Replica - 2012 - configure to not start on reboot

I want to configure Replica in 2012 R2 so that if there is a reboot - planned or unplanned - Replica does not start up automatically - there has to be manual intervention. So for instance if Replica source server goes down as a result of a power out situation
when it comes back up it will not immediately be replicating to the target but I will have to re-initiate it.
If that's not possible then at least on reboot I want there to be a delay  in Replica being reinitiated.
If the above can't be done as a choice within Replica then I would like to be able to
1) make the services that Replica relies on to work 'manual' so they are not automatically restarted on reboot
2) if 1 is not possible then I want to make it so that Hyper-V itself does not start on reboot - again if necessary by making the services it depends on - I believe the main one being the Hyper-V Virtual Machine Management Service.

Hi Arlester,
Let me answer this in a few stages. The short answer to your question is:  there is no out-of-the-box way to do this today. Any solution to solve your problem will involve some amount of scripting.
1) Regarding file corruption:
The way Hyper-V Replica works is that if there is a possible VHD corruption detected, we set the VMs to resynchronize. So if your VM starts replicating on host restart, it means that the VHD is okay. Of course, that says nothing about the application using
the VHD... and it is quite possible that there are inconsistencies at an application-level that would still be consistent at the VHD level.
A good practice here would be to schedule the resynchronization or make it manual so that it is not triggered immediately. The settings for resynchronization can be found under VM Settings --> Replication --> Resynchronization.
2) Pausing replication:
In the scenario that you have described, you seem to be looking for a way to pause the replication on a host restart. There are two places where you can pause the replication: on the source or on the destination. The suggestion I would give is to write a script
to monitor your source and pause VMs on the destination when the source is unreachable. Pausing replication on the destination will reject incoming packets from the source, while pausing replication on the source will stop sending the packets itself. The reason
I think pausing on the destination is better is because you will need a VM object to trigger this action... and on the source this needs to be done as soon as the service is up. This can lead to timing issues which can be easily avoided by pausing on the destination
site.
You can use PowerShell scripts or create a SCO runbook to monitor and pause the VMs.
Hope this helps.

    I am running WAS6.40 with J2EE add-in. Until recently the J2EE was working fine. Was able to access it using http://<hostname>:50000/  but recently it stopped working. There is nothing obvious in the logs & traces. SMICM indicates J2EE status as not configured and not started. Where else can I look for? How do I increase trace level?

    Can you be more specific? Which logs and traces did you look at?
    The default trace, dispatcher/server logs should indicate what happened (and they should also be written to during a restart)....

  • Local zones do not start when rebooting gobal zone

    HMy solaris host had been working well. Then all in a sudden, all local zones do not start automatically after I reboot the system. Did anybody see this before? Thanks.

    Thanks, Robert. There no error in /var/adm/messages. I can start zones manually.
    I found the status of svc:/system/zones:default is offline. With this status, zones will not autoboot regardless of zones configuration. But I cannot enable the service. After I execute the following command

    the status of that service is still offline. Any idea?

  • Firefox will not start until reboot

    I am using FF newest version, win 7, etc. I have a very strange problem. Sometimes, once every 2-4 days, my FF will not start when the computer first start. That's when the computer cold boot, I click on FF and nothing happens. I looked in task manager and there is no "firefox.exe" running. If I reboot the machine, now it boots properly. I tried clicking on the shortcut on desktop, in "All Program" or navigate to the location of "firefox.exe" on disk. I have no fancy addon's. Google TB, Download helper, Ad block plus, and Skype addon, noscript, siteadvisor, DNA (bittorrent client for Asus), Chatzilla. Any suggestion on how I can diagnose/fix this problem? tx

    Hello friend, i have a suggestion:
    Sometimes my Firefox closes and the same thing happens... So I close the process, on the Task Manager (famous ctrl + alt + del on Windows) and start Firefox again. Try it!:D

  • Firefox will not start, after reboot.

    For a few months now Firefox will not start after I reboot my computer. In order to get it to start I click the exe then must go into task manager kill it, click the exe again, kill it again then, from there it will typically start, but sometimes it may take one or two more trys. When clicking the exe firefox will appear in the task manager under processes but will will start with ~7% CPU usage, then quickly drop to zero every time until it does actually open and start. I have ran a full system recovery and started anew after reinstalling mozilla several times failed to fix the problem. I run virus and spyware checks often and come up clean, and also run Chrome as a default browser.

    Hello Tom.
    You may be having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
    Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not coming from one of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] and select ''Disable all add-ons''. If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and theme. You can troubleshoot plugins the same way.
    If you want support for one of your add-ons, you'll need to contact its author.

