look like this

In DIAdem we provide an example which shows the things you would like to do. The script name is "Expl_OLE.vbs". You find it in the folder ..\Libr\Aut\.

Plotting GPS data in Diadem

I am analyzing some GPS data and I want to visualize the data on google maps. I remember seeing an exmaple on this topic ( google maps and Diadem interface) but cannot seem to find it anywhere.
I am using Diadem 11.1.0 and I doubt the GPS functionality is not available for this version ?
Please suggest alternate ways to visualize this if possible.

Hello Vamshi,
The GPS plotting functionality became available with DIAdem 2010, and is available as part of the Professional version of DIAdem.
It uses Open Street Map (not Google maps) due to Google licensing restrictions. You can see the maps here: http://www.openstreetmap.org/
You can download the DIAdem 2010 evaluation version here by selecting the "Evaluate DIAdem" section: http://www.ni.com/diadem/
DIAdem offers DataPlugins for GPX and NMEA GPS files, so these can be loaded very easily and then added to a map.

Getting correct Date/Time data in DIAdem 11 from LabView tdms data

I've got a handful of large tdms files (9-18 million data points) collected with LabView that I need to extract elements of, and export as a text file, with the time data as a string.
I'm using DataFileLoadSelect and the Register option and then DataBlCopy to bring in a chunk of data at a time, but I'm having to explicitly convert each time value from a LabView timebase (1/1/1904) to the DIAdem timebase (1/1/0000), not to mention the offset, before writing the date-time as a text string - this really slows the process down.
I't strikes me that DIAdem(11.1) has got to have a way to read LabView timestamps correctly, but I'm a DIAdem novice, so any suggestions would be helpful. And no, I don't have LabView installed locally, so using a LabView vi is not an option for me.

WfmToDateWfm works great, but there is a bug in the code if you want to use DataFileLoadRed and your starting point is not at the beginning of the file. There is a provision in WfmToDateWfm to handle the offset, but it's not hooked up:
OffStartTime = ChnPropValGet(Channel, "wf_start_offset") ChnDeltaTime = ChnPropValGet(Channel, "wf_increment")
RelStartTime = 24*3600*(Trunc(ChnStartTime) + 693958 + Abs(Frac(ChnStartTime)))
To make WfmToDateWfm work with an offset, simly add the variable OffStartTime to the RHS of RelStartTime

How to save LabView data into diadem format ?

I have a project that needed me to save in Diadem format.
Is it the correct way to save in Diadem format ?
Why the length of the data is only limited to 10000 and then will create another tab ? And how to edit the header name ( what I want is Time,Channel0,Channel1,etc) ?

Your question makes no sense since that VI does not have any TDMS file functions. You are also creating a header in the text file but not according to what you say you want the column names to be.

How do I import non-numeric data into DIAdem?

I have some non-numeric data in an Excel file which I would like to import into DIAdem. DIAdem recognizes the file and imports some of the data, but it only imports those cells that are purely numeric. Cells containing non-numeric characters are ignored. But I need that non-numeric data! How do I force DIAdem to import everything? (Some controls appear in the import dialog that seem like they might be useful here but they're greyed out.)

You can not load text columns from ASCII files into DIAdem 8.1 DATA channels (numbers only). But the ASCII Import Wizard will let you send those text values to either a separate ASCII file, which DIAdem can use to put them on a graph as labels, or to a DIAdem string array, which DIAdem can use to display them at various places in its environment.
The below attachments demonstrate reading an ASCII text column into a DIAdem string array and displaying the values on a DIAdem table in GRAPH. Note that the index values of the string array are placed in a DIAdem DATA channel.

Transfer data from diadem to excel

Hello,
I have a problem concerning data transfer from diadem 11.1 to excel 2003. I have several hundred of measuring channels in one group under diadem and I want to select only one hundred of them (always the same) and transfer it to excel at a specific place( One channel in one columns always the same too) to make some calculations and data treatment. The biggest problem is that channels under diadem have not always the same channel number depending of the measuring hardware and are not always all present depending of the test configurations( some sensor are not always in use). So I want to select the channel  using the name of the channel (which is always the same).I was thinking to make a loop like this: ( I dont know the correct syntax sorry)
For i 1 to 100      '100 is the number of channel that i want to extract

Hi Mathieu,
You have several options when exporting from DIAdem to Excel:
1) Use the Excel Export Wizard
2) Create a TDM or TDMS file and then load that file into Excel with the Excel TDM Add-in
3) Create an ASCII file and then load that ASCII file into Excel with its ASCII Import
4) Use ActiveX to send values directly to an Excel sheet
Each of these options has various pros and cons. For options 1-3 I would suggest you rearrange the selected channels in DIAdem into the order you want to see in Excel. You can either use the ChnMove() function or the ChnCopyExt() function for this purpose. Options 1-3 all have the ability to export a selection of channels from the Data Portal, but they will generally export them in the order they appear in the Data Portal, for options 2,3 you would use the DataFileSaveSel() command with either the "TDM" or the "CSV" DataPlugin parameter.
Option 4 is very flexible but is harder to program and is slower than the other three options. How many data points do you have per channel? How many hundred channels will you want to export at one time?

How do I send string data into DIAdem via a channel?

Using a TO.DATASHEET reference, ChnValSet doesn't work with strings. It's fine with numbers and dates, just not strings. I'm not sure if the CHT variable is useful for me or not. Thanks.

Hi Deca,
You can use the CmdExecuteSync method of the DIAdem.TOCommand interface to set the value of a text channel. For example passing the string "CHT(1,1) := 'test'" as a parameter to the CmdExecuteSync method will set the 1st row of the 1st channel to "test". Please refer to the DIAdem help for more documentation on the CHT function.
I hope this helps! Please post back if I wasn't clear enough in explaining how to do this or if you have any problems getting it to work.

Problem with a data set: DIAdem crashes

Hi,
I've got a problem with a data set. When I want to zoom in DIAdem-View, DIAdem crashes with the following message (translated from German ;-):
error type: FLOAT INEXACT RESULT or FLOAT INVALID OPERATION or FLOAT STACK CHECK
error address: 00016CB8
module name: gfsview.DLL
I've got some similar data set not showing such problems. Further on I scanned the data a bit, but in the 59000 points I didn't see anything special. I did try to delete "NOVALUE"s as well, but after that there still exist "NOVALUE"s.
Does anyone have an idea what to look for?