    Hi!
    I have some strange problems with the PC Suite. After the first install everything is working well but after a reboot the PC suite is not starting after double click on the desktop icon.
    But i can install tools on the phone or start some of the suite tools. Only the PC Suit does not run.
    The repair function of the installer does not bring any results. The only way ist to deinstall the suit and all drivers and to clear all remainig nokia registry entries. After that I can install the suite again and it will run again... until I reboot the system. And so on, and so on...
    Does any one have an idea how to solve my problem?
    Thanks
    Michael

    Actually it does not work on one Windows XP SP3 computer, but it does work on another Windows XP SP3 computer.
    Probably this is a .NET application, as I have encountered several .NET applications that do NOT work on some specific computers.

  • SSH does not start after reboot

    Hi, I have a problem with my sshd daemon. I have updated my OS, I have changed the .pacnew files and tested service with "systemctl start sshd.service" and it worked good. I have run command "systemctl enable sshd.service" and command executed good. But after reboot service does not start.
    I have run "systemctl status sshd.service" and result is that service is loaded, but in Activa line it is inactive (dead).
    I dont know what is happening, why is it inactive if it is loaded?
    Thank you for you help.

    These are outputs:
    $ systemctl status sshd.service
    * sshd.service -OpenSSH Daemon
    Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/ssh.service: enabled)
    Active: inactive (dead)
    $ systemctl status sshd.socket

    Listen: [::]:22 (Stream)

    It looks that socket is working, but service isn't. I have reviewed "journalctl -b" and sshd service isn't shown it.

    Hi !!

    I have 8.1.6 Database and Win 2000 installed. All was right i have restarted the machine several times until i have installed languaje settings to Portal to add a new languaje and have launch de script wwvseedus.sql and langinst.cmd. and it was fine i could see the Portal in Spanish, but when i have reboot the machine de database do not start. The following message appears when i try to connect to de Oracle Server Manager.

  • CRS not starting after reboot

    Hi,
    I have just installed RAC in a test environment using vmware server 2. I have Oracle Enterprise Linux 5 and used oracle 11g (11.2.0.1). I have not installed database software yet and just installed oracle grid infrastructure.
    When i restart any of the node and issue "crsctl check crs", i see following output.
    [root@rac2 ~]# crsctl check crs
    CRS-4638: Oracle High Availability Services is online
    CRS-4535: Cannot communicate with Cluster Ready Services
    CRS-4529: Cluster Synchronization Services is online
    CRS-4533: Event Manager is online
    Now, "crs_stat -t" also does not work unless i manually start the crs daemon using "crsd start" command. Why crs daemon is not starting automatic unlike 10g RAC. Is it normal behaviour and what is proper way of making this daemon start automatic.
    Salman

    I am assuming you are running crsctl check crs immediately after reboot. It takes bit of time for crs to start and you do not have to start it manually. By default crs is started automatically and if for some reason you disabled it, you can enable it by using "crsctl enable crs" .
    You can also check the status of individual services by using:
    # crsctl check crsd

  • IPhone Configuration Utility not starting up

    I have been using this utility for perhaps 12 months to swap the data support from one SIM to another. Over the last 48 hours it will not start on my Windows 7 notebook. I downloaded the latest release (3.5) and the result is no different. Can anyone help? There is no path by which to contact Apple about it, other than perhaps calling them.
    Thanks,
    Richard

    Hi,
    I have exactly the same error message using iPCU v3.3 on my work laptop running Win XP SP3 (plus .Net 3.5 and all patches). iPCU used to work on this laptop as I configured it to access my work email using ActiveSync but when I recently upgrade my iPhone4 to IOS4.3.3 I was unable to launch iPCU. Having found the log file I can now see that it actually stopped working several months ago as the 'Object already exists' message was already present.
    Searching around I found what I think is the iPCU user and device config files in the following locations;
    C:\Documents and Settings\'username'\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileDevice\Configuration Profiles
    C:\Documents and Settings\'username'\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileDevice\Devices
    I've removed the files but still have the same error when starting iPCU. If anyone has any pointers as to what the 'Object' is or any other fix then I'd be grateful for the assistance
    Also
    I did install iPCU 3.3 on my personal laptop running Win 7. It works fine and lets me configure my iPhone, but I can't install the necessary Security Certificate to allow ActiveSync to connect to the Exchange server as the Root CA is within work's corporate LAN and I can't connect my personal kit into the corporate LAN. I have tried exporting the Certificates for Root CA and the Intermidate CA's but it still doesn't accept it.

  • Windows Zero Configuration does not start automatically

    It won't start automatically, even though I have set it to automatic in the Services Tab. Every time the computer goes to sleep, logs out or restarts, I have to go back into Services and restart it. How can I get it to start automatically. NOTE: I HAVE CHANGED THE STARTUP TYPE IN THE SERVICES TAB BUT IT IS TO NO AVAIL (I have asked this question in other places, and they still give me this answer, so I hope you guys are smart enough to not tell me what I already said I did.)

    On the recovery tab of the service properties, set them all to restart.  Does that work for you?  If you can not start a service, there might be some kind of malware or virus that is forcing the service to start.  Could also be a corrupted file on the hard drive.  If you look at your event logs, does it show what any error messages?
